welcome back to another episode of rock boys football deal early Saturday morning the newly acquired Auburn commitment sweatshirt comes on as former five-star quarterback Jackson Arnold transferring to Auburn D I’m gonna start with this I’m fired up for Jackson Arnold and his opportunity within this Auburn offense there are going to be a lot of people and maybe some Auburn fans too people across the country that are going to look at Jackson Arnold and say he’s a five-star quarterback bust because obviously it did not go great for Oklahoma in 2024 D I don’t know if there’s a quarterback and I think a lot of Oklahoma fans would probably agree with me here I don’t think there’s a single quarterback across the country that would have had success in that Oklahoma offense I mean 3.4 yards per carry there 113th in the country pass protection the quarterback was being sacked 133% of drop backs that was 132nd the pass catchers your top five pass catchers go down with injuries I mean this was an Oklahoma offense not to mention Seth Latrell really not a good offensive coordinator D it was a dumpster fire in Norman Oklahoma on the offensive side of the football we all know Jackson Arnold can play this was one of my favorite quarterbacks going back to his junior year of high school you saw some flashes from him in 2023 as a true freshman from a pure college football fan perspective I’m just fired up to see what Jackson Arnold can do in an Auburn offense that he’s going to have a little bit more fired up to get into this one before we do it as always to the Auburn fans one look I think I think there’s a lot of different ways that you could look at this and so I would love to hear from the Auburn fans because there’s you you like the potential of Jackson Arnold but you’re also talking about a young quarterback room and talking about who’s gonna emerge as the guy would love to hear from the Auburn fans in the comment section appreciate you guys rocking with it if y’all do enjoy the content consider subscribing to the channel d a fellow Jack Arnold believer I’m pretty sure how are we feeling about Jackson Arnold had an Auburn yeah and one thing I think you first jumped to is that 2023 bowl game against Arizona you saw the type of things I think you would have wanted to see like some big time throws has a lot of velocity on the ball was hitting guys in stride and they were making big plays then you still saw the turnover so that’s probably the fundamental question about what he’s going to be but you look at the last handful of games in the 2024 year he did stop throwing interception obviously the start of the Year thre a bunch of them BR venes kind of railroaded him frankly for lack of what that let can we talk about that real quick I thought that was a complete and I would love to hear from I’m sure Oklahoma fans are listening to this too look I think we were all excited to see Mike Hawkins the true freshman for Oklahoma that I did not think that was a very good move by Bren bennies because I think it clearly kind of saw like Jackson AR is a guy they went back to him D what quarterback do you think was going to have success in that offense I thought that was a that was that was I’m with you I thought it was kind of gutless it felt like Brent venol needed a guy to throw to the Wolves if you will little bit those issues but everyone knew he wasn’t the problem I mean you look at that offensive line venables just didn’t put together a good enough group like that’s not a serviceable unit for the SEC all the wide receivers were hurt and the running backs frankly weren’t playing great either so nothing was working around him but his ability to kind of bounce back from that and again put together it was never going to be a pretty back half of the season because again they just weren’t like good enough players on that team around them but grinding games out against Alabama not turning the ball over being able to run the ball effectively like he does have some of that game in him too that I think is something probably Payton Thorne didn’t exactly have all the time uh to totally agree with that and then you go back to him out of high school like state champ down there in Denton Texas with guy um this kid can win football games and he does have a little bit more of that pedigree and Moxy than a guy like Pon Thor it I’m not going to lie it felt like whenever the moment got big for pton Thorne it was clearly too big and he was making some big mistakes for me Jackson Arnold seems to be a guy and we this is probably the the negative when you’re talking about Jackson Arnold is he’s not necessarily a proven commodity we all know he can do it you’re not a top 10 National Prospect five-star quarterback if you can’t like he has the physical traes to but you haven’t necessarily seen it but again I don’t know if that’s entirely his fault what I’m most excited for is the upside that it brings to this offense we talked about Malik Murphy and we talked about Jackson Arnold then kind of having the conversation of who would you rather have I made the claim on Wednesday I’d rather have Jackson Arnold because I think he gives you a higher upside to this Auburn offense than Malik Murphy does for 2025 look Malik Murphy’s a little bit more of a proven commodity because he put together a solid season for 12 games in 2024 with Duke limited as an athlete Jackson Arnold there’s not really a throw you can’t ask him to make and I think more importantly he’s an athlete too that can get outside not only run the football like we saw him do towards the back half of 2024 but he’s also a guy that can extend Place get himself out of trouble which is really becoming an important Dynamic when you’re trying to play quarterback at a high level in college you have to be able to get outside the pocket extend place they’re off off platform to me Jackson Arnold can do all that stuff they one one thing outside of the proven commodity that I think he’ll need to clean up is pushing it down the field this was and you can put a lot on the rest of this Oklahoma offense Jackson Arnold Miss some throws I mean 20 plus yards down the field only 23% completion percentage talk about guys like Perry Thompson talk about guys like cam Coleman this is an Auburn offense that wants to push it down the field with their Playmakers he’s going to need to take a step in the right direction in that department if he wants to have success within this alurn offense in I do agree especially when you look at the first couple of games where again Oklahoma was probably never going to be super explosive against their fellow SEC teams but even in games against like Houston two lane like there were that he left off the board that again you kind of said it like I look at how talented this wide wide receiver group is for Auburn and what they can be that’s gonna be a big part of frankly about him being able to beat out fellow quarterbacks like Walker white and even probably Duce Duce Knight to an extent because I look like this has kind of become a very talented quarterback room for Auburn so I how competitive this battle’s gonna be I don’t think like he’s got a clear from from a pure oh I agree I think it will be a competition 100% um from a pure talent standpoint this quarterback room is is disgustingly loaded and you know like we went with pyton Thorne the last two years because there was that veteran guy that was most ready to play you don’t have that and that’s that the the the two question marks I have is one does this impact Walker white or dece Knight I would guess H fre had the conversation with both of them you know I think they were okay with certainly okay with holding Garner hitting the portal they were probably okay with Hank Brown hitting the portal they don’t want Walker white or du s KN at the portal and what I’m thinking is that you probably had that conversation with deuce and with Walker white before you brought a guy like Jackson Arnold in and say hey we’re going to give you a fair shot to win the job but we’re GNA try to bring him in makeer because you couldn’t really go into 2025 with just Walker white and Duce Knight and even Ashton Daniels like I don’t think that was GNA be enough I think he needed to add another quarterback to that room do you think it will have an impact on Walker away and du Knight I would guess no because I would guess you freeze has already had that conversation with both do almost assuredly not because I think there’s a big enough agage capap at this point the guy who I think does get put in a possible spot is Walker away because obviously if Jackson Arnold starts this year I’m not you unless he really blows out which is a good problem for Auburn he’s probably not going to the NFL right now so that to me the only guy who gets put in a certain spot if you will would probably be Walker white because then he’s got sandwich kind of between du Knight who he does feel like that guy that Auburn kind of almost picked to lead them into like the national championship hunt if you will just given what they put into getting him and flipping him from Notre Dame so the only one is Walker white and where that puts him if Jackson Arnold wins this job and doesn’t go to the NFL and the thing with that and we’ve had we had that conversation with Florida State the other day you like my my take continues to be if you’re Hugh freeze you’re just trying to stack Talent all over this roster like enough is never enough that that is really the reason Auburn brought in Hugh freeze was let’s get the talent on this roster in the right spot you look at the quarterback position do sck Jackson Arnold fstar guys Walker white not quite a fstar but has fstar traits I mean and one of the things why I’m okay with this is we kind of knew Walker white was probably going to be a year three year four guy super talented but was never GNA be a guy that was a hey he’s gonna play early at the college level so at the end of the day the the way I and this would probably be a tie of bow on this conversation here and we’re going to get into a little bit about what Jackson Arnold brings later in the week du Knight Walker white Jackson Arnold that one of them’s got to a merge yeah I feel I feel pretty damn good that one of those players going to emerge and be a good quarterback in 2025 and if it doesn’t happen then you start having the conversation with hrie like hey we gave you two five-star quarterbacks one who was a top 100 guy if you can’t we kind of gave him a pass because we we just knew pton Thorn was was what he was if you can’t make it work with these three quarterbacks with this quarterback room that’s more of a thing with coaching than it is with with some of the players and missing on quarterbacks you can’t miss on all three of these guys are too too good and that’s probably why frankly it’s okay that he brought in a room that again is gonna be very competitive if somebody gets pushed out that’s kind of the way things work I guess in college football now you get your best guy in there but Hugh freees you’re right he needs to win now he needs to put a proof of concept in place because he’s gonna get into the Mario cryst ball territory soon enough where it’s like all right you’re bringing in all this Talent from the high school ranks you were selling like all right be the guy to bring this team back into the future back into the championship fold you can’t have another season where you go like six and six or something where you’re under where you can’t have a season where you’re underperforming with the talent you have which I I felt like we knew Auburn wasn’t a national championship roster in 2024 probably because of pton Thorne but you I don’t think you make the argument that it should have been it should have been at least probably seven eight wins that’s kind of what I look that was a good enough team it was definitely young so like you kind of said it like I wasn’t expecting an SCC Championship but you lost some games you certainly can’t have lost so one this this this just came to my brain as we’re recording one thing I kind of like about Jackson Arnold versus uh you know Cadence author one year plug andplay guy is that we both agree Jackson AR is not just getting handed this job because he’s not a proven commodity in the college football landscape either I think it’s going to do wonders for Duce and Walker to stay engaged you know it sometimes I think it’s hard to develop as a quarterback when you know in Spring and fall that you’re you’re not going to be the guy you’re you’re the quarterback too before Spring ball even kicks off bringing in J Jackson arold like all right du sight’s gonna be dialed in Walker White’s gonna be dialed in because they know they have a chance at starting if they can put together good Springs and good Falls if you’re bringing a guy like k Salter it’s all right du night you can throw away the Playbook your freshman year because you’re going to red shirt here and not play that that could be certainly a very real path for all three of them and you’re right that probably does make that a really intense competition going into the spring good not a bad thing and that that you’ve seen some of the best coaches in the country kind of live and die by that principle like competitive death we want to just get as much talent on our team and whatever Talent Rises to the top you know he going to be damn good that’s playing on Satur is I think that this to me is really exciting because I I just am excited to see Jackson Arnold get a shot that’s the Crux of it I’m excited to see what Jackson can really be because again you’ve seen some really impressive things from him and you just saw an Oklahoma offense that you could have put Tom Brady in there and they weren’t gonna move the ball enough because that just was brutal it just wasn’t good enough around him yeah all right we’ll close down there uh we’ll probably do a little bit of a film study on Jackson AR because there are some things I want to dive into appreciate you guys rocking with it if y’all do
