[Music] welcome Army fans to this very late night edition of your goblack nights.com um wrap up from the radiance Technologies Independence Bowl postgame analysis Army 27 Louisiana Tech six uh army with a dominant victory in their last game of the 2024 campaign uh most wins in the history of Army football at 12-2 uh so a very very good season um right nobody’s going to call it great because the lost the Navy we’ll wrap that up um you know as we reflect and look back on the season at the very end of this analysis um not a lot of analysis it was a dominating performance uh by Army against an outmatched Louisiana Tech Team Louisiana Tech finished the season five and eight after tonights loss um and they had 18 players hit the portal I think uh true Edwards their leading receiver also hit the portal but he played in the game so that was good um so I mean army army dominated right from the opening whistle uh Trey granady kicked the opening kickoff out of bounds again he had problems with kickoffs again and army had problems with kick coverage all night that was probably the only weak spot in Army’s game um army went ahead and uh got a stop on the first drive after one first down and then uh the offensive line came out and the mob came out with an edge they were angry they got a great push not only on the first drive but all night but especially on that first drive that first drive went eight plays 80 yards uh and Hayden Reed did a really nice job um you know filling in and stepping up to become the starting BB back really the number one option at beback Jake rendida had a good game uh Carson Smith had a good game but Hayden Reed had ended up with over a 100 yards on the night and um let’s see if we look at the stats Hayden had 20 carries for 114 yards 5.7 average and a touchdown Bryson da CA the first drive with a touchdown run um so uh Army goes up there seven to nothing after that uh daily touchdown run on the first drive uh you know my analysis there again is just that the I’m sorry the first drive yeah the the Army offensive line the mob was just dominant um Conor fukin was playing with an edge bill katsanis was playing with an edge Brady small was playing with an edge uh they showed tonight why they were the Joe Moore award-winning best offensive line in college football um army total on the evening rushed for um gosh I’m going to have to get better with this phone guys Army rushed for a total of 321 yards so they will still be the nation’s leader after tonight um 386 yards of total offense uh just like I said really was never a close game credit to Louisiana Tech for stepping in and taking this game when Marshall uh had to drop out and so many other teams decided not to play army um you know credit to Louisiana Tech for taking the game and playing and and playing hard you could tell they wanted to be there they played really hard um and but Army was just a better team tonight and just dominated the game um 27 to6 might be a closer score than some people want but at the end of the day it was a dominating performance army with 386 yards of total offense um 321 on the ground 65 passing most of that came on a big pass play to David crosson who got his first reception of the year uh went all the way down to the 5 yard line then Brayson Del took it in on the next play um let’s talk a little bit about brayon Del’s record setting night 32 rushing touchdowns that is the most in a season by any quarterback in the history of division one football and overall it’s the third most rushing touchdowns in in a season behind only Barry sandard and Monty ball so uh for all the Bryson daily haters out there the man did do something that only two other players in the history of college football have done we’ll see if Ashton jenty is able to catch Bryson or not he’ll need um three touchdowns against Penn State on Saturday or hope Boise he wins and he can get more uh in future games so you know one of the coolest things about that is Bryson daily breaks Keenan Reynolds record for Mo most rushing touchdowns in a season like I said the offensive line was dominant all night uh when Gordon asks me for my MVP for Monday Morning Quarterback on offense it’s actually going to be the mob uh you know da had huge numbers but because of just the overall dominance um of the army Russian game I’m giving it to the entire mob this week Hayden Reed 20 for 114 Bryson 20 7 for 127 Noah short 5 for 27 Tyrell Robinson four for 25 Carson Smith who will be probably the number two or number three fullback next year he’ll get a decent number of carries five carries for 21 yards it was good to see him get some action as a sophomore he’ll be a key piece of the puzzle next year Jake randina had one carry for six yards even though he’s used primarily as a blocker so that was nice to see but I think I think in Hayden Reed we really have something there I think he’ll be the feature back next year in the offense as probably the number one beback and with not having a quarterback who will be as strong of a power Runner obviously as Bryson was uh this may be Hayden Reed’s team on offense obviously we’ll need contributions from Noah short we’ll be need contributions from Dwayne Coleman or whoever starting quarterback is next year um well we can talk about next year next year uh you know I I think partly because of what happened in the Navy game um maybe but what Bryson da did was absolutely historic people shouldn’t sell it short it was one of the greatest Seasons any rushing quarterback has had in the history of football it was one of the greatest Seasons any army quarterback has had uh in the history of Army’s program um if you look at army Heisman Trophy winners none of them were quarterbacks so da did finish six in the Heisman voting he was a finalist for a number of other Awards um I get that he’s relatively one-dimensional as a player but when you look at what he did this year it is historic it does deserve recognition he got 12 wins he won a conference Championship and he rushed for 32 touchdowns so that that says something he also picked up um I believe his 12th 100 yard rushing game tonight um I believe the only only games he didn’t rush for 100 were Navy and Lehi surprisingly enough the Lehi game the open the season oh and he didn’t play against their forc so uh 11 100 yard rushing games for brys and Daly um you know had he played against Air Force uh would have been really interesting to see where his total rushing touchdowns would have ended up um he probably would have passed Monty ball don’t think he would have caught Sanders but pretty impressive nonetheless um you know let’s put a cap on this season uh you know as we look oh you know what I didn’t even talk about the defense tonight the defense played awesome all night long uh granted they were playing against a not amazing super talented offense but they only gave up six points held Louisiana Tech out of the end zone all night um gave up in terms of total yardage uh gave up only 218 total yards so that was really good 169 passing 49 rushing which I thought was really good um louing a tech only had one yard rushing the first half but really sold out and committed to running the ball in the second half and army still hold held them the 48 yards rushing in the second half so really good job there uh turnover battle was even tonight Army owned time of possession 40 minutes to 19 minutes um had a huge 21pl scoring Drive in the second quarter that tied their scoring drive for most number of plays that they got against North Texas um that started I believe with 1245 or 1445 left in the second quarter and uh went all the way past the two-minute timeout in the second quarter so amazing Drive uh there for Army and again just shows the dominant performance of the offense and the mob um let’s see in addition to that uh defensively like I said uh they got the one turnover uh interception on fourth down and the endzone by Jaden Mae so great job there um defense really Des Shantz gray had a really good game on the dline Trey Sophia those guys ran a number of stunts and put Louisiana Texas quarterback bulock Under Pressure all night long um I’m trying to see if I have set stats on sacks I don’t know unfortunately maybe individually in the Box Score we’ve got something let me look um yeah let’s see Caleb forner had a sack Des Shantz gray had a sack uh those were the only two sacks but seemed like their quarterback was under a lot of duress uh D Dominico had half a tackle for loss Justin Weaver had a tackle for loss um let’s see Caleb forner led the team in tackles with seven no surprise there we did see andon Thomas leave the game with an injury um not sure what that was don’t want to speculate on it but breter did a nice job filling in for and then in relief um Trey Grady uh missed only his second field goal the season um he seemed off the last couple weeks so we’re definitely going to need enderson Britain back next year and we’re GNA have to uh he’ll help out a lot on kickoffs and um who knows what the field goal kicking situation will look like but um as we look at this Army season in retrospect right the Navy game just kind of left a sour taste in everyone’s mouth and if you heard the comments that Jeff monin made nobody was more frustrated disappointed or ticked off than he was uh I spoke with Caleb forner this week he was extremely ticked off about the performance in the Navy game I mean credit to Navy they’re a really good team I honestly think both Army and Navy should be ranked at the end of this season uh can’t believe I’m saying that obviously I think Army should be ranked higher but uh both teams I believe have earned a ranking Navy with their their win over us and their winning the bulll over Oklahoma um but I know that game kind of left the sour taste in everyone’s mouth and rightfully so it is the most important Game of the Year Caleb forner told me that the other night Jeff monin will tell you that Bryson Dy will tell you that I’ll tell you that most important game of the year and they lost that game without winning that game you can’t call this an outstanding or a tremendous or stupendous or great season I’m kind of paraphrasing Jeff monin there but it was a really good season what did Army accomplish this year 12 wins most in program history first Conference Championship their first year in the AAC obviously the first in conference history or or first in program history uh Bryson Dy we talked about his season sixth in the Heisman voting 32 rushing touchdowns um phenomenal season there uh the running game in general had a phenomenal season the offensive line every offensive lineman got either an allconference or an allamerican award or both in a lot of cases and they won the Joe Moore award for the best offensive line in the country Army led the country in rushing uh other than the Navy game and and a rare turnover here or there Army hardly turned the ball over at all all season um the unsung heroes of the team were the defense I mean the defense was great in a numberous statistical categories um stop percentage that Nate Woody likes to talk about a lot um uh points allowed red zone defense fourth down defense uh interceptions there were a lot of statistical categories the defense was great in and and most importantly just teams didn’t put up a lot of points you look at the games obviously the Navy game with 31 Notre Dame with 49 but we’re not going to talk about Notre Dame they’re putting up points on everybody we’ll see how they do against Georgia this week um and then East Carolina who won their bowl game tonight put up 28 but other than that Army did not surrender more than 20 points against any other team they played which is really really good especially in this past happy era of college football do I believe Army’s complimentary nature of playing football and the amount of time the offense holds the ball helps with that absolutely but the defense did what they had to do all season long and they were super effective what’s exciting on defense whereas we lose a lot of key guys on offense the only really key players we’re losing on defense are Kyle Lewis um chance Keith uh and Max D Dominico pretty much everybody else from that defense is back next year I truly think the defense is going to be the strength of the team so as you kind of try to encapsulate how do you talk about this season I mean gosh there were so many positives right 12- two most wins ever by an army team conference champion uh dominated to Lane in the conference Championship game um undefeated at Mikey uh you know only losses were to Navy and Notre Dame phenomenal season when you look at it without the cic trophy without the win over Navy as a West Point fan as an army fan you can’t truly say the season was awesome right so how do we put this into context I was thinking about this this week and maybe the best analogy I can think of in sports I would love to see you guys in the comments or on the 12th night page give me your analogy or or how you would wrap this season up um I think to say the season was a failure because we lost the Navy is extremely one-sided shortsighted and dumb and not accurate to call the season phenomenal discounts the lost to na and is also not accurate in my opinion so I think all of us as West Point grads and army fans are trying to figure out how to come to grips with this season and everything it was and then what happened on December 14th um so as I was thinking about it if you go back to the Miracle on Ice the 1980 Olympic us hockey team that of course defeated the Soviets uh in the semifinals um defeated the IET Union uh 4 to3 and the Soviets had the greatest hockey team of all time and of course that’s why they called it the Miracle on Ice if you’re a sports fan I don’t really need to give you the history You could argue it was the greatest upset in the history of sports um but what a lot of people don’t know especially people who weren’t around in 1980 is that game was not for the gold medal the US had to come back the next day and defeat Finland to win the gold medal if the US doesn’t defeat Finland because of the way the Olympics was set up the next day I believe I could be wrong in this I don’t believe they would have meddled um Finland lost to the US they didn’t medal uh the Soviet Union took the silver Sweden took the bronze it was some weird thing where was all based on like goals and points and wins and and a hockey person can probably explain it better than I can I will be the first to admit I not a hockey person but if you look at that had the US upset the Soviets and then lost the Finland would we still be talking about that game 44 years later and making movies about it and documentaries and writing books about it and talking all about the 1980 US Olympic hockey team I would argue that without the win over Finland and without the gold Med medal that story is not nearly as cool and we’re probably still not talking about it and all those things I just talked about never happened um so I would actually compare this Army season to excuse me winning the conference Championship and going 12-2 and winning the bowl game was the equivalent of beating the Soviet Union now it wasn’t an upset it wasn’t like oh the Miracle on Ice or whatever but it was just this awesome thing that coming into the season Army was picked to finish fifth even yours truly a gbk I picked us to go eight and four uh never thought we’d run the table the way we did um but I’d kind of equate the season to the US Olympic hockey team in 19 beating the Soviets losing the Navy was like what would have happened if the US Olympic hockey team had lost to Finland in the finals um no medal I don’t think the Soviet upset gets talked about nearly as much as it has for the last 40 years and that team isn’t nearly as famous as they are so you know with the loss to Navy you have to take that and put this season into perspective as a result of it um as a result I would say I myself people might disagree with me I would say the 2018 and 2017 Army teams that won the commander-in-chief’s trophy I would rank them higher in the pantheon of best Jeff monin teams because both those teams won the cic and Beat Navy uh I would probably rank this team right behind the 2020 team who went N9 and3 and also won the cic granted it was on our home turf uh because of covid different weird kind of season uh but I would probably personally put this team because of the lost to Navy uh as the fourth best in the monin era um clearly better than the two six and six teams that Beat Navy the last two years uh and the six and six team that won the cic last year um you know I think if if you’re not willing to admit that you probably put way too much emphasis on the Army Navy game I know it’s the most important game of the year but it doesn’t make up for a differential in wins that of six wins um so I I would probably rank this the third or fourth best Jeff monin coach team um that’s out for debate want to hear the debate on the 12th night want to hear what you guys have to say um but all in all a great season it’s just like we beat the Soviets but ug we lost the Finland and didn’t win a medal um that’s kind of how it feels but uh you know they capped it off the right way and they’ve got momentum going into 2025 uh we’ve got plenty of time to talk about the offseason and next season probably some questions at quarterback um whatever the offense looks like next year it’ll be different than this year’s offense there won’t be nearly as much QB power and QB follow I don’t think because Bryson D was a unique individual and what I kind of would love to see everybody do over the next couple days to a week is just sit back and just think about the the great season that Army did have um correction the really good season that Army did have and the 12 wins in the conference Championship and what this really what it’s about is what this group of senior leaders brought to the program uh they said the only team that’s one more games in the last since last November 1st the only team with a better record than Army is Oregon uh Army’s 15- two over that stretch so it’s pretty impressive and the whole like oh they don’t play anybody that’s a bunch of BS honestly it just is and I’m just over it the American Conference is now six and one in bowl games East Carolina won their bowl game UTSA won their bowl game tane got gutted by the portal and had a really tough Bowl opponent and didn’t win their bowl game Navy won their bowl game and South Florida won their bowl game and I’m probably forgetting another one North Texas or somebody but Navy beat all those or Army beat all those Ball Teams um you know they beat a really good two-lane team in the conference Championship that was ranked for a while uh and and we can go back in the not too dis distant history and find Army teams who lost to plenty of bad football teams so the whole oh they didn’t play anybody so they’re not that good look what happened when they got up against stop it this was a really really good football team who happened to have a bad day on December 14th and came up against a talented team that did not have a bad day that day um so anyway 12-2 uh they finished the season the right way sent the seniors out on a winning note and you know congratulations big catch by David crosson uh today tonight uh his dad did a lot of videography work for us here at gbk especially last season great guy uh just his parents are just great people had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with them brys and Dy had the opportunity to meet his family they’re great people of course Brett Jarina and his dad Joe has helped us out with some podcasts and and the D dominicos and the daes and and uh I know I’m leaving people out that’s the danger to this but just want to highlight the seniors and what they’ve done for the program Connor fuk and I got the opportunity to interview his mom uh a couple years ago before the Army Navy game and this group of seniors was a great group and uh did a great job 12 wins most wins in Army history um it’s super late so I’m rambling this is probably not my greatest postgame analysis ever my voice is also super dry um so anyway Army fans once again army with the win in the radiance Technologies Independence Bowl 27 to6 over Louisiana Tech they finish the season 12-2 until
