you are under the gun under timing we have a deadline to achieve where our goal is to create the best playing service for the kect my name is Rob kbat off I’m the plant operations manager here for Canuck sports and entertainment this job I’m most proud of making this ice surface the smoothest coldest fastest ice for the Canucks to have success in the playoffs and in order to reach their goal of winning the sanley cup this is kind of my goal it’s obviously a work in progress seeing all our efforts coming to what we need to create that on a game day I’ll talk to one of the operators whoever’s on shift here he’ll come in he does his rounds checking out the building making sure everything’s up and running in the slab the concrete slab of the ice surface or the ice laab I have sensors that give me a temperature of what the ice laab is so we need to maintain that ice surface around 20Β° f is kind of where we want to be for a nice surface temperature getting ready for game day so right now the operator prepped the ice getting it all ready for game day settings this is the model 526 Zamboni so we’ve got the latest and greatest bells and whistles if you want to call it that for these machines before your typical Zamboni you needed a wheel to bring the blade down in order to cut the ice now what we have is another uh it’s called level ice so that’s the Box on top there that controls the lowering and raising of the blade the next best thing is the fast ice system so what this entails is a spray nozzles uh instead of a towel uh like the older machines this is our edger so this basically goes around the perimeter of the rink this cuts the ice down to the same level say as the machines there go around the whole perimeter of the ice and along the boards and it’s basically like cutting the lawn we need our ice level at about inch to inch and a half thickness that’s kind of what the NHL mandates for the ice to be if I can create an environment for these players where the ice is perfect the temperature in the arena is perfect I think the players coaches everyone involved see that as a successful part of my job round the net sets it up for B scores right now it’s 8 minutes left in the first period so we work around the TV schedule so everything’s pretty critical to timing around here we need to be on before the 14-minute mark of every countdown clock you are under the gun under timing but what the challenge is this tunnel here this tunnel is so busy with game press ice scrapers off I officials you name it comes walking through this spot my dudy now being the first driver on I’m rolling at 1405 cuz 14 minutes is our deadline I think they’re the hardest working team and their attention to detail is great every gouge every chip everything out of that ice and with their attention to detail they achieve that every time
