welcome in everybody to fantasy pros this is the fantasy baseball show it is me Joey P Joe P Zia with me is the Welsh and if you look closely you’ll see the happiest boy alive me Joe pisapia why because the New York Mets signed Juan sto to a $765 million deal $75 million signing bonus oh it’s a good day I’m going to light the cigar I’ve waited for this cigar I’m going to light this fake cigar right here I’m going toay up we’re going to blow it out there it’s delicious because finally Juan soda was a new York Met as I always said he would be someday Steve Cohen is an art collector and he has collected this piece of art and it is Juan SoDo and there’s a lot of Fallout from from a fantasy perspective we’re going to talk about that there’s good there’s bad there’s all these different aspects of it um Welsh this happened I was still kind of in shock and I think this is something that you know for all the Met fans out there over the years you know they haven’t won a World Series since I was eight years old all right so it’s been a very long time and the constant you’re the little brother to the Yankees and the Yankees are always going to get the player because you’re always going to be cheaper than everybody else and you’re never going to put the money forward look Steve Co put the money forward anybody who’s pissed off you’re a Yankee fan is pissed off the Yankees put the money forward they put a little less but they certainly put enough and at the end of the day Juan sto was a Hired Gun you hired him from the Padre’s because you didn’t get Otani and you know what you had to know he was going to go out there test the market and do whatever he was going to do and Steve coh would not be out bid and Welsh he was not so w stto for the next 15 years or at least the next five the op down I mean and that’s the whole thing too there PE the hyperventilating around this is so funny because there are all these wrinkles The Five-Year opt out what that increases the contract to but at the end of the day he is a player who is 25 years old who is arguably right now one of if not the best hitter in baseball and who knows in five six years from now how good he could be when he’s at his true Peak so let’s get your first take initial in from the signing and then we’ll start breaking things down further so see this shirt yes I do this is a shout out to rare this shirt is inspired uh by think you should leave or whatever Tim Robinson show and if you’re watching on the YouTube there’s the little baseball guy who represents the eggs who’s going to you know he’s a baseball he’s going to eat the eggs this is a baseball instead of the eggs this is the money this is Juan SoDo feed money feed money Juan SoDo wanted all the money he got all the money and a power move I just want to point out because we could go into the contract stuff it’s a fiveyear he can opt out and he can go and try to get more if he wants to stay they have to push it to like 5 million more but here’s the power move no deferred money in this entire contract we have been inundated with 680 million deferred from Otani Blake snells everyone’s deferring zero everyone the Dodgers is deferring the the Dodgers I mean other teams too yeah but the Dodgers especially have made a a a recent trend of this deferment stuff which I I wonder what do they win all these titles and then sell the team off for gazillion gabillion one well they’re making a gazillion bajillion gajillion dollar anyway and then and then they have to worry about at the end of the day look the the Mets went out there and got their guy and to be honest if if we’re really talking about like yeah it’s about the money first and foremost it always is always but I I think to a certain extent too I think wota to be the guy and I think with the Mets he’s the guy you think Jud that away from him I think judge does take that away from him a little bit and and incidentally but it’s just true and I think with the Mets he is immediately the guy no knock gone Francisco Lindor incredible season MVP caliber we all get that but Soto’s the guy and Soo is going to be the guy for a very long time there and I think that mattered to him it matter when he was with the Padre’s he hated he hated being with the he was not the guy saw in person on the backfield you could just see it was the Manny Machado Fernando tatis show and like there’s Juan sto too I think he’s the kind of dude that thrives being the guy and I think he desires that and the Mets are also I don’t think the Mets are going to change what they’re doing I think they the approach is still the same they’ve added wotto but this whole like we’re going to grow the youth and you’re gonna see Ronnie Mauricio next year too and you’re going to see this guy next year to and going to continue to I don’t think there’s this hyper Drive where all of a sudden now they sign every single free agent I don’t think that’s the way Sterns does things and I think this was the anomaly because of his age and because of how good he was and I don’t talk about how good he is too because I’ve also seen a lot of this the whole knocking about Juan stto is like well there a lot of money to pay for a guy who doesn’t run very well or field very well I want to bring up a guy named Ted Williams who also was not a very good runner and could not give a crap about defense okay Ted Williams arguably the greatest H that ever lived uh the most walks in MLB history under the age of 24 Juan sto broke his record of Ted Williams uh Ted Williams and Juan SoDo don’t just stop there the fewest career games to 200 plus home runs in 700 walks Ted Williams 900 uh Juan stto 926 just 26 games behind him the rest of that list by the way Frank Thomas Ted Williams bab Ruth wodo the most consecutive Seasons with a 400 on base percentage for his career Ted Williams 17 Frank Thomas eight Wade bogs eight juano 7 and he’s only 25 so yes it is true he is not the all-around player but then again at the same time he is so great at what he does I don’t think it matters Welsh am I off base here no I think this is the market I think that’s the most important thing too it’s like this is a I don’t want to call it generational yet or anything like that this is one of the best hitters in the game right now in the peak Prime of their career and these guys don’t become available that often in free agency and you’ve got the money you know I mean remember remember like the Alex Rodriguez contract you know way back when we were younger like that you know broke our brains this is a brain breaker but guess what probably Soto might break this in five years I I don’t we’re all looking at each other going oh wow remember when that stto contract was big we all I don’t really get too stuck on like the intricacies of like this is one of the best players in baseball uh it’s an outlier of free agency people are comparing all these other contracts people have got listen stos and otanis do not become available Every Other Day Christian Walker is not that type of player 5 years older and coming off an arm surgery too and look God bless him looks like he’s going to pitch next year and that’s amazing but it’s a volatile stock let’s not be honest I mean he is a comet he is a bright shining star Otani he is special but it is a little scary because you just don’t know like those Stars sometimes flame out and he’s the greatest baseball player that I’ve ever seen period end of story and I didn’t have a problem with him getting a contract worthy of a hitter and pitcher and people are looking at that saying how can you compare that to woto and I get that because he only does one thing he’s a hitter to which I say yeah but he’s also 25 and for the Mets I think it goes deeper than that I think it’s an organizational Turning Point a touchstone a benchmark all those things where you start to look at the Mets differently finally and they had this really fun run they became the Darlings of baseball other baseball players professional baseball players were tweeting about the Mets games and watching the Mets and rooting for the Mets there was something magical and special going on there there was a Vibe A vibe where these guys were being themselves and you can’t tell me it’s the same vibe in the Yankee Stadium I’ve been a New Yorker my entire life I know the difference I know the Yankees have won a lot more than the Mets I get it and maybe that works but it doesn’t work for everybody and I kind of Wonder too you know do you want to play for the next five years or three years however long Aaron Boon lasts or do you want to play for colos Mendoza who seems beloved by every single guy in that locker room that’s a big deal to the guys on a day and day in Bas your metum is very much coming out and all of that is fine do you not think this is a huge touch Point turning for an organization that’s always been the redheaded stepchild in the city to the Big Brother Yankees see that but that’s not my narrative like I don’t I’m not I don’t live on the east coast I don’t think about the I yeah no I’m not saying it’s not true but I don’t wake up in the morning and go man those Mets aren’t those silly Mets like yeah it’s a thing for the East Coast Diamond don’t you sick of always watching the Dodgers buy up everybody and kick your ass most of years 100% but again that’s those aren’t the things that are my narrative what I do believe this is a changing point is because you now have the core piece the Mets do where they can attract any free agent to want to come and play in New York right now they have the biggest pocketbooks in baseball to be able to pay those players and you have the core players to be able to recruit and you said with the young guys I would STK back because now we’ll let’s start turning this into uh the fantasy side and and like where the impacts are I don’t know if they are going to build up all the young guys they did build up the young guys they actually had that sellout a couple years ago remember where they moved off to deg Grom in Verlander and they got more pieces they have a viable minor league system right now where a smart move when you have all your money tied into a couple players is to develop young controllable players to come up to the majors and they will probably do a version of that but here’s the other thing they have they have tradable assets they have it through the Wazoo they’ve got uh Brandon Sprout they’ve got Tidwell as far as pitchers go both very highly sought after pitchers they’ve got lison heluna jet Williams Drew Gilbert they’ve got pieces to either develop and control or to trade and if I’m the New York Mets during the winter meetings I’m going and I’m doing everything it takes to acquire a guy like Garrett crochet because they made a couple other interesting moves they signed Klay Holmes who they’re going to move to be a starting pitcher hopefully in the Michael King Camp of relievers to starters Lugo I mean look that’s a trend where these organizations have started identifying those guys and you know I wrote about that in the blackbook this year which by the way is available on Amazon on right now go get it wellsh myself wonky penguin the whole crew wrote it last uh but there it is um I wrote about that this trend going towards identifying these pitchers whose metrics show you that you know they figured out the Kinks in the bullpen and now they’re ready to get back on track it was Michael King I mean like not to be very once upon a time and not to be like touty about but like who did I it was my number one picture last year I talked about in his small relief set Lugo both of us we were talking about those same guys King had a and and Michael King had a sub3 ER it just a ridiculously phenomenal year so it’s an organizational just just complete reboot that they have and now they can probably go and they can you know get I would say go get a Christian Walker because Alonzo’s gone and then you can make a big trade and you can build a couple of those young pieces is Alonzo gone I know Alonzo desperately wants to be there would he take more of a Team friendly deal now more than ever I think he’s mentioned that he would I I wouldn’t discount it you know like for the same money though if a team could go get a Christian Walker who’s a gold glove Defender already that might be something they would want to but you also can’t discount what the guys mean to the locker room and some of these and especially like he’s been the dude in that fan base for a long time he’s a beloved member of that fan base I could I don’t a lot of people today new jerk reaction a lot of people pundits out there say well that means pet lonzo’s not coming back probably not but let’s not pretend like it’s not you mentioned acquiring some guys what about a Luis Castillo as a fit too that’s another guy I feel like the Mariners are looking to move of him uh free up some cash so they can improve their offense that’s another guy that I could see being a domino to fall with this whole Juan stto uh stack of cards right now I think it’s a possibility the only problem is is I don’t think the Mariners are a team that are looking to trade out for minor league prospects uh they’re a try to win now team so you know like there are these conversations around like Alec bone that are going out there and it would take major leager for major leager I’m not sure what the Mets would offer maybe it’s a Jeff mcneel but I I just don’t think they would but I do think the um I do believe that the Mariners are looking for Luis Castillo but that’s why I brought out a Garrett crochet because you know jet Williams had a pretty good AFL and really bounced back he was playing center field not just the Enfield he got hurt again though Drew Gilbert showed some signs he still kind of back a little bit Brandon Brandon Sprat there’s a rumor out there not to turn this into Garrett crochet but Garrett crochet uh Bob nigh Andale reported this that the and I don’t believe this but the white socks turned down Ethan Solace and Leo Dev for Garrett crochet and if you look and maybe they don’t want that far off pieces but the Mets who could offer jet Williams who they saw jet Williams got hurt the final game was in the White Soxs Minor League Stadium out here in Arizona they could offer a Brandon sprot who throws 99 a jet Williams and maybe a Drew Gilbert those are three pieces that are close to the majors and then the Mets would have a big rotation piece that and and that is what opens up the floodgates with having Juan stto there uh talk a little bit about fantasy real quick Joey about Soo and then a couple maybe anel I think there’s two guys that stand out one not on the Mets and one on the Mets that are going to really benefit this I know the one of the Mets is going to benefit the Mets yeah and and I agree with you the same guy no it it is the same guy and I’ll let you hit him and then I will hit the guy that’s outside of it uh Juan SoDo though last year the most ridiculous baseball Savant page if you look at his sliders it is top one to just number one uh percentile in the league across the board hit 41 homers 288 seven stolen bases he ended up upping his Barrel percentage uh to 19.7 that was a career high double digit launch angle 57% hard hit rate all these things are phenomenal there’s really nothing to pick apart just want to throw out just a couple little ancillary things to sit on with Juan stto going there because I love this I think him going and hitting two in this lineup you have wherever Lindor is GNA I mean like it’s a phenomenal spot hit two and then the other guy we want to talk about hits three most likely unless somebody else gets yeah and that’s the guy that exactly I’m talking about uh from a ballpark Factor standpoint people might be interested in for left-handed hitters the ballpark factor in general if you’re just looking at like so baseball Savant will do you know like what kind of hitter friendly environment is this the Mets are the fourth worst in baseball for left-handed hitters fourth worst where the Yankees were where did the Yankees go here for left-handers got to be top five uh Yankees were 13th so from an overall ballpark Factor yeah there there’s a big difference and then if you factor it into homers this is the really big discrepancy Yankees were third best in baseball for left-handed hitters for home run Factor Mets for home run Factor 21st in baseball so again I I did this when I broke down will make the argument too that you know the Mets from a left-handed hitting standpoint haven’t really had a lot of left-handed power in that lineup in a very long time the switch hter but other than that like where’s the left-handed power bat from the New York Mets I mean you got it ALS but also takes away batters and stuff that come in there that so that’s got to be factored into it so it’s a little bit when you have half the sample size being a bunch it’s a it’s a very right-handed heavy lineup it’s something that I’ve been negative about about that lineup for a long time I think that is a good number I think that might not be a number that you know will marginalize a little bit when you have a guy like wotto now there in that ballpark bringing that from the 20s into the the middle of the pack and if it plays middle of the pack then lono’s power is going to be fine also agree but it’s not really middle of the pack it’s low but it might bring it to middle of the pack um but just to to finish the thought is IID said this with adamus and people push back like oh d d da and it’s like Hey listen it’s not that because the ballpark factor for San Francisco is bad it’s not that like Juan stto will dep depreciate blah blah blah it’s like well no there’s just there’s like less cushion where now if you’re projecting he’s 40 plus homers every single year maybe it’s like 35 it’s still great it’s all good it’s just the ballpark factor is a little worse I’ll throw this out as a positive though divisionally here and you’re going through the teams Braves Phillies you know tougher teams pretty good pitching but then you got the Marlins and you got the Nationals who’s the dominant left-handed pitcher that you’re facing in the division McKenzie gore that’s about it who’s Philly throwing out there who are the Braves throwing out there Max freed is gone so that that’s a little bit of an extra plus just to throw in the whole scope of uh Juan so so now the beneficiaries and let’s throw it to you because we both agree for the Mets there’s a big benef uh a big hitter that is going to benefit from having Lindor and stto hitting in front of him and we both unanimously say Mark Vientos is someone that is a smash for this year for an RBI perspective I already did a video on him a couple weeks ago you know rising up the ranks of the corners there uh after that postseason and even before it he was such a steady Rising player and then the big moments were not tooo big for him now you’re putting wano and that OBP ahead of him where he’s going to see a ton of strikes uh it’s the same thing that happen to Aaron judge Aaron judge was a big beneficiary of woto a huge one so all of Aaron all of Aaron judge’s greatness aside and he’s great wotto helped and Vientos is going to be a huge beneficiary of those guys on base ahead of him because the pitches he’s going to see and the strikes he’s going to see and the fast balls he’s going to see and that is going to make him I think a lock for 100 RBI this year if not a greater number and I don’t think that’s a hot take or crazy at all 14% Barrel rate 46.6% hard hit rate dude ended up hitting 266 with a 246 expected batting average I if Lindor is on it’s going to be rough for teams if Lindor is out and it goes to stto they’re not going to want to pitch crazy to stto it’s going to create opportunities where Vientos is either going to step up or fail he had a lower expected batting average and way too high of a k percentage that is a general problem but as this young hitter who is a dominant power player with great hard hit and power numbers if he advances at all with those guys it’s going to be a monstrous return for Mar Vientos with that team so I love the Outlook and then just to think as well it could get pushed back if they were to sign a guy like a let’s say Christian Walker I think Christian Walker would hit three for that team and vantos would go back but that’s one big beneficiary let me give you a beneficiary that is not on this team Jason Dominguez with the New York Yankees I wrote this up in the fantasy blackbook talking about Dominguez that he is still Prospect and rookie eligible he’s my number one Prospect right now and I think people have Prospect fatigue with Jason Dominguez because they’re like oh yeah blah blah blah but guess what there’s still dominant numbers and he’s now going to get his opportunity in that lineup now I mean I suppose they could go make some big trade but there’s just one less roadblock in front of Jason Dominguez who has doesn’t have the traits of Wan sto but he’s a speed guy on a team that hasn’t run a lot hopefully they make that change he’s a power guy he puts up big hard hit numbers and he has a chance now to lock into consistency and I don’t think and it’s kind of an afterthought for a lot of people so I really like the prospects by the way what do we just talk about for left-handed hitters and the ballpark factors I like the prospects for Jason Dominguez from a fantasy perspective this year without the WAN stto block even an afterthought the Yankees aren’t done either the bottom of that order is no good uh they’re going to figure things out I would not be shocked if they were aggressive on the pitching Market too so a lot more winter meetings going on here a lot of shoes to drop and a lot more uh players to land in some other but are there more cigars to smoke Joey there was one cigar my friend there was one cigar for this show and it was for Juan SoDo and I’ll tell you the best thing about cigars you could gesture with it that’s the best thing the big fake cigar and I’m GNA tell you another thing again Aaron judge great when you take away Juan SoDo and you and John Carl St another year older anony Rizzo’s done it’s difficult for great players to be great without some help so the Yankees are going to have to get him some help because there’s not enough of it right now vul’s a nice player jez chism’s a nice player they need something else in that lineup I don’t know what it’s going to be yet but we’ll figure it out pretty soon but regardless uh a huge move by the New York match uh does it change look the one thing you have to realize too is we typically get these players whether it’s Harper this guy that guy you know they sign these big contracts and sometimes they get off to slow starts because of all the pressure I don’t know if juano is that kind of dude I I don’t know I think he might be one of the few that it does not matter uh he’s one of these players that plays better when the bright lights are on too um and not everybody’s like that just just go back and look at that Evan Gattis uh uh what was it that that bat he took there in the playoff I mean just incredible moments don’t seem lost on him I remember in the playoffs uh in the World Series back in the day with the Nationals where was it bregman who had the Home Run and flipped the bat and then he got up there and hit a home run the next inning and flipped the bat and he got in trouble for it and stuff like that cuz he was moing him and every got that’s one SoDo like he plays baseball almost like it’s this weird one-on-one matchup and I think that that is really unique and it’s fun and look for the Mets who had just Good Vibes last year this a lot more than Good Vibes this is a franchise talent and they haven’t had a lot of those it’s the biggest move the Mets have made since Mike Piaza and that was also a move that really culturally changed a lot there so uh it’s going to change a lot fantasy and we got a lot of fun stuff make sure you subscribe to the channel too on our YouTube Channel Fantasy Bros MLB we’re going to have a lot of content in the offseason and even more in season so be with us for all of it that all do it for us but the story of the game goes on for the Welsh I’m Joey P we’ll see you next time kids [Music]
