immediately on the video I made um was a lot of people saying boy did the Red Sox overpay um right now I don’t think the Red Sox overpaid I don’t think it was an overpay I don’t I don’t and I I I genuinely I don’t see how people are saying it’s an overpay um I don’t right like you can love a prospect and you can love Kyle teal you can’t sit there and tell me that he was worth more than Garrett crochet I I just it just doesn’t make any sense right um and even even if you want to do the whole um even if you want to do the whole baseball trade values thing which I know people don’t love but even if you want to do that it’s basically a dead even trade it it really is I I think wiking Gonzalez is the is the thing that pushes it slightly over the edge I’m going to pull it up on screen just so people could take a look at it um but we we knew we knew Garett crochet was going to be worse something heavy we knew it was going to be worth something heavy right that was the assumption that I think everyone was playing Under The Hope was that you didn’t have to give up a top four I mean clearly you had to give up a top four to get him I don’t I people say it was a panic move yeah but I also think it was a successful Panic move is the wrong word I think it was a um so here’s what it looks like oops cancel here’s what it looks like on where is it there we go baseball trade value so it’s it’s pretty much dead even right I I mean again if you take out Wickman Gonzalez it is dead even basically um I don’t think the Red Sox the thing is I think Red Sox fans if if the Red Sox aren’t totally winning a trade I think they say it’s an overpack I look at it I look at it and I say you you can you could do a trade you could do a trade and it work out for both sides and it not being overpay right I I just like it doesn’t you don’t have to win a trade for it to be successful and I think that’s what we saw in this trade I think you saw both sides get what you wanted right you saw both Ides get what we wanted now but but I don’t think it was a huge Panic move I think they were motivated I think there’s a difference between being motivated and being panicked I don’t I genuinely don’t think the Red Sox were panicked in these trades Christian thank you so much for becoming a member of the channel my friend I really appreciate you right I do think a lot of this I do think a lot of this is going to depend on whether or not they go in there and they lock him up they should have given something else but the problem with that versatility is from what we’ve heard the Mets had a pretty good offer on the table and the uh White Socks wanted teal or nobody from the Red Sox so you had to sit there right you had to decide is it worth it to give up teal I don’t know right I we don’t know what it’s going to look like we didn’t know what the sale trade was going to look like we didn’t know what the Becket trade was going to look like right I just and those guys were more proven for sure sure by the time you trade for them I think that’s a big part of this right they were they were more proven they were more proven when you trade for him so so it’s tough to fully compare those two people but I think looking at this looking at everything you know what the market was telling us what everything was telling us especially if they if they lock him up on a four five six year deal I think this is absolutely worth it now that’s a big caveat right but we know Garrett crochet is open to a trade we know he’s open to a trade trade I’m sorry we know he’s open to an extension so if they get if they could get those in I think this is a fantastic deal the the the problem I think people have is is with Conor Wong right I think that’s kind of it right if they had a better catchup on the dish I don’t think people would be as upset I don’t think people would be saying as many as much overpay on this as we’ve been seeing but because they don’t have we don’t have Connor an adequate catcher right now everyone immediately goes silver pay the amount that the white sock wanted reportedly at the end of the season was a Bru arus and another player now it’s three top right I I don’t know I think I I think at this point right if the Red Sox aren’t going to spend money which we talked about this morning and it’s unbelievably frustrating how you can’t sit there and say Mont gy is your best Prospect you can’t with with like that’s just objectively untrue he has a high ceiling sh but Roman Anthony and Marcel me are I think clearly the better prospects I think clearly right I I don’t know like like Christian Campbell too I think is up there as well Ming dude you can’t spam stuff I’m trying to we’re trying to get to everything can’t spam stuff like this if asked about Alex bregman I so I’ve kind of talked myself into not hating so I don’t particularly love Alex I don’t particularly love the idea of Alex bregman I don’t I don’t hate it I don’t hate it and I’ll I’ll tell you why because I I think if he’s coming in to play second base specifically which is which it makes things very very interesting but if he’s coming in to play second base specifically which I do think would be where he’d come in not as a long-term solution because people are immediately going to say oh that blocks Christian Campbell that blocks Marcel Meyer and if he’s staying there for six six years or whatever the contract is yes but here’s why I think I like Alex bregman what it allows you to do as a team is to immediately fix the right-hand problem right it immediately lets you fix that right-handed problem and we can have an argument about whether or not whether or not he’s a productive bat still I still think he’s a productive bat yeah you’re wrong Eric teal teal for or or casus for uh for Castillo straight up is a terrible trait uh um so people are going to sit there they’re going to say Corbin why would we do that why would we block Alex bregman right or why would we block Christian Campbell why would we block Von Gom well here’s the answer it’s because it wouldn’t be a six-year second based solution it wouldn’t be it would be a year to a halfe solution Christian Campbell can play Left Field if the Red Sox don’t want to add in a left fielder which okay fine you get bregman it solves your right-handed problem you could put Christian Campbell I think pretty safe l in left field he was a solid defensive outfielder during the 2024 season in minor league baseball he was I wouldn’t say he was incredible or anything but he’s definitely good enough to play Left Field especially at Fenway Park maybe you move San Rafael into a utility role for a little bit right he could definitely do that you’re paying him already you don’t need to worry about his value or anything then you have an outfield of Campbell Duran and uh Roman Anthony at some point over the 2025 season okay so you still have second base blocked up here well after or even during the 2025 season if you can get to the deadline is there a way that you can flip Masa because if you can flip Masa all of a sudden boom bregman becomes your third Bas and Des becomes your DH Christian Campbell Von Grom whoever you want goes into that second base slot and that’s your infield for the next six years I think that’s a really really solid infield even if it doesn’t work out at the deadline Masa builds himself up some value during the 2025 season boom you could trade him after the season right so I if they’re bringing in uh if they’re bringing in Alex bregman for 2025 it’s not to be a full-time second baseman for the entirety of his contract at least in my opinion so I think that’s a little bit of a different conversation I I I just think that it becomes a different conversation because I think you can make it work what does the crochet deal mean for prer I don’t think it changed a whole lot for prer I think prester was always going to start in Triple A there was still stuff he need to work on there was still stuff that he needed to work on before he got to Major League Baseball so uh yeah jiren Ren’s Untouchable DX um so I think he’s still staying in the minor leagues regardless and I think he becomes sort of I would put prer above fits in terms of your depth in terms of at least impact depth is there a world I don’t know is there hit the Red Sox took in this deal in terms of their overall farm system ranking is how guys like Arius and CPUs nazan zanello how the pitchers right Payton tulle all those other people develop over it up a little bit and was back to his normal strikeout rate by the end of the year but if you take a look at the baseball Savon here the only things that have gone down in this right here is the strikeout rate he’s still getting a lot of swing and Miss he’s still getting a ton of pitches outside of the Zone he’s really doing well at limiting hard contact he did fantastically at limiting hard contact he’s upped his ground ball rate a bit the expected erra is fantastic right the fastball vo still really solid compared to 2023 right and he actually improved this year in I would say most categories right he certainly improved I I I don’t know so I sit here and I say well is it really regression with Corbin Burns or is it something the Red Sox can tweak show the difference between 21 and 24 I mean yeah 21 was the year he won the Sai Young right 22 23 and then 24 which again I you sort of see a dip here in 22 and 23 especially from 21 right but 21 was his Sai Young year so I don’t know I I sit here and and I don’t think there’s a crazy amount of aggression here I I I just I don’t know I I don’t but I also don’t don’t don’t know why we’re sitting here saying oh Max freed Max freed was worth all the money but Burns isn’t worth all the money right because Burns had had better statistics this year than than freed Lefty but but sure okay so but now you have the Lefty right than that 2014 2015 they could have signed Xander to a super long-term deal I agree they probably could have and they probably should have but again that was 10 years ago that was an entirely different line of thinking that was an entirely different group in this front office recently no e that’s not right you’re getting your facts mixed up here um but they signed those guys as prospects into a corner because of who they messed up before that which which one of the Red Sox recently extended players got market value like you’re talking about that freed is that you expect crochet to get any team anyone who’s been truly they just got Jeron um they got Jackson T too or however you say it for like what 90 million he’s going to be worth way more than that Corbin Carrol is going to be worth way more than that even the B Bobby Wood Jr contract that was signed recently he’s going to be worth more than that so you sit there you sit there and you say well these guys were were legitimately proven some of these guys didn’t even touch majorly baseball and they didn’t get market value why would crochet all of a sudden be the one dude who gets True Market Value all all of a sudden he’s not going to take a discount to to have stability that’s why people sign these contracts it’s why young players are signing extensions because they want that stability if he’s been open to an extension this entire time with whatever team he was traded to H how how are we all of a sudden jumping to no no no he didn’t refuse to pitch for a contender e what’s my number for crochet I’d put it like let’s say like 115 to 150 range for five years that’s that’s a three that’s a $30 million player is it not for let’s let’s say seven years seven years it it increases go from 10 to 30 over that time span like they did with beo with an opt out after five I think absolutely he signs that deal absolutely you get around 24 a year I don’t know like you could sit there and you could you could real quick all right so let’s say it’s a seven-year deal right starts at 10 for the first year and then it jumps up to 15 15 for the next two years and then you get up to 20 20 now you’re at five uh let’s do 20 25 30 30 what’s that 1 2 3 4 five six seven years okay 10 and 15’s 25 plus another that’s 40 60 885 85 plus 60 145 145 I think gets it done what’s up Harrison yeah I’m pumped about it too I I think I’m in the 145 range for a seven-year deal but either way guys I I can’t I can’t make any more arguments about this is all I can do right this this there’s only so much I can say about this but either way I think today was a good day I think today was a good day Red Sox made their first legitimate move they’ve made it I think legitimately he gets North to 150 okay we’ll see I mean if normal thing for him to do we don’t see it a ton but I don’t think it’s a bad thing for someone to do especially coming off at Tommy John and with the history he’s had I just don’t and a backup
