good morning DJ and PK it’s 975 The Zone welcome in on a Monday morning is a bad weekend if you’re rude for the youths of the Cougars rough and if you root for the Jazz you want a high draft pick you may not be thrilled that they just won their fourth game the Utah Hockey Club split decision they lose Saturday or excuse me they win Saturday in Pittsburgh and then they lose Sunday in Toronto for the best of the postgame show and how they lost 3 to2 six really bad minutes in the middle of the second period here’s Adrien Denny with the best of the postgame show djn PK and night after the Utah Hockey Club defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins six to one they were in Toronto taking on the Maple Leafs on Sunday night and after taking a one- nothing lead Toronto put up three goals in 5 minutes and 35 seconds in the second and Utah found themselves down by a count of 31 32 would be the final as Jack McBain got Utah within one with a late one in the third period let’s get to the highlights it was Logan kolie on the power play late in the first period is Utah who scored three Power Play Goals on Saturday night in Pittsburgh picked up where they left off Sunday in Toronto making it four for their last five on the oneman advantage Keller back to serach Tapped in and they score it’s Logan kie a power play goal for Utah and this special teams unit stays hot so one- nothing going to the second period after Utah put up a season High 12 shots in the opening frame and it was just one of those contests 5 minutes and 35 seconds cost Utah the game cost him control of the contest just a detail here a detail there a couple of penalties couple breakaways and before you knew it Toronto had a 3-1 lead as I said head coach Andre turny called time out and absolutely let his group group have it got them back on track they killed a couple big penalties going down the stretch in the second including 1 minute and 24 seconds down five on three kept the game with an arms length going to the third period in that third period Jack McBain his seventh of the Year fifth goal in eight games got Utah back within a goal McBain goes barreling up against the glass low to high here in the offensive zone for Utah kessle ring locates Logan he shoots tipped in and they score it’s Jack McBain again and the Toronto native scores in his hometown Utah is back within one and Jack McBane is scorching hot some good chances going down the stretch some big carel Vela saves as he went on the backto back for Utah stopped 32 of 35 so so far in this trip the Utah Hockey Club has outscored their opposition by a count of eight to five but they lost one- nothing Thursday in Boston one61 on Saturday in Pittsburgh and lost 3-2 on Sunday night to the Toronto Maple Leafs they’re next in action Tuesday in Montreal it’ll be another five o’l face off four o’clock Hockey Night in Utah right here on the KSL Sports Zone so let’s hear from head coach Andre turny you’ll hear how upset he was about that stretch in the second then you’ll hear really in some instances how happy he was with what his team did to have a chance to win this game and make it to straight on the weekend so I know the penalty conversation is a tough one but how does this become a non-issue especially in a second period like that it’s a big issue I think you get on the road and you repeat the same mistake the same guys stick penalty and that kind of stuff that’s that’s stuff that’s that you know our game management our game in the game cost us a lot today from a from Bad change to uh get in penalty trouble then you know that kind of a stuff it it cuss you at some point and we play a team who’s playing well they they had three win in a row they they’re they’re not easy to play against they fought I think we had our chance we we had a post we we got we did a lot of good stuff but uh we need to help ourselves all that to be said the effort still in the first and the third was was solid oh was Ro all that I you know first back Tob back of the season the boys they fought hard they they deserve credit for that but you know we need to um learn to manage the game better learn to uh make sure we have a short shift especially on the back to back and we played it right away what’s going to help spark some of the the guys that are not on the score sheet as often um to get them engaged and and contributing yeah I think right now we’re we’re getting a contribution in term of pace in term of um opportunity shot on that good lucks from everybody I think the four lines today had out there that looks let’s also hear this morning from the red hot Jack McBain with as I said five goals in his last eight games playing on that red hot line with the 20-year-old Logan kolie you picked up a goal and an assist on Sunday now multiple points in two straight games Dylan Gunther picked up another big point for Utah as well on Sunday so how do you assess a performance like this obviously knowing it’s you know the back toback after a win like you had against uh Pittsburgh yeah it’s tough I think you know back toback games are tough but um you know no excuse I think our first and third period were great but um let off the gas a bit in the second and it cost us what can you say about the effort because like you said the first and third were were pretty solid yeah I think we showed a lot of resilience in the third especially like you said on a back toback I mean those games are tough and um you know I thought we uh played really well and and dominated most of the third so um too bad we couldn’t get it done but you know a lot to build on the message that coach had for you in that timeout what was that message and how did you guys kind of implement that moving forward yeah I think you know we just needed a reset I think a lot of uh you know a lot of things were happen pretty quick and um you know we just kind of needed to talk as a group we’d be a lot more discipline uh can’t take that many penalties and um you know try to figure stuff out but um you know unfortunately we let it get to that point but that’s all right thanks Jack so as you said one more on this trip and then the Utah morning to recap a win in Montreal there’s the best of the postgame show when we come back the Utah Jazz getting a w don’t know if they meant to well the players meant to not sure how the front office felt about it but we’ll get to that next stay with us good morning djm PK proudly presented by our title sponsor Black Desert Resort Utah’s Premier Golf Resort well the Utah Jazz picked up a win over the weekend for more on the victory over the ne Knicks here is Jake Scott with the best the postgame show J Jazz recap here on DJ and PK 975 the KSL Sports Zone Jake Scott with you the jazz came away Victorious over the Knicks on a Saturday afternoon Showdown 121 to 106 the Jazz were red hot shooting the basketball shot 51% from the field uh near 56% from three Lowry marketing with 34 points nine boards to lead the way double doubles for John Collins 20 and 13 Walker Kessler 11 and 10 Collins ston also had a nice night scoring 25 points in the Jazz win let’s get to the postgame sound and start things off with Jazz head coach will hardy was in a game and in the third quarter next a 170 run and then we countered that with about 4ish minutes left in the third we started our own 25 to N Run to kind of regain control of the game um that’s not easy to do it’s something that we’ve been talking a lot about with the team team that we expect the other team to make a run we expect there to be hard moments in any game in the season and we have to find ways to dig out of those moments as a group um there were a bunch of individuals that played well tonight um it was obviously great to have Walker back uh our Rim protection tonight was way better Walker is a part of that his teammates are also a part of that they did a better job executing the scheme um for the Knicks to have 42 points in the paint obviously set the tone for our defense um and then offensively you know any night that you can have six guys in double figures um our starters played very well I do want to highlight Johnny juang though um Johnny has put in a ton of work over the last two plus years he was on a two-way for two seasons with us he has changed his style of play from how he played in college and that is really really difficult to do to have the wherewithal as a player to get to the NBA playing a certain way and then while you’re in the beginning stages of your career instead of sort of saying No this is who I am and trying to sort of stay on the same track he recognized what he needed need to do to stay in the league and make a name for himself and to earn a full-time contract and he did that um Johnny’s an amazing kid he’s really competitive um and he’s worked really really hard on his game and it’s always great to see nights like tonight where in you know under 20 minutes he can have the impact that he had Johnny’s opportunity over the last two years hasn’t been that much with us even in the beginning stages of this season he’s been very in and out um but he has stayed ready and GI deserves all the credit for his approach um and really happy for him Colin had a great game tonight John Collins had a great game tonight Lowry had a great game tonight it it’s it’s fun to see multiple guys play well and not have the game be about one person um we could go down the list and we could talk about everybody who played in the game and they each had things that they did to contribute to winning um so it’s a a really good team win after a couple of tough ones on the road trip and always good to win in front of our home crowd for sure you’ve had a few games like you said where the other team had made big runs and you weren’t able to come back from it what’s the differentiating factor in that moment when you switch over like what what’s the difference when the team is actually able to move on from that moment yeah it’s it’s really about not not worrying about so much why they went on a run sometimes in those moments everybody can get a little bit defensive no he should have done this or I threw it there cuz I thought he was there it’s like it doesn’t matter we had a turnover it’s like whatever the reason is isn’t as important as like we know what we want to do and how we want to play so like let’s rinse that and just focus on the next possession executing it the way we’ve practiced it thousands of times um I think when you get into like the game of like whose fault was it doesn’t matter um and I think the team did a good job of just kind of like taking a deep breath and saying like Okay look let’s just go out right now and get back to the very Foundation of how we want to play on both sides of the ball like let’s keep our defense simple on this next possession and be really aggressive and then offensively let’s try to run something that we all know really well it’s not the time to get tricky or cute it’s like let’s go back to throwing our fast ball for a little bit um thought the team did a great job how and in what ways does Walker kler playing for you guys change how you play um I think there’s different moments defensively where we don’t have to help as much so we’re in rotations a little bit less um offensively tonight you know he gives us a lob threat at The Rim when teams help off the five it’s something we’ve been working on for man my entire time here of trying to see that pass um it’s almost like shooting a floater it actually is shooting a floater it’s the same timing the same tempo but you’re just intentionally missing towards your teammate and I think that tonight was a good example to get a couple of those it makes the other team’s defense overreact to the rooll if you don’t throw those passes whether he’s a roller or whether he’s already in the dunker if you don’t throw a couple of them that weak side stops cheating in as much when you get a few now they’re really overh helping and now the corner is even more open so um yeah Walker is a really impactful player for us um it’s not just about physical stats it doesn’t have to be 40 points and 25 rebounds like the way that he occupies space the shots that he deters on defense even though there are some that he doesn’t necessarily block I know Walker wants to block every shot but the ones that he Alters are just as important has Walker’s passing evolved um yeah yeah we’ve put him in that spot a little bit more each year um especially when you’re playing with a couple of our pick and roll ball you know JC has been trapped a little bit more this year and I think Walker getting the ball in the that pocket and making passes is Big um we also have installed a few things where he catches it on the elbow and it’s his opportunity to make some reads and he’s still working on those things um I think it’s it’s fun for him I think it’s an evolution in his game like I’ve said to you a lot or you guys a lot it’s about getting the dosage right like we don’t want to overly focus on that every game but if we can get him four or five opportunities every night to do it I think it helps build the confidence in it for him um we’ll keep working on it seem to get washed out of PL the way he used to is that just his weight is it intensity I mean what’s a lot of it is truly physical strength um you know he doesn’t weigh that much more um I think he weighs like eight pounds more than he did last year which on that frame is not a massive amount but he is way stronger um so I do think that when it comes down to it that that’s the biggest differentiator I do think that Walker is playing really hard um which also helps but the work he did on his body the summer really stands out there is Will Hardy let’s now move on to the players and he from keonte George oh we just finding the right guys um you know picking apart their defense um knowing what they do defensively we just got to you know you know just holes in you know every defensive scheme so we just had to make sure we made the right play every single time down the floor um and that’s what we did um you know spurts we got away from it but um I think overall like you said we we had the ball popping um you know finding the right guy finding the hot hand um Colin got it going late so we kept finding him um you know throughout the whole game finding Larry uh so I think we just did a good job you know finding the right people in the right spots at the right time there were moments where this game did get close again a little bit in the second half will always talks about regrouping reentering how do you guys feel like you were able to do that to come out with the win uh you know they went on a you know 170 run and um you know we didn’t shut down we stayed together um figured out what we needed to do um as a squad um to just like you said stay together um go out on the floor and compete and we regroup we got it back and you know we made our own run so um when things like that happen um especially when a a team has a not necessarily A not good shooting um have um you know the the basketball guys is always going to flip it around so we got to make sure we stay together um knowing that that team is going to make a run that’s a good team on the other side so know we made our run in the first half they made their run and now it’s time for us to make our run and close the game where did you think the energy kind of came from in the first half a lot of the times it can be defensively but where did you see it uh I mean it was defensively um I think the the first group has a responsibility of setting the tone for the game and how the game is going to go so that starts with you know the point of attack defense me bull picking up full um you know disrupting um you know the ball handlers making them take long to get into their actions um so and then the second group job is to come in and meet the level of the game so um I think it just comes from the first group starting starting starting the right way um keeping the energy High when when the second group comes in there is Keon George 11 points nine assists in the Jazz win over the Knicks let’s now hear from Lowry marinan I’ll give you my scatter repor um just trying to find the opening really it doesn’t matter if it’s obviously we want to hunt Corner threes as a team and uh but whatever wherever the opening is just trying to run the court and a lot of times it is corner and uh we’ve done some flip game when I’m trailing the play and uh just trying to have the variety of those are the kind of feel like with the athleticism today’s game just how many transition opportunities there are like it’s a big part because when teams get half court defense set up like it’s tough to play against that kind of physicality and so just trying to hunt those and transition and stuff like that so what did you like most about your half court defense as a as a team tonight uh well where’s the I think we did think we did a solid job did rebounding and uh trying to improve on that as always but I think that’s where Walker helps out a lot too when he gets to guard perimeter he’s doing a great job on that we can kind of fan out the shooters and he’s such a good rim protector that we’re kind of leaving him playing ones with the guys because he can catch up to them at the rim and eliminate their three-point times that way as well so just trying that’s the emphasis trying to get back on defense and transition that’s the hard part and then obviously trying to get better at half court but that’s like the we’ been okay on that do you like early starts uh yeah I do why is that and would you put like what what how was your day different I guess when you start at 3:00 versus 7 uh I guess there’s no nap so it’s more of a quicker start um but I just like the fact that it’s over earlier get to go home and have dinner and hang out with your family a little bit more than on a normal game day cuz you got shoot around and then you’re taking that like there’s home games that I don’t even see my family um on that day so I prefer to get done earlier and get the day work done I was talking to will before the game about the fact that your attempts at The Rim are down this season and the efficiency is down at The Rim also and I was kind of asking him what he thought the reason was and he had mentioned how much you guys had been working on punishing the switch and kind of working operating in a different area of the court and that that’s going to sacrifice some of maybe your movement towards the rim on some place because you’re specifically working on different stuff how do you view that uh that’s part of it for sure getting a little different kind of looks but also recognizing the when you put the ball down how teams are helping and sending help side defense way earlier and making me make the read and so I think that’s part of it too just trying to having the to deal with the physicality and get getting used to that and uh kind of playing through that contact and but I think it’s a lot of it is just decision- making too like when there is double teams making being able to make that pass out and making the right read and then obviously the efficiency goes up when you’re getting good looks at The Rim instead of Force Ones and uh that what what he was saying kind of a new area of what you’re working on so kind of not worried about it just going to come back to normal so uh coach said he was proud of your overall Tempo the team’s Tempo overall throughout this game you know from a player perspective you know how do you feel about the the game today yeah I feel like it was a fast-paced game uh there was times they got a little tired with the way we were moving changing ends on well both teams offense and defense and uh so it was a fast-paced game and I think we and when you’re playing that way there’s team’s make gonna make a run so I think we handled their whatever 170 run they had in the third quarter or whatever and uh just understanding that when you play that way there’s some mistakes and teams are going to make some shots and like 10-point lead in this league is nothing so kind of understanding that and then still trying to keep the pace up and get our run going so I think we did a solid job as a team that’s Lowry marinan he was redot against New York on Saturday 34 points 11 to 15 15 shooting five of eight from three the jazz beat the Knicks 121 to 106 up next the Jazz take on the San Antonio Spurs tomorrow night at Delta Center tip off will be at 7 pregame coverage begins at 6 when we come back the Utes and cougars go down to defeat we’ll hear from the head coaches next stay with us good morning DJ and PK a reminder you should catch first and 12 Sundays from 10: to noon on the Zone it’s brought to you by Macy’s grocery store get the freshest fruits and vegetables from local farms and your favorite local Brands Macy’s happy shopping all right time to hear from the UTS and the Cougars they both get beat seven straight losses seven in a row for the UTS another winnable game another game where the offense wasn’t good enough another game where the defense couldn’t get a stop on the final possession when they could have won the game here’s Kyle Whittingham afterwards uh first thing I’ll say is how much I appreciate this senior class uh great group of guys uh a lot of them have won so many games for us through the years and and done so much for the program uh tough to see him go but as I say every year that’s the the uh circle of life in college football is seniors go new guys come that’s just how it works so uh but they’ll be missed um very proud of what they’ve accomplished academically while they were here we got uh guys with master’s degrees and I think every one of them by May will have their Bachelors I think 90 something perc of them have it now so so very proud of what they have accomplished they deserved better this season they deserved better tonight um tough loss team battled from start to finish um just just uh you know kind of the story of the Season couldn’t get enough offense generated only found the off the end zone one time offensively uh defense had a pick six uh locked a punt for a touchdown did some good things there that was a very positive thing to see is is uh making a big play on special teams um thought Luke patari came in and really did some good things I’m proud of Luke and uh uh probably will be our quarterback next week as it’s looking and so um but we won’t know for a day or two but hope Isaac’s going to be okay I don’t I don’t think it’s uh real serious but uh again Reserve judgment until uh until we get uh the final doctor results um yeah back to offense you know nine first downs and only a couple hundred yards 220 or something that just that’s just not enough and defensively again we had a chance to make the stop at the end to to to clinch and we just can’t seem to make that final stop that we need um but uh again guys have a a reason to hold their head high they play they sold out they gave it everything anything they had and uh just wasn’t enough again tonight so questions Kyle it seems like Isaac was holding on to the ball a little too long to try to get his receivers is that does it is he thinking too much because he trying to play a conservative or kind of what’s going into that decision you made uh I think there’s probably a combination of things um not wanting to make a mistake is probably at the top of the list and not you know we’ve turned them ball over excessively this year and and uh that’s uh you know in order to have a chance you can’t do that and we didn’t turn it over excessively tonight so that was uh one of the reasons why we’re in the ball game but but uh you know he’s young which matters I mean he’s a freshman although he’s had uh probably 600 reps now 500 plus and so uh we just got to evaluate everything and and still have one more ball game next week although like I said questionable whether he’ll be available but uh he’s a work in progress and uh we’ll just continue to see how things uh play out Kyle with like you said all the Reps that Isaac has had 500 600 I could hear the number is he where you want him to be in terms of his development and and what else I guess would you need to see from him in the offseason yeah we need to uh we need to be better we need to be better as coaches I need to be better I’m not you know we’re not pinning this on Isaac Wilson by any way means but um we’ll evaluate the whole body of work at the end of the season you know we evaluate it every week but at the end of the year we’ll look at uh what he was able to do and what the numbers were because statistics matter for a quarterback they matter a lot and so uh it’s one of the positions that uh really are uh statistically driven and so we’ll we’ll just make those decisions uh once we get the game uh complete next week we play heading to Central Florida on Friday so what 6 days left before the season’s over we know not going to a bowl game which is unfortunate for those seniors cuz again they they uh they really deserve that but just came up short from your Vantage Point what went wrong on that final defensive series just the quarterback was uh executing throwing the ball he’s a really good quarterback his his uh efficiency rating is like third in the league and so he’s he’s a a veteran that uh does a great job for him got a lot of respect for him and he just executed that drive uh almost flawlessly and so but then to our credit we come back and March right back down the field the other way and and really good field goal range till the the uh intentional grounding penalty but but uh that made it a 54 y Cole hit it pretty decently just a little bit wide R I guess is what it was and so uh Cole is has been pretty reliable this year I think he’s close to 80% with his kicks and so uh that was the difference obviously with the season so close to being finished and you’re in the midst of an offensive coordinator search uhuh with the way this season has gone and like you mentioned the plug-and-play environment that now is college football you know how are you serving what type of candidate that you want to lead this offense moving forward yeah taking a look at everybody uh in the country essentially and and uh looking at uh you know who’s done what and who’s done what where and with what personnel I mean there’s a lot that goes into it it’s not just hey who whoever whichever team scores the most that’s the guy you want and so we’re doing a thorough search and and it’s important that we get uh somebody in place sooner rather than later ideally before Signing Day um but as I’ve said many times it’s more important you get the right guy the timing is important but not as important as getting the right guy and so we’ll uh we’re doing a national search and and uh see what we come away with coach on the final incompletion before the field goal attempt Luke threw the ball to the middle of the field and it was wide open there do you know if the tight end of the receiver had an option to go there uh no I don’t I don’t uh you know I haven’t had a chance to go analyze that it was it was uh you the last play of the game just trying to get the everything straight for the field goal but we’ll we’ll hash that out tomorrow but Luke Luke played uh pretty darn good and uh you know the one on the intentional grounding uh that was a route structure issue but anyway you extend the the streak to 21 years with land pick six I know you lose but how does it feel to finally get that streak for another year well yeah that streak I guess is nice but I don’t know what you know great play by Lander by the way the whole defense they executed that interception return drill which we work on every week in practice flawlessly but uh that’s one of those tertiary is that the right word tertiary things that that are positive but but not really uh applicable to winning a championship I mean I guess minimally because we’ll be able to score on defense with a pick six for at least once for that many years but but uh I don’t really pay a whole lot of attention to that stat you know it’s more about winning and losing Kyle can I just ask you what it means to honor Tai Jordan and Aaron low tonight it means a ton and to have uh their families here and got to spend some time with their families yesterday uh they would have been seniors obviously that’s the the reason that uh that we had the uh the honoring of those two young men and uh we miss them we miss them and unfortunately there’s not a lot of guys left on our team that knew them because you know they both came you know five years ago the co year which obviously didn’t count but but uh anyway it was uh really special to honor them and and have their families here great families love love those people the UTS have their problems the Cougars have a different set of problems they were 9 and0 now they are 9-2 after getting beat at Arizona State what went wrong in that horrible first half when they fell behind 21 to nothing here’s Kanani sataki at his press conference after the game tough game man what a what a cool environment college football is awesome U Big 12 Football a lot of fun obviously didn’t work out in our favor just really proud of the team proud of the guys I think they could could have uh quit at any moment and so um it didn’t look great especially the first half I’m proud of the guys fighting back and even when they had that score to go up had 28 points on the board um the guys just kept fighting and so I’m really proud of the leadership on this team our coaches our players obviously didn’t have uh didn’t do enough to to get the win but uh you have to give a lot of credit to Arizona State um Kenny Dillingham and the team they’re ready I thought they they jumped they had a great start um well coached team um you know I mean you look at the weapons that they have on offense and then I think you know looking at what the defense has done I mean that that’s that’s a underrated defense I don’t think people give enough credit to um but overall just a really good game and just didn’t work out in our favor I thought the uh um The Experience the uh the environment was really cool uh just just happened that we were a few yards short you know but the um yeah the experience was cool and and uh just just want you know looking at our team and our players I I our guys have we we’ve earned the right to extend the season already so all I know is we have two games left for sure and so where how many games other than that I don’t know I don’t know all the all the situations everything goes into it but uh we got to win that one next week for you know at home uh Houston game for for our seniors um and so uh there’s still a lot more to play for and uh we’ve got to get back and learn as much as we can from this and get back on it I mean we’re sitting right now at 9 and2 um and and um you know just just overall though just really I talked to the team just proud of them you know obviously it’s not the result they wanted and that they they anticipated or or planned on but uh now you got to find out how you how do you respond from this I mean we’ve the last two games if you look at the Kansas game and and Arizona State game came down to the to the last drive and so we lost by uh you know one score and uh this conference is is full of of great teams that can play and are physical and so uh I I believe we we fit nicely in the conference and I I know Arizona state does too and um you know just wish him best of luck the rest of the way and and I don’t know all the scenarios that goes into it but we we’ll see what happens and I don’t even know what happened with the scores the games and everything but Colorado lost yeah so I told you guys Kansas was pretty good you know and that that’s pretty tough for Kansas to to I mean beat three ranked teams in a row um and I think preseason everybody thought they would be the team that they’re playing like right now so this you know we’ve got to get back on on the winning track and and the way you do that is play better from the beginning to the end if we can just put it together for 60 minutes I feel good about our chances uh obviously we didn’t get that done this game but you know I think Arizona state did some really um I mean they did they they scored they they they possessed the clock and they got some first downs uh scabo is a really good running back he’s one of the best running backs in in college football we knew that going in I I like the way he plays the game I just like the way that this team um Arizona State team worked and Kenny’s done a great job with him uh the culture that they have it’s just a lot it’s a lot of fun I I it was an honor to be on the field with him you know and compete it just did not work out our way man but I but can’t cannot um you can’t can’t um deny that it was a really good game and uh the sucky part is that we had really good games the last two weeks we just they they we had to you know take one in the in the Lost column twice and so what questions do you guys have for me before I just Ramble On and then TI up all the time what was the difference in the second half offensively obviously much yeah well I think in the first half it just seems like Arizona State got the the momentum and they just start keep keep pounding it and and they they got I think the um the kickoff uh that that they kind of squipped it off of our guy that that you know put a tired defense back out there we’ve got to learn to put our guys in there and if if if they’re tired put some fresh guys in there and and I I think they just took it to us and and we had we had to respond I think the their style of play was be really physical and we had to decide if we were going to do that and match it or not and get run out of here or or or or you know hold hold our ground and and I’m proud of the way the guys responded just I we just need to do that before we just do it right from the Geto and um but that’s easier said than done these are really good teams and um I I know this coaching staff uh Arizona State staff really well I know a lot of the guys on on the staff and they’re excellent coaches and I know a lot of the players that play and they they do a great job so um it was just it’s a it’s a definite uh cool environment for them to be here but I I love that we had lot of fans represent too and so I I’m disappointed that we didn’t get the win for them but um I hope they know how much we would love and appreciate them being here and and uh being a a factor for us in this game what was running through your mind when the field needed to be cleared and you know for one more second left what was kind of going through your mind yeah I was just hoping for all kinds of stuff I was like how many penalties do they get you know I was just trying to get un Sportsman like conducts on the crowd and the their student section and I don’t know just just hoping just we that we had one more one more shot um we had the 1 second at the 49 yard line and um I just you know how close was it was chasing that yeah so dang it you know but that’s uh I think there’s a good way we can we can respond from this in in a positive manner but that’s just I think when you put yourself in the hole too much it’s going to be hard to crawl out of it especially against really quality teams like Arizona State and we found that out it’s a tough lesson to learn but give them credit they they deserve the win they got it and we we have to we have to learn from this and and get better and but we’re sitting at 9 and two I don’t know exactly what the standing show but there’s a lot of parody in this league and so we can’t just show up and think that the Houston game is going to be an easy one you know that’s our senior game this was I think I believe this was Arizona State senior night senior day and so there’s a lot to play for you play with a little bit more energy when you know it’s a senior’s last chance I mean I’ve been part of that I’ve been a senior before and played in those games and uh there’s just a little bit more extra energy with that and maybe that was part of it but I hate them I hate to just minim like kind of diminish their their win though and say that that was the Catalyst I think they’re a good team you know and and um and I think people should start respecting them a little bit more because I I think this is this conference is a good conference and and it’s not going to be easy for anyone to run through this conference and um you know we we’ve we’ve been in a really good spot uh we’ve had some things work out in our favor and this this this one and the last one didn’t it didn’t so we just have to keep playing I know that’s not the first premature field storming in college football history but did you think the fact that it took 15 minutes that it was a little excessive as far as how long you all had to wait before that final play I I hate getting mad at the fans I mean they’re they’re so excited to to get the win it’s two ranked teams that we’re playing um all we heard is that there was might be one second that’s and I’m going to cling on as much hope as I can you know and so it’s okay I none of our guys were hurt and and so there was no no big issue there and and they they eventually cleared it and we were able to get that one play and so I just I I understand the fans excitement energy and it’s okay no nobody I mean I didn’t think they’re uh they’re too rude to us I mean they’re excited about their win did the officials offer an explanation to you as to why there was not an Sportsman like penalty one second left um the the statement that was said I think I think we thought there was going to be one cuz there was a um what it was explained to me is that there was a uh intentional grounding and so when the ball is thrown out of bounds it the clock stops when it goes right out out out of bounds and so that but even if there was no time on the clock that would still be a untimed down and so um I don’t I was told that the uh the the conference said that there there will not be a unsportsman like conduct I don’t I don’t know that that’s that was a conference decision and that’s this this game doesn’t come down to that it was it’s just that’s just the the game guys this this crew this ref crew was awesome they communicated well to me and we had a chance to snap the ball from 49 obviously we’d love to have it closer but that’s that’s the game I I I don’t think the game was won or loss in that one moment it was it was um it was the 59 and minutes and 59 seconds before how surprising was that onsite kick in the second quarter did you see anything leading up on Scout that yeah we we’ve seen that before cuz I I think I think it was more of a squib kick like a little quick squib and so we practiced that the crazy is we practiced all those things everything that they did we practice but it shows that just because you practice it doesn’t mean anything I mean that when when when it’s live and the situation you know requires a little bit more attention and focus it was just unfortunate that that happened to us and I I think I can’t remember which player it was but he couldn’t get out of the way cuz the ball was pretty hot when it was kicked and and and good for them and they were able to make that play I would would have loved to recover it and run it back for Touchdown teach them a lesson but that’s just that’s the risks you take and they’re willing to do that we and we weren’t able to make the play what did you see on Jake’s interception before the last Drive yeah I don’t know exact I didn’t all I saw is that I I don’t think it was on target the throw and so I don’t want to be too critical but it seemed like it went straight to the defender I don’t even know which receiver was in was it was it was it overthrown or underthrown I don’t even know was over yeah dang it I mean I love Jake and and and the guys are clicking everything was working we felt like we felt the momentum and uh credit to Arizona State they got the Stop and and um you know we we we did everything I mean that you think the game was over right then and we kept looking at the clock and and seeing okay if we if we can get a stop and but it was the the the play before that I was so proud of the defense scattero was like pounding the ball and that’s what I would do if it was fourth down and one and and and you have a chance to win the game and and I got scattero I’m giving him the ball too you know and I’m or I’m trying to find a way to to to take the play and and win and win the game so I I I’m excited that that it came down to that play and then we got the ball back you know and we drove the ball and and that just that interception was unfortunate but that’s the game of football you know and I I want Jake to feel like he can be aggressive and make those plays and and he’ll learn from it but uh this this is a this is one of those really fun games just it just happens that we lost it are there signs and practice this week that made you think there there might be a slow start on the rise no I mean if everybody can predict that then they would that that person would be really rich you know but um I I think going into this week though Mitch the the the prep was nice the guys worked hard the leadership um from from the unfortunate loss that we faced against uh Kansas at home there’s just this feeling like let’s get back let’s get back to what we know and and the hard part is that you’re you’re going against a really talented team in Arizona State so it’s not an easy thing to do Ju Just because you want to play at your best and everybody wants to play if if if someone’s playing at a high level and the other and the other one isn’t then you you’re quick to say well we need to do better but I think you just have to give credit to Arizona State they made the plays they they converted third downs and they made they made some difficult runs and we weren’t able to do it we were they were able to convert um they they took care of the football most most of the time I think we got a was it how many turnovers were we had a couple balls on the ground that we I think we could have had but it’s this this is is part of the game I I I don’t want to sit here and and nitpick every little thing and say that we should have done this better than that we we’ll go back and and and look at that watch the film I want to give credit to Arizona State they they deserved a win they got it and I’m I’m I’m happy that we were able to play this game and now I’m looking forward to learning from it it’s got to be the best running back you guys have faced this year the running backs in this conference are really good I think we we got a couple of them too but um he is he runs a different style I like it I I think he’s a he’s a punishing player I mean is he a senior this year good good good for us and everyone else but he he’s a good player I just I like his I like his demeanor and I like the the the team rallies I mean you can feel the energy when he carries the ball and breaks tackles and so I I think he’s a Next Level running back and I think there’s a bunch of them in this conference but he’s definitely up there and not just in the conference but he’s he’s a he’s one of the Premier backs in in the country Kanani last week you came off that L obviously very disappointed what was the feeling in the locker room today after a second loss yeah but you rallied after being down big was it a different feeling well I didn’t want them to just sit there and feel sorry for themselves cuz no one no one’s going to feel sorry for them so we’ve got to we still have another game to play and and and we definitely have two right so we we got to focus on the next one which is the senior game and and um and learn from this but I I we’ve got to get over the it’s it’s just weird feelings that guys like have gret regret and and guilt and shame over like oh we should have done this better better that doesn’t help you you just got to learn like just just let’s play better from the beginning as much as we can and even if we do that it may you not work out in your favor but at least you can live with the results I think these guys can live with the result because the second half they came back and they fought for it if they just dug themselves too big of a hole anything else for Coach you only had 25 rushing yards in the first half when you had like 45 on the first drive and second half going forward you the r game early on more what was that the going forward what you establish the Run game early on yeah I just want to get the ball downfield however it goes I mean I just want to get points on the board and it’s so like yeah I don’t um we have to look at where where the deficiencies are why we weren’t able to do it consistently but I I mean a lot of that has to do with with mistakes but a lot has to do with the talent that we’re going against it’s not you’re just not seeing a lot of teams just go and just you know just completely take over the others I mean people are going to respond just like we did and and come back and keep fighting through it and then that’s why a lot of these games are T are tight so um yeah I I it’s hard for me to even say it without watching the film but um I wish I could just say like yeah we we made all the mistakes but again if I do that then I’m taking away the uh the the credit from Arizona State and I don’t want to do that any return early return on tager to Lea um Lea was out I think he was on crutches at the end we’ll have to look at him um and then tiger yeah he was banged up I I don’t know if he what to see um he didn’t come back though and and um yeah that thought that was hard but he’s he’s our he’s our guy our middle linebacker and um you know I thought miles came in and filled in pretty nicely and Son Mo and Ice Mo those guys we have we have a deep group and we’ll have to test the depth a little bit possibly going to this next week how do you keep the guys focus in Wild scenarios like this 15 minute storm the field situation yeah I think it’s just a lot of um lot a lot of talk like we still have a chance you know it’s called a Hail Mary for a reason so it’s just just keep keep focusing and try to find ways to make the play and um just came a couple yards short you know this this is a it was it was such a fun game I know there’s a minute a 15minute break where you had to clear the field but that’s that’s fun and and it’s it’s college football and I that’s why people love it so much when we come back what is trending the headlines are next
