[Music] well nordan played with plenty of violence and hammered Army but we are moving on to USC because all the marbles are on the line here for an our Dame I’m Tim prer with Tim Melly joined by John Bryce and this is the instant analysis is sponsored by RV manufactured housing Hall of Fame in alcart Indiana USC I know a lot of people are looking at this right record at six and five and saying it’s not a very good football team they won three of the last four their lone loss at home uh was in overtime to Penn State they’ve been leading in the fourth quarter of every game they’ve lost five games by a total of 19 points this is a talented USC football team that hasn’t known how to close most of the year yeah it’s uh this is one of those situations where I think Marcus freem is gonna have no trouble explaining how how good USC can be to his team but I think that not to switch topics on you but the way he ended it saying I still feel the pain from that last loss out at USC he looked like he felt the pain of that last loss out at USC John Bryce asked about the talent of this roster and he mentioned we had dudes then too I remember what it was like to leave that place he said I don’t care if you’re were here or not you’re going to feel my pain from that loss in 2022 that is not something I expected today and there’s plenty to go around because USC has look they’ve been in the top 12 to 15 to 20 in offensive fbii rankings all season long defense has not gone below 30 37 there’s plenty of talent and they’ve played well they’ve lost while playing well yeah I think that’s a a great point and to yours on Marcus Freeman and and we all asked questions sort of along those lines I thought it was telling that he went ahead and said he’s already seen some video of that 2022 game he didn’t outright say that it was playing everywhere in the complex but it sounded like that 2022 season finale inside the Coliseum is on video screens in and around the goo it sounded like he covered up that it was playing all over the complex actually I think I got some water in front of a TV exactly that and and he did not note that um they had some dudes then but there’s no question this is a deeper faster Notre Dame uh roster on both sides of the football we keep seeing Jeremiah Love run away from defenses we keep seeing offenses incapable of running away from Notre Dame’s defense I think that’s significant I know we’re going to break down this match up more over the course of of this inant analysis and podcast to come but I do think this is again a focus Notre Dame team we talked about how much they needed to start fast what was an ideal start for them against Army was getting Army’s offense off the field whenever it got its first possession and getting a quick score Notre Dame did exactly that I I keep harping on it this is a mature purpose-filled football team I don’t think there’s any doubt that Notre Dame is going to be focused for this game I think this team this coaching staff these players are beyond that they know what’s at stake here with USC now Freeman was asked about close games Nord him hasn’t been involved in a close game since September 28th against Louisville but again they’re so they’re focused on on the matter at hand I don’t think that’s an issue if they get into the fourth quarter USC’s very familiar with close games every game every one of their games pretty much has been a a close game Nord AES hasn’t this is Game 12 they know what’s at stake I I think that’s the least of Nord Dame’s concerns I thought that was Marcus Freeman’s second best answer today I’m going to steal from Tim prer he said that might have been his best press conference but Marcus Freeman said we don’t we don’t have the game pressure of close games we have we put game pressure on our players throughout the game on every single play that’s why the games aren’t close it’s a close game when it’s z0 and it’s 7 nothing it matters when you go up 14 to nothing and 21 to 7 he says every single play they play Under Pressure that’s how we coach that’s how they play so we haven’t had close games but that’s the only reason why I don’t think he worries about game pressure obviously when you get in the final minute you worry about game pressure because USC is super happy to be down 10 points with 15 minutes too where Notre Dame has to put it away John he said I want to win every freaking play and and again Tim you talk about you believed it when he said it I mean you can see that that’s what’s happening well and that was a glimpse and we’ve all heard some stories but I love hearing kind of the behind the-scenes stories of how insanely competitive Marcus Freeman is and he showed a bit of that today when he talks about wanting his guys to win every single play and it’s not just winning every single play he wants them to win all 11 individual matchups on every single play I think that bleeds through the program I think we’ve seen all the way going back to that tunnel scene at Texas A&M and in week one his aggression his ability to JW the Texas A&M fans to send a message to his team I’ve said it I’ll continue to say it I think understandably this is the best job that Marcus Freeman has done having the pulse of his team yeah they do share a tunnel just pointing that out by the way for personal interest in USC they do share tunnel they will come out of the same tunnel let’s jump into the injuries Howard Cross the third still list as questionable I don’t think that any of us are surprised by that we talked about it when he was injured that he could very well be out for the the of the regular season I would imagine he’d be dressed for this game as opposed to the last two games he can’t go he’ll be dressed for yeah just in case now Kingston Ville yuasa is out he has a knee sprain which sounds really promising that would would indicate to me that come playoff time KVA will be ready to go uh bod kahoun we saw him get injured he had a lower body injury late in the game and earlier in the week KK Smith wide receiver suffered a broken collar bone and uh and he had surgery but other than that this looks like a very healthy team going into the biggest game of the year and that was my question to Jeremiah Love and I didn’t get to ask Marcus this postgame it was very it was intentional for the running backs obviously that Jeremiah Love not carried the ball that often jarian price not carry the ball that often the offense is very healthy going in they have pulled back on Riley Leonard I asked that question around week five like can you really keep running Leonard this way they said yes they have not done it which is a really good idea and Drew men mentioned something to me he actually asked Jeremiah love I don’t know if it was early August or late spring about workload and sharing carries with jarian price because was obviously going to happen and love said I don’t want a heavy workload he’s the modern running back he knows what a not heavy workload means to his future and his his November his December and his future I think that’s part of the deal I think Jeremiah Love and jarian price are just going to be better off for the next five years because they haven’t had that workload I think running backs today’s modern day running back H has to understand that yeah I I wish we had access to the uh the GPS data points or the Catapult system to see but I bet you Jeremiah Love was as fast on his final carry as he was on his first Carry and that’s again due to load management that’s due to the sports science that Marcus Freeman has invested heavily in it’s why he went out and got Lauren Lando you’ve made some excellent points on how that’s worked out TP and and there is a science behind it Notre Dame believes in the science and I think they have a rested refreshed football team especially the way that the by weeks fell uh as they get here to the end of the regular season and then are poised for a 3-we break or 20 days likely before they would host a playoff game 14 snaps Jeremiah love in that game is it the most effective 14 snaps in football history 14 his last touch was the first play of the third quarter the 68 yard run now nordan fans were concerned about two main things coming out of the army game the goal line standby Army where Mike Den Brock just kept slamming power into the line and it didn’t work uh and and Marcus Freeman said they didn’t get another opportunity in that situation in that game but they had made Corrections in order to deal with it and of course course Mitch Jeter who who was wide r on his 48 yard field goal attempt the 30 yard attempt was not his fault whatsoever Marcus Freeman spoke with a lot of confidence that Mitch Jeter is is healthy and ready to go the question was posed is it in his head or is it a mental issue he didn’t go there he has a lot of confidence in MIT jeters ready to make a big kick in the LA Coliseum I want to seed my time to John Bryce because I know what he’s going to say on this one I believe him about the uh offensive line in the in the goal line experience I do not believe the situation that he’s more convinced than Mitch Jeter’s ready after that kick go ahead JB he made it he was he emphasized was adamant today he was very encouraged by Mitch Jeter’s 48 yard Miss field goal because of what he saw and the leg strength I still contend you have to see Mitch Jeter make a meaningful field goal Saturday afternoon in inside the Coliseum or otherwise it will have been approximately eight if not nine weeks since Mitch Jeter would have made a meaningful field goal before the playoff game no doubt you you you definitely want to see that the 30 Yer and we’ve had some PE it’s actually going to be in our podcast we’ve had some people ask about it he he Jeter had no chance right mzi came through a through a hole that was I think it was the a gap to the left of the center I mean there was nothing Jeter could do about that it was a great press conference we have more to talk about we’re going to hit it all in in today’s Irish illustr Insider this has been Irish illust trad’s ins analysis brought to you by RV manufactured housing Hall of Fame in Elkart Indiana [Music]
