it’s time for the hard truth Indiana football postgame show brought to you by hard truth Distilling [Music] Company now here’s coach Shannon Biff and Jim Coyle [Music] hello everybody Welcome in the Indiana football postgame show brought to you by the hard truth to stilling company is uh CH Co and Coach Shannon Griffith coming to you from here in South Bend Indiana at Dame Stadium the pressers still going on as you can hear overhead a lot of pressers tonight coach STI uh both coordinators for Indiana the the players are was were just now starting the pressers and I’m like all right I can’t wait anymore I’ve got to get back upstairs and had to come back up here because we have no field access during the cfp but it’s a good thing because I promise you my ass was not going to be down there on that field it is cold uh ice cold but uh kind of like Indiana’s offense was tonight but I appreciate you being with us uh no better when where and how you’re listening great to have you guys as always uh unfortunately this is the last uh postgame show we’ll have on the season as Indiana loses here tonight in South Bend to the Fighting Irish and they to put it in a nutshell Indiana just got beat coach they got beat in uh pretty much every aspect of the game yeah the first half really uh really hurt them on uh play of the game for me was they get the pick they get the big play to Sarat they come right back in the Red Zone about 15 yard line call another pass play and Curtis throws in a double coverage and he end up throwing a pick that the ball was at the two yd line in the next play Love Goes 98 yards for a touchdown that in itself was like a 14-point turnaround and that kind of really started the downhill Trend in that first half for Indiana because the offense never really got back on track and uh you’ve obviously been a part you know not Dame defense is pretty stout in what they do and how they do it and Indiana just could not really get things going like we have seen them all year some of it was hit play calling in my opinion uh in the first half I agree with you it was questionable and in the beginning I they script their first 15 points is that right mostly yeah what is the purpose of that well I think it’s what you’re trying to get yourself in a rhythm as much as as you can um sometimes it works like a charm and then there are times where it you know it’s ping teeth you know it’s whatever’s going on got like a third and 17 and just running off tackle is not third down is not uh not Optimum thing to uh to have run but uh that’s not what cost Indiana the game tonight they they were just beat uh the defensive line by Notre Dame a lot of talk this week it was going to come down to their defensive line Indiana’s offensive line and vice versa right well their defensive line was just too fast for Indiana they they weren’t they didn’t they weren’t uh huge like say Ohio State and those guys they were faster and they were just beating him uh by speed R and RoR had time to throw many times tonight and just missed a lot of early throws started one for six uh you know early at one point early in the game both quarterbacks were one for like eight yeah with two interceptions yeah it it was one it was one of those things that uh when love hit that big touchdown run it was not some great schematic scheme team that Notre Dame ran it was the Run fits and the improper Gap control by Indiana’s defense that made some you know blunders tonight that we haven’t seen especially up front with their fits and it cost them and when you make those type of mistakes against a running back like love who’s got the ability to pound you and break tackles and then also the speed to break away from you uh he’ll make you pay and tonight there were times where he made in uh Indiana pay for that uh mistake on defense and I’ll go the lights while we’re sitting here man that’s wild just sit here in a a darkened um Notre Dame Stadium that’s out in front of us uh with the golden dome across the way it’s uh kind of eerie here but uh yeah and now the lights are back on they they they heard you I’m telling you God said let there be light I guess um but yeah and the thing about um Riley it’s lonard yeah I was going to say have those backwards um not known for his passing skills but he really hurt Indiana tonight with his passing not because he was going deep not because he was hitting 30 40 yard passes he was hitting five 10 yard dinks he was taking what Indiana gave him right and it hurt Indiana because he connected on a lot of those yeah and then that Williams kid BR broke some tackles when they did the dumps you know checking down to the running back and then you add to the fact that he had some escapability when Indiana had some pressure on him and he was able to break contain and again you cannot let that kid outside of you uh because when he’s out on this out on the perimeter he can run the football and runs effectively and uh you know that’s one thing with Notre Dame today they never really get Notre Dame off schedule enough uh to really Force Notre Dame into into situations where they are uncomfortable but vice versa Notre Dame put Indiana behind schedule quite frequently in that first half and what end up happening was then you get these 5050 balls that’s a list that’s just stuff I kept writing down throughout the game and I’m like oh my god when I got done and looked at two pages full of stuff and I’m like holy crap right uh it hadn’t been like that but well this is my note I I do a note tab uh tablet there you go oh yeah have all the plays in the game we don’t have time to go through all that one tonight thank God we’ll have a see instead of having postgame shows going forward we’re gonna have to have a something come to Jesus moment well no we’ll continue uh we’ll continue with something because the great thing about this and as you can see people commenting enjoying the hell of a season that Indiana had this is not a flash of thean this is something that’s going to continue it has staying power it’s going to get better actually going to get better players they’re going to get guys that are faster that that they didn’t have tonight um they’re going to get guys that are stronger not and nothing against the guys they have they played their ass off but at the end of the day Notre Dame had better players has better players and it showed Michigan not Ohio State they just have better recruits um but that’s coming uh there’s no doubt about that that’s coming and uh we look forward to that but you know again hell of a season oh wow Indiana ends up in the college football playoffs the first one and uh losing to a really good Notre Dame team is nothing to be ashamed about and and they can hold their head high they they didn’t get blown out um well they battled back they battled they never stopped and uh but yeah I I have a list I’ve got a long list and it starts out simply saying Notre Dame was just better yeah and they were they were better in every facet they were better in their they were better in their scheming um their defensive scheme they did not try to overdo themselves they didn’t do anything crazy they didn’t uh they didn’t Blitz as much as Ohio State I didn’t think um but they almost didn’t have to they were so quick and they were causing so much disruption for Curtis roor even but even like I said even when he had time to throw he was missing those throws early uh right Indiana was doing okay running the ball but nothing of substance not not of subsistance nature they couldn’t really uh get off the snide there I I the one thing that that I was disappointed in in the overall game plan tonight was the lack of running some Crossing routes or shallow crosses to really cross up the manto man and try to get normal picks and things of that magnitude almost what US USC did against Notre Dame because that’s the film that they had to study uh going into this game but everything seemed to be to the outside and but you know hey like you said uh coach cetti knows now that he’s been through a full year with this ball club and in the Big 10 and now in the college football playoffs he’s seen Ohio State he’s seen Michigan and he’s seen Notre Dame and what they have and now he realizes look this for to elevate us to be on that level we’re going to have to elevate our own talent and recruiting and hopefully some of the doors will open with some of those kids as well as the portal um but I do think he’ll have his blueprint like we talk about all the time and he’ll work it and adjust it and try to go and find those type of kids and players that they’re not going to need to have to be able to compete at the level of these type of teams in college football playoffs we knew it was going to be tough coming in here anyway I mean going on the road playing Notre Dame in Notre Dame stadium that was a tall task to start with but but I legitimately thought that they had a chance to win this game oh yeah I don’t think but I’ve gotta be honest with you they never really they didn’t get blown out but they just didn’t once the game got going and Notre Dame got up those two scores right it was like Ah that’s what they started they started it’s like they were in mud right they just could not gain traction uh and and you just kind of saw what was coming but again they were never out of it it just like you know if they score here they’re only down 10 you know it’s like that way for a long time they just could not manage it but they hung in there till the end yeah uh and thanks for all the kind words uh from everyone we appreciate you guys very very very much appreciate you being here with us uh all the time so uh we’re grateful for that we look forward to it we’re grateful to be able ble to do it uh very happy to be able to do it so thank you guys uh most importantly uh let’s see someone absolutely Terry appreciate you uh let’s see when Jim speaks people no nobody listen nobody listens that I assure you uh Notre Dame was just bigger and stronger that’s a fact man uh well it wasn’t bigger they it wasn’t bigger uh like I said they their defensive line is not big they’re fast they’re athletic they they’re a different they are built differently they’re linebackers or or oversized safeties um and that’s just and they play an aggressive man-to-man defense on the outside even though those two guys were a sophomore and a freshman they’re playing at an elite level that you know Indiana hit some towards late in the ball game but you know they did a heck of a job in their coverage scheme in that first half that really just kind of shut it down I mean sarod had one catch I think in the first half and that was it and that was the big play down on the 5050 ball Bob says how many teams with winning records at Indiana beat well however many that were on their schedule but uh is it Indiana’s fault that the reigning National Champion did not have the year that people expected that the reigning National runner up didn’t have the year they expected I mean that a Nebraska team that was 5 and one and ranked uh at that time you you can’t control that stuff so there’s not that this was not a good team there are I still Indiana is is as good or better than a lot of teams they’re just not better than Notre Dame they’re not better than Ohio State but those are two the elite teams in the country and in this in this era of parody uh being an elite team is something and it separates you so I don’t Bob I don’t agree with you and as far as the SEC I I really the SEC can just go jump in a lake dude uh Alabama lost to Oklahoma by scoring three points an Oklahoma team that had a losing record so I I I don’t have any sympathy for the SEC and and then it’s as it’s as if the SEC just wants it to be the SEC Invitational uh and I’m like why don’t they just have their own tournament yeah and just let it be that and you know there’ll be an SEC champion and a rest of the world champion and that should make the uh the SEC folks happy but uh who knows um oh strength the schedule well you know what let’s see I think Texas and Indiana were very close in that I I think notra Dame’s strength of schedule is six spots different than Indiana yeah so again not it Indiana was 67th and I think Notre Dame was like 58 57 something like that they lost two games to two teams that are in the college football playoffs so yeah that’s not an argument I’m mean gonna deal with tonight but uh appreciate you being on with us anyway though uh tro says along the line of what coach uh I didn’t hit it what coach Griff was saying I think we needed better offensive strategy considering the second half of um OSU in two weeks to game plan well in those games I’m not sure it was strategy it was not failure to make adjustments this game I do agree that uh I don’t know what the strategy exactly was I don’t know that they were prepared for the quickness of Notre Dame uh their defensive line just like in Ohio State apparently they were not prepared for the noise which is a little surprising and it was a big stage and I started to get that feeling again when James Evans and not to put it on him the punter but he couldn’t punt the ball to save his life tonight I mean he couldn’t kick it in the lake from the from the beach uh I was like what is going on I don’t know if it was the cold weather uh but he had a couple of really bad Shanks yeah he had he he struggled there in the first half mightily um he really didn’t start kicking it really well until about the second half you know part of the reason tonight you can look at it from the standpoint part of it yeah may have been Indiana’s schematically what they were trying to do maybe didn’t pan out the way they had envisioned it but the other thing is and I think you’ve alluded to this you also got to give Al goldon and that defense a lot of credit too because you know they are very disruptive in what they do and um when you have man-to-man coverage and you’re trying to throw the ball to the outside and you get caught in the 5050 ball game um you know it you’re not gonna have a high percentage of completions doing that and I think that’s Notre Dame made Indiana fall right into what um Notre Dame wanted in other respects Notre Dame enforced their will on Indiana on both sides of the ball tonight well there’s no question and there’s also no question they got out coached in some respect backs and that’s easy and that’s not a slight to to Indiana Notre Dame has Al Goden as their defensive coordinator he’s a former head coach uh as a matter of fact I learned something tonight he scored the last touchdown by an opposing player before in the last game that was on not on NBC I think oh je he played for Penn State scored a touchdown and Penn State would have end up winning that game but uh just a some information that means nothing well that and I thought coach Den Brock their offensive coordinator called a really good ball game as well tonight and played complimentary football and at Notre Dame did both offense and defense and Indiana had done that for the better part of the Year Notre Dame disrupt at that tonight and like I said they really imposed their will on Indiana and it’s just one of those things that some of it’s a talent some of it’s not you know preparation and some of it was kids making mistakes and that’s going to happen yeah and and there weren’t a ton of mistakes tonight but there were some the uh the personal foul that was a bad personal foul man yep that really hurt too tackling tonight I thought was at times glaring in the in the sense that um they weren’t tackling as well as they had been part of that was because of being out out AED especially in space you know where they thought they had love for a five yard loss and he broke through a couple arm tackles and next thing you know he turns the five yard loss into an eight- yard game oh Bob I I sure wish the big the SEC luck with all oh yeah they only have three teams in um so don’t know what to say Bob SEC didn’t have it this year brother all they had to do was win games not lose to Vanderbilt not lose to Oklahoma not lose to Kentucky at home uh I could go through the list but uh it’s not relevant it doesn’t matter yeah play nine conference games instead of eight and get rid of the Mercers and all of them in the middle of the season and win the games you’re supposed to if you’re G to be an elite team uh in the SEC um unfortunately Alabama peed down their leg another great Point Brad makes IND Indiana’s tackling was horrible tonight but again a lot of that had to do with doter Dame speed I think that every tackler was a millisecond behind they were they were just rolling every there were several times that they handed the ball off and watch I’m just watching I stared at the whole game through by binoculars and they were just really getting downhill I mean they they’re just boy they were just going downhill with the from from the running the ball yeah and love is a very powerful running back that can you know pound it up in there and drag you for three or four yards and you know all of a sudden a three yard gain is an eight- yard gain and then he’s got the ability to take it to the house and that kid is going to make a lot of money in the NFL and he’s only a sophomore so it’ll be interesting to see if he declares after this year’s over to go to the NFL he’s 6 foot 210 pounds and he is an impressive kid and price as well I mean they like you said I think a lot of the tackling was being out AED in space and that you know at times showed today uh wo who says if Indiana had a uh he believes if Indiana had a more athletic quarterback who could run the ball it could have offset does pass rush it could have somewhat I don’t know how much difference it would have made but uh there’s definitely a difference because Riley lonard was just a pain in the ass yeah Indiana got to him several times but they couldn’t get him and he would escape and boom there he goes and whether he just got a yard or something or actually he would find that’s where a lot of the times he would find somebody to dump the ball off to uh and he ate Indiana alive with that but he was able to keep the plays alive Curtis took a a couple of sacks that I’m like dude get rid of the ball MH um and so he just I I don’t know his he does have a lack of Mobility but uh he I mean he had a hell of a year so I’m not going to to crack on him but he was not known to be a runner I mean he’s had that injury so that that’s kind of over for him you you kind of knew what you had in him and that’s that’s what it has been and it had worked uh and it will work as long as you could protect him but that wasn’t the case again tonight and Indiana paid the price and uh but that’s something that Kirk cetti will look to when he’s rebuilding this team now although he did talk about the portal now they have they’ve kind of ignored I don’t want to say ignored the portal but they had no visits set up because they wanted all focused he wanted all focus on this game absolutely and but unfortunately a lot of these guys are going to have already made their decisions or in the process of making their decision so Indiana’s going to be behind there but they uh they will have a a a good indication of what they need really to upgrade uh they’ve got to they’ve got to upgrade the offensive line without question they’ve got they’ll bring in another quarterback without question don’t know who that’s going to be but it will be someone that I think is a a true dual threat quarterback well you got the kid from Penn State that is supposedly gonna visit Indiana and we don’t know what’s GNA Tri yeah and we don’t not know what’s going to happen to uh Fernando Fernando Mendoza so there are some kids out there that they will have an opportunity to get just like they’ve gotten some D linan already committed to them and running back committed to them and so they’ll they’ll they’ll find their their way through the portal and navigate it here between now and it before it closes here in a in a week or two but um yeah I mean they’re going to have to replace them kids I mean they’re going to lose quite a few because of what he brought from JMU and some of the guys that came here like Ellison and uh some other guys that uh you know were here for one year and uh they’re gonna have to replace them now uh can they get that accomplished yeah I think they can between now and the end of spring practice that leads into that spring portal season too absolutely uh let’s see Michael says Indiana had a great year here but they don’t have the talent like these other teams do yet you could see of course that’s exactly but you’re also talking about a team that was three and nine and one and eight last year people so they uh did a pretty damn good job of flipping that roster to get to to the point of being able toh go 11 and two on the season double digit wins first time ever so it’s it’s uphill I mean it’s downhill from here for them the recruiting will improve we just you just heard some of the guys that we’re talking about that that will be visiting Indiana and looking at Indiana and people will now come there instead of having to be you know pulled and pride and no it’s it’s going to be a lot easier they want to play in that offense they want to play in that defense they want to be a part of making something better and you can see that it’s doable it’s viable this is a blueprint for a lot of other teams and programs to follow as well that hey we’d like to have some of that well yeah I mean it’s it’s a situation where um cetti brought in the right people in the right position and they brought in some of the kids that he had been with him at James Madison to have the the mindset to teach the culture and what is expected and hey he said a Hari bar you know coming out of the gate winning 11 football games uh in the you know throughout the Big 10 season um and you know finished uh what was it third tied for second with pen State I guess overall um I mean that’s a hell of a year in any notebook but again U not in Bob’s well yeah but here’s the thing that’s happened with everything that re regarding to scheduling and stuff we are now in the mega conference era you’ve got 18 teams you’re not going to be able to play all these teams and you’re going to have the difference of Shifting the schedules just like next year’s schedule is going to be completely different because they’re going to pick up some tank games that they didn’t Oregon and Penn State and they’ll drop uh Ohio State Ohio State in Michigan so uh I mean it’s just it’s just the way it is and and Oregon very possibly playing in the national championship uh game this year if that happens it’ll be the second year in a row that Indiana will play the defending well if they win the defending national champion so but yet people want to bang on their schedule I’m like dude what do you want him to do look the the thing of it is is that uh everything’s subjectivity um Beauty’s in the eye of the beholder uh you’re not g to make a case one way or the other as it pertains to uh this game or that game or who’s better who’s not I’ll say this right now watching Notre deame and watching Ohio State I don’t think there’s any question in my opinion that Ohio State’s a better team than Notre damee now that doesn’t mean they’re gonna win at all but you gotta play the game and you gotta play it well no what Notre Dame is doing right now is they’re playing a complete game with their offense and defense and the complimentary football that it takes to win games and that’s what they did here tonight yeah that uh that 98 yard run by love man that was it was Absol well not only was the Run itself and the score you just go backwards Indiana is picks the ball off they they force a turnover and and they’re in great field position they move the ball they get down near the goal line and throw their own pick yeah and then one play and he is gone for 98 yards on a simple off left tackle run and down the sideline he goes and he could not be caught and that was kind of that was a lot of air out of the sails well it’s like I said it was a 14-point turnaround that’s that’s tweet I sent out that’s a that’s a hard 14-point turnaround for or uh yeah whatever have when you have that happen to you you dig your hole for yourself now you’re trying to battle back into it instead of having a lead in a ball game like this and uh hey you know Notre Dame made them pay for the mistakes they made made it Curtis threw into double coverage lend up to an interception we have improper Gap control and run fits by the defense def that leads to the love 98 yard touchdown oh James it’s not about just being more athletic they just need to be better I mean I’m not being negative about them it just it’s just a fact if you’re going to compete at the upper echelon the elite level you’re going to need Elite athletes in every group whe on the offensive line on the defensive line you’re going to have to have those upper level guys you don’t have to have them all because there are just some players that become great players we’ve seen that many times uh Mikel CRA former walkon yeah and he is a tremendous great player but uh you still you have to have that Talent uh there’s there’s no question about that and it’ll come so um you know this is a great building block right I mean this is exactly what this is look at the success they had this year if you think that’s gone unnoticed you’d be nuts because you can’t turn well you you will be able to probably starting tomorrow finally you’ll be able to turn on the TV and not see Kurt scetti but up until now you’ve not been able to turn on a a sports program or or get on the internet without seeing Kurt cetti um I did find it hilarious I uh I saw the clip uh from college game day in uh which he was on and uh he was I I think complimenting he was you know using all the phraseology that he uses uh fast physical rela this that and the other thing higher standards uh played to the standard and he’s learn basically he said he learned all that from uh Sab from Nick Sabin he goes I’ll tell you one thing he didn’t learn from me all that damn you’ve been talking this year and I was like uh that was pretty damn funny yeah U so but yeah uh looking forward to that I wonder if he’ll it’ll curb his talking a little bit because um they did lose the two biggest games that they played this year um and they weren’t really clo they weren’t close to winning either of them uh so it that’s uh definite something that uh you have to acknowledge and uh that he’ll have to acknowledge and which he kind of did you know he didn’t when he came in the press conference he was very jovial and saidan a lot of hurt guys in there because their dad got his ass kicked tonight yeah uh so you know he acknowledges it in that form but you know his bravado stuff it’s half of it stick yeah people it half of it is stick I’m telling you and the other half is just having confidence in yourself having confidence in your team and wanting that to rub off onto them they they have to have that same confidence uh so sometimes it’s just the matter like he said coming into this program that he needed to try to stoke the fires a little bit and change the mindset was no fire yeah that we’re that that we’re going to win and then he was able to do that that created the momentum that he was needed and yeah I don’t think you’re gonna see him be as um boisterous moving forward in what he says or how he says it but um yeah you know just like anything in life sometimes you get knocked down a little bit and you have to brush yourself off and get up and go go on to the next thing and that’s what Indiana will have to do they’ll have to uh heal their wounds get back up on the saddle and and move forward and and try to build something that can come back next year and live to the standard that this team set this year of a winning mindset and and doing that uh as a group as a team and I think that’s something that Kurt cetti brings to the table when he talks about how he runs his program absolutely and uh it’ll be I next year I I think is going to be pretty successful year I’ve looked at the schedule and I’m thinking all right will they be better next year I don’t know it’s going to depend on who they bring in a quarterback uh but they have a lot of good pieces that are staying you know Eliza Sarat uh will still be here they’ve got already some some good pieces coming in at running back and whatnot but uh it’s it’s a lot easier to build onto an existing uh building than it is to start from scratch and go from ground up yeah and hey we we’ve got Tav Jackson that’s in the wings and we all know what Tav Jackson brings to the table as an athletic quarterback that can really throw the football and we’ll find out in in the competition that he’ll be in uh from the January first all the way up through fall camp but uh he could step in and have waited his time waited his turn and he may come in and you know take off in an offense that they can shape a rounding uh Sheila nope uh Indiana will not have Curtis Rook next year his eligibility has expired as of this night uh he is done in the Collegiate game they have three quarterbacks on the roster right now and Tav Jackson Tyler cherry and Alberto Mendoza but they will pick up one out of the portal without question uh and you mentioned the uh the kid uh Penn State uh Privia Privia uh what the hell is his first name uh shoot I can’t too tired that I can’t think of it right but uh yeah they’re gonna have who who doesn’t want to come play in that offense the excitement that you see uh they’re a good team they’re going to be a good team again next year it’s not it’s not like they have to rebuild they just have to reload they a difference uh rebuilding is is that’s what Kurt cetti did this year and he’s already harded a quarterback coach that’s coming from the NFL that’s gonna bring in you know a philosophical approach that he has and that in and of itself is going to draw that’s that’s honey right that’s gonna draw a lot of flies yeah and so meshing him with Coach Shanahan and the rest of the group and Bob you know bobad that did a phenomenal job with this offensive line and you look at how they were a year ago and how they played all the way through up to the end of last year and then end of this year just the phenomenal job that he did with an offensive line that he kind of pcem together um yeah I mean the kid that they got that’s coming in is gonna bring in that mentality of NFL experience and add to uh what Indiana’s doing uh don’t worry and if if Indiana’s 11 And1 again next year I assure you they will be back in the cfp because that means they will have either beaten Penn State or Oregon so uh that will take care of that right there and you don’t know who else is going to be good next year oh yeah that’s the thing now in college football you never know who can rise up now some teams are getting pounded Maryland is going to lose a lot they’re quarterbacks in the portal they’ve already lost a running back to Indiana boy that uh now that’s when you’re in trouble when when you’re losing your guys like that you’re you’re not trending Indiana is trending so they’re getting those guys and you’ve seen one guy ENT the portal that’s that is amazing to me plus we got EJ Williams out of the portal which I think if they can get him back involved with this wide receiver group that gives him some length on the outside and just adds to that that wide receiver room absolutely and uh but the fact that they’re they one guy portal are you kidding me yeah in this day and age exactly uh it’s amaz because you think that people aren’t making a run at Elijah Sarat oh yeah there’s always tampering going on I’m sure there’s a lot of people that would like to have Sarat and what he brings to the table because he’s a stranded receiver and we saw it tonight with the plays that he made tonight well you keep talking because I got to scroll up and look for something at five left’s commented on oh well uh I think there’s your answer to Privia I think it’s Bo yeah that’s it thank you yeah I think that’s who it is but yeah um it’s uh a game tonight that you just kind of have to tip your hat to Notre Dame and what coach Freeman has done and what they had a great game plan yeah and uh he’s got two really good coordinators and and golden and uh coach Den Brock Den Brock’s been around for a while you know there’s at LS Shu last year coached the Heisman Trophy winner uh leaves there to come to Notre Dame because he’s been here this is his second trip here to Notre Dame because he was here with Kelly for a little bit and uh I tell you he does a great job of putting his players in great positions and uh he’s not overly complex in their philosophical approach in their in their game plans and stuff because he is one of those guys that lesses more and he gets every bit of talent out of the guys that he’s got playing for him on the field five just reposted man I can’t find it and it’s it’s too hard scrolling through all that stuff sorry uh just reposted on there for me uh fundamental Bear yeah yeah well next year will be a a a test for Indiana no doubt like I said they pick up ped state and Oregon um but La this year they had Washington and Michigan on their schedule two teams that played for the national championship and it just didn’t happen to work out that they had the seasons that they expected don’t know what I mean do I think Oregon will will be decimated in some way no uh they got they’ve got all the money so they’ll just reload yes and they’ve been good for a while now um but and Penn State is Penn State they’re not going to be bad so uh it’ll be interesting but because both of those games are are both of those games on on the road uh I know Oregon is um and maybe Penn State too they I think may be right maybe are both both of them are on the road yeah those are going to be very Stern tests but uh and and you can lose both of those games and still be okay especially if those teams are both top five teams well you’re supposed to you’re not supposed to win those games right I mean if you do it’s great but you’re I guarantee you they won’t be favored to win them so why is it such a negative thing when you don’t win those games now you you can’t get your ass kicked um no right you’ve gotta have a t you gotta have a showing and you gotta play it tough and hey look I think the the stage that Indiana has been on twice now now in the college football player playoffs here at Notre Dame and the game at Ohio State um you know kind of showed some of the uh you know the Growing Pains of playing on an elite stage and I think tonight we saw some of those uh maybe a little bit of the big eyes you know out there on the field tonight but hey that you know you can’t get there and not learn from it and take that learning and moving forward these kids will have this experience to rely upon and they know where they’re at and what it’s going to take to try to get themselves back here and that’s the thing I like what Kyle says he said he’ll take 11 wins every year and he doesn’t give a crap who they come against that’s that’s the attitude to take Buddy in in division one college football now if you can get 11 wins yeah you’re winning yeah you just play the games that you have on your schedule and you uh try to win every single one of them and Indiana this year did a heck of a job of doing that for the most part and it’ll continue I I really believe that it’s just going to get uh it’s going to be interesting to see this program grow over the next couple of years to see the recruiting get better it’s not going to all happen at once I mean he’s not going to have a a boatload of four stars next year and you have to start getting four stars I understand that that that this team is made up of a bunch of great gritty midlevel guys but guess what that’s why they came up short against Notre Dame that’s why they came up short against Ohio State you you’ve got to have more than that and and that’s just the long and the short of it you have to have you’ve got to be able to match Talent um and then exceed that Talent with the Ty type of play that Kurt cetti breeds yeah and this recruiting class that they’ve got coming in I believe they do have one fourstar in it as a true freshman Bri Baldwin yeah and you don’t know how many of those kids are ready to play and step up and you know be a factor in next year’s uh plan on either side of the football and we you know that’s the the beauty of every year I’ve always said that graduation is healthy when you’re you’re going to lose kids through their time period being over and they’re moving on but that allows you to provide the opportunities those kids that have been in that second team and third team room they now get that next shot on top of what gets brought in in a Competitive Edge and I think that’s the one thing that coach cetti has done he’s created a competitive environment that these kids are competing against each other and that makes them better and it provides them the opportunity to get better each and every day and that’s how the Notre Dames and the georgas and the alabas and all these schools do it I mean uh Nick sain said it today you come in as a freshman for two years you may not play as a true freshman but by the time you’re a junior you’re going to be ready to play and probably be in the NFL because of what you’ve competed against in practice every day and that’s what coach Zetti’s got to do is create that competitive environment Brad asking did the announcer say that Rook is the fifth rated quarterback in the draft or D his beverages kick in too much of the time I I think I heard him say that it was sixth I thought I heard him say but but ctis Curtis has improved his draft stock no dud he is I’ve been he is a legit NFL backup and I think he will make a nice living as an NFL backup yeah and and here’s the other thing you know you don’t know what him being a Canadian what the Canadian uh CFL if he doesn’t have the opportunity NFL will provide him either because of the CFL League back home because they you know being a Canadian he’ll get pretty good pay there too but I do think he is a legit NFL prospect that like you said you bring him in you compete for a couple years and see where he’s at who knows maybe he blossoms into being a starter uh Custer oh Carter I’m sorry I can’t read Carter uh says may be referring answering to something earlier but says to sub degree absolutely there are probably instances of this but how many top tier coaches leave their team an hour before a game to join game day I don’t understand the issue with that um what’s what are if you don’t have it done by by then it you know what’s what’s going to happen What what what’s is there a wand that’s going to be waved in in that hour or something if if you’re not ready by then you’re not ready uh that stuff has been taken care of you’re well coach zetti is a CEO yeah I mean the assistant the two coordinators are running the show for of the ball and he’s the every every unit everybody that has the unit direction does that you can’t pass pass up the legitimacy of public of Pub being pubbed because there’s a lot of kids watching college game day that are good football players do you know how viable that has been in the end of this year oh it’s free free a they have gotten hours upon hours of commercials on ESPN on Fox on all these uh platforms that is invaluable that Indiana has never gotten that the big schools get it’s invaluable kids want to go to those schools man and uh and that’s just a part of it that’s just that’s where the money comes from it’s again that that had nothing to do with nothing so I don’t I’m sorry but I don’t see why that’s even even brought up um I’m sure they got the only person the the comedian that was on the guest picker oh he he’s he said it but he’s also the same guy that called uh Nick sa a cheater right in front of him oh he didn’t like that it it pissed save it off I’m not oh yes uh go back and watch it I’ll have to check it was kind of funny I mean that comedian’s kind of funny but he has no filter yeah uh I mean none he’ll say it uh it doesn’t matter but uh let’s see Jim says coach Sig talked crap and then stepped in it he you know what that that’s that’s gonna happen that’s okay uh he knows that’s gonna happen so he the fact that if you can still do that then still talk it and keep talking it keep talking it man when you’re 11 and one I don’t think you’re stepping in too much crap ah Billy Edwards with Wisconsin how about that yes that’s right he did interesting uh it’s this gonna be interesting to see he just Crossing Lines in the Big 10 but we’ll get that’s that’s a that’s a whole another show we’ll get on um Russell said he didn’t care for the chatter during the game between uh Shan and uh I forget the other guy’s name and this was ABC not ESPN ESPN actually said yes IU belongs get over it well I’m not sure what that was going on well they had know Sean MCD and then I can’t oh sho I’m blanking I can’t think the guy he was a quarterback for Alabama but anyway there’ll be somebody to be able to throw that out um Midwest boxing says need a playmaker who could beat band coverage they need more than a playmaker they need they need some Playmakers and that’s that goes that just goes right back to what we’re talking about they need some Elite Talent uh they have really good talent don’t get me wrong but you have to have exact playmaker exactly what you’re saying they but they need you need more than one but one is great uh as long as you have the other components a stronger offensive line they’ve got they’ve got to beef up the offensive line but I’m not telling anybody anything that everyone doesn’t already know absolutely and that’s where EJ Williams can be a factor because he’s got length and all that and unfortunately donov and malli didn’t want to sit around and wait his turn again and that kind of took away some of that length on the outside as well absolutely uh post what he said about Coach grith uh dude I don’t know did I miss it again um said about Coach yeah I don’t know what what you posted I hope it’s good yeah one would hope but I don’t I don’t know what it was so just keep posting it brother all viny will see it uh I missed it what do you guys think of non-conference games next year I think they suck they absolutely suck um Jim asking that it’s it’s a uh it it’s a it’s a I think that that that’s an area where Indiana needs to improve on if you’re going to be T want to be taken seriously there it is um thank you go left yeah all right no you’re correct the the the the we’ll get back to that one yeah the conf if you g to be taking seriously you’ve got to step outside your comfort zone and now like I said they’re going to be playing Oregon they’re going to be playing Penn State they’re going to be playing Seven other big 10 games right uh so it’s not like they got a a a cakewalk no but I still think that like if they had that Louisville game on the schedule this year that would have been a big difference maker uh a huge difference maker they made a decision there to not do play Louisville game and picked up the eighth home game and it turned out to be the right thing at the right time but that doesn’t mean it should be done every year uh and5 left says thank you to coach Griff for his commentary this season absolutely uh appreciate appreciate you five left for bringing that up brother uh absolutely man dude that’s why I tell everybody I go trust me you think I don’t know that no one Tunes in to listen to what I got to say anytime I go that’s why I have such great guests exactly I’m no dummy I may be I was born at night but it wasn’t last night uh but yeah Michael Allen says he wanted Indiana win but they didn’t he’ll uh root for Notre Dame to win at all well yeah right idea there you go that should be a Dandy of a game against Georgia yep having eight home games helped them this year they’ll have seven next year that’s not a bad R Having Eight home games that they took advantage of that’s the key component is they took advantage of those eight home games uh DAV says that they need to either beat Oregon or Penn State next year yeah I I well need to is is um I’m not sure is that’s the word but it would one of those would sure be nice it would definitely be a way to get some some legitimacy instead of a continued doubt about whether you’re a truly a a a team that’s that’s there or because they haven’t proven that they are yet and I understand what they uh how successful they were this year and they deserve all the credit in the world for that because this was a three and9 one and 18am yeah that could not have done what they did this year that same I look yeah I look at Indiana a little bit like when Joe tiller went to Purdue and he kind of turned it around there and then they found a way to beat some of these teams like an Ohio State or a Penn State uh to provide them some legitimacy in their battle um as it pertains to being recognized as a top tier team uh B says y’all need to beat Notre Dame well they’re not playing Notre Dame again for five years that’ll happen in 2029 or 2030 yeah one of those two and I think that will be a good match up to have as a non-conference game and then yes the playoffs will be expanding oh yeah uh without question so probably sooner rather than later and so seeing Indiana in the college football playoffs is not something that could be a rarity right I I truly think that this is a team that can win 10 games next year yeah I yeah I think there’s an opportunity just like we saw a path this year for what they did and um if they get the right mix of kids in the you know on offense and defense and they can do some of the things they did this year why not absolutely uh let’s see I want to make sure we don’t miss out on any of these things uh yeah we’re getting into the the talk about the just the cfp in general no no one you know what no one believes that the conference Champion should automatically get a buy I have not heard one person yet say that they think that they that that doesn’t disag or doesn’t agree with what he’s saying yeah they’re just G they’re gonna have to tweak the but they won’t be able to do it until they expand it yeah right but they’re going to have some things that they’re going to have to look at no IU is not a one hit wonderer this is a it’s a whole different deal man you’ve got too much good coaching in there uh Brian Haynes Mike shanan is still growing as an offensive coordinator I think he he’s I I think that these games Notre Dame Ohio State Michigan are great for him for IU’s future for his future absolutely he has to go through those as well just like the teams do he has there’s stuff to learn because I I understand that he’s been with Sig for a while understand they had a lot of great success at at James Madison and whether coach Sig wants to acknowledge it or not I’m sorry this ain’t James Madison this ain’t the Sun Belt this is not the colonial this is the freaking Big 10 and young coaches I mean you look at the youthfulness even of Brian Haynes and what he’s been able to do you know he went up against a a a a Wy veteran and and Coach demock tonight and um these guys know how to attack defenses that they’ve seen at all I mean they and uh they were very complimentary of the Indiana defense they they they liked what they did tonight and they just hit they hit the big run and that was about it in the rushing attack um for the night but um yeah coach Shan he’ll grow from this experience as will Bryant Haynes will grow as will all the assists coaches is that goes with it because you either get either you either get better or you get worse because you never remain the same and that goes for coaching too you’re either gonna get better or worse because you won’t be the same Jamie uh asking can you guys speak as to why I you called so many run plays early in the game no I I mean we will speak to it but I can’t give you an answer because I don’t know I it was something that we a lot of us were talking about but obviously they had a reason uh they wanted to try to establish the Run game well yeah I get that to a degree but Notre Dame was able to mix in a nice little complimentary passing game yeah absolutely but the inability of Curtis roor kind of showed itself tonight yeah with those quicker defenseman defensive lineman he didn’t move very much and he doesn’t buy time where Riley was buying himself time yeah uh and sometimes it worked for a pass and sometimes you just ran the damn Ball but uh why Indiana ran the ball so much uh yeah right they needed to establish the Run game but it wasn’t uh there were just some times where I I’m like why are you calling a run here well and the other thing is they’re built on the RPO game as well so we don’t know how many of those runs were actually rpos that Curtis handed off into but the RPO game um against teams like Notre Dame in Ohio State wasn’t as effective to a degree even Michigan in the second half uh because they went to Mand man and you’re not going to get a clean look in the RPO game when you’re playing manto man and loading the box so those are things that coach uh sigety and uh Shanahan will look at and learn from because they’ve got to find ways to still be able to do what they need to do uh whether that is on different sets whether that’s bringing into a couple tight ends to balance the front that’s the one thing that they didn’t have you know that dual tight end type of setup um but running the game tonight I think they were trying to establish it and maybe got a little bullheaded with it James says his son is a high school coach in Tennessee four straight state championships congratulations uh games and he can tell you that kids in Tennessee are interested in IU hey I guarantee you absolutely kids are interested now you from all over but they’re also interested in other schools but in Indiana is one of those schools now that they are interested in legitimately yeah better players are you can talk Indiana now and and and have some uh uh clout behind it uh than what they have been absolutely uh let’s see boy we’re really getting all kinds of questions here uh wo asks is IU going to add on to their Stadium capacity yes yeah they’re doing but when I don’t know they’re doing A10 million doll something now I think yeah there’s no direct plans that have been released yet but yes that will be happening there there’s just no there’s no option they have there’s no timeline yeah we we don’t know what they’re going to do the how they’re going to do it they need to add a new Press Box new suet something like they have here set up is this is pretty pretty cool here because it’s on both sides of the stadium the Press Box used to just be there when I was the last when I was here in 91 the Press Box was there this was not here there was no there were no sweets here these those ends weren’t there well that entire upper ring right there was added uh which is which is crazy speaking of the touchdown Jesus is green by the way they got it lit up in the Christmas colors is it Christmas or Notre Dame well I would say both could be right uh let’s see meloy I don’t know who’s talking about Michael Roy that’s the that was the color man tonight Michel Roy oh yes yeah thank you thank you yeah you guys are usually so much faster um Rook has a pretty wife huh well there you go well he’s some dummy he’s a quarterback man have you ever seen a quarterback with an ugly wife that’s right if you got if you see a quarterback with an ugly wife you’re not looking at a very good quarterback that uh Kurt or Brent musberger got in trouble for that he he was gushing over Alabama who was it Alabama quarterback’s can’t remember girl he was uh just gushing over got in trouble with that one oh yeah so now I guess that’s gonna pretty much wrap it up uh oh yeah it is uh gonna turn into pumpkin boy I’ve got drive four hours of driving to do are you heading back I think so uh I got to get this knee ice down because like I said I wasn’t going to miss this because of a knee replacement and sorry we’re not being as boisterous as normal but we’re in the Press Box so actually we’re very fortunate that they allowed us to do this here because the cfp rules are unbelievably tight we were I was not even couldn’t even go onto the field I have I did not step foot on the field that’s a first for a game that I’ve been to that I did go onto the field to do something either before or afterward so that theography they don’t want well that’s ESPN and the cfp and all that stuff so but uh man we cannot thank you guys enough as always uh for joining us here on the hard truth Indiana football postgame show we won’t have any more postgame shows for uh for football season but we’re going to continue doing some stuff it’s just going to be fun there’s going to be recruiting to talk about now there’s going to be stuff to talk about when it comes to Indiana football and and non-stop so uh looking forward to every bit of it uh let’s see uh hit another one up here from Troy go Jim do you like the Press Box and luxury suites at not stadi absolutely absolutely something you’d want absolutely appreciate the Insight from both of you oh absolutely yeah apprciate you guys I mean I like Indiana don’t get me wrong that Press Box sucks yeah it sucks I mean suxs it sucks it is old it’s older than dirt it is old it is it’s just it’s old it’s just it just feels old these are things that but they it’s not about that it’s it’s more about they need the sweets they need to add more capacity they need to fill in the corners on the south end with seats they that Stadium needs to hold at least 68,000 they’re around 53 now so you know they’ve got to add and Scott dson has that and he knows that it’s I mean that’s that’s that’s in the works they’re they’re probably in the planning stages of that somehow dude they got money a lot of money hey you it it takes money to make money and if you build more seats that means you get more asses in the seats well when he helps that uh uh let’s see what helped you guys were 7 and0 before Oregon was yeah know that’s I’m not sure what that conversation is about but uh it’s been fun it’s going to wrap it up for us man absolutely it’s been an hour and uh I could go on here as we sit here look at the uh yeah it’s snow the golden dome the snow falling over it’s kind of a cool I gotta be honest with you it’s kind of a cool site we’re sitting here looking out over the field oh it is uh with the golden dome in the uh in the far in the far distance there but uh Indiana’s football season comes to an end finally as Kurt cetti opened up his press conference tonight by saying all good things come to an end and uh it has this season but that’s okay because every team season ends with a loss except for one that’s right don’t ever forget that everybody loses the last game except for one team so hopefully uh next year they can build on to that and uh you know the you know what the worst thing about this is I said this to someone earlier and I’m serious the worst thing about football season being over is now we got to look at cover basketball and it’s amazing people would clamoring to get to the basketball season out of all the Indiana Seasons prior but now not anymore baby want it to stop but it’s been fun appreciate being on appreciate the people in the chat and uh as always but hey I’ll be back coach is I was going say he’s home with us every Thursday but this is just kind of cool to get to do do these glad you got to come down for this as well absolutely uh one of those special occasions I’m not gonna lie I was looking forward to going to New Orleans and covering Indiana the sugar bow because I was thinking hey George’s quarterback’s out yeah Notre Dame could roll right by them uh it’s but who knows it’ll be interesting it will be absolutely interesting can I thank you guys enough man you all are amazing uh Cornelius oh boy boy you got some people that just having fun no worries y’all enjoy it uh it’s been great thank you guys so very very much make sure you uh come back on Monday for Indiana Sports be radio each and every day during the week
