teams to be definitely not Gonzaga Connor hope you are a Gonzaga fan I’m guy Franklin but Connor Gonzaga looked anemic at best what do you need to see from them to have a chance against this Indiana team we need whoever is stole gram E’s body and decided to play basketball in it to give it back um Gonzaga Gonzaga survived the Graham EK slump just to have three of Ryan neh hard’s worst offensive possessions of the Season uh and none of them like none of them were two of them were turnovers on on Nolan Hickman charged against Nolan Hickman that were not Hickman’s fault the first one at the end of regulation at half court nard just put Hickman into a near impossible situation the second one was the Hickman turnover into the dunk in overtime where Hickman thought nard was going to continue coming towards half court to take over the offense he kind of zigged back to the corner uh and the ball went straight to a West Virginia Defender for a dunk I all that being said though Gonzaga looked bad defensively against a team that likes to shoot a lot of Threes by allowing them to get a lot of open threes the benefit in this game is that they’re going up against what I who I think is a worst coach and a team that doesn’t like to shoot threes but you still have the same situation in my mind where Miles rice is not the same exact archetype but a similar archetype to Javon small which is the Gonzaga killer archetype so I think it’s going to be one of those games where it’s going to test the medal of both programs but if Indiana loses this is a oh Mike Woodson problem yeah I mean we saw in want to talk about Umar Balo McKenzie and bbak right there are so many different ways even Trey Galloway he’s been with that program for this feels like it’s year 25 and he’s you know still being a good contributor on this team they don’t seem to mesh together and I didn’t even mention Malik renew right McKenzie and bako when he went to college there were some some evalu Talent evaluators who thought oh yeah he’s a four he could even play a stretch five he’s starting at the three You’ve Got Rice and Carlile both sharing the back court neither is fully a one or a two it it just the roster fit feels strange as talented as it is and I think we saw that happen going against a Louisville team that really Louisville didn’t look great against Winthrop Louisville didn’t look great against Tennessee I mean yes it’s a pat Kelce team and today they played Pat Kelce basketball but if you’re you’re Indiana that’s a team that you should beat with the amount of Talent with the amount of nil dollars right that you have and Pat Kel’s in his first year at Louisville rign Smith is great yes you know Chucky heurn was solid at Wisconsin you are more talented than those guys there is there’s no reason for you not to win that other than Mike Woodson has poorly constructed roster again not from a talent perspective but from a fit together perspective and he hasn’t been good on the X’s and O’s now I don’t think that the the answer is call Tom Ken right look there there was some there was some talk about that it’ll the answer is not Tom crean the answer is find someone doing great at a mid- major job and tell him that he’ll do better at Indiana because Indiana is Indiana I mean we’ve seen it with the football program this year you can be a Powerhouse with the amount of dollars that you have with the right coach there’s no reason for Indiana basketball not to be consistently in the top 10 there’s no reason for you to lose by 40 points to Louisville something’s got to give against Gonzaga and I don’t think it will because I think Gonzaga despite the loss to WVU still is probably one of the top five teams in the country yeah I mean I think Indiana looked out class just straight simple looked out class got run off the floor Gonzaga lost a would a could have should have game like Gonzaga had an eight-point lead at the half Gonzaga had a 10-point lead early in the second half Gonzaga had a fivepoint lead with 25 seconds left Gonzaga had a two-point lead with eight seconds left Gonzaga had an opportunity to put the ball in caleff battle’s hands to get a last shot off opportunity at the end of the second half and there was like there was a bit of a okay you brought in aent and cold there was a bad pass off of on a switch the Greg and Hickman didn’t get out to deze in not time to actually contest his shot drains the three nard made a bad pass to Hickman which put him in an impossible situation and rather than have a 10 second violation and a half court offense for West Virginia you’re looking at a runout layup four on-one that was you know Hickman did everything he could to prevent it from going in but it it was still going to be tough to stop that uh but you also had a timeout in your back pocket then you mess up the timeout substitution things with them hard um where they that was ridiculous I didn’t even know that rule existed no and and I think if you knew that or if you had anticipated or even like thought of that rule you hold that timeout you let him make the basket you you pass the ball call timeout yeah like you get the ball near half court call time out you’d have like four three and a half to four seconds on the clock you can bring Hickman or no n hard and run a run a 4 second play or whatever it would probably look better but you also you brought caleff battle in to take those shots it’s just unfortunate he lost it on the way up um but I’m going to take a team that we’ve seen good things from against good competition that lost a would have should have could have game against a team just playing their absolute asses off on defense over a team that looked outclassed and so for this this game as long as a ji is fully healthy and I still have my questions about that because the only reason I think Greg was in the game was because early in that first half against West Virginia aai came up gimpy on his back after a hard foul and then we didn’t really see him play all that much outside of like rebound like the rebounding play at the end of regulation for the rest of the game so I’m wondering if he had a back injury and we just like didn’t really pay attention to that um but as long as they’re playing fully healthy it comes down to can e forie CU if he can you you at least are even on the interior against Indiana and your guards are better than Indiana’s guards but if you can’t your your perimeter attack is better but if if EK continues to be a inefficient player around the rim and you have to go to Huff you have to play Huff 30 some OD plus minutes there’s a chance that like if Balo actually decides to put in effort if renew actually decides to put in effort this Indiana team could still win like I’m not saying because they lost by 40 they’re going to lose to Gonzaga because obviously Gonzaga lost to West Virginia in a close one and Indiana has I think more talented players than West Virginia does what I am saying for Gonzaga is if if the team that showed up against Baylor and even ER Iona State and San Diego State shows up against Indiana you should win that game yeah and I mean we’re talking about effort whenever there’s an effort question I I never want to pick that team to win a game and in in a weird way I think a disappointing year would I honestly help Indiana in the long term uh you know with yes getting Woody out but also just giving him a slap in the mouth um that being said Graham eek is not the guy who we saw at Wyoming two years ago or even the guy we saw at the end of last year yeah I mean that that Graham eek I for for my money on that Wyoming team with Hunter Maldonado and all those guys that made the tournament if he was playing at a Gonzaga then I think he could have had some first team All-American National Player of the Year backing we’re not seeing that gr and we saw that gr at Gonzaga last year you like you said at the end from Kentucky game onwards we saw that gram e if gram e is himself this game won’t be close Gonzaga will win by 20 I think I still think Gonzaga is gonna win I’m not going to take them by 20 but I don’t trust this Indiana team at all and it’s not that I don’t trust the the players themselves I trust I don’t trust the fit I don’t trust the effort and I don’t trust Mike Woodson so my for I’m going to predict the don’t necessarily think that any of the Interior Defenders frighten me like Malik Renu is a good rim protector but he he’s not one of those Defenders that I think frightens me um so I’m gonna say Gonzaga 82 but I do think Indiana gets a little bit going so I’m going to say Gonzaga 82 Indiana 7 4 in this game um until I’m proven otherwise I just don’t know if Gonzaga has what it takes to push that score out given that they don’t have EK firing on all cylinders and there’s still athleticism in this Indiana back court athleticism enough I think to take advantage of the mismatch that you can get on ball screens against a Braden Huff or a Ben Greg or a Dusty Stromer well Dusty Stromer played his tail off I mean he was he was the only Defender that could stop Javon small at the end of that
