welcome to the Samsung Galaxy tactics session and I wanted to pick something out of the big game at anfield where Liverpool took on Man City and beat them 2-0 and you know most you might expect me to pick out intricate football or or systems of play but something struck me in this game that it’s not all about possession it’s not all about short passes it’s not all about kind of intricate buildup play The Long ball was kind of used a lot in this game from both teams and that’s what I want to take a quick look at again not a glamorous topic but something that still happens in the game and I’ll start with Man City because of course there’s so Fame for playing their football but at times the longer ball is a very very effective way and we’ve got a good example here and I want to stop it right before that just to again just draw your attention to the center here and of course Erland Harland and as a Midfield player you know the connection between myself and the front players was so so important at times you had a really good understanding and your front player knows you have an understanding and makes a little run towards a little movement towards to catch out the defender in a balling behind and I think when the player on the on the ball knows that it’s a very effective long ball and let’s see what happens here because it does catch him out Joe Gomez it is for Liverpool there’s the ball coming behind I mean Virgil Van djk was superb in the game and he reads it really really well but it’s a very um good effective tactic similar thing here tiny look up this one it’s is less kind of he sees it straight away and he’s already had a look up there so it’s still on there’s still two Defenders there for Man City but it isn’t always short passes with Man City they do look for this a lot it’s a strength of erand again it’s a little bit too high but it just shows you that even pep doesn’t mind looking for the longer pass but the more effective longer passes were with Liverpool and we know that they’ve got players that can play great long passes and I think any time when you see this guy Trent Alexander Arnold who I got to say is one of the best long passers in the world right now then you know something’s something good could potentially happen again there’s different options here and what you normally see from Liverpool is maybe you know short passes inside to out maybe they look to play inside a little bit but that’s all for one reason the one reason will be at some point can they get the ball in behind for their front players now if you can do that in one pass why not do it it’s right in behind there for moah and what that basically means is when everything shakes out here he’s going to be in here your best player is going to be one-on-one against one defender in The Penalty Box where he’s going to be scared to do anything I mean he doesn’t want to make make a challenge there and you see you know all these Liverpool players they know what’s going to happen the ball comes in and they score the first goal that’s a key moment in the game that comes from a long long play uh from defensively from from Liverpool now this one know you you’re not going to see a better pass than this probably all season long it’s an absolutely incredible pass again there’s other options in there for Liverpool there are ways that you can build up here you might do that you might look to play in here they might look to go from there to there but what ultimately is the idea is at some point you’re playing the ball in behind and again if you can do it in one pass then why not particularly when you Tren Alexander AR look at this ball it’s it’s an incredible ball and it’s going to be the same thing inside the box now he doesn’t quite make that but again that that that’s a a great potential outcome here now this play as we just wind it forward to the goalkeeper this this is going to lead to the second goal the penalty that’s created again this is a little harder for for Keller the goalkeeper the options are there but they’re dangerous options and I think you know of course Liverpool want to play out but at times the goalkeeper plays a long ball another long ball from Liverpool and look what happens now the a good thing is there when he does play The Long ball and this is all in the plan from from slot he knows that they’ll try and play out but at times the ball will go long because of pressure on the goalkeeper there’s forwards up there there’s two front players there putting the pressure on straight away that long ball leads to a mistake and then the Liverpool very very quick to pounce on that and again they get the penalty M makes it 2-0 just the you know direct football sometimes isn’t dead in the game you know there’s a lot of great football that we enjoy but today in that game with those two clubs the long ball was pretty decisive in the end of the match fascinating game and a great win for Liverpool and for Anna slot
