saw in that game champions league and so much going on um I want to take you back to the moment where Liverpool managed to win their penalty don’t Donnie vanderbank with a foul here on Diaz what did you guys think genuinely when you saw at Maka as it happened I thought it was no penalty I really did I know he’s sort of sort of accidentally stands on his heel but nobody appeals for it the game Carries On And as they do in Europe V suddenly start getting involved and you know he stands on his heel he slipp a bit it was a very scruffy decision wasn’t it to give um to give a penalty I wouldn’t have been particularly happy I mean it’s great for Liverpool of course it is but if if I was on the opposite ends I’d be distra about it yeah there was no doubt when he stepped up though that man been quiet all evening really and then all of a sudden he steps up continues his Rich scoring a winning goal it’s like that’s all he’s there for that’s what he wants to do was Don Van bake I mean he’s unlucky there but she put himself in that position in the first place Rio yeah may maybe the only criticism is maybe a bit overzealous in terms of trying to get to the ball cuz it was he didn’t even get to the ball in the end either he didn’t touch the ball but I’m I’m like Ma I just think that there’s no real intention or intent to step on his his yeah his ankle and and and take his boot off Andy clumsy is probably the best word maybe he’s G the referee an opportunity to make a decision or V to get involved get yeah for V to get involved mate that was it is it I mean you expect your midfielders to go to close down but if you accidentally stand on the you know an inch of his heel on the back I mean it’s very very fortunate you know it is a with all respect it’s a it’s a contact game and you we see a lot more contacts at corners and at three kicks which go you know all mention to so I’d be um I don’t think it was a penalty regardless of the results I agree let’s have a look at some of Jon’s best moments Rio at times were you impressed with their performance yeah at times they they showed that like this was a great opportunity one of their best of the game Dy blind probably the wrong person in that position to execute but I thought they showed enough in the game that their manager I think would be taking a lot of positives from they’re playing against probably the form side in Europe at the moment and the game was a close game in that sense in ter especially in terms of the score line but it wasn’t like a game where sometimes you see a team who who you say I wouldn’t really bet on them to be a threat in the game they cause opportunities where I’m sure Liverpool fans have their hearts in their minds at moments in this game and I think they have to take big credit for that look at this this wasn’t it we’ve seen Dan unfortunately but we know the players and we know a lot of the players cuz we’ve seen them in the Premier League and Dan Z is unfortunately that’s what he’s he’s known for hell of a talent can beat people can drop shoulders but it’s his final product his end product let him down and that’s what it did today and Liverpool dominated the second half really and you see you see a lot of these teams the smaller teams they like backs against the wall defensive defend look at the stats there they they had many shots on goal their opportunities they were actually picking their moments within the game to be a threat so I think as I said as a the manager and as a team I think they can take enormous credit from this game I know you’ve said in the past this season that you’re not necessarily surprised that Anna slot has has done well and hit the ground running but six out of six in in the Champions League is by anyone’s standards I thought this transition would be quite seamless but I’ve been very very surprised by the results without a shadow of a doubt you know going away to Milan you know I expect bolog of course but leig have always got a decent P you know to go away and the and play the lusin and the madrids and beat them and beat them easily you know that has been surprising but I I did think Liverpool would qualify out of this group I didn’t I had no quals at all with the talent at the disposal but I didn’t expect them to be almost perfect as to where they’re sitting now in the league in the Champions League and in the League Cup which will come next week won’t it it is early doors and and I hate asking these kind of questions but you have to when there’s a superar record that Liverpool have got at the moment do they make do they make themselves favorites for you Rio at the moment for the Champions League I think I I always struggle with that at this stage it’s like but form wise right now yes they have to be the favorites but the the trophy isn’t handed out right at this point and the way that think the makeup of a squad and a team physically mentally uh and form wise and momentum wise come March April times will be very different to what we see now so I think you’ve got you kind of have to be a bit patient they definitely have all the makeup and all the markings of a team that can be successful this season but I think it’s how you get into those areas of this season form wise and and with your team physically physically really determines where you’re going to be we’ve seen the best team around that we’re going to watch in in 5 minutes they’ve constantly struggled to get to The Knockout phase and as soon as February comes it’s like a switch is is flicked in Madrid and they suddenly turn it on so as much as the struggler now and they’re in 24th before tonight’s games um and they’ve got a team who who were top of ser who going to who they’re going to meet they they will still be one of the favorites surprisingly because of who they’ve got on the team and when they’re ready when they’re ready to go when the when the business end comes just back to Liverpool as well they we saw a bit of rotation tonight we saw Allison come back into starting lineup as well so they can build on that and the criticism might be compared to last season towards the end of the season they fell away a little bit Liverpool because they struggled with those kind of injuries is that the biggest threat to them this season yeah injuries are a threat to every single Squad and and that’s you got to try and manage that but you need luck I don’t care no matter who you are Real Madrid talking about the most successful team in this competition they would have needed like different points of the season with all those victories and Liverpool be no different but you’ve you’ve got I think when you can take breaks in a season like Liverpool have afforded himself in the next two games here you have to be wise with those opportunities to take breaks for players they got fham next who are a difficult team to beat just ask Arsenal um how do you see that one going well then without bassi who’s um who’s suspended isn’t he and they are at home so you’d have to fancy them at home just to keep on rolling on and then they’ve got a League Cup game I think they’ve got Tottenham away which should be difficult but you just don’t know what you’re going to get with Tottenham and then you’ve got the Christmas period And if you’re top at Christmas or top at New Year there’s certain statistics to say you can go far in this comp in these competitions there are all right guys more reaction to this game is available over on the gold show ex with six wins out of six now for er a slot in the Champions League with Liverpool well I know the the headlines tomorrow will read no doubt um 100% record six wins and six games so I’m guessing the result are you pleased Jona as well they’ve made it really difficult for every team that has played here in the Champions League for the exception when they played PSV Ando they uh they had a difficult game but for the rest they’ve always been in the game and today they were definitely part of the game as well they had numerous good chances and we had to thank Allison that we kept the clean sheet what does it say about the conversation that we had pregame about the re-inclusion of Allison in that team and show him what his quality is once again between the sticks yeah maybe his teammates wanted to make sure if he was really fit uh to give him a lot of work no it’s of course not the idea but um yeah he showed today and I I don’t think anybody needed him to show it today because everybody knows he’s the best goalkeeper in the world but he showed today that he that he is that he definitely is this because he was so important for us with so many saves and just finally the building blocks that you spoke about the standards in terms of not reaching it today but still getting the result is that maybe show a sign of maybe Champions and what they can do in these type of comps not too sure not too sure I agree that um games that you don’t play that well you have to win it but you cannot concede so many chances we conceded so our standards have to go up if we want to achieve something in this competition because um although they have a very good game idea very good idea about football there will be teams that are even better than is and if you come up with this intensity we had today uh on another day you get two or three goals you can see two or three goals and then you’re not able to fix this in your home game I appreciate the honestly app that’s an unusual conversation it’s a funny one you don’t see that one too often Andy Robertson is standing by just post match interview so it’s uh the perfect run of victory in this champions league for you yeah of course yeah sex WS out of six you know we can’t ask for much better than that it’s not easy to do or you know there would be more teams doing it um so yeah our performances have have been good we’ve we’ve won games and um but you know we’ve played a lot better than tonight that’s for sure we weren’t at our highest level tonight but at this point it’s about winning the games and and securing qualification and I think I think we’ve done that we saw many control on your game never Panic yeah how you can explain that yeah look I think we had to be a be bit more in control I think sometimes in the first half especially it was a bit of a basketball match kind of back and forward and and that’s what they wanted and you know we left ourself too open gave our goalkeeper too much to do which which isn’t like us so you know our pressing and things like that was maybe a we bit off but then when we were on the ball we had a bit of control we were created chances we could have scored a couple but um you know like it says we got a clean sheet we won the game we can play a lot better than we did but um you know three points is cruo especially away from home in the in the Champions League and you man of the match is it the first time on Champions League or not no had one before had one before I think a couple of years ago but um but yeah obviously look delighted to get it obviously about the team but it’s always nice to to get that recognition and last question about Mohammed Salah isor again is in very very great shape yeah scoring goals um you know I think he’s played better than he did tonight I think you know most of us have but you know when when we need him the most he he steps up and you know he’s so good from the penalty spot and you know we never doubt him when we get the penalties and and luckily put it away and then um it was just about seeing out the game then and luckily we limited them to Chances and yeah like you said he’s a match winner again thank you very much congratulations thank you around hit a little bit softer for a start now the result from the Celtic game is in that’s a nil nil draw so you know we did better than the on a rival television station there I talk to Damen about that when he gets back here on Saturday but talk to a bit more about this Liverpool performance we weren’t impressed overall uh but they don’t need to worry about it too much presumably it’s another win and they’re sailing through to the top eight in the champions league right yeah exactly yeah exactly huge games coming up you can almost argue he can serve the bit of tonight didn’t have to get Top Gear still be a little bit wory though I’ve got to be honest with you you ever so slightly I mean be hugely impressed with Liverpool this season not get to me wrong in possession and out possession of the football but that’s kind of another a once off and I don’t M teams managing the game have to dominate games for 90 minutes and play a high tempo for kind of 90 minutes have that conversation about Tottenham All Season aren’t we or more teams who can drop off step step away from the ball just kind of conserve energy and manage games I did never quite felt Liverpool and to control of that game for 90 minutes that’s all I’d say they wanted through this penalty Shay which I think you’re so much UB if you look at this first angle and what keep your eye on the referee actually to start will break we’ll go a bit closer on the thing the referee can see exactly he’s telling him to get up he’s telling Diaz to get up at this point he doesn’t think it’s a penalty and is it a clear and obvious error I don’t think it is look there’s the reason his boots come off is because van the B’s gone and stood on his thing I think it’s totally accidental I know Liverpool fans will be shouting at the TV what why he’s in it I’m happy Liverpool won I’m just I’m just giving my opinion on why I don’t think it’s a penalty and the referee obviously was called someone in his ear said you come and check this out we think it’s a penalty you got to give it and he’s gone over and every 99 times at 100 they give it when they go over to the screen but I actually think this season the bar is supposed to be risen especially in the Premier League the bar has been risen the referee decision unless it’s clear and obvious I don’t think it’s clear and obvious Kenny I think it’s the right decision it’s a bit of an odd one he stamps down on the back soft Kenny it’s a penalty soft extra soft double scoop can I’m asking the question like genuine can you actually accidentally like sort of and not be a f or a penalty that’s what I’m asking yeah I’d argue most of the penal is given her accidentally I don’t think that’s an excuse a lot of people accidentally go to make a tackle and down what he’s genuinely trying to get the ball or whatever don’t get me wrong but he stamps on the back of what I’m saying he has to stand somewhere he’s just actually going sort of somewhere but as soon as you stand in the in the hill of a player you take off his Boot and then when he goes to plant that left foot to the ground that’s why his legs gives away cuz he hasn’t got his boot on why hasn’t he got his buil on cuz Don so he’s impeding yeah accidentally doesn’t come into it for me he’s impeded his ability to get a shot off it’s a bit of an odd one I think it’s really soft I think that’s yeah I think that’s reasonably clear if you accidentally trip somebody up in the Box though that would be a penalty so I don’t saying here about the intent he’s effectively stood on his foot there whether come back and he defend the box you can see van there just holding up the boot yeah well he’s making it obvious obviously I know there’s coming to together people clearly what he says it’s a penalty is a penalty it’s soft whatever but he’s gone back to defend the Box try and get numbers around DS to stop and getting the shot off and and naturally just running close to him and I just think it’s very very soft Kenny now I take your point but there’s no intention there whatsoever but does he impede Diaz impede his opportunity gets a shot off in in a funny old way yes you think he does so I think by the letter the lar is right and you’re right probably doesn’t see it initially might he might see and doesn’t think it’s a penalty but we know we all know the game when you’re told to go over to the side of the pitch you’re being told to go over and change your mind well that is yeah know which is ridiculous but that is the point of our is it not to pick up so the what I’m saying what I’m saying the referee it’s not like someone’s ran across him sometimes a ref you can’t see from a different angle he’s literally like five five or six yards away he’s seeing it and he’s actually telling Diaz to get up you know and then then obviously they’re saying hang on a minute you’ve got that wrong so then technically he’s not refereeing the guy in the VR is called the two captains over before he went did a bit of Ruby style almost it’s like having a word just keeping possibly because people were giving out or whatever if the boot hadn’t come off KY right if he had done the same stamping motion boot hadn’t come off would that have been a penalty no is it just because the boot came off yeah exactly the boot came off and that’s why he slipped his standing leg is gone oh you think it’s after the boot came off it’s because his foot slipped yeah yeah absolutely cuz when when he he he um makes contact with the back of his leg he doesn’t send him down he takes another step forward but he takes another step forward with his sock on his foot and that’s why slips so it is he’s for me he’s still actually impeding the player very unusual but I think it’s a penalty yeah short and sweet questions to the point I could probably learn a thing or two says Kenny I’d imagine I think he might have been he might have been watching our postmatch stuff there not in control in the first half he said at one stage is what we’re talking about and also this lack of quality he’s alluded to it that’s obvious to anybody who played in or watched that game can we have a little look at where Liverpool fell down a bit compared to their usual quality yeah it wouldn’t be hard to find it just list in those forward areas of the pitch kind of front three so used to Liverpool B them well in these areas little kind of one twos but just kind of G it up so often H poor decision making wrong execution not exactly sure what Salah looking for there it’s totally kind of over hit and now they got a lot of players behind the ball but Liverpool are good at this Andy Robertson never saw Andy Robertson get beyond the 18 yard box tonight I don’t think that’s a coincidence here’s the Liverpool fullback look at that body language from Alexander Arnold it’s absolutely awful um yeah just no quality uh no kind of fluency uh yeah just nothing nothing really couple initial couple of passes here Salah got an option on his outside poor quality Robertson was asked about him tonight we know he’s been a key man for Liverpool during the course of the season but he was well off of tonight even there Diaz it’s a 4v2 situation just got to take a better touch and just be a little bit more patient so yeah just the decision making and the execution was a little bit all over the place I’ve they marked nunz as a maybe a factor towards that playing in that kind of central striking position but that’s too easy wouldn’t have levered up all of it on his shoulders just felt as if from a creative point of view they were way off of tonight Andy Robertson player of the match did you see that I suppose it was one where not that many people played well I think you feel Ryan graur probably was the best player but I didn’t I didn’t feel I thought it was harsh asking was if you ever had man of the match before was interested that many games played I think there were there weren’t loads of probably top performances and and and the give it the and he spoke well actually after the game he was really honest he always is isn’t he remember they went through their really bad Los losing streak dur in the clap days he was sort of frontting up and doing inter speaking tonight he was honest we interview saying weren at their best first first half was a basketball game you know end to end which which we don’t normally see we Liverpool are more control and I just think tonight it was maybe more mental thing on that that that there was I wouldn’t say arrogance it was kind of like Jona struggling in the a league struggling big time in the Champions League we just got to turn up and and sort of in inverted Comas go through the motions and I don’t think you can do that you can’t pick up the level halfway through a game I think it’s interesting in terms of Robertson You’ think of M is best for Liverpool morard and kind of left back you know High positions High the pitch slinging crosses into the box getting on to the end of things like been a real threat from the attacking point of view interesting like this tactical setup on their slot obviously Arnold’s coming into that hardit Midfield position they’re swiveling into that back three which we see with a lot of teams but he’s getting pulled he’s getting pulled back into a central defensive position we’re not seeing him on those raiding runs down the left hand side as much like I said don’t remember him getting beyond the 18 yard box and that’s a shame for me that’s always been one of his strength again that’s the coaching thing from the manager isn’t it he probably looks at Trent and goes we want you more forward down that right hand side and and Andy gives a bit more balance as a team from the defensive side of things but your re is taken away from his defensive side because you know in his pump Andy Robertson down the left wing cut backs you know crosses in he’s he’s he’s end to end stuff but again it’s the way maybe arnest Lots changed his team a little bit it’s not him at all it’s not Robertson getting a little bit older and maybe not being able to or wanting to make those bursts no I don’t think so I think that was always his strength he was always kind of very comfortable and not their best Liverpool they two fullbacks play in their Orthodox fullback positions you those raking Crossfield passes between the two and playing one two was over to 50 yards we almost got used to that Alexander Arnold on the Right Touch line zinging balls into the far post Robinson coming in at the back post it was one of the strengths of their game was a really kind of standout feature so that’s changed changed last year with Trent coming into this new H Central Midfield H position now under a slot little bit more tactical possession based keep more players behind the ball and I think he suffered a little bit because of it not their greatest performance yeah a little bit yeah we’re try of scratching around they probably show some action after the game yeah I was we talk about don’t over don’t you know don’t overh post match coverage here we do talk about AR slot and what he’s changed since since klopp and stuff and it’s more control and it felt like they were in control of the game all night really example of that one because I know people have been saying that but I found them quite entertaining in certain games Real Madrid was entertaining tonight wasn’t really was it felt there was Noy about them there was control but there was no urgency to go and get a second goal or a third goal I felt they were lucky with the penalty as well I thought it was harsh on Von de beak that you know he put come off and by the law I suppose it’s a penalty but the ref didn’t see it we’re looking at four or five different angles in the studio to try and see some sort of a a little coming together I thought the penalty was harsh um and again yeah I mean d Darwin news spoke about half time spoke about beforeand he got dragged after 70 minutes to you know take him off take him out of his misery because the longer he was staying on it felt the worse he was getting I don’t like saying that but a but a professional footballer but he he’s really you know struggling in a Liverpool team at the minute were they even in control on the first half second half yeah first half it felt like was actually quite a decent dingdong yeah I think it’s a fair point cuz I’ve seen Li you’ve seen Liverpool drop off at this so take the sting out of the game and kind of you know take a step back and almost concede possession to the opposition team but they’re almost in control even though they haven’t got the ball you feel as if they’re in control of things not giving up chances very comfortable in their defensive structure never quite got a sense of that this even was a little bit more loose around the pitch real drop off from certain individuals concentration levels h w there G around the pitch so yeah I think you’re right this didn’t this didn’t fill me with confidence tonight in terms of the performance just felt you were a little bit open a better team maybe would have exploited that and just couldn’t get their passing game going at all newz Diaz H Salah just no combination play there whatsoever course Jones spoke him before the game pry of the game slob SL hardly saw him either so yeah hard to take too many positives out that game apart from the overalls you CL Chi another three points he was going to throw that positive in there they got another another win so that’s six and a row now in the Champions League they’ve considered one goal all season in the Champions League and Gary and rob outlin their overall record under slot like but even in the Champions League alone it’s been fairly Flawless so far yeah maximum points sit on top of the league you know arnest slot will look at the performance not not to the level maybe he wants to but at the same time it’s a sign of a good team you know a team that’s that’s Flying high in the Premier League and of course sit on top of the Champions League um still a few questions as Kenny says the front three didn’t really link up well moala got his goal suppose that’ll be in the papers and the stats you know with with the goal but he didn’t didn’t play to the levels we know he can play I think he’s a brilliant player but maybe not tonight um I think that’s that’s the problem you said it the link of play was there I’ve mentioned myself but sow Quin since Nunez is playing the center that three and invariably we start talking about Liverpool no cohesion combination play up front it’s generally when he’s in the middle of that three you throw Lis Diaz in there kind of Gap go or J in that Central Area suddenly it be all becomes a little bit more fluid in there it’s a little bit more natural we’re seeing those one little two touch combination slid Dr passes people anticipating kind of you know on the same kind of wavelength like I said when Nunez comes in there for me almost fractures that a little bit little bit he’s his favorite player to play with as I mentioned before the match he was doing the Q&A there last I think we all realized he was trying to give him maybe trying to give a confidence boost I think so I think his manager tried to give him a confidence boost by putting him on the pitch tonight saying here’s a real opportunity against in team con is struggling a little bit get out there and fill your boots almost in terms of goals and he hasn’t done that and it’ be a question mark now in terms of Nunez going forward second half the season every game’s a big game for Liverpool can you really trust this fell from the start with some of those big games H coming up the Jona side of things they put up the Liverpool for the first half didn’t probably offer much lost confidence as it as were saying as it went on and now they’ve got Milan and Arsenal the last two games so this competition what it’s a dream for them to make it here and the format of it looked like it would give these sort of teams a chance they haven’t got have they got much of a chance really they’ve only three points now after games I don’t think any chance I mean it was as you say made a bit of History to get the competition to start with and and and simply not good enough at this level I suppose they huff and puffed I mean Dan jum done all right tonight if he had his finishing boots on maybe something better but he he he skipped past Trent Alexander at ease at times I like a spr as well on on the other side he was he was a decent player as well um if you ask me about all the six games I’m I’m really pleased with all the results I’m really pleased with the five games the way we played I’m far from pleased uh about um the performance tonight what not soed about a lot um but especially two things uh if you play against the team that is such a good idea about uh football uh knows how to bring the ball out from the back like some other teams we faced recently like City or Real Madrid then you need to be so intense if you want to make it difficult for them but if you’re every time waiting a few seconds before you press and if you do press you are so easily outplay yeah then this team can cause you a lot of problems and that’s what they showed uh during the whole Champions League campaign except for PSV IO away so I almost feel sorry for them because they deserve so much more in this Champions League campaign than the three points they have till now but yeah we have an incredible goalkeeper uh the other part was that every time we lost the ball we were not aggressive enough so Every Time We Lost the ball they could just almost every time go all the way to our goal having a shot or a blocked shot and then uh we could attack again so hardly any control at all over the game maybe the second half was a bit better but um yeah then I’m then I’m trying to be positive CH just check the microphones on I mean what did you say you had more control set out to beir they didn’t really have the same chances set out maybe the first five or 10 minutes they they they went uh in the uh on the counter attack one or two times still yeah like so many times uh this this season uh if if a team plays us they do something different than they do uh all the other games that probably uh we might see this as a compliment for the for what we’ve done till now on the quality of our players but yeah they they played without the nine bit a bit similar like lusen so um it wasn’t always easy for us uh to press them well but I don’t think it had that much to do with tactics because if it’s only tactics in terms of how you have to defend then it’s when they have the ball when they bring the ball out from the back but if we lose the ball and they could also go all the way to our goal that tells me that in general we were by far not aggressive enough without the ball and and um yeah maybe the goal helped us most that we scored a goal from a penalty CH m a couple of Miss chances in the first half he seems bit maybe low on confidence do you agree um what I can agree on is that he missed a few chances then it’s always the question does this have anything to do with low of confidence or is this a situation where he’s in at the moment I think every Striker all around the world uh has periods where everybody every ball goes in and sometimes he has a period where yeah you try so hard but you’re not able to score the good thing is that we have many players that can score for us today Mo again uh would have love to see Darwin score because I think every Striker wants to score needs goals uh that’s why I kept him in for quite a long time he was a threat but unfortunately couldn’t score because yes Allison made a lot of saves but I think if you make a highlight of this game we will see a few chances that we had as well which is something is normal uh what is not normal is that we can see so many chances [Music] losing strength I don’t know I can only be positive about Jona I have so so so much respect for them last year they they were they were an incredible team to watch they had so many quality players now after the game I can maybe be a bit more honest uh because you don’t say this before the game but they lost a bit of quality uh in my opinion and if you can still play like this that is a big big big compliment for the manager uh that he’s able in every Champions League game to play his own style to make it so difficult for par s difficult for Liverpool difficult for fard uh those were the three games I watched most and all because of they have such a good idea about how they want to bring the ball out from the back so I would um um if if I think but yeah if you give this manager the same quality players as he had last season he will do exactly the same again and top three top five in um in this league but unfortunately for them they yeah and it’s mostly like this they lose a bit of quality still good players they still have good players but not exactly the same quality as they had last season hold on finish last one I know you said he made some good just to build on that he really showed tonight why you know been out for two months he didn’t look like been away no no he definitely didn’t yeah I said out of a bit of a joke that maybe the players wanted to see how fit he really was uh so to give him so much work but of course that was not our plan uh he showed again today why I said so many times that he’s our first goalkeeper that has nothing to do with grief he did so so well uh but uh but Allison is um has been so important for this club for so so many years for his country as well and showed today that he’s probably one of the best in my opinion the best goalkeeper in the world and let’s hope he can continue bring these performances in let’s even hope more that he can stay fit thank you everyone
