the Toronto Blue Jays have made a couple of moves that we need to speak about and pretty interesting things that we did not see coming so we’ll break that down on this episode of Jay’s doest as well as the continued watch of some power hitting outfielders that the Blue Jays desperately need to address some holes on their roster so we’ll have that in much more coming up next welcome in everybody to Jay’s doest I’m your host Peter Ronis alongside of host Nick cson I don’t know if I’m lagging a little bit for you guys but uh bear with us because we’re doing our best here to keep uh rolling with all this content so shout out to you guys for all the support and make sure to hit that subscribe button before we get into the video uh but Nick some moves went down today by the Toronto Blue Jays not Blockbuster by any stretch but they were surprising because we were expecting this one player that is probably not going to be a part of the organization now to at least maybe have a role this season with the depleted Bullpen and and could have potentially been a guy to come up from the minor leagues we’ve been talking about the lack of depth that the Blue Jays Bullpen has specifically in the minor league ranks and if anyone was close to the big leagues or had a chance to make an impact this year it was this guy but they ended up signing someone that I think feels a little bit of a bigger need for them and could potentially be a lot better than what the advanced numbers say or what his numbers have said in the past uh in the past uh workload that he’s experienced but again not a blockbuster move by any stretch we’re still waiting for that to happen but a move nonetheless yeah some interesting moves and again like you mentioned he’s not going to be a headliner of any sort of headline this season for the Toronto Blue Jays but it is interesting for a couple of reasons we’re going to dive into a bunch of different things here so we’ll start with this they’ve signed Josh Walker to a one-year $760,000 contract Hagen Danner has been designated for assignment and That is someone I mentioned on our stream and our videos as a potential Bullpen piece going forward and we’re looking at Josh Walker we’ll focus on him first then we’ll get Hagen Danner still has an option or year remaining so the Jays has some flexibility with this signing consider it a slight inside track in any Bullpen competition Toronto still clearly needs to add more Lefty depth in the bullpen alongside Brendan little so we know of course the DFA Tim Mesa the D that was obviously half the year last year Yankees picked them up it is what it is they DFA henis Cabrera this off season as well so their only Lefty at the moment is Brendan little who had a very interesting season with the uh with the um Jays last year and you look at it now Josh Walker has a minor league option so the Jay’s don’t have to open the season with him and if you’re unfamiliar with his game he is a lefty who doesn’t throw for a ton of heat but he has Elite extension per baseball Savant a lot of WID a high WID percentage but has command issues at the minors and the major so Peter it is an interesting player you know he has some he’s a 47.2% whiff rate so clearly they’re going to be if they you know use him in the big leagues Le use him as a specific guy using him for Niche situations specifically when you want swing and miss and strikeouts here it’s an interesting player and for a bullpen that’s as bad as it is this SE this upcoming season at least as it currently stands and how bad it was last year obviously improved with Jimmy Garcia and some other guys this is an interesting signing to me and again it’s a major league contract but he has an option remaining and it’s surprising to me because Hagen Danner as you mentioned could have definitely been a player for the Blue Jays this year and he’s an older Prospect he’s someone that has shown some significant promise in the minor leagues mid90s fast ball not Elite stuff by any stretch but definitely someone that deserved a look going into spring training so you see the numbers right there they don’t jump off the table at you um in terms of Hagen Danner here but still he’s been fairly solid over the past couple of seasons and I thought that maybe he would have gotten a chance coming into spring training we’ve seen him in the past couple of spring trainings with the blue jays and again the lack of depth in the bullpen I just don’t know if you’re in a position to give these guys up I assume that uh you know Danner would have probably had to make the team to to avoid the rule five draft or something like that so that is maybe the reason why they chose to go with a guy with an option who is also a lefty and I mean Josh Walker seems intriguing again an older guy too with some big league experience so it’s not a terrible signing in my opinion but I really thought thought that this could have been a breakout year for uh Hagen Danner but again like you mentioned I think he’s going to be a specialist but that’s pretty hard to do nowadays with the three batter minimum rues so he might be a lefty he might be able to get you some outs in some certain situations but I think you’re going to really have to cherry-pick those spots and and put him into favorable situations in order to get the most out of him because he has command issues his stuff is not all that great I mean he’s got a great curveball by the looks of these uh Advanced analytics here but got to see a little bit more and we got to see a bigger sample size as well it’s not like he had a a 60 60 Innings pitch last year with the Mets he was know fairly fairly shortly used so we’ll see yeah 10 games and the three obviously the three batter rule it affects players like this a lot we’ve seen around the MLB that being said you can obviously circumvent that a little bit by putting him in when there’s one out or two outs and that’s I’m sure what they’re going to do with him but it’s not a groundbreaking move and regarding Hagen Dan you mentioned he put a 3.06 ER last season with uh between the bison and of course dun Eden but we saw him briefly briefly one game made his MLB Dave bu back in 2023 but he’s only 25 so again they’re going for the veteran Lefty as opposed to the young Hagen Danner but he hasn’t done enough I guess for the Blue Jays at the minor league level he was coming off of some a couple of interesting Seasons never had a great year since the 2021 season with Vancouver so ultimately I’m curious to see how they use Joshua here um Josh Walker so I think the biggest thing here is this Bullpen at this point now is so thin regarding depth specifically with lefties that signings like this that usually wouldn’t carry too much weight we’ll probably end up seeing these guys going forward at the major league level and probably at the minor league level as well and in spring training and all these things so let us know down below what your thoughts are on this but Peter I want to touch on this here quickly before I wrap up we finally got some information surrounding jerks and Prof far and according to Jeff passen he is seeking a threeyear deal so we know Tao’s searching for a four-year deal send searching for a 5-year deal and jerks and profer the most you know risky of the three is searching for a threeyear deal here and you can see this from Jeff passen it’s it’s interesting looking for a deal in the three-year plus range 45 million was the initial you know spot track estimate and things like that I’m curious to see what your thoughts are on this now given the market being set for santand there and the market being set for TAS Hernandez the most volatile player of the bunch here in profer has put up wrc’s as low as 40 I believe a few years ago he’s very up and down coming off of a breakout year I think he is I think he’s the riskiest of the bunch here but intriguing he wants three years about what we expected yeah it is um it is definitely the riskiest of of the three here and Hernandez I think is probably the most polished of the three Anthony Santander maybe gives you the highest ceiling of the three and jerks and profar it’s intriguing just because of what he can do for you he is a guy guy that has played multiple positions in his career he was once a number one Prospect not for his team for all of Major League Baseball he was the number one Prospect in baseball when he was coming up now he’s approaching 30 he finally had a great year with the San Diego Padres and I think that’s also due to the fact that he found his position he knew that he was going to be playing every day and it’s a lot easier for a player when he knows that the team is behind him and when he knows knows that he has a spot in the lineup no matter what happens he was he was their number three hitter on a team that went toe-to-toe with the Los Angeles Dodgers and brought them to the brink of elimination so no one got that close to beating the Dodgers all postseason long and jerks and profar was a big reason why the Padres were one of the best teams in baseball last year why they were one of the hottest teams in baseball over the second half of the season and a switch hitter that can play multiple positions little bit limited defensively in terms of his actual ability but I think he’s a solid player he he’s a guy that gets on base too so I’m intrigued by profar and for the right price I think a three-year $45 million deal could be a steal for that guy and he might be the riskiest of the bunch but he could also turn out to be the best player of the three and we saw the numbers he put up last year an Ops around 850 he was just a fantastic player for the Padres and they they became one of my favorite teams to watch down the stretch of the season and proar was a big reason for that obviously they got some Talent around him and he was well insulated in that lineup but I think he’s a very good player and like I said for the right price I mean at this point you just got to get one of those three guys because the off season is a total and utter disaster failure call it whatever you want to call it if you don’t get a guy that can jack at least 20 5 to 30 home runs for you yeah and the Jays are interest in him according to passing as well so that’s something to keep an eye out as the season or the offseason sorry progresses with RI saki getting underway soon as we approach January but let wrap it up let us know down below what your thoughts are on the designation the DFA of Hagen Danner as well as the signing of Josh Walker and of course let us know out of those three profer teoscar San andere which one you’d want thank you guys for watching see you later
