the games in hand again how many games in hand do we have here we got lots of games in hand as many as four on some teams in the Eastern Conference most notably the New Jersey Devils but if you look at the teams just ahead of Ottawa right now you’ve got three games in hand on Pittsburgh and the Islanders you’ve got two games in hand on Philadelphia and a game in hand on Columbus just ahead of you with one point behind in the standings this is as important of a non-conference game before Christmas as I think I’ve seen in a while not to mention if you don’t win this one you go winless against the Anaheim Ducks in the season series so Ross are you calling for a second time this season a must win game up against the Anaheim Ducks no I’m calling this a great opportunity game because look this out of town scoreboard will get to in entirety in the third segment it very much benefited the Ottawa Senators last night the Western Conference teams did their thing and now it’s time for Ottawa to not get help from others but to help themselves what return the favor to those Western teams by beating the Ducks who are a serious Contender yeah well look don’t make me talk bad against my my favorite Western Conference team I just like the way they play I like there’s a lot of good kids on that team they actually have a better road record than they do at home they’re 53 and three on the road whereas they’re 59- one on home ICE the boys just love being on the road Ross the Ducks are your favorite Western team to bet on yeah H because they’re plus Winnipeg Jets team that beats down on a Boston Bruins team 8 to one yeah I know of course that’s that’s for different reasons but when I’m looking for Value bets I mean the ducks on the road they’re like plus 200 every night and they’re 53 and three well raw spoiler alert but our friends at FanDuel have the Anaheim Ducks at plus 205 tonight and the sends at minus 255 so uh you hopping on that value for the ducks or no I I don’t bet against the sense now I’ve learned to ration my bets on the sends because they cost me quite a few dollars over the last number of years but I’ve also been burned on a certain player prop we’re going to get to why we think Shane Pinto is nearing a break out but as we always do it’s a game Day preview we look at the lines we got our locked on players our Lookout players and the Ottawa Senators had practice right after we recorded yesterday they are not skating today it’s become a trend the Ottawa Senators do not skate often on game day so we’re going to go with what yesterday’s lines were at practice we should not as well Nicholas matin Pao has been called up but was skating is the seventh defenseman up front we’ve got Josh Norris Brady kachak and Drake bson Al together Tim studa between Klo jaru and Adam godette you’ve got Shane Pinto with Nick cousins and Michael amadio and then Zack estap chuk with Noah Gregor and Ridley Greg the Alberta beef line on the fourth unit on defense it’s Jake Sanderson and Travis hammeck it’s Thomas shabat with Nick Jensen and Tyler cevin with Jacob Bernard Docker as a wise man once told me they’d have to be crazy not to start Lena alark tonight yeah I mean we would have to have an emergency press conference and everyone from Ann laow to Steve stos to Justin Peters to Shan Tierney would have to answer for putting forsberg in this game the AHL goalie coach would have to answer for it as well I’d want Trudeau on that press conference to explain why the Ottawa Senators in our nation’s capital are starting forsberg over allmark so they better not mess around here just put allmark in come on and allmark played fantastic in the game against the Ducks allm Mar’s just been awesome for the last four games he’s 3 0 and one obviously that shootout loss coming at the hands of the Ducks he stopped 122 of the last 130 shots against you math guys out there you already know that’s a 938 save percentage which sounds fantastic right for a uh for a sample size like that yeah where you going with this that is fantastic that was his season save percentage two years ago yeah wow jeez put that in perspective for you Lena alar is back to his vzna caliber over the last four games pelsey who are you locked on to for tonight’s game well Ross I’m going to be locked on to number 12 not 57 Ross number 12 Shane Pinto I mean the dams got a burst eventually Ross I thought his game uh last game up against against the New York Islanders was maybe his best game of the season as he had not one but two grade A scoring chances in the first shift of the game hits the post and also has a really good opportunity all the postcast crew had prop bets on Shane Pinto to score up against his Long Island team wasn’t able to get it done so I really think we’ll get to this in keys to Victory Ross but I really think tonight is an perfect opportunity for Shane Pinto to get that goal burst the dam open the floodgates and start scoring here because as it sits now Ross Shane Pinto in 19 games has one goal and two assists for three points Zach mccuan has more goals than Shane pinto and he hasn’t played in the NHL in weeks in 19 games Zach mccuan has two goals one assist so we got to get going here if you’re Shane Pinto well and and mchan like Pinto has only scored in one game he had two goals in that game against the LA pings true so I I’m with you man with Shane pinto and he’s doing so many good things away from the puck right now it’s just a matter of time and a matter of sticking with it not getting frustrated because it has now been uh was it 12 now 14 straight games without a point since since returning from injury it’s been 13 he didn’t score against Utah though he’s a plus two he was playing through something in that one then he missed uh almost three weeks came back and zeros across the board since this guy scored 20 goals in the league last last year and or sorry not last year last full year he played he was on Pace for more than 20 goals last year as well so you’re just you’re hoping to get a little more secondary scoring from him and that line is starting to produce a little bit I mean Nick cousins has a couple of goals in the last couple weeks and Nick Michael amadio had an assist in uh in the win over the Nashville Predators that’s uh that’s starting to be my Alex debrett scores record stat Psy when Michael amadio gets a point this season hasn’t happened as often as you would have liked but when Michael amadio gets a point the Ottawa Senators are 0 and one that one loss the shootout one against the Anaheim Ducks a week and a half ago yeah I it’s crazy I forgot that that was a pointless streak for Pinto not just goals Ross so forget scoring a goal let’s get a point especially like you mentioned amadio and cousins have hooked up on a couple goals recently and Pinto not even a part of those you’d like for him to get a secondary assist just to get the confidence up but I still think I would like to flip the Wingers in the bottom six like I I would be much more comfortable with a Gregor Pinto Greg line and then have cousins of stauk amadio on that fourth line I I’m not sure why cousins and amadio have still been on this third line I I don’t know yeah I mean I did like the way that quote unquote fourth line played they they had a good game I think Zack achuk two games ago was my my standout against predators I thought that that Line’s been bringing it so that’s why I want to elevate the Wingers Ross because I feel like they deserve a little bit more opportunity you get Gregor speed with pinto hopefully that helps and then you get the physicality of Greg on that line as well and yeah I I that’s something I would look into personally but yeah that’s fair and if you look at it from a standpoint of uh of time on ice at five on five that Pinto cousins and aao line actually played a little bit more than Norris kachuck bson obviously it’s five on five there’s some power plays there that uh the other guys get more looks but yeah they almost played double the staff Chuck Gregor and Greg line those three only played six minutes and five seconds at five on five but Adam God’s been elevated and uh we’ll see how he and giru get on the ice because they played almost a a low for giru two games ago he was back uh towards his normal he’s looking a little slow out there but you know he’s got the hands and the creativity to play with a skill player like my locked on player to watch Tim stut I mean he’s got to be everybody’s locked on player to watch every single night the way this guy’s dancing out there four points in his last two games uh four assists he he’s only got one goal in his last like eight games right now but the way he’s dishing the pill it’s all good I I think he could be poised to score a couple goals here tonight so I’m going to be watching for SC Yeah couple I’m going to be two go Timmy tonight I’ll be looking for that I I just think he’s ready to break out and have one of those classic Timmy four-point games we haven’t seen one since the St Louis game where he had two goals and two assists in that one so yeah I’m G be watching for the German you got to give it to them you got to get them in the right spots and I think this is a perfect opportunity where you’re gonna have home ICE you’re gonna have last change we’ll get to the Anaheim Ducks but they’re thin on the back end even after adding Jacob trouba I don’t like their depth back there so I think that if you’re the Ottawa Senators you match that Norris lineup as much as you can against the Fowler trouba pair and you let Timmy get up against gutas and uh and his partner in this game which is Nick or Nick dlan shout out Nick dumlin Good Sense Twitter folk right there Brian dumlin on the Anaheim Ducks so that’s what I’ll be watching for tonight is the German and seeing how he can play at five on five especially but the power play would be nice for them toh contribute to win rather than have special teams cost you like it did with two goals against on two power plays against like they did on Sunday against the New York Islanders that’s how the Ottawa Senators line up player to watch I mentioned he was called up well as quickly as he was called up he was sent back down the Ottawa Senators just announcing 5 minutes ago that he will be back in Belleville the Belleville sends by the way huge game tonight against Syracuse Crunch krer told me he loves playing against Syracuse so I’ll be watching for Kooker to do some damage in that game down in Belleville kind of a yo-yo week for Nicholas matin Pao this guy not only has the flu he’s probably getting Cari D he’s going back and forth so much yeah seriously he’s gonna know that drive from belev Auto really well um yeah I don’t kind of weird stop and tia get the gas real cheap yeah get your cheap gas and Ty Ina um Ross I wanted to have one more discussion about the Ottawa Senators line oh I’d love to oh great um Travis Green has mentioned that any line with Brady gachu on it is this team’s Top Line are we sure that’s the truth because any line with Tim stla on it being the second line seems a little out of place to me now I know obviously this is all semantics it doesn’t really matter but how do you how do you feel about that should it be Timmy’s the first line no matter what or how how do you feel well I guess in the first segment I kind of I I kind of said that that exactly in terms of that’s who you want going up against the other team’s top D pair so from that standpoint I get it I think what what he’s getting at one is your captain and he has been etched in stone Topline left wing for what seven years now yeah yeah but what you also have is with Tim stza you have the most talented player on your team elsewhere and that can open things up in terms of you can put Adam godette with him who yeah he’s scoring a but does he do a whole lot else no that’s fine he’s way overperforming that’s not what I’m getting at but are you going to have Adam Gad on your first line on an NHL team R Ridley Greg was there for a while that’s fair that’s fair but when when you have well was he with Brady kachu though because he was with Tim stza yeah yeah so so that’s that’s the point I’m getting at not only that but you know who makes it with a bullet the top having Drake bson on there that guy is having an unbelievable year and pelsey I know you already hit one of your hot takes out of the park like two days later when lenus almark signed his extension people forget I got Drake bson Over a point per game this season and through 27 games yeah he’s right there at over a point per game he’s sitting with 28 points on the season so yeah I’m I’m more than fine with that not only that but I think Travis Green is very aware of uh the hockey world and how they’re salivating over Brady kachuck right now so anything that he can do in the media to just reaffirm his his value to the organization I think is just kind of you know good coaching in terms of having your top guys know how much they mean to you so that’s what I’ll say about that and um as the hockey world deliberated Brady kachuck for the fifth straight day he and his teammates were out at Chio spreading holiday cheer which I absolutely love to see it’s an annual ual tradition with the Ronald McDonald House a CH children’s paliative care unit and um obviously it’s like the worst circumstances any family could have to be under being at that so the fact that they they do such a great job of of making sure they feel at home as best as they can in such a horrific situation it it’s it’s enormously important for the community to come around and help out with those things and the Ottawa Senators have done an amazing job back Decades of going there and making sure that those kids feel the joy and happiness that every kid deserves so I just want to give a shout out to Brady and the entire team that uh that went there they were playing foosball they were playing with the kids drawing signing autographs and all that just spreading holiday cheers I said so just wanted to get that in there as we’re on the topic of Brady kachak yeah and uh in Julian McKenzie’s Athletics story he talked to Brady about it and Brady mentioned the first little girl he went up to grabs his mask CU they’re they’re wearing masks you don’t want any um you know you want their immune systems are pretty weak exactly yeah uh so first little girl grabs his mask he’s like what’s going on here and then she snaps it back on his face he’s like all right you got me there that’s a good one so good to see at least they got a good sense of humor about them oh it’s amazing it really is um so credit to the auttaa Senators for continuing on that tradition tonight’s game the Ottawa Senators taking on the the Anaheim Ducks the Ducks obviously got that shootout win 11 days ago and now the Ottawa Senators have a chance to get back in the win column after dropping Sunday’s game against the New York Islanders they are 42 and one in their last seven games but it would be also nice for it to be five2 and one looks a lot better than four3 and one I’ll tell you that even four2 and two we’re hoping for a big s’s win tonight in a game they should win to close out this home stand before they go to a schedule loss on Friday where they take on the Carolina Hurricanes did I look up if Carolina’s on the second half back to back yeah they’re not they were off since uh since mon uh since Tuesday I believe no I don’t even think they played yesterday I think the Hurricane’s been off since uh or no they were they were they did play yesterday they got a 3-2 win over the San Jose Sharks they actually were down two1 with like six minutes left came back and won that in regulation Brent Burns a Revenge game tied that game and Jaylen Chatfield got the game winner so they were they’ve got two days off before and they’re off the day after so arrested Carolina Hurricanes whereas Ottawa is coming in off of a busy week they got tonight’s game and then they play at home on Saturday if you’re going to tonight’s note as well Leo Carlson the second overall pick from the 2023 draft he is a game time decision he is day today with injuries but here’s how the Ducks lined up yesterday at practice Ryan stro is centering the top line with Frank vatrano who scored twice on Ottawa in that game a week and a half ago in Anaheim and Troy Terry who scored the shootout winner a lot of people were saying that zeris scored the winner in that game he scored the Clincher but odw didn’t score in the shootout and Troy Terry had the first goal so that’s the winner in the game uh by the way zis out with injury it did not look good he got injured in one of the games right after that last one against Ottawa the second line good cart boy Mason McTavish centering Alex color and Brett Leon you’ve got Isaac lundestrom with cutter goate and Brock mcin you got Jansen Harkins with Ross Johnston great name and Sam Colangelo on the back end it’s uh it’s Cam Fowler with Jacob trouba it’s I almost did it again Nick’s getting a lot of shout outs on this show Brian Duman with Radco goodas and Jackson lcome with Olen zel wagger we are unsure at who’s starting in goal both goalies for Anaheim are very good Lucas doy got the win a week and a half ago against Ottawa John Gibson is having a resurgent season here with the Ducks who is your Lookout player to watch my Lookout player to watch Ross is going to be number 65 newly T tinted duck newly well that orange tint is outrageous it looks so good with just the jersey but it’s a little too much orange here on their Road Unis yeah I’m not a fan of the orange especially the all orange their home I know what they’re doing the Orange County thing but they messed up a perfect thing the eggplant and teal jersey with the old Ducks logo especially the the new version of it I think they were wearing it last year was absolutely beautiful so they messed that up I’m wearing an eggplant hoodie here so you know big egg eggplant shade guy here if you had blindfolded me and said I guess not blindfolded me uh that would uh avoid me being able to see any color but if you lined up a bunch of colors and said what’s eggplant no clue no no clue all right well purple no no this is an educational podcast we appreciate that thank you yeah yeah um anyways back to Jacob trouba I think this is eggplant well we don’t know we’ve only seen him uh in the road jerseys up against Montreal Canadians where he played 22 minutes he’s up with Cam Fowler so interesting Dynamic there Ross because I think the word on the street is that Cam Fowler has been kind of requesting a trade to get out of there and then trouba didn’t want to trade and ends up getting sent here so two weirdly disgruntled veteran defensemen playing together we’ll see how that goes but I think trouba is going to have a chip on his shoulder and I think we’re going to see some of that physicality that he’s known for where when he was playing in New York he kind of knew he was a lame duck pardon the pun lame duck now he’s a now he’s a good duck I guess um so I think he’s going to be back with vengeance and this is a guy that’s obviously played against the Ottawa centers a bunch being the captain of the New York Rangers and it won’t have the same pop as Center ice at Madison Square Garden captain on Captain but uh maybe there’s a little bad blood between him and Brady as well so I’ll be looking out for that but number 65 the newest Anaheim Duck Jacob trouba is my Lookout player yeah I like that one from you he had a great game in his debut against Montreal I’m gonna go with Mason McTavish just obviously we’ve been a fan of him since his draft year and the stories coming out about him challenging clo jaru and summer skates he’s had a tough start to the year though it’s already his fourth NHL season now the first one he nine games he had two full seasons yeah this is third year yeah it’s crazy at times flying by but after 42 points and 19 goals last year in only 64 games in 20 games so far this season Mason McTavish only has two goals eight assists 10 points dash eight on the year and only one even strength goal and four even strength assists that’s five even strength points in 20 games and he’s playing in the top six now that zis is out of the lineup Leo Carlson’s out of the lineup you look up up and down this and in terms of young Talent like cutter goate is right there he’s kind of struggled too but Mason McTavish is the guy that they need to build around he’s top three pick I believe third overall if I’m not mistaken in the 2021 draft so it’s always going to be a friends and family affair the one time per season that he comes back to Ottawa I’m gonna be watching for him and his dad by the way is a pro Scout with the Ottawa Senators So a family affair I wonder if Dale will be in attendance tonight but Mason McTavish going to be my Lookout player to watch yeah I mean we both are big fans of his game so yeah he’s someone you got to watch out for especially Ross uh this will lead into my keys to Victory here the Anaheim Ducks are the worst team in the NHL in Faceoff win percentage they’re sitting at 42.1% and when you start looking down that list of centerman Ross you can kind of see why like stro mavich lundestrom and Harkins Harkins ironically is the only centerman above 50% win percentage on the faceoff so the Ottawa centers have a big chance here because the the Sens are actually a good Faceoff team they’re eighth in the league at 52.2% so Shad out G yeah g is a big part of that true um but if you’re able to win most of these draws you’re going to start with possession and up against this team I think just starting off with possession it’s a a weak lineup you can do a lot of damage here especially if you’re the National Hockey League over this current 11 game sample size so please be aggressive on the PK the Anaheim Ducks don’t have that Superstar like we’ve seen with other teams but neither did the New in that spot yeah so he was given way too much time on the right side and that’s maybe Ross where that diamond uh the right side of that diamond is a little weak and teams are checking the game notes bud and they’re realizing that so that’s an area where the Ottawa cators have to crack down and there’s no excuse like you cannot go up against the League’s worst Power Play and allow them to go two for two and then go up against the league 29th power play allow them to have success and without Leo Carlson yeah two two of their top guys out well we don’t know if Carlson’s going to be out or not but even if he’s playing he’s probably not out of 100% so this ends have to clean up the the penalty kill it just simply has not been good enough I mean you look at the the Ottawa senator’s penalty scored sends abroad Nick Paul High stick the puck was bouncing on top of the net and Nick Paul High sticked it towards the net but what they were arguing was that he High sticked it and then it bounced off of Darnell nurse which would negate a high stick before going in the net now the other side of this is you could never really see the puck in the net but it was one of those where physics would show that it was definitely there but you couldn’t see it and they called it no goal on the ice so it was a pretty quick review but Ottawa got lucky there with Tampa being a team in a wild card spot right now uh in terms of points percentage they are uh a team with games in hand on everybody right now so that was big and then talk about big how about a four game win streak for the Boston Bruins coming to a screeching halt they allowed five goals in the third period completely unraveled against the Winnipeg Jets and I don’t know if winnipeggers caught on to the S home opener chant two years ago but the swayman chants were rocking through Canada Life Center if you showed me that box score I would have been like oh wow tough game for Corp pasalo it’s insane that it’s Jeremy Swan that that happened to so yeah some sometimes Ross you need to get by with a Little Help from your friends thank you over to the West Coast for helping the sends out and they’re hoping to uh repeat the fourth and then gave him up for a fourth rental yeah Big Time Rental but he was sick man I’m a big fan of NES nikov game so yeah he he produced there we like to see that and we love to see Boston Tampa the Islanders the Penguins and the Blue Jackets all lose in regulation now Philly did win 5-3 they jump into that final wild card spot as of right now they’re just a team that’s playing with determination classic Tor style overachieving type team but that’s a team that Ottawa has two games in hand on and they’re two wins behind them so this is why I started the show you win your games in hand and it’ll be all good now could that game they pissed away against the Flyers come back to haunt them down the road you got to hope not but the Ottawa Senators do have an opportunity with a win tonight to be right back in the mix and put some separation towards the bottom of the standings because only five points separate the final wild card spot and dead last the Montreal Canadians in that game now you also have the Rangers playing the Buffalo Sabers tonight so that’s one where it’s like okay just don’t go to overtime but I’m leaning towards Buffalo because I want to see the Rangers continue to spiral and go into full Panic now Buffalo hasn’t won a game in how long like they’re uh they’re three four and three in their last 10 games but I want to say they’re seven in a in straight without a win I could be wrong on that but um I I’m going with the sabes tonight I know it’s kind of counterintuitive to go with the um the divisional team to win yeah the Sabres in their last seven games are 04 and three so give the Sabers a win tonight yeah let them let them have one yeah but isn’t it kind of annoying that even these teams that are on big losing streaks have like three loser points like come on and they’re right there with the sen Ros yeah they are but these are the types of games to end a home stand to against a weaker opponent and the betting line would show that you got you gotta win this game you you just the the out of town scoreboard can only help you so much you have to help yourself at a certain point and this would be a night where you jump the Blue Jackets in the standings you jump the Penguins in the standings and you’d be right there in the mix with the Islanders Rangers Flyers and lightning in terms of right there because the Senators the latest they’ve been in a playoff spot in the season is like October 15th the season started October 10th may I remind you but they this is this is an opportunity game so I’m excited for this one I’m really it’s really unfortunate how the game Sunday unraveled for them despite playing a very good game I know we clowned on the nine out of 10 times you win that game because frankly they just have not won those types of games but there’s a lot within how they played that if you replicate that tonight you do win that game nine out of 10 times yeah I mean I hope so um yeah Ross I would categorize this as a take care of business game and and it’s sad that you know the Ottawa centers are not in a position where like they can look down on the Ducks because literally the Ducks are what’s the point two like they can barely look down the Ducks are just two points back from the sends but you just take care of business beat this team at home and Mo and move on like that’s what needs to happen here all
