we have lots to talk about in today’s video including elita’s rumors around NHL lots of talk today around New York Rangers plus we have some talk around the Toronto Maple Leafs and their pursuit of how they’ve had to deal with Calgary Flames is there a such thing as a trade living tax when the Flames are concerned plus the latest updates on the JT Miller situation in Vancouver and a crazy rumor involving of gny malcin maybe moving on to go to the Dallas Stars plus we the for nation Faceoff rosters lots of injury updates and more coming up next so welcome back to another video here at Top Shelf Hawk as I mentioned we have lots to talk about here today let’s first get into some of the news before we jump into the rumor mill of course last night we saw an emotional affair between the Calgary Flames and the Columbus Blue Jackets uh was a Blue Jackets first visit to uh to Calgary of course since the passing of Johnny gdo uh so of course you know you know which we’ve seen many times this year already um but we knew it was going to be another night of G being honored we knew his family was going to have a heavy Presence at the game his parents were there his wife children uh and many other family members made the uh the long uh trip to Calgary to be a part of it the Flames did a beautiful job at honoring uh gdo um not too many dry eyes in the in the crowd um you know the ceremonial face off with his parents there and Shan Monahan taking the the draw for the jackets and Captain Michael backin on the other side and um at end of the night of course course the Flames win the game and they announced Johnny gdo as first star the Flames got all three stars it was uh backlin Anderson and then they gave the first start to Gad dra which it was his dad gee came out um just tremendous Ovation very well done gigo was around the team a lot um went on the ice with them for practice uh he and his wife Jane did a nice interview uh with Ryan Leslie who was uh perfect for that situation and knew the G family very well uh during the first intermission Johnny’s wife Meredith did a pregame interview it was just very well done extremely um I guess emotional night Ryan Leslie for his interviews like he he just the perfect guy uh for that role I know uh he had a good relationship with with Johnny and dealt a lot with them and even was the only one I think to get an interview at a Calgary media after gdo decided to sign in Columbus as well so an extremely like I said Well Done evening another great of honoring Johnny and U you know the impact he had on the game certainly far-reaching and you could just go to show like the you know the effect of everything and still lots of people that are you know still hurting um and still emotionally grieving which is going to take some time and you know some of these people that are super close to him like his friends family and wife I don’t know if you ever really get over that it’s such a tough night but and just at the same time it does make them feel good I think to some degree just to see how much he was loved and and to see how much effect and impact he had on so many people’s lives so it was a great night watching uh watching the flames in the Blue Jackets battle in the the goodro um you know honoring of him uh with the family president it was a wonderful night uh another retired player no more news today with another former NHL player announcing his retirement uh former first round pick in the 2010 draft uh with the Red Wings Riley shahan who spent the first seven eight years of his career with Detroits officially announced his retirement after playing 637 NHL games of course he’s under the NHL for a little while now after his uh career ended in Detroit he went on and bounced around and kind of became a little bit of a journeyman player uh playing with several other teams before eventually uh calling her quit so good luck to Raley shahan with whatever comes next uh some pretty big injury updates a few quick ones first in Calgary uh Justin Kirkland uh who is uh a pretty young player for that looks to have a bright future unfortunately his season is over uh he had a a serious ACL injury that required surgery and that’s a long really long recovery from that so we won’t be seeing Justin Kirkland anymore this year unfortunately Vancouver they’ve returned Max assassin to the American Hockey League uh the Minnesota Wild got hit hard with a slew of injuries they’ve announced that yonas Brodin is weak to week uh um Eric Sak is week to week and zukar also week to week with Jacob laa also injured considered day to day um they’ve done a pretty good job obviously the highest ranked team in the NL right now and they’ve done a good job of battling through some adversity this year but this is a lot so far at one time so we’ll see how they continue to uh to play uh and how they continue to deal with this in Los Angeles um Darcy camper has uh ready to roll so he’s been activated goalie Eric Portillo returned to the American Hockey League uh in Anaheim defense Cam Fowler who’s been in a rumor mill for somebody who’s um expected to be traded this year um has been under of the lineup for a while dealing with an injury so he’s back so of course that’ll help things when it comes to not only uh the Ducks being better on the back end but also will help you know create more of a buzz around him and his availability uh so that’s good to see and in Dallas significant injury update on Tyler San um he’s basically going to have to get his hip redone again uh he’s going to be looking at a four to 6 month recovery now many people are saying that the team and general manager Jim nil and everybody involved here kind of knew this was coming uh it sounds like it’s been something that Tyler’s been dealing with uh for a while and they all the post make it sound like he was trying to play through it and whatever and I’m sure that’s the case but some people are saying that it’s extremely you know timed so that he can be back for playoffs he could play with try to play through it and be back so that they can basically they can maximize their salary cap situation and get the long-term injury relief cuz at this point it would almost time out pretty close to being perfect for a you know first round availability for Tyler San and dollar stars are linked to another interesting name that we’re going to look at here a little bit and regardless if it’s that person or not um I expect Dallas to fully utilize Sean’s availability of a salary cap and LTA and add another star player and be that much deeper come playoff time I mean really they’d be crazy not to every other team with the option does it so why shouldn’t they um as I mentioned as well we got the four Nation Faceoff uh rosters tonight and this this afternoon this evening I do have a dedicated video on the channel uh regarding that so I’m not going to go too deep into analyzing them but certainly some interesting uh names on these rosters uh the European teams look pretty deep pretty solid uh good Defenders great goal ending uh the American and Canadian teams had a couple old missions each that I think were pretty uh interesting the Americans opted to go with guys like Vinnie troak and Brock Nelson Chris Cryder who may not be having the greatest Seasons um obviously they have history with USA hockey and you know they’ve been good players throughout their careers it’s not that they’re not good players I just thought they might go with you know more like a Clayton Keller or a Tage Thompson or a Cole Coffield somebody who’s you know having an excellent season so to speak they they have uh I think it’s 10 out of 12 forwards or maybe it’s 11 out of 13 uh are left shot too they hardly have any right shot forwards a guy like coffields a right shot right up near the top of the NHL and scoring goals um I thought at the very least he’d get a shot as a 13th forward but not so much and in Canada um Seth Jarvis made the team he was a little bit of a surprise I mean he’s a great player um you know but I thought they might go with player like a Conor Bard or maybe even Cabrini as a 13th forward to try to you know get them some senior level International experience because they are expected to be big parts of Team Canada down the road uh as early as 2026 for the U Olympics so uh we’ll see obviously some of the players on these rosters a lot of them will probably be on the Olympic teams there’s a few though especially because of their age and where they’re at in their careers I would say you know might not be but obviously some of these teams are like the US for example they’re an older team but they’re clearly um going to win and not worrying about you know developing or experience or anything about the future they trying to win now um interesting strategy but all teams look all the all the rosters look really good uh like I said definitely a few question marks here and there and if I were the GMS I might have been done a little bit different but you know obviously there’s a reason why uh I’m sitting here making videos and I’m not an NHL general manager so uh we’ll see where things going out front and be curious to to see how things play out but it should be a fun tournament and we’re looking forward to it of course there could be Replacements as well cuz any players that are injured um are able to be replaced right up until the time the uh tournament starts so we could see a little bit of that now in the rumor mill all kinds of stuff uh let’s start with the New York Rangers of course we know the Rangers have been a Hot Topic around the league for the past probably week almost two weeks now uh after like said the Chris jury had put out a note to the other GMS indicating that trouba and crder were available and they were looking to shake things up which Elliot Freeman had reported on and it’s been um bit of a media circuits around this team ever since a new athletic article from writer Peter B today that I was looking at basically says in his opinion um that there’s really only two players he’d Mark as Untouchable and that’s uh Fox and lafer so we already know uh that trouba and kryder were made available now Savannah Jad you know has a full no move clause the other two guys have a modified so you know tough to move him but you know we’ve heard a lot about kappal cako kandre Miller Ryan lingren you know there’s some debate over you know is eor shurkin going to resign um you know obviously that’s a tough one I don’t know that they would be really be able to trade eigor it’s not that I mean I’m sure there’s 31 other teams that would love to have him but I don’t know that there’s 31 teams that want to pay him what he wants on his next contract and what’s the point of giving up a bunch of assets for him if it’s just for this year right the the request for a trade would be massive and I just don’t see how anybody could really pull that off and justify it so it’s kind of difficult to say there’s some Rumblings too about you know could there be a coaching change they came across one article I think it was Marco Deo of r.com uh saying that he he’s been told that you know Lavette is not going to be fired like you know super quick here but not going to be given too much more time to get things turned around and there was some talk about Coach Joe quinnville being a potential replacement now Larry Brooks who’s a well-connected Rangers reporter uh for the New York um post he denied those reports and doesn’t think that quinnville is in the mix or will be in the mix if they do make a change and doesn’t seem to think that lavette’s in super trouble right now so um conflicting reports but I I probably probably think that delivery Brooks reports more accurate if I had to to say one of them might have might be more accurate than the other I would pick him he’s been longer connected to that team than the other guys um but yeah as far as trades go to New York like it’s really hard to say what we’re going to see uh I don’t know that we’re going to as much as I think the team would be interested to it like Peter B’s article talks about trouba and Cryder trades he thinks it’s possible that we could see them uh one or the other or both moved but they’re more likely to happen in the off season I agree with that teams have more flexibility we know that the Rangers were trying hard to move trouba this past summer and it never came to be I think everything was lined up to send them to the Red Wings um and I think it could happen next summer so I mean those big deals would be more likely then um but you know talks about how Koo and kandre Miller might be some of the younger pieces that they would be willing to move they both are going to need new contracts here soon uh as well uh it’s not a given that they’d be gone they’d have to find a way to bring in a big upgrade of course right we know that the Rangers have been pretty hard after JT Miller but now reports out of Vancouver today Jim Rutherford kind of had a I don’t know what you want to call it but a pretty cranky response uh to Vancouver media asking for uh comments on the rumors that were floating around about Miller wanting out um and he denies them wholeheartedly and says we’re not trading them we stand by him which I’m like okay well the rumors weren’t that the Vancouver connects were looking to trade J Miller the rumors were that part of Miller’s request away from the team is that he may want to be moved I mean there’s a big difference there and you know obviously Vancouver is denying it I’m not surprised um again like I said before with Miller um I I the reports that we talked about I I said full disclosure like you know we can’t confirm 100% he wants out but there are some people with sources that say that he does so so again I um at this point we know the conects are denying it and that’s really all we can do uh until we get re you know s any other sources suggesting that um that they are indeed true then we’ll see I would suspect that um you’d hope that Miller would be back soon I mean I know he there’s even been some media been a little bit critical of him as well being away from the team in a critical time but uh we don’t really know 100% what he’s going through either so it it’s really you know tough to uh to really analyze the reasons when you don’t really know the whole situation because obviously that’s all kept private but uh at this point we can say that the cans deny wholeheartedly that Miller wants to be moved or that they’re going to move them is what the words of Jim Rutherford so we’ll see how that goes and you know whether or not Miller the Rangers may need a new Target and obviously there’s lots of players uh that could be moved according to Peter ball that I think that there’s not too many things that Chris jury would be open to if he feels it makes his team better now uh I want talk about Toronto a little bit as well of course Jeff Merck’s new show the sheets been interesting here this week the last few days uh today he was talking again about how the Leafs uh probably want to add down the middle sometime later in this season ahead of the playoffs and that you know he’s he’s talked a few times how he feels that nazam Cadre is like the perfect fit great reunion like he’d be the ideal guy to go back there and what have you and today he was talking about how he feels that with the Calgary Flames have what he refers to as a trade living tax we know that the Leafs and Brader living tried to trade for tanv and zadorov ideally as a package or at least get one of them or something with the Flames last season well ahead of the deadline when it was made clear that the the Flames were going into Cell mode and Chris or Craig Conor right wouldn’t um wouldn’t really give the Leafs much of a deal at all like they they really didn’t want to trade them to trit Tonto uh they were kind of extorting a significant price inflation on the leaves compared to other teams and at the end of the day they sent both players elsewhere and what America is saying is that we know how things went down uh in Calgary that BR really been kind of left on I can’t say like awkward terms but some I guess in Calgary they feels like there’s bad blood and that uh they didn’t like how things went down and he abruptly resigned and some kind of hold that against him still and there’s like I said there’s some bad blood there so for Cadre to go to Toronto for for one it’s going to be complicated because of the cap for number two um you know it sounds like the Leafs would have to highly overpay over any other team uh he also went on to say he wonders though if the Leafs were making a a good deal and set up to the Flames to be in a better cap situation and get some good onsets and really help the team get better would he really turn it down but at the end of the day if he wants to trade Cadre and that gets known that Cadre is available there’s going to be several teams trying to get in on that and again he’s probably going to make trade living overpay you would think right uh but I know kre has some trade protection too so he’s going to have a saying where he goes and it was believed last summer that for a while at least conri was considered available by the Flames they were willing to move him for the right deal and that he was willing to go to the Leafs uh as a reunion at that point but again you know lots of term and money left on this contract hard to say but regardless if his codre or somebody else has mirac on to something that they kind of consider having a trade living tax and it’s going to make uh you know the Leafs very difficult to deal with Calgary uh because obviously there’s been a lot of other players between last year and this year that they obviously like and may have a difficult time getting u a deal done now as I mentioned as well another crazy rumor come out of nowhere today didn’t see coming but cam Robertson uh Robinson sorry uh who mainly works in the prospect World he’s more more of a uh uh Prospect Guru um put out a video saying that he’s had a rumor that he’s kind of been sitting on for a little while that obviously a trusted source of his that says that there’s a possibility we could see abgh malcin traded to the Dallas Stars sometime before the NHL trade deadline now uh basically the reason he decided to come up with it now is because the announcement of Tyler San’s injury opens up the door from a cap PA space perspective to allow to make a move like that and not really have to move out anything MoneyWise now of course gny malcin if he were to be treated the penguins are going to want a big return there’s no doubt but at least you know they could be it could be Futures based right it could wouldn’t have to worry about from a cap perspective what’s coming off the cap going the other way it could be you know whatever right as long as Pittsburgh’s happy Dallas could absorb it because of the LTI availability of Tyler s’s N9 plus million do contract so so you know he says that this has been something that has been discussed for a while and that it’s you know could be something that we see now like he said though he said it gets complicated cuz for one you know malcin has to agree to it number two uh they have to figure out a trade package he mentions you could Kyle DUIs try to pry out one of the top young players from Dallas would they have any chance to get a Thomas Harley or Logan stankoven or Wyatt Johnson and I’m going to say no no and no there’s no way Dallas moves one of those players now would they be interested in Mal I can see why not he’s a proven playoff performer three-time Cup champion like sure if you if you could figure out a way to add malcin to your playoff roster why wouldn’t you but like I said I don’t know for sure that he wants to there’s been a lot of talked with Pittsburgh being so low to standings and I know that most reporters would say Crosby lat tang and Malon don’t want to go anywhere and I think they’re all accepting the fact that they they probably are going to stay but we’ve heard reports about lat Tang multiple times from multiple sources that he would be willing to take a trade now he might be picking where he goes that would be expected but that he’s willing now we don’t know that about malcin we’ve all we’ve ever heard malcin or Crosby say is they’ve signed in Pittsburgh and they’re quite content to write it out and stay with their friends and you know they understand that it is what it is now this is a completely different scenario where we don’t really know how malcol would feel about this but could the losing this year if it doesn’t get any better and they near the bottom of the Eastern standings would there be a change of heart would malcol of theang or even Crosby for that matter reconsider uh I mean I know there’s lots of teams we’ we’ve heard lots of not not even rumors but like just you know people talking about gez what would it take to get Crosby to come here would he consider leaving after the frustrating of you know frustrations of losing so much and you don’t know that he would but would malcin like you know I I’m not sure obviously the sources for cam Robinson on this deal um so we can’t really say How likely it is but I mean I would say that for one um if if Pittsburgh is going to want a big return they’re not going to get as much as you think for one no way Dallas moves off one of those top young players now would they move somebody who’s not as important to the roster right now maybe like a Bor or a bishell first round pick other Prospect you know um you know something along those lines you know they could still get some decent stuff coming back but it’s not going to be that great a you know established top young player I just don’t see how Dallas really gets better in the short and long term by doing that so it’s an interesting rumor uh Pittsburgh is going to be a team to watch I do expector to be more chatter around these guys uh just because they’re not used to losing and as much as they’ve all kind of committed to sticking it out you got to think it’s going to take its toll on them and secondly you have to think that at some point if Kyle dubis gets a a trade offer that’s intriguing enough he’s going to have to no choice but to have a conversation with him and say like hey is there any way you would want to consider this right so I mean that’s kind of how Robinson breaks it down in his video he’s like you know first up he’s like you know basically that Dallas has been you know very much interested in in malcin uh obviously he says you know malcin would have to agree to it which we don’t know if he would uh DUIs would have to have a package that he really likes to take it to malcol to see if he get his approval or not and then you know has to work from a cap perspective too which I think would be easy to be honest so you know interesting thing to think about it’s probably pretty unlikely um and like I said if for any reason you know Penguins fans are looking at that going gez we could get a really good young player to really retool this team if malcol was willing to go I don’t think so I really don’t there’s Dallas do not become better that way right so you know does a Maverick Bourg or lean bishell make you better maybe but I mean not really enough to move the needle in my opinion now you get a first round pick back it’s going to be a late first-rounder I just don’t see how they could win that deal so to me I mean if you want to do right by malcol if he wants to go and you you know you have an to get something back okay but I don’t know that you really get better it’s a tough thing to to do and I I just don’t it’s it’s a fun thing to think about you know obviously it’s a juicy rumor so we’re going to talk about it but like I don’t really think it has any chance of happening but you know if malcin wants it to happen it’ll happen but it might not
