hello guys and welcome back we’re getting close now to the halfway point of this NHL season and I wanted to take a look at the last NHL offseason biggest moves and grade them with how they’ve been so far we had a lot happen in this last off season ranging from Big contracts like Stephen stamp Co and big trades like Patrick Lon that have really turned out in interesting ways this year and I wanted to go through and grade every single one of those deals so make sure you watch till the end to see what grades we give across the board if that subscrib and if you’re new for more hockey content just like this all throughout the year presented by bet us now I’m doing my best with this setup today because yesterday my mic stand broke and then as I was going to record this video my light broke as well so I’m using my phone light we’re going to make it work let’s get into the grades before some else breaks now the first deals I wanted to mention today were some of the most interesting moves of the offseason we don’t usually see offer sheets but when we do it is pretty exciting and we saw two this last offseason involving Edmonton and St Louis with broberg and hallway going to the blues now of course both players are different so the compensation ended up differently as brober got sent for a 2025 second and Dylan Holloway got sent for a third round pick now let’s start with a player that got better compensation back for Edmonton and Villa broberg who got a second rounder he’s somebody that has really played well with St Louis so far he did have that injury but when he has played he’s actually put up some pretty good offensive numbers in 22 games two goals 10 assists 12 points had been one of the most impactful St Louis defenseman which I think is a reason a clear sign that they should have gotten younger before the Cam Fowler trade but it is what it is in bro Burg’s case he’s somebody that pretty much went into that Blues defense sees that opportunity immediately and has flown with that and in inton I’m not sure if he would have been playing up to those type of Standards considering he already asked for a trade he was on the way out for sure but in bro brig’s case he’s somebody that was obviously pretty mishandled by Edmonton and that’s not really much of a surprise now we go to Dylan Holloway who is another player like broberg who’s found himself a nice Home in St Louis but I think is a little bit less excusable because in Holloway’s case it feels like he was a guy that was less likely to ask for a trade and I still think could have worked onto that Edmonton for group you can see in 35 games 10 goals 9 assists 19 points he’s been an effective player all throughout that lineup for St Louis versatile and being that swis army knife that he was back in his draft year he’s turned himself into that this season and he’s somebody that already still at just 23 years old these two guys are going to be impactful value valuable guys for St Louis and considering the package a second and a third How likely is it that you’re going to get two players better than Holloway and broberg not likely at least with how they play with St Louis it’s been a home run for them as for the grades on both these deals for both teams I’m going to give Edmonton a D minus not quite an F because I think especially in bro’s case they were kind of forced to do this but I still think a second and a third isn’t the worst thing possible to get back for these guys but in Hall’s case especially I think it was a gross mishandling and I think they could really used them onto that four group but I think for St Louis getting two younger guys is exactly what they needed it hasn’t really turned into much success so far this year but when they have played they have been effective in their roles and I think it’s exactly what St Louis should be trending for anyway so we’re going to give them a straight A definitely the blues getting the advantage here in these two moves now we have a lot more offseason moves to get to but let’s talk about today’s sponsor in bet us which is the place to make mix throughout all the hockey season whether it be on every NHL game on every team every matchup or the Stanley Cup as well the awards there’s so many options with bet us just use code You2 150 and you’ll get an 150% sent of bonus on your first deposit and 125% C bonus on your next deposits after that but of course with 247 payouts 247 customer service that us is the place to be throughout this hockey season now let’s get into the plethora of Boston Bruins moves from this off season starting out with the signings in Elias lolm which was the big one signing him to a massive multier contract at $7.75 million it was a pretty heavy Gamble and so far it’s not really paid off he’s been about average for that Boston four group some that was looked into come into that first line potentially get some chemistry of poock and finally really start getting back to his sane level which is interesting because I think at Lin Holmes best he was with two great Wingers in kachuck and goodro in Calgary and he was able to compliment those type of guys in a goalscoring role but we just have not seen that type of player in a long time and you can see so far in 35 games he has five goals 12 assists 17 points just hasn’t been good enough I’m going to give the lyol contract a d so far it seems to be an absolute bust for the Bruins who are trying to revamp that four group there’s been a lot of problems with that team and I think Glen has been one of the biggest ones but then you go on to Nikita zadorov who also got a pretty massive contract not nearly as much value as lolm got but still $5 million on a pretty big long-term deal in zidor of’s case he’s slightly younger than lolm and I think has been a slightly better fit nothing all that crazy but defensively and of course with the big hits that zedora flies you know the value that he’s out there he’s out there to play like a rockstar out there to make some flashy defensive plays and with the physicality he has it’s something that Boston of course is always going to one on their defense you can see so far in 35 games two goals seven assists nine points about the average production that you’d see out as a door he’s still Nikita zadorov in Boston I think he’s been fine nothing all that revolutionary but I’m going to give him just a straight C at least it looks like he’s a part of that team for the future unlik glin Holm who’s just kind of there but now we go to the big Whopper of a trade that we saw in the offseason the lenus allmark deal this one just had major consequences around the Atlantic division so far and I think it’s a pretty interesting one because at the time at least if what olark was able to provide what he did in Boston it looked like an absolute steal and even though he had a little bit of a slow start he’s been exceptionally good for the sends especially over the last month or so he did get an injury but I think he will be back soon so that will be good for Ottawa you can see in 23 games a 915 save percentage almost matching and especially in the goals against average even better than he was last season which is a huge bonus for for Ottawa that’s exactly what they needed a stable goenda help you throughout this season that would be huge for ottawa’s playoff hopes they’ve been a much more competitive team because ofar and for them it’s an absolutely amazing deal but I think I think what salvages it a little bit for Boston is the fact that yonis Corpus solo has been at least to this point not the worst goalie in the NHL which you can’t really always expect Corpus solo to not be he’s somebody that has had a rough few years since going from Columbus he’s gone from LA to Ottawa and now to Boston you can see in 12 games a 2.42 goals against average a 904 save percentage he’s actually been okay for the Bruins and you know what good for him with Swan signing late and being one of the worst NHL goalies to start out this year here Corpus solo has been pretty valuable for this Bruins team thus far and for that I think it raises it a little bit I still think it’s a great deal for the Bruins but I’m going to give this a straight A for the SS and for the Bruins a C+ not great still but still it’s okay it’s not the worst thing they did now we move on to another pretty big move by the sense from this off season involving Jacob Chan getting sent to the Washington Capitals now this one was interesting because we saw Chan get sent to the caps for Nick Jensen and a third round pick and at least in the face value of felt like a pretty low deal for what chikin could be and in terms of what chikin can be for Washington he’s been extremely valuable for them in 28 games nine goals 21 points so far and playing some of the best two-way hockey he’s ever played and that’s great to see especially since he is still so young at 26 years old and I think has a lot of value to give he’s really helped that caps defense though in a major way and that’s awesome to see but I think what is interesting is ottawa’s side to this because chin likely wasn’t going to last wasn’t going to likely sign there compared to all the other options in free agency so I think for the end especially considering the weird fit that chikan was there it made sense to trade him and I think considering what they got in Nick Jensen he’s worked out really well there honestly one of the more underrated performances so far this year he’s pretty old at 34 years old but you wouldn’t really think it in 34 games he has 13 points which isn’t going to pop off the board or anything but his defensive play the steadiness he has had in his role I think he’s been really impactful for that s’s defense he’s not going to put up the flashy Point totals that Chan will but it seems like Jensen is a better fit for what that s’s defense needed than Chen Chan was and even though Chan I think is the better player sometimes it’s about fit for these teams and in this case I think it was a win-win deal Washington needed the more more cons uh the the presence of Chan offensively that could really help that defense in Jensen’s case though he’s somebody that with the defensive play he could bring was something that Ottawa really craved and so far I think it’s working up for both D cores involved I think washingon probably still gets the best out of this deal so I’m going to give them an straight A but I think in the sense case I’m going to give the Jensen acquisition a B+ I think he’s fitting really well there and for that defense it’s something that they really need him to improve on and in Jensen’s case I think he’s really helped that now we talked about lenus allmark I want to move on to another big goalie trade from the offseason involving Calgary and New Jersey in the big Jacob markstrom deal which was looking pretty disastrous for New Jersey to start out the year but has looked better we saw of course markstrom get delt to the Devils for Kevin ball and a first round pick and it’s interesting because in Mark’s case his start to the season with New Jersey was rough but he’s played a lot better in the last month and you can see in 25 games he has a 2.20 goals against average a 911 save percentage he’s on track to have his best season since 2022 which is exactly what the doctor ordered for New Jersey just like Ottawa they had some pretty big holes throughout that lineup the gooning was the major one that I think they needed to address they did in markstrom and I think he was one of the better Acquisitions throughout that offseason he has really paid dividends though recently and as New Jersey continues to Surge markstrom is a critical part of that now in Cal’s case you could say oh markstrom getting rid of himim it didn’t really wasn’t really the greatest thing in the world but I think considering Calgary’s position it was exactly what they needed to do with Dustin Wolf coming in he was somebody that was ready to take in the Reigns in Calgary and with how he’s shown so far this year he absolutely was he was ready for that starting position in Calgary and he’s run away with it already that was something that I think that Calgary needed to do was get that starting spot open for him and in trading markstrom they do that no I don’t think Kevin Ball has been extraordinary for Calgary but he’s a physical defenseman big boy you know what you’re getting there the first round pick though is huge and I think for Calgary that’s just more insurance for that draft capital I think in this kind of retool Direction they’re going through still with the competitiveness they have it was still the exact type of move they needed to make and in dtin Wolf’s case he’s the starter already so I don’t think for Calgary they’re really missing much out there I think it’s a pretty even trade though I think for New Jersey they get a straight B and I think for Calgary they get a straight B just a solid win on both sides that 2 GM smartly made but now we go to a deal that is looking like one of the biggest fleecing of the off season Ken Hughes is made made a lot of good deals but to me the Jonathan kovich trade might be the worst now I don’t know how well he would have played in Montreal but he has been unbelievable for New Jersey now offensively I don’t think kovich is ever going to put up unreal numbers but in 36 games so far he has 10 points but the efficiency defensively is something that we’ve seen kovich take a big step in New Jersey of course also had holes in their defense they went after not just kovich but Brett peshi as well to hopefully fill that but I would argue kovich has been maybe Montreal’s best defense not Montreal New Jersey’s best defenseman in terms of his role the efficiency he’s played how much we’ve seen a bump in his minutes as well he’s playing harder minutes against better competition yet he’s still coming out extraordinarily well I think kevich in terms of honestly all of the Acquisitions maybe is top five in terms of fit with his new team he has been so good for New Jersey and we only saw what a 2026 fourth round pick going back to Montreal at the time I don’t think that was too far off what kov Sage’s value was out there but how he’s playing as a 6’5 defenseman now I think if kova Sage were to be traded today I think you’d probably be asking a first round pick and I don’t even think I’m exaggerating with that he’s just been playing so so good in terms of the trade grades I get that Montreal was kind of in a gome win situation they were trying to get rid of as much defenseman as they can with the Log Jam there but especially with how Montreal traded for Alexander Kier another right shot to come on of that defense just keeping kovich might have been the answer I’m going to give them a D minus but for for New Jersey is an A+ absolutely one of their most underrated editions and offseason they had a lot of underrated ones now we move on to another landmark deal from the offseason going on to another Montreal Canadians move in the Patrick l trade and sure the kovich deal didn’t really work out for them but the Patrick line deal absolutely has man it’s kind of wild to look back on that trade because of course Columbus traded for Jordan Harris but they trade a second round pick and lighted to Montreal just to get rid of that contract and for Columbus we absolutely understand why he was a fit there he wanted a deal and it makes sense that you would have to get rid of something to get rid of that full contract at the time it was looking pretty rough but what Patrick l has been for Montreal when healthy has been spectacular it’s still 26 years old which is crazy to think about you can see the production so far this year in nine games eight goals nine points he already among the league leaders in Power Play Goals he has been absolutely insane in that department and sure is the defensive game not there yeah but what Montreal is doing I think with Patrick l is getting him back to his original game I think with Columbus trying to try him out at Center trying to get him more of into a defensive guy is just not who he was Patrick l at the end of the day is a sniper he is a power play a quarterback he is somebody that can do so much for you in an offensive role and Montreal isn’t afraid to put him in that position they’re willing to insulate him with other defensive players or try to insulate him with other guys that can make up for the defensive lapses in his in his in his play but when he is at his best when he is goals scoring goals that’s what you want to see L doing that is when he I think is at his most valuable and Montreal I think has realized that pretty well so far in Jordan Harris’s case too he’s somebody that Montreal pretty smartly got rid of he’s somebody that does have some good smarts here and there but has just not been a product productive player for Columbus and not even an everyday player either only playing 22 games getting one assist for one point so far a pretty easy guy to get rid of and Montreal smartly did they get a second round pick for line and with how well he’s done I think it’s been a slam dunk I’m going to give Montreal and A+ but for Columbus getting rid of that cap I think it was pretty necessary for them so I’m just going to give them a straight C now one of the uses of that cap space for Columbus was getting a player like Shawn Monahan and this is absolutely one of the offseason moves that I was the most wrong about I wasn’t really a big fan of the contract in terms of the fit I thought it could have been okay at the start but he has been amazing for Columbus and of course with the passing of Johnny goodro I think exactly what that Blue Jackets lock room has needed you can see in three to four games he’s slowed down a little bit recently but still 11 goals 17 assists 28 points he’s been absolutely incredible for them and exactly the first line center with the Boon generate injury that Columbus desperately needed to start things out they had a great start to the season they quieted down a little bit and gone back to expectations a little bit more but still Monahan has been able to do the transform that locker room to be there in the biggest moments for that franchise it’s an A+ worth that deal already I don’t even care now going on to another veteran that signed with a rebuilding team that I think is had some pretty great effects it’s been Ted to fley that has has been a major reason why the sharks have had a resurge this year now they’re still not a top 10 team or any or anything but they are competitive in almost every single game and I think T foi is a big reason why now of course having the in players around celebrini to insulate him into the NHL I think has been a really big thing and a critical piece of San Jose’s success so far Toole has been a big part of that and he’s somebody that in 36 games 13 goals nine assists 22 points hasn’t had the best production in the world but he’s somebody that has really taken the Reigns in leadership for that team already for San Jose he’s somebody that I think has been critical in that offensive role for that I think he’s another player like Monahan and I forgot to give that the A+ is is there for Monahan I think for tii he’s also the A+ level I think he in terms of the leadership value has done a lot for San Jose that they didn’t have before then we go on to the major trade that San Jose made never there’s a few like the y a scare off that one’s a little bit too early to call I would say considering it’s mostly prospects involved but in terms of actual NHL players You could argue that the most imp impactful move for San Jose this year has been acquiring Jake Walman it’s kind of ridiculous that trade actually happened in the first place where Detroit paid a pick and wman for San Jose to take him on considering his capit wasn’t even that high in the first place he was making 3.4 million and I’ll be the first one to say that wman last year wasn’t the greatest thing in the world defensively there were some major rough moments but goal scoring wise 12 goals in 63 games still highly productive in the offensive zone and you could see what he’s been able to do with San Jose this year in 31 games five goals 20 assists 25 points he’s been critical to that San Jose defense still defensively has his rough moments here and there but the confidence he’s been able to provide for San Jose the utility offensively he has been brilliant and I can’t help but think for that Detroit defense who is in a rough spot right now who end up going after gson for their offensive D could have really used a Walman they could have used a Shane gos despare or really anybody that they let go on that defense I don’t really understand what Detroit’s doing with that defense in general and training wman was another big issue with that now I’m going to give for the San Jose side and a I think it was absolutely phenomenal there for Detroit I think it’s the first F of the video just an un truly an just insane trait from day one and it’s proved to be an insane trait even more so than I thought and Detroit is not done with the ass I wanted to talk about the Vladimir tereno contract because this one really hurts me somebody that I love I’ve Loved for a long time tereno to me has been one of my favorite players growing up he’s somebody that this year has just had a rough turn of things with trait in 32 games four goals eight assists 12 points zero points over his last five he just doesn’t look like he’s having fun there in a trait and on paper it seemed like a pretty solid addition for that middle six to boost some of that depth to boost some of that goal scoring but teraso has just not been a fit whether that be on the power play or just in any situation tereno has just not been a good player a good fit really anything for Detroit and considering how much stock they put in him to really raise that offense that just has not come to be I think it’s another F honestly for Detroit traits especially in teras singo’s case I think he’s somebody that looking for that next Stanley Cup likely not going to get that in Detroit anytime soon then we go on to another pretty major tra from the offseason that’s having pretty major ramifications a one for one between the LA Kings and the Washington Capitals dubo for keer which is turn to be a pretty interesting one especially for the Washington Capitals who are criticized a lot for bringing on Dub’s full contract at $8.5 million so far I think it’s actually been pretty good it seems like every single capitals move from this offseason just in general recently has worked out for them so far this year dubis is no exception you see in 33 games obviously the goal scoring isn’t going to be the main thing with him but in in 32 games he has five goals 20 assists 25 points especially recently he’s been a highly productive player for the caps on the power play and just in all situations he’s really starting to find his game and I think that is a great thing for Dubois it’s good that he’s finally found a home with all the controversy we’ve seen just in his entire NHL career but then you also have the player he was traded for in Darcy keer where the king saved some cap there but gold ining wise he actually hasn’t been too bad for the Kings so far in 16 games at 2.40 goals against average a 911 save percentage he hasn’t been incredible and especially in overtime five overtime losses already hasn’t been incredible in that overtime segment but in terms of the actual play there I really wasn’t KN wasn’t really expecting much considering the injury history he is age at 34 years old but he seems to have gone back to his solid time with the LA Kings I mean you can see a 932 St percentage back when he played there in 19 games in 2018 he’s somebody though that has been a big part of that Golding talent for the Kings and has worked out pretty well so I think this is another pretty good win-win trade for both sides I’m going to give for Washington and a minus and for the Kings a straight B now we’re going to go through a lot of the major contracts that were signed this offseason in consecutive order let’s start out with the national predators who have uh not been good to start out this season and a lot of it I think is because of the opportunity to get a lot of these name brand players that were of course very exciting to bring on I was overwhelmed by the fact they got Sten stos Marg SOA to a team already that had some pretty great moments throughout the last season but I think we were all kind of swept with the players themselves and not how they would actually fit on the team and I think the forward editions especially in Stam Co and March or so are a great example of how Synergy can I think play a part in a team’s performance a lot these are two guys especially in stamp Coast Gates who are goal scorers they are guys that are Shooters and I think for Nashville they already have a lot of those type of players I think they needed more of a play driving presence and frankly a younger presence that Steven Stam coast and maroso aren’t able to provide you can see so far they’ve been okay offensively Stam Coast 19 points in 34 games maro’s case a little bit better 21 points in 34 games but the overall game just has not been there and they’ve been a huge liability defensively you also got Brady Shay 7 million s years that has just looked like an absolute disaster as well he’s been okay but when you’re playing paying him that amount of money especially when you’re bringing him on to be a a big part of that defense you’re looking for more than just 11 points to 3 games and lackluster defensive play he’s pretty much been the worst version of himself he’s gotten a little bit better lately but that’s not really saying too much in Nashville’s case they really needed big things out of these Acquisitions and I would say in a large part they’ve kind of ruined a lot of the Synergy that Nashville previously had I think Nashville is a team that already was trending in an older Direction but they just got even older and in today’s game where speed matters so much Pace mans so much I think Nashville took a pretty big misstep and in a lot of cases I think is having to rethink their identity as a team in terms of the grades I think Stam Coos is is a D minus Mar I think is have been a little bit better I’m going to give him a D+ in Brady Shay’s case I’m going to give him an F that contract is just looking like an absolute Albatross now let’s go on to another team in the west that made some pretty major moves in the Seattle Kraken getting both Brandon Montour and Chandler Stevenson now I was a pretty big critic of these contracts when they were signed I thought they would be okay to start out for the Kraken they would alleviate a role I think Seattle needed some more offensive ability especially monor’s case on the defense he was something that with Vince dun could really work on the power play and in Stevenson’s case I think they could have used some more speed Stevenson brings that in Spades but I think in terms of what the players are and the contracts they signed I still don’t know if it’s all that great especially when those contracts are going to be in the second half of their deals in montour’s case though I think he’s been pretty soloft for the Kraken eight goals 21 points for in 35 games Stevenson of course does what he does he’s a complete defensive liability but he scores points here and there he brings speed the playmaking is always going to be consistent you know where you’re getting out of Chandler Stevenson is he worth the long-term deal I still don’t think so especially since the Kraken really haven’t changed that much offensively since he’s been there but I think they’ve been still a little bit better than I expected so all in all I’m going to give Brandon Montour a C+ and Stevenson a straight C now another player that’s been a great fit has been Jake gensel it’s not really too much of a surprise that he’s lighting things up with Tampa Bay but he’s somebody that has been a pivot piece of that war group in 31 games 18 goals 16 assists 34 points a lot of people saying why did the Pittsburgh Penguins Get rid of him I kind of agree with that especially if they’re trying to contend but in gel’s case it seemed like he wanted to leave Pittsburgh eventually and just go on to a team that have better options for him for the future and in t Bay’s case with players like COV and points and all the offense they have there in that top end Gil fits in perfectly with the finishing ability with the speed and just some of the quickness that he has around the ice he’s been a good fit though for T Bay and a really fun one to watch and I think that’s awesome to see gensel always deserves a lot of success for just how underrated he is and even though he’s three years old which kind of makes me feel old he’s been awesome for Tampa Bay and for that cap at 9 million exactly is advertised now the last move I want to talk about today is another Tampa Bay move though this time on the trade side that kind of came out of nowhere and that’s the Mel cirach Chev deal with Utah one that was really surprising in a lot of ways we saw cirach Chev go to Utah in exchange for Giannis Moser we also saw Connor geeki we saw a first round pick and a seventh round pick as well going back to Tampa Bay this one was a massive one and it’s been really interesting to look back on because I think in Mel cev’s case he’s been excellent for Utah in more of an offensive role and he’s somebody that considering his weird performances over the last couple of Seasons going from great production 64 points in 79 games to last year where the defensive play especially took a major step back I feel like there were at points where you could have maybe foresaw a trade happening but still the fact that it did happen was a little bit surprising he has been great though for Utah eight go 26 points in 33 games exactly what they needed on that defense when he has been healthy but you also got and go and see what tam bay got in this deal and jannis Moser is somebody that has been extraordinary for Tampa Bay this year and honestly he has been somebody that has been one of the bigger surprises this year defensively and just how consistent he has been he is injured now which does suck but when he was playing for the Tampa defense he was a critical part of it kind of reminds me a little bit of what we talked about earlier in the cherin and Jensen deal where the team the team might not necessarily get the better defense out of it but it might be a better fit for their defense in moser’s case I think you could make the case for that but you also got Conor geeki who was a little bit of a surprise to instantly step into the NHL he’s playing a role on the line with Shelli and Hegel and kind of in a chemistry role where he’s insulated with some really good players there he’s been solid in that position 10 points in 31 games with the chemistry he’s been able to do provide for them the all-around effort he’s been able to to provide for them too to get them pucks and to make their lives easier has been really awesome to see at just 20 years old and you also got the pigs as well the T Bay got back and and honestly considering everything I think they did pretty well here I think for Tamp Bay they get a straight A and for Utah just a little bit less at an A minus but still cir Chev has been pretty great for them but that’s is my review of all the offseason trades we saw and how they performed up to this point so if you guys did enjoy make sure H that like button
