it is Sunday December 8th 2024 this is a special breaking news edition of baseball today that is my man Trevor ploop I am Chris Rose producer Dan along for the ride as well although for him over the next 20 plus minutes it’s going to be a very bumpy ride so for the second straight year we have somebody that has signed for the League’s richest deal 16 years $765 million going to Juan sto to stay in New York but he is leaving the Bronx and heading to Queens to sign with the Met apparently they outbid the Yankees by one year and $5 million Ploy are you shocked I’m not shocked that he went to the Mets I mean obviously we knew that Uncle Stevie that this is his calling card let’s go out offer every single other person so I knew they were in the Runnings with it the 15 years shocks me like it it’s crazy the no deferrals that’s reported right now there are no deferrals in this deal so we’re looking at 15765 the math on that is 51 a year people 51 million per year for Juan stto to suit up in the blue and orange in New York it’s it’s um it’s awesome this is this is this is what you want uh for a superstar baseball player you want him to go through these negotiations you want him to sign early in the offseason so now we have now we can see what these rosters are going to look like so I I think when Steve Cohen bought the Mets he came in guns a blazing and it didn’t work out for him initially and I think he started to understand he’s a smart guy he started to understand what it takes to win at the major league level so go get David Sterns let’s get the farm system pumping uh let’s get Player Development going let’s you know sign some auxiliary pieces and I guarantee you this entire time last couple years he had his eyes set on onean freaking SoDo and you know what he did not let him walk out the door without signing him to contract so I think this is massive I’m not too shocked again the length is crazy I was in the I was in the clubhouse when Bryce Harper signed for 133 years uh with the the Phillies and all that money and all I could think was 13 years is a long freaking time 15 years I don’t is this the longest contract that’s ever been given out it has to be right 15 years yeah I think so so let me correct myself 15 for 765 from the Mets it was going to be 16 for 760 from the Yankees so I just want to clarify all that information um yeah and I think it’s nuts like I I told you this earlier in the off season that $700 million to sh Show he Otani is one thing it’s a steel no question because it opened up different business Avenues and we’ve already heard of at least a half dozen business deals that have been done between the Dodgers and companies from Japan is Juan stto gonna do that no I mean is he going to put asses in the seats yeah they’re a very good team they pushed the Dodgers to six games in the NLCS I they’ve made a couple of pitching moves so far they’re probably going to make a few more moves and the one thing I the one question I’ve got is how long is this sustainable for Steve Co is he just G to keep kind of outbidding himself to some degree is he just going to keep adding on and he doesn’t care about the CBT and he doesn’t care about losing International money and he doesn’t care about draft picks and all that sort of stuff because once you dip your toe in this sort of pond you have to keep going don’t you this is what I think Chris and this is I I honestly believe this is what’s going on right now okay money doesn’t mean too much to Steve Co we know how much he has right for these guys it is about Legacy how they are going to be remembered a lot of these billionaires nobody knows about nobody will talk about in the future they’ll just go on Dust in the Wind dude okay if you’re the guy that owns the Ms that steals Juan SoDo from the Yankees that is called Legacy even if you got to give a billion dollars if your own of your own money he’s establishing a legacy he will not be forgotten in the ls of baseball for many many years to come because he’s putting this forward and look it’s a lot of money but I truly believe when you have everything Chris and you have the ability to buy everything thing and do everything this is the one thing that these guys want it’s people to remember them in a great Manner and and we know like you know there’s in Steve Cohen’s past if he didn’t buy the Mets if he didn’t do that he probably will be remembered in a different light but now he is the owner of the Mets who went out and got juano literally stole him from the Yankees like this is this is about Legacy for him and this is it means that much if you’re a New York Mets fan you have to be jumping up and down for joy that this guy decided to buy your team from where you were to where you’re at now is a Grand Canyon type of difference well yeah I mean this is this is Steve Cohen’s favorite team I mean he wanted to buy the Mets what did he say at the very beginning I want to be the East Coast version of the Dodgers which means I want to win a world championship within five years I don’t know exactly the timeline but we’re right at the fiveyear is Mark so it hasn’t quite happened yet um so I mean the thing is it’s not just enough to give Juan stto $765 million they’ve got to win a world championship right they’ve only won two in the history of the franchise 1969 1986 they’ve only been to a couple other World Series and you know 2000 and 2015 so that it’s not enough to say oh we took uh the Yankees great player and brought him cross town they have to win now dude I I agree with that to truly cement a legacy and what he wants yes they need to win a World Series but I think this already what he’s done with this franchise in the short amount of time that he’s owned it has already he’s already painted himself in such a different light that I think that is for him enough now you put a World Series title there then it’s the cherry on top the icing on the cake if you will this is he’s agree with you okay how how were how are people gonna think of Steve Co before he bought the Mets I mean I don’t think they thought of him well I think that the only thing people thought of him was hey this guy got barred from the SEC right or whatever it is I don’t yeah I mean a little bit if you dug up this is what you if you Google Steve Cohen’s name that’s would come up you Google Steve Cohen’s name now guess what it’s going to say I gave Juan stto $765 million I paid Francisco Lindor I did all these things I brought the Mets into the Limelight of Major League Baseball that’s what comes up when you Google Steve Cohen’s name and I I that that’s worth a billion dollars to this guy obviously well yeah I mean listen I I understand it from his side of things um I I do think that they got to finish the job now he has done everything in his power right he brought in Justin berlander he brought in Max Scherer uh you know he up Francisco Lindor he’s going to keep going I mean it won’t surprise me if he gets a Frontline starter whether that’s a Max freed or Corbin Burns to go at the top of the rotation with kodai senga um but he’s gonna keep pushing he’s gonna do everything in his power to make sure he has given management coaching staff and the players the tools to succeed so from that standpoint as a fan you certainly can’t look at it any other way um it’s too early still in the off season to say hey what do you think can they bypass the Phillies right now as the top team in the NL East but man oh man you’ve now got Lindor you’ve got Juan stto at the top of that lineup that’s pretty damn special he’s a GameChanger Chris look at what the Yankees did with him in the lineup right he changed that organization Aaron is a hell of a ball player but until he had wodo things weren’t really going the way he wanted him the way that he wanted to go right like he’s a gamechanging organization changing type of player that’s why you give him this type of money it’s uh man no deferrals like that’s kind of where my head goes to like what the everyone was thinking he might get he’s G to get 600 he might push it to 700 because he’s going to follow the show plan he’s going to defer this money and and and and again this is nothing official yet but the reports are not one penny wow is deferred not one penny that’s amazing yeah you’re talking about 51 million I think is the aav uh that’s something special and uh by the way we’re all making fun of Scott Boris a year ago because he could get his client’s jobs until spring training the middle of spring training well this year he’s got Juan stto for 765 he’s got Blake Snell for 182 and he’s got a few more out there that are going to reap the benefits of his negotiating skills uh real quickly let’s talk about Comfort Kardashian Sun sons’s basketball team yes he did am I gonna go up to Kim and say I wear skims you sent them to me how did they look probably not but that’s a big deal it’s a big deal that’s a really big deal so tell go to skims put our podcast in I could be like hey did we bring you guys some business and she’ll be like who who are you no you’re Ted you’re Teddy’s hot dad that’s who you’re going to be bro oh shoot but by the way people could people could tell I look a little out of sorts today uh I didn’t get dressed up specifically for the WAN sto announcement I’m down at NFL Network because I’m gonna be doing game day final with mjd I’ve got my eye on the Chiefs and the Chargers Sunday night game while talking about Wan sto let’s talk about the other side of things did you ever think there would be a day where a guy of this Talent at the age that he’s at where you could have he and Aaron judge together for the next almost decade that he would leave the Yankee that doesn’t happen dude that does not H it wouldn’t happen if George Stein Brer were alive it does not happen now I don’t know what more the Yankees could have done they offered him 760 million over 16 years so apparently he liked it with the Yankees just not enough I I don’t know what the reason is I I don’t know um is it was it the extra year was he thinking hey when I’m 40 years old or 41 I don’t really want to be playing baseball anymore probably not um clearly it was the meetings dude if you’re offering this like similar contracts like these things are yes the extra year at the end of it he could I don’t think that matters at all he could have been like no buy me out of my last year Yankees like I don’t want to play anymore like I don’t think that mattered I think these meetings took a different tone I think Steve Cohen promised him the world dude and I don’t know if the Yankees can promise him the world the way Steve Cohen can uh I so I’m not really sure what it was I will say this and I think we’ve talked about this before Chris um if he grew up with the Yankees it could be a different story but this guy’s been around the block dude he doesn’t there’s no loyalty anywhere anymore it is where do I feel like it’s the best for me and my family and then who’s going to Shell out the dough now if couple teams are going to Shell out the dough then you know by process of elimination it becomes what’s the best fit for me where do I feel most comfortable where do I believe in the most so to me that tells me that Steve Cohen had a better meeting than the Stein brers did what’s wow can you tell me that I’m wrong there no I I mean you you just spent five minutes talking about Steve Cohen and his legacy what’s Hal’s Legacy right now I mean they they won a World Series in 2009 they finally made it back this season through what in my opinion was the easiest route for them since that 2009 I don’t want to hear Yankee fans say oh you said it was easy no no no what I said it was the easiest route because they didn’t have to play Houston Houston wasn’t even that great this year they had to play Kansas City and Cleveland Two Fine teams but they’re nothing like what we seen in the American League be a hurdle for the Yankees in recent years this was going to be their easiest path to get there so now the question is what do they do how do they get off the map first of all you’ve got a stunned set of Yankees fans they are stunned because they are not used to losing a player of this caliber in his mid 20s and certainly not to a cross town rival in the New York Mets this is a gut punch it is an ego blow uh it is something that the Yankees I don’t know if that means are going to overspend right now to go get a Max freed to go get a Corbin Burns who we haven’t heard anything about uh to go get a Christian Walker to go get a Pete Alonzo to go get somebody an Alex bregman somebody that can make a difference and a bunch of guys that can make a difference right now because I if I were an agent I would be calling the Yankees right now and being like you open for business because I hear you got some vacancies in that lineup that’s the thing if you if the public know your fans know now that you had 760 Mill million dollar to spend over the next 15 years so you got 51m to play with you better reallocate that money somewhere else if you don’t if you don’t and you start missing out on other guys Yankee fans don’t feel like themselves anymore they don’t feel like they’re rooting for the same organization anymore and I asked you before Chris um and look Yankee fans always you hate the Yankees I don’t I don’t I don’t think about the Yankees that much okay like I I cover baseball nationally I like my twins and they’re not even in the conversation in any of these things okay I’m just speaking from an Outsiders perspective and I talked to a lot of Yankee fans too so I got a little bit of insight um I asked you when does it start to feel like or could it ever feel like the Mets are big brother in the city because we’re kind of living that listen we’re kind of living that right now in LA with Steve bomber who’s got way more money than Steve Cohen he’s got the Clippers brand new into it dome the Clippers have not been able to do that and now this is um a salary CA League I believe in the NBA right yeah it it is it’s so like he doesn’t have the re capish doesn’t have the resources necessarily to go out and outspend every single other owner uh but it’s they’re not they’re not big brother and they haven’t I don’t think it matters how many championships they win I think the Lakers are still always going to be LA’s team I’m just curious let’s go let’s say the Mets look they got to get past the Dodgers which is scary right if the Mets win two championships in the next what I’ll give them eight years and the Yankees don’t even sniff it what are we talking about New York I don’t know that’s a huge hypothetical I I don’t know I’m asking bro understand this is this is what his this is what his game plan is Chris yes it is and this is the first step toward it I think if if you ask Yankee fans right now what they think of their organization I think there’s a lot more negativity than positivity to be honest with you and I don’t know if that’s fair uh once again if the reports are true that the offer was 16 years and 760 million I mean I I didn’t think there was any way at the beginning of this offseason that the Yankees would get anywhere close to that number I just didn’t think so and they have and I he said no the fact they did Chris means shows you how important this signing was to retain their status oh yeah with their fan base absolutely but by the way I don’t think it’s the worst thing in the world that Juan stto said no to a $760 million deal with the Yankees here’s why okay I do think that the Yankees are more budgetarily conscious than Steve Cohen is with the Met so that means that they’re not going to add I don’t think they’re going to add free agent deals that total $760 million maybe they will I don’t know if they will but if they get three good players for 600 million that can really help them yes you lose Juan sto but they were deficient in other areas agreed agreed so I don’t think this is necessarily it’s stunning it’s a shot to your ego you’re losing an amazing generational Talent that’s now in his fourth team before he’s 27 but I think if you can take a step back over the next few days and take a deep breath it might work out for the Yankees I just think people underestimate what a guy like that does for your lineup especially when he’s going off especially when he’s surrounded with the people that he needs to be surrounded with it’s him as one person is better than filling the lineup with two guys that make up whatever his War would be or whatever his value would be it’s just it it’s the facts it is facts he matters a lot Chris that’s why he’s getting paid what he’s getting paid I mean I don’t know clearly the Yankees have to you know find out what their plan B is or was and um you know Willie Damas off the board we just did a show yesterday uh about and I think he kind of was part of their plan B and now he’s not there so is it strictly hey let’s go you know go just develop or sign a bunch of Frontline starting pitching is that the plan is it is Christian Walker the answer to not getting Juan SoDo like possibly like that they gotta figure it out dude hang Kim Christian Walker Corbin Burns does that satisfy Yankee fans probably not what satisfies Yankees fans now I don’t think anything can satisfy this loss no not right now not in the offseason it cannot once you start seeing it come together depending on what they get I think it’s possible but it is troubling at best sorry so missed out on that but but my good friend yeah passing Bud passing um oh my I missed this one too a little bit Blake Trin to the Dodgers just two years 22 years 22 I had it at one year so I’m firing tonight so you got the team you the team got the team not the years though but that’s nice that you got one you’re on the board lot of stuff going on can forto goes to the Dodgers like a lot of things yeah for one year and 17 million yeah that’s crazy real quickly before we wrap things up and once again we’re discussing the breaking news about Wan stto moving cross town from Bronx to Queens for 765 million over the next 15 years uh we had also heard that he met with the Dodgers uh Toronto Red Sox let’s focus on the Red Sox just real quickly I didn’t think Toronto was ever going to be a player here I had heard that at the very early Beginnings that he didn’t want to move up there for that um Boston we had heard that they are stepping on the accelerator this year and that they felt like because David Ortiz’s relationship they had a real shot obviously they did not come to fruition how much of the kicking the onions is that to that fan base it would have been more of a kick in the onions if he resigned with the Yankees I’ll say that I think if they I think Red Sox fans looking at this contract uh are probably saying yeah we were never going to get there and I think that they actually are okay with saying let’s go sign some starters let’s go fill the roster out with more than wo you know obviously they wanted him on the team but I think the only team right now that’s really kicking themselves is the New York Yankees because they offered a near identical deal and he went cross town Chris Dodgers reportedly didn’t get above what like they’re around 600 million the Red Sox weren’t ever going to do this who knows the Blue Jays were going to do so I I I really believe the only team that’s like shocked and mad and all these things our New York Yankee fans be just because of the contract because he played for him last year they got used to seeing this guy in Pinstripes man and it’s it was a beautiful thing we watched this guy play all throughout the season all throughout the postseason it seemed like he was a meant to be there Chris it really did and of course yeah he played in a couple a couple of different organizations beforehand but when he put the pinstripes on it was like this this feels right this is where he’s supposed to be I think a lot of Yankee fans got used to that and now all of a sudden he’ll be wearing Pinstripes every once in a while but just not the right color Chris it’s amazing it really is unreal I don’t I think Boston’s going to make some nice signings I think it’ll keep them who knows what the AL East is going to look like right now really I mean the Yankees fans will say well listen we’re gonna have a full season of a healthy gar Cole hopefully that’s accurate I think they’re going to add some other pieces I’m curious to see what Baltimore starts doing obviously they added Tyler O’Neal this weekend but they have obviously a lot of pitching stuff to take care of um we’ll see if Toronto can bounce back the Rays whatever I’m not counting much on them uh and we’ll see what Boston does here in the near future anything else before we wrap W my head around this I I just opened up the MLB trade rumors you know article and it reminded me that show he otani’s deal was a $461 million present day deal Ju Soto present money is $300 million more than sh Otani the Dodgers like hats off like that’s that is nuts that’s amazing and we get to see pitcher Otani this certainly at some point this year uh I don’t know leave some comments tell us what you’re thinking Yankees Yankee fans tell us how you’re feeling Mets fans you got to be celebrating I we want to hear all about it let’s go I got one more thing this is interesting to me and I don’t know this doesn’t really matter I know you got to go but I was just my guy is Mark Vientos I love him I think he brings a lot to the team if you’re a guy like himim he’s like I I probably in line another good solid half a year or full year I’m in line for an extension are is that like even in the cards anymore when you sign a guy for this much money do you just say hey we’ll just let you play out your arbitration process and see how it goes like I feel like a lot of things in the future are going to be impacted because they paid juano so much money with no deferrals possible who knows I don’t know I’m just thinking man I hope it’s not that way swagy ve you’re my guy huge day in baseball richest contract in North American Pro Sports history maybe even around the globe I haven’t done all that digging yet but man oh man it’s unreal once again breaking news happens you’re going to get your Hest opinions here at johnboy media so for uh One of a Kind Trevor PL the one-of aind producer sorry Dan roor The Uber talented Trevor plof I am Chris
