time matchups this includes part of an eight team tournament in Las Vegas getting underway this afternoon and tonight hello Houston and Alabama on the neutral floor these games are at the MGM Grand Garden Arena where they have a lot of famous fights a lot of concerts and some occasional other events like basketball Houston is a fourpoint favorite on the neutral floor total is 150 Jeff this this has got like Elite 8 type game written all over it any thoughts on Houston Alabama here to start us off uh yeah this is a tough game I mean this is a great game on paper but a tough game if you remember I mean one of the teams uh that have beaten Houston the last couple of years is Alabama I want to believe it was I think last season I think I I could be wrong it was a close game early in the season uh and it was terrific um I don’t know I I’m just not interested right now in Alabama they haven’t shot the ball well uh could I see them coming out here and finding a way to hit some shots yeah I’m not banking on it though and Houston is just so hard to break down I mean we know how good defensively they are um uson who I was had a question about has played pretty well he’s not a guy that’s going to score much he’s going to be a top assist R guy you look at his assist rate top 25 in the country so far this group just get Effy they have a bunch of kids that are just long lengthy um and until Alabama starts making some shots I I can’t get too involved with them here we saw when they stepped up and played Purdue um they struggled um this is a great tournament I think this Line’s about where I put it this is not one of the games that I had cired that I think had value I think this is a perfect line I do think one guy that could maybe make a difference in this game Houston generally kind of over ride anything you can do just because they rebound at such a high level on the glass Clif on marui I think is going to be called on to be a big part of this game for the Alabama Tide I I think when when they added him I thought maybe this was something that that could help them and I think he will in this type of game he needs to be good on the glass for them to have a shot here Matt Cox the last time we saw Alabama they beat Illinois in a great made for TV matchup and Mark Sears did not score 0 for six in the game 0 for five from three and they still put a C note up on the board thoughts on Alabama now all the way out in Las Vegas with Houston on a neutral floor yeah coming off that big win against Illinois you this Alabama team is is they they’ve been playing fast but a little bit more I would say controlled um than usually I do feel like there are possessions where they’re not trying to shoot in the first five seconds um and defensively they’ve been really sound as well like I do think this is a more complete team um than people realized I know the metrics portray them as very much an off offensive lopsided lovely as my colleague Kai calls them but I do think they’re a pretty balanced team the worry with Houston I’ll just note is their front line is not healthy um you know Kelvin Samson has talked about this at length like he could not play Terence Arseno uh in the second half of that game against um against Auburn uh both his bigs Roberts and uh Francis are dealing with some injuries as well so I think it’s a very guard driven team and he has good guards uh Milos is starting to come around to you know owning that point guard position but you know I think this Houston team is not vulnerable but I think slightly more vulnerable than we’ve seen them in Prior years right and they were pretty much bulletproof they knew what they were they were fully healthy they were firing all cylinders to start the season this is the first time in a while we’ve seen Houston not look like you know 105 you know power rated team or whatever right I think they do have some flaws um and they could be exposed against big-time competition obviously Jackson State Hoffer and Louisiana are not going to expose any of those flaws they play hard against anybody and that’s why they smash those teams but we’ll see I mean I think it’s an interesting handicap tonight again neutral sight game one of those weird ones where I just think a lot of Randomness happens and I just have no interest in getting involved I am double checking isn’t Rutter’s Notre Dame is the nighttime game right in the bracket am I correct Matt Cox and then Houston play Notre Dame tomorrow and they they do a flip flop so yep so they’ve already determined the flip flop interesting correct the matchups are predetermined yes they’re predetermined on this uh again there’s two there’s two pods and then the winner I think of each pod plays for the championship uh this upcoming weekend so we will rely on you to keep us straight on all of this I just know this too many I there’s a lot of variables here I just know this this should be a fantastic game we’re gonna need extra eyeballs kids tonight because this is going to be going on at the same time as several other intriguing compelling games it is Houston and Alabama it is in Las Vegas again something on the total before we wrap it up anything on that number has that number moved guys total 150 right now on a Tuesday morning I like over I lean over I don’t think Houston’s I think Houston’s a little more Loosey Goosey this year they’re not as uh you know sit down and and execute for 30 seconds now get Alabama Samson might try and really curve it but I do like the over all right good enough their offensive possession L is about a 100 spots faster than last season now again that could be competition uh it could just mean they’re going quicker look Houston’s hitting 49% of their threes right and if Alabama can make some this will probably find it way over um but that’s pretty variant based all right good discussion on that one in Las Vegas [Music]
