challenge a gator team that started out eight and0 they are humming um haven’t necessarily play like the toughest schedule at the same time they’ve still beat three power confer opponents by double digits which I think is nothing to to honestly you can’t critique that too much um looked really good during their mte at the it was I believe the ESPN Invitational ESPN events Invitational smoked Wake Forest smoked witchs State now they get a home contest to get a pretty vulnerable Virginia team what are you looking for out of the Gators in this one yeah I mean I think uh the Gators I mean they Wake Forest is probably the play the team with the highest ceiling that they’ve played um they have their win over M with a pretty decent Michigan team mhm uh and obviously they lost to Xavier and Florida but they Florida made Wake Forest look just downright bad offensively uh and that’s I think what the most impressive part of this Florida team is is that we always know that Todd Golden’s going to put together good offenses that’s been his calling card over the course of his career except for like that first season at Florida um but this year the defense is right up there with the offense at least against the competition they’ve played um the most points they gave up uh the two games with the most points was the first game against South Florida not going to hold them that against them too much and then 74 points since then is the is the High um of their eight games it was only two have gone over 70 uh yet they’ve scored over 80 in seven of those eight games so um I I think from this that perspective it’s going to be a tough game for Virginia because Virginia’s defense looks okay uh and their offense looked good against villain NOA but hasn’t really looked good outside of that Villanova game so uh I think for me the the biggest difference between these two teams and we discussed this on the house of Krauss podcast um it really is just it’s Walter Clayton I mean he’s going to be the best player on the floor between those two teams and I’m not actually sure how close it is yeah this backourt is absolutely loaded especially compared to Virginia where they’re still looking for shot creation it it’s that’s knew that going into the the season that they needed a big a big gear out of DayDay ases um they needed Andrew roie to show some signs of life and roie I think has answered the Bell a little bit um showing some of the flash that made him at least a somewhat desirable Prospect coming out of St Thomas when he first hit the portal um scored in double figures in four of the last five games for Virginia which has been good to see for them but it’s still comparing them to Florida is just a different level um because it’s not just Walter Clayton either Elijah Martin’s been playing really well will Rashard Denzel Aberdine Urban clavar like I think I would probably I’d probably take Clayton Martin and will Rashard all three of those before I get to like a Virginia guard I would take if that makes sense like I think Florida has the three best guards in this game um plus depth behind them as well to where it it feels pretty lopsided and honestly though as much as I love Clayton and think he’s been playing at an All-American level I want to talk a little bit about this Florida Front court because they’re also super deep and have some versatility I love the way that like they run high low whether it’s Alex Condon or Thomas Huff who’s either usually feeding Ruben chenu and I think that’s often an anti antidote to the Virginia pack line when they’re or or even the way not just the pack line but the way they hard hedge screens as well having bigs that can pass is a huge Advantage yeah it is and this I mean the Virginia Defense for as for as okay as it’s looked like it hasn’t looked impossible to attack um it has given up a ton of Threes uh and te like 33% on that volume of threes is still like not something you want to see when when you’re Virginia I think people get hooked look too hooked on the 33% from Deep um and not the well they’re giving up 45% of their shots from Deep uh whereas Florida’s been running teams off the line which is a much better approach um but they’ve ALS they’ve given up like nothing from two Point range really like it it’s I think the threes are a combination of they’re not defending the three as well but also like they’re just between Blake Buchanan and Jacob Kofi and um even TJ power to an extent like they’re just not giving up a ton inside um and so I think from that perspective yeah attacking the pack line that way is really good like you can um really pack it in especially I mean like this Florida team is not shooting the ball well but I they have Shooters on the team right um but I just think I mean regardless of the high low like The Bigs for for Florida are good enough offensively uh and they can they can also stretch the floor like Alex Condon can stretch the floor so he’s going to pull a second that second big for Virginia to the perimet yeah I mean I’ve been really impressed by both by huff and condon’s progression this year it’s like such a it’s such a good one-two punch it almost doesn’t feel like there’s much of a drop off when Conan goes to the bench and you bring huffin at the four um honestly like I was pretty critical of golden his first year at Florida and you hinted at that with the offense where they kind of stunk I remember seemed like down the stretch they were struggling to crack 60 points um but the the formula that he has works of having the having that high low bigs who crash the glass especially the offensive glass to extend possessions and then just guards who can go and get you buckets like Rashard Clayton and Martin are all averaging double figures right now Clayton and um Martin are both north of 16 points a game it’s just a really well balanced team that against the Virginia Defense that’s been decent but a far cry from the elite units we saw under Tony Bennett I see them having a field day I see them having a field day at home and like you mentioned with Virginia being susceptible to the the three-point shot this would be a good Get Right game for Rashard who’s only shooting he’s shooting like 24% on the year right now it’ be a good uh a good get right I mean struggle to call it a Get Right game for Walter Clayton but uh I could see this being a game where because Clayton’s been playing really well but I could see this being a game where he maybe catches fire and and builds off of that that five three-point performance we saw against witch to State and hits five or six triples and uh sort of ends any hope for Virginia even if they hang around for a little bit in this game yeah and Martin has been on a heater the last couple of games I think he went one of two against witas state from Deep um but the previous two games uh I think he was like 10 of 17 10 of 18 um so he started off a little bit slow like on and off but the last three games he’s been on from deep I think I think the key here too is that it Virginia when they looked good offensively they were running guy roie and and McNeely specifically off screen to get open looks and they’re going up against a team in Florida that runs you off the line so you’re if you’re and if you’re Virginia like you you can’t really go away from the the three ball um I mean you can uh but like that’s your best offense right now and so you like in order to win MCN and roie are just gonna have to hit contested shots and I don’t know if I trust maybe McNeely but I don’t know if I trust roie to to do that that mhm yeah I’m with you on that and it’s fitting I mean Ken pal has a spread listed at at 15 make sure you blowout win like you said there there’s a world where maybe Virginia can hang around if you get just the lights out game from Isaac mcney if you get Andrew roie um giving I think he probably needs to hit two or three threes as well and I think Kofi needs to match Ruben chinu as like the the best big on the floor maybe uh I guess you could argue whether it’s Conan or chinu chinu was really good at that ESPN events Invitational but at least match his physicality but um what do you think happens in this one Connor yeah I mean I think this game has to be played in the low 60s for Virginia to win and I just that would mean the lowest score that Florida’s put up by like 12 like the the lowest score they put up so far this season is 75 I think they cross that I think it they probably don’t hit 80 um but I think Florida like give me Florida 77 Virginia 62 so I think it’s going to be a little bit higher scoring than what uh than what kenpom has um but I think the the spread is pretty you know pretty right on um 15 15 points uh you’re going to get I think a lot of bench players at the end of that game for Florida so you know they might be able to push it to 20 but I think 15’s pretty safe I just I think at the end of the day you’re going to look down and you’re right like Clayton Martin Rashard are all going to have like 12 to 17 points or you could see one of them go off for 25 because they just get the open looks from three uh and and whether it’s Martin or Clayton or Rashard getting getting better um they’re going to hit they’re going to hit threes and and Virginia just can’t keep up with that uh I think that’s an accurate assessment it boils down to that this Florida offense is high powerered Virginia’s going to struggle to match their production whatever happens we will be
