but then it gets you to think okay well we’re still in that mode of we got to you know shed some not couch space but contracts to bring some more in who are the people that we don’t want to yeah so then in that in our next topic here kind of just want to get into who is Untouchable and I think this is a pretty short list for me Mitch um I would say it’s honestly three roster players and four people in total if you want to include a prospect oh okay so you got barzal soken Horvat Eiserman correct those are my four okay I’m basically I’m the three and then I wish I flipflop on Noah Dobson the offer has to be to such an extent where I would be dumb not to trade him yeah and that’s that’s why I left him off is because I am open to the idea of trading him and like I’ve said that before on the show I think it’s it’s easier in theory than in practice is what I’ve come to realize um and Dobson’s played better too so maybe that’s part of the reason why I’ve become a little bit more wishy-washy on that subject but uh at the end of the day still I think it’s likely that he stays um so you could make the case to to put him on this list but like I’m not hearing that name and immediately hanging up the phone I’m saying all right what do you got kind of thing yeah absolutely I’m listening to the offer I think the big problem for me when it comes to Noah Dobson is not only what can we get back it’s how do we replace that because we we you can make Ryan poock your number one guy but he is 30 years old going on 31 isn’t he no he just turned 30 in October so we’re good for a while here but still 31 years old this this can fall off at any time uh not it’s not as bad as someone like let’s say Andrew Lee who’s 34 and plays a power forward role but after Ryan Pollock where’s your right-handed depth Scott Mayfield holy [ __ ] that fell off a cliff real fast yeah and poock unfortunately has gotten banged up a little bit over the years too yeah and Mayfield was not good today I didn’t think no God no but also too with poock I don’t think he’s a number one or top not number one but a top pairing guy at this point in his career I think he’s a a solid second pair guy yeah he’s Ryan mcdunn going to the Tampa Bay Lightning like and allowing them to become cup compe competitors or Champions even twice yeah adding him you took a top pair guy on on no longer a a championship caliber team and put him on your second pair and that just opened things up they exploded because you put someone where he was supposed to be and that that’s Ryan poock right now I have uh slightly off topic but while we’re talking pulock I I have a take that I want to share with you okay fire away I think I like Romanov Pak as the second pair I know we’ve talked I know we’ve talked a lot of Romanov Dobson but George Dobson’s growing on me with Romanov Paka as a second pair yeah I didn’t think I’d like George Dobson as much as I do right now um George still has some Kinks you saw it today the few decisions that he’s like the Dober too obviously um but if they figure it out their ability to move just physically move yeah is insane and then these other two guys shot it down that they’re just so solid together um yeah I I think that’s not as spicy it shouldn’t be as spicy someone hearing that shouldn’t be like oh that’s a hot take it’s I don’t think it is I think it’s a very sensible take yeah and I didn’t mean it as like this is going to be like some bombshell take here get ready but I just because we’ve talked a lot about Romanov being staple to Dobson side but I I think it’s working right now what the what the Islanders are doing at least with those two guys they have third pair is kind of in shambles right now with Mayfield and the rotating cast of chowski and Grant Hutton um yeah maybe pelet could stabilize Mayfield but that might be a little bit optimistic may may it might and that that would be okay right if you’re getting Adam pelic to play 18 to 20 minutes maybe you’re getting the best out of Adam pelic we’ve talked about it before and other people as well have mentioned you know sometimes less is more specifically with Noah doson today was a good example that 1840 for Noah Dobson and he was good to to assist right you don’t have to stress him out and then when it comes to putting him into high stress situations he’s not tired so he can make those decisions appropriately um so maybe bringing in someone that got impelled or not even bringing in but coming back from injury allows you to play him 18 minutes and maybe even 17 to 18 minutes a night um because you’re you’re playing Adam pelic 16 to 18 minutes instead of Dennis chowski at 12 it just it allows you to do a lot more and you don’t have to worry about your third pair and also granted this is a completely different Decor than in the years I’m about to reference but when the Islanders were at their best they weren’t running out one specific pair for like 24 minutes a night it was everyone was pretty much 18 to 20 minutes a night yeah balance if if you’ve got proper balance within your lineup you you can unlock a whole lot more of course some players just perform better like Thomas Shabbat is a better defenseman way he can play like 26 minutes a night um that’s just it but that’s not good if you can’t rely on your other guys to play 20 minutes a night because then you’re just like I hope to God that they don’t allow a goal in which is not the way to run a hockey team at all it’s basically the Edmonton Oilers strategy from 2015 through to 2021 pretty much and it didn’t work very well it did not um but sorry going back to the right-handed depth in terms of arguing whether or no ad doson is Untouchable or not you go Ryan poock Scott Mayfield and and then what Adam Aiden ful yeah that’s that’s not good that’s not good enough and if you if you’re trading the ad doson you better also be getting a right-handed defenseman who could be a top pair guy yeah you you have to be trading him for so many like three pieces minimum roster piece first round pick plus and even then it’s got to be a blue chip redheaded Prospect yeah I I would I would say so also which makes me maybe we should put him on the list then be for that reason because you might you’re probably not going to get the return that you want exactly so he’s there for for me but it’s kind of like I prefer it’s B he’s like there’s a big asteris next to his name because oh listen if you’re you’re calling me about Matthew barzal I’m not I’m not answering not because I think he’s some Superstar Elite player I think he’s a star player but I also know that I’m not going to get the value out of that deal I’m I’m never going to see I’m never going to win that trade if you like that
