so yugon has lost two straight games in the Maui Invitational they got the third game tonight late night I’m sure uh Dan Hurley’s pumped to be playing like a midnight Eastern tip against Dayton for the Seventh Place spot uh it’ll be interesting I the more interesting part of this to me than just them losing a couple of games is more about the era of college basketball because we came into this season saying this is the hurle era we don’t know if it’s still their title to lose but you got to take the belt from him I didn’t expect Penny Hardaway and Tad Bole to take the belt from him but here we are uh we have Recaps up of yukon’s losses to Memphis and Colorado up on the channel I wasn’t on the Colorado one so I wanted to at least give ourselves a vacuum to talk Yukon a little bit but the way I want to frame this is it time to accept and is it acceptable to say out loud that yukon’s run has ended based on what we’ve seen this week like forever or like as if they won’t like three repeat you can Define it how you want but like to me again I’ve said for two years at this point the sport goes through Yukon it’s the Yukon era I don’t know if we’re watching a season right now that is part of the Yukon era I think the Yukon era may have ended this summer I they definitely won’t win this year uh for what it’s worth like I think they’re much closer to like a bubble team than they are like a one or two seed like they ranked preseason ultimately they’ll probably wind up in the middle somewhere don’t get me wrong but this team does not Blow Me Away by any by any means they have a ton of flaws like these guards you know we kind of were like the the whole offseason like when we were discussing like the Yukon recruits we’re like dang they’re getting a lot of guards like where’s the minutes going to come from and then I watched the Memphis game I’m like well it’s all of their minutes because it’s all of their minutes because these guards are just not playing very good um but I think next year um you know it they’re obviously going to have one of the best recruiting classes in the country it’s them Kentucky Duke right like as the three best um I think I think he’ll be able to add a bunch in the portal the way Hurley does I mean mahaney may not be playing the greatest basketball but he was one of the best gets in the portal still so it shows like Hurley still has that ability to flex within the portal um I was so wrong on him yeah I mean I said I said he was the best transfer out of anybody got yeah me me too I I was way wrong on him I might I might just be wrong on transfers like I can’t think of I just can’t think of any transfer I’m like well that’s the guy um but like they you know I think they they they’ll still be able to put together great rosters I still wouldn’t want to be in a recruiting battle with Hurley um and ultimately if you give Hurley the talent he’s proven he can win it and I think he’ll have the talent again within the next like three years to get it done so we guess our our answer is the era is not over because next year could still be part of the era that’s where we’re at yeah so the thing about college basketball I don’t think eras are ever over um because in a year you can just get the best recruiting class and the best transfers and be fine yeah I mean one issue Liam mcney was one of the best recruits Aiden mahaney was one of the best transfers and they’re behind yeah well I think that’s the interesting part is um now I think well maybe not after last night but there was moments where I’m like y McNeely might be back for a sophomore year and if you throw McNeely that’s like you throw McNeely on that team that’s like what what’s the saying you light a match over like a stove or whatever then it all blows up like I think like like there there’s so many possibilities where this team could just be Uber talented next year yeah you’re right yeah it’s interesting it’s very interesting um yeah I guess I just like I mean I’m not gonna lie to you Dion I was watching this and I don’t like NE necessarily rude against anybody but there was a moment at the end of this when they actually lost and I had live bet Yukon like 17 times so if I was rooting for anyone I was rooting for Yukon but uh there was a moment where this game’s coming to an end realizing they’re losing the handshake line happens Hurley turns and shakes tabo’s hand it’s like [ __ ] here we are I kind of had this moment of like as a basketball fan that is not a Yukon fan of like wait a second it’s open again like I I think the last couple years they’ve been the big bad elephant in the room where like yeah no matter how good Purdue is no matter how much we believe in Zach Ed yukon’s still gonna be there and even if we want to pretend they’re not that good or they’re getable or whatever I’m terrified of Hurley in March I’m terrified of Yukon this is the first time I look at this I’m not terrified at all there’s nothing I’m terrified of here nothing like what are what are you supposed to be afraid of this Yukon team I completely agree and like this might be a credit to the team last year I think they had the best two of the best rookies in the league right now in St Stefan castle and Donovan kingan Donovan kingan and I think we all knew just how talented that team was last year also losing Tristan Newton of course um but I don’t think we gave them dudes enough credit and I think like U maybe a little bit um too much was given to Hurley in terms of he’ll just be able to turn it over um you can’t turn over Adon cling who had like 19 rebounds in a game without a point you can’t turn over as Stefan Castle who took the matchup with Steph Curry personally and said I got him oneon-one down the stretch like those are different dudes they don’t have guys that have that dog in them on this team that are just like I’m gonna take this personally and I’m personally gonna go get us this game yeah yeah I think that’s a good yeah I don’t know I don’t know and it’s also just a talent issue right like Samson Johnson terce Reed are like fine like Hassan diara is fine Liam mcney playing seven minutes and giving you nothing after what he was supposed to be is a disaster like cariban is really good caraban can’t do everything and I watched this Yukon team like when I try to think of fixes to this Yukon team I come back to this well oh maybe they could just play caraban at point and then two minutes later I’m like well oh maybe they can just play caraban at the five guess what caraban can’t play every position it’s it’s ridiculous I think car is the perfect example of like you brought up like maybe they just don’t have the talent cariban is the perfect example of that to me cariban is a phenomenal basketball player any team would want him on the team if he is your third option you go back to back right if he’s your first option you go 0 and two it mly and I think that’s the ultimate issue is they have guys that because of the dudes that left the team and the lack of talent that necessarily came in to replace them that are now playing above their bag a little bit you’re playing above your pay grade you’re playing above your skill set and that’s not a knock on Alex cariban Alex caraban is best when he’s in a role where he’s playing off of people there’s no one he’s playing off of because like you said thear is fine Samson Johnson might catch the ball it also might he might it might not like he might just drop the ball out of bounds every single time um you know what I mean Liam McNeely might show up and hit you for 20 you also might not know he’s on the court if his headband falls off like there’s a lot of different there’s a lot of variances with this team um and it doesn’t allow Alex caraban to get in a rhythm because Alex caraban isn’t necessarily like I’m gonna hit you for 30 on my own like I’m gonna if Carin hits you for 30 it’s coming off as Stefon Castle assist it’s Devon Donovan kinging getting a rebound and kicking it out um and I feel like they’re they lost the players that make the game easy for cariban yeah no it’s a really good point is now a good time to acknowledge the fact that Dan Hurley threw a hissy fit all off season that anyone ranked his team outside the top five in the preseason poll yeah it’s a great time to acknowledge it uh can I also um do a handup apology for another hissy fitty through that I defended please I saw the other angle of his or of his technical by the way I I saw the other angle uh he should have been ejected yeah yeah he uh I mean he shook hands all nice and hit the podium with at least I mean he still had some words for the officials but it was a lot more respectful in game two uh we’ll see what
