[Music] hello everybody and welcome into bad for baseball the baddest baseball podcast on the internet presented to you by betway I’m your host Nicholas playlog joined alongside by Adam ped the big signing happened everybody Juan stto is going to be a New York Met for 15 years to the dismay of a lot of New York fans but not New York Mets fans they are obviously over the moon they finally well I was going to say they finally got their guy they got various other guys before but this one feels especially good for them because they’re stealing it away from that other New York team that has done that to them so many other times in the past stto to the Mets what does this mean for the New York Mets what does this mean for the Yankees what does this mean for the free agency market as we are now officially in winter meetings should be a lot of Trades should be the draft lottery should be a lot more to happen with this news breaking and then just with the winter meetings happening overall kind of the first big Domino before we get into all of that Adam how you doing uh you know I’m doing uh I’m doing good I’m actually glad that Juan stto signed last night we were live on our Blue Jays today Channel with the full reaction and I’m glad it’s over you know cuz I was waiting for this winter meetings to happen I was hoping that there would be some more dominoes falling and the big one that needed to fall before any trades or major signings happened was Juan stto and I’m actually glad that him and Scott por got it all done unless of course you’re the LA Dodgers which we’re going to talk about later but LA Dodgers the San Francisco Giants that had no part of the oneota swe stakes you know and as well the uh the Baltimore orol getting the job done there’s a lot of moves that have happened that we’re going to talk about but there’s all these other teams like the Toronto Blue Jays the Boston Red Sox the New York Yankees those are teams that right now they were chasing jua it was the big roadblock it was a giant roadblock for these guys and it was a giant roadblock for a lot of guys like Corbin Burns Max freed Pete Alonzo etc etc because those guys waiting for those three teams to go and figure out if they’re getting W soda or not so that they can go back to those guys go hey this is our buncher for you now exactly right and I especially think too about those kind of like the tier 2 outfielders effectively just being Tay Oscar Hernandez and Anthony sond Deere now you did see Tyler O’Neal go to the Baltimore Orioles a couple days ago but he kind of felt like a tier three outfielder if he had to rank all the free agents sere and Theos Hernandez are still two very quality guys who you are going to pay a lot of money for but you obviously need to know if we’re going to get woto or not before you can commit to them so their Market I would imagine is really going to heat up in the next couple days it is it is absolutely I mean that’s let’s jump to that right now while we’re on that topic you had uh I believe it was uh Mark fead came out with the port yeah Mark fead came out with the support yesterday everybody at 3:00 saying the Red Sox intend to pursue Taos Hernandez if they don’t sign stto pers Source well they obviously didn’t sign stto so you got to imagine that that is going to come into fruition they’re going to be chasing after tasar Hernandez uh Boston is also believed to prefer Hernandez over Anthony santon fin s continues and the Jays are also in the mix for Hernandez although it appears that they prefer the switch hitting santon so you’re starting to see yeah maybe the Red Socks they go look over at Tas gandz maybe the Blue Jays go look over at Sant Daren everybody wins everybody gets their guy except there’s still the Dodgers and they’re still the Yankees got to go get exactly right and and the Dodgers uh they did go out and they did get uh Willie adamus and then they did go or sorry not Willie adamus they got Blake Snell they also got Michael conforto and then there was all that speculation being like Oh well because they got Michael conforto like he’s an outfielder he’s like a tier three outfielder kind of like the you know with with an O’Neal type of player right could be very good but we’re not entirely sure maybe that takes them out of Tay Oscar Hernandez running nigh nigh it’s la are still very much in the Tay Oscar herandez sweep six maybe this like you know cools the fire under their ass just just a little bit but ultimately like if they offer him the money that he wants he’s going to go back there so yeah that’s just a wrench in kind of everybody’s plans because there’s a lot of teams right now vying for offensive support and you know it it feels like we kind of blinked and it’s like oh wait a second there’s actually not as many guys as we initially thought and there’s still a lot of teams that need to get players well exactly cuz you have all the other teams like the Giants and like uh you know the Baltimore oral that they all knew they weren’t going to be on stto so they’re like okay well let’s just go get our to snatch some people up right and the Dodgers kind of fell out of the soda race very early and they’re like okay let’s go let’s go get our guy and you know knowing the Dodgers if they truly still want Tas Hernandez like let’s not forget that Tas Hernandez really wants to be a Dodger still he do and if if the Dodgers are still going hard on Tas Hernandez well now I even have more incentive to go and play you know with the dodg I mean you think about this way you have M bets no longer playing right field he’s going to go back into the infield apparently like you Fang grab saying he’s going to play second base second right so right now your right fielder is Andy PES I mean t Hernandez Andy PES I think there’s a much bigger upgrade right there so like you’re just going to Bo boost your lineup even more than you initially than we all initially attended if you go get T granis and that would leave everybody else in the dust yes of course right and like the Dodgers are in such a good spot because uh you know I always put it this way in the event of a tie and what I’m referring to there is if the money is the same they win they win in fact I would also argue that in the event of a 10% discrepancy in monetary value so let’s just say the Toronto Blue Jays for instance or any other team was offering 10% more than what the Dodgers offered for T Oscar Hernandez I still think they win you know you got to do more than that though if you start getting you know 50% more more than what they’re offering then okay ta is going to go to where you know the money’s obviously going to talk but they will win the T Oscar Hernandez sweep Stakes if they want to win them right which then effectively leaves just Anthony santon Deere in the Outfield Market when you have the Yankees and the Red Sox and the Blue Jays and then like oh also every other [ __ ] MLB team that is going to want a quality player like we haven’t even talked about you know the Seattle Mariners do they want to go out and do they want to get I mean it’s exactly right there’s going to be other random teams entering into the mix here because this isn’t the wano sweep Stakes anymore right you know almost any team barring the Tampa Bay Rays could go and afford a sond Deere if they really wanted to and this is the risk of going in on someone like Juan stto and talking about the Blue Jays this is exactly what happened him last year and guys look at what happened to the Toronto Blue Jays when they went all in for sh Otani they won 74 games last year they had Justin Turner and ikf on their roster and then you’re looking over at the Yankees right now hell I just brought this up to you I was just going to say like I wonder if the same thing’s happening to the New York Yankees right now could happened yo they just went to the World Series they have all this great pitching and blah blah blah blah blah and then well now you’re going to have to make a lot of moves to make that lost you know argu you know your second best player of in the course of last year you know you lost the MVP 3 last year you you and in mvp3 that could be mvp4 in the entire entire League last year hell could be MVP 1 at any given moment right now this was posted by talking baseball they I think they’re taking off of this from MLB networks but this is the Yankees lineup everybody Anthony vulpi Jazz Chism Jr Aaron judge I mean okay Austin Wells is hitting now behind Aaron judge which I think he was actually last year Gian Carlos Stanton Jason Dominguez what are you gonna get from that guy DJ lameu he’s still alive Oswaldo Cabrera and then Trent Grisham Jr that guy bats under two 200 if that’s the lineup they roll up next year if they miss out on a Taos Hernandez and Anthony santon or an Alex bregman or whatever that is going to be a recipe for disaster uh yeah like I’m I’m looking at some of the guys right now man and again like in a vacuum some of these guys aren’t horrendous like Austin Wells for instance last year this is not great it was 354 at bats but he batted 229 and he had an Ops of 718 so again like not horrendous but batting behind Aon judge that’s not what you need that’s a lot of intentional walks right there exactly right you know you look at Anthony vulpi and this is somebody who needs to elevate his play right I know that defensively speaking the guy is phenomenal but he can’t swing a bat to save his life he last year and this is this isn’t even far off from his career at all but last year he batted 243 uh okay not great he got on base only 29% of the time and he had an Ops of 657 that is not somebody that I personally want leading off he does steal a lot of bases but again like only only getting on base 29% of the time so yeah like when he gets on base he’ll be great but you know we’re we’re missing we’re having a disconnect there right like it just feels like there’s a lot of players on this team on the Yankees team like vulp like Wells like Dominguez like Chisum that I think could be League quality players however it feels like as of right now they would be thrust into some roles that they might not be ready for you know vul for me he could still develop he could still become a good player but I I don’t see that happening at the leadup spot I think you need to set him down at seven forget about him and then and then hope that it you know comes later on he’s a defensive player like that’s what he’s kind of become and I don’t even want to hold out to think that he’s going to break out next year that’d be a lot of wishful thinking the only really guy that they have upside like and Al also well a catcher I think there’s a cap to him a lot of people love him in New York but I think there’s a cap to him Jason Dominguez is probably your only guy with upside he does have some serious upside let’s give him credit you knowes yeah he absolutely does he’s been injured a lot but this is the year to to kind of prove it and if he can break out to let’s say even like a direct New York to New York comparison if he breaks out to like a mark ventos you it’s like oh hell yeah like like that Mark ventos changes the the Mets lineup completely yeah cuz I mean he’s batting I think they have is he third yeah wow okay good and honestly it’s like we look at that and we’re like I don’t want to say like a sure thing but you know I look at that as being okay A a quality player that we hopefully can depend on you know after one very very strong season because I think correct me well I’m about to look at it right now uh I think he like hit a 900 Ops last year was that high oh no 837 he was 900 in the in the postseason I didn’t think it was that high but like I knew that he was very good I mean it’s it’s solid right I mean he gets you know 266 batting average 837 on our Ops 27 homers it’s solid again solid player of course yeah like the the New York Yankees they don’t have anybody like that other than Aaron judge and they need some more guys like that maybe you could argue Jazz at a ceiling at his very tippy top ceiling and maybe not the home run power but like that’s that was actually a huge trade for them last year they didn’t even have Jazz Chism it’s looking bad and then on the other side of things with the New York Yankees on the pitching side I mean yeah they got G Cole Ren Clark Schmidt Marcus stor and L heel I think they’re going to be very good in the rotation that’s going to be solid but the bull benen you did lose clay Holmes that guy’s gone he’s going over to New York as well I know yeah they’re just kind of like literally stealing all of this World Series roster you know I and I know that uh you know New York Yankee fans don’t really love Kay Holmes I get it but again like that’s somebody that for the last several years it’s 63 Innings yeah every year and he saves ball games for you and like they’re they’re quality Innings too I know he’s blown some saves but they’re quality yeah and like right now they got Luke Weaver set up as their closer which I mean he’s still good he had a 289 ER last year I mean solid uh but then after that like they only have one of the guy under three which a threea which is Jake cousins you know Ian Hamilton Mark Leander looks kind of bad last year Nest Cortez has been kind of falling off a bit you know Scott fros does not look good when they traded for him two years ago you know y yandes Gomez don’t even know that guy JT brw Braker like who who are these guys like they got a little bit more work to do on the bullpen side of things if they r into this offseason which or in this next season with this team it could look like an 80- win team well it’s yeah it’s certainly not looking as good as it did when you had Juan freaking stto in front of Aaron judge and I think that New York Yankee fans they know that and I think that um you know the I would hope that the management of New York knows that too credit work creditors do they were up there in their offer for stto a lot of people even us were kind of considering that they weren’t that they were capping out at500 $600 million that was not the case they were right there at 760 million for sto $5 million away from from what the New York Mets had so I mean if you’re a Yankees fan you can’t be too upset at your management like they did give it the old College try here and honestly that was just Steve colen being crazy now you need to see that $760 million though reinvested yeah and honestly for blue jay fans this [ __ ] sucks because it means that literally every free agent that we have have our eyes on Boston Red Sox too um you know the Yankees they are kind of in desperation mode as well now and they are going to be really trying to get Pete Alonzo and Anthony sond and Max freed all of these guys are going to try to bring them in pin stripes and imagine you know we were looking at the wota sweeps a big thing for the Toronto Blue Jays where well you you’re a losing team and you really have no future and now that argument could be used yet again against you against the Pete Alonzo and the tasar of the world where it’s like there really is nothing here sustainable sorry are you talking about New York or talking about the Blue Jays the blue JS the Blue Jays yeah like that was the big argument in the whole woda sweep Stakes was that there was really nothing going for them like they had that big disadvantage and now you’re going up against New York and Boston again but just in a different you know sweep stakes and you’re you might lose out if you’re offering the same dollar amount yeah exactly I mean like you got to Hope though with these other guys um you know like they’re not as I don’t know what I’m trying to say right now but you need to offer more for these other guys right be dumb big dumb and stupid whatever the quot was exactly yeah it’s like big and stupid stupid uh yeah you got to you got to do some some big and stupid stuff if you’re the Jays and probably the Red Sox as well cuz I I do think that there’s going to be a level of desperation from these New York Yankees after losing out on Wan sto like this I’ve already I’ve been seeing multiple clips of like Yankees fans flipping out online like I obviously saw the talking Yanks guys and honestly they were pretty reserved and conservative about it uh like it felt like like they they were obviously upset uh but they had kind of already pre accepted that this was a thing um but like I saw a Yankee fan Drive outside City Field and was like showing wot to the garbage dump that like he had he had picked and was you know freaking out um so I mean Yankee fans are are certainly very upset about this and that’s usually something that the Yankees management typically tries to rectify rather quickly um see if they do this offseason we’ll see though guys we’ll see uh let’s uh let’s give a really quick shout out guys to the sponsor of this podcast right here bway hit your picks and knock it out of the park with bway scan the QR code on the screen or click the link in the details section to join the action available in Ontario only must be 19 plus please play responsibly we’ve got more Monday Night Football going on right now Dallas Cowboys and the Cincinnati Bengals I mean the Bengals have had a horrific season but Dallas Cowboys Dallas Cowboys they’re at home for this Monday night game and holy moly are they The Underdogs three times multiplier right now for the win draw and win kind of a cash but if you’re just doing money line it’s 285 whereas the Bengals the money line is 144 the spread is uh negative 5.5 for the Bengals and then plus 5.5 for the Cowboys those are the exact a same odds at 190 that’s I go ahead go ahead well I’ll tell you right now I I personally think um I mean like betting on home dogs uh is usually a sound strategy like if you’re at home and like you know they’re they’re putting you as the underdog by a decent amount like typically that’s supposed to be smart money um but I I think that the Bengals cover tonight I think that negative five and a half I think that Joe burrow is going to put up some big time numbers here and I just don’t know if if the Dallas Cowboys are going to be able to move the ball quite as effectively so yeah well I might be crazy here but because because they’re at home and they’re dogs and the Cincinnati team like it’s just Joe burrow everything else about the Cincinnati Bengals is just garbage it’s just it’s everything’s been exposed about them I think I actually kind of like the spread for the Cowboys five and a half plus five and a half you know can you get it within you know like a a field goal maybe you never know I think I kind of like it right it’s not impossible I think I kind of like it you know we’ll see how it goes I mean I don’t trust Cooper rush or really Dallas Cowboys at all but you know I I mean they playing a little bit better as of late you know with Cooper Rush getting settled in there and things you know give him the cowboy spread I kind of like it all right you guys list know in the comments down below who do you have Bengals or Cowboys in this Monday night AFF Fair shed out once again to bway everybody uh let’s move on and talk about some of those other moves that have already happened right we were kind of touching on it a little bit you know the Dodgers been very active with Michael conforto but I don’t think we’ve had an opportunity to talk about With That Big Willie Adama steel that transpired to the San Francisco Giants you know players are starting to fly off the board that was one of the tier 2 free agents I would argue after Juan stto you know a very very quality bat very good short stop kind of a you you know Swiss army knife can play almost anywhere type of thing they did give him a decent amount of money and it’s kind of set the table for what I would predict an Alex bregman or a um who else is up there maybe a Pete Alonzo from pitching side of things like a Max free MAX free you know it feels like we’re going to have a lot of players in that $182 million range yeah same amount of money that Blake Snell got by the way 182 different years different years seven years but still a lot of money and this is a full no trade clause no deferrals um it’s a it’s a good it’s a good contract I mean you look at Willie Damas too like you know he’s been around for so long people think he’s like old dude’s only 29 you you know that’s a good age to be signing somebody because you’re going to get a lot of production and he had some of his best years in the last little bit right like in 2024 this past season dude hit 32 home runs year before 24 year part of that 31 so he’s going to get you his home runs right that’s for sure um the batting average always going to be a little bit lower but what I really like about Willie odam is is that when he does get on base this past season he really showed his legs 21 stolen bases I mean that’s a 2020 player right there that you could put at the top of your lineup to do a little bit of damage you know base versus the batting average is very good it’s like 80 points higher and when I look over at the San Francisco Giants I mean like they’re sneakily building a pretty good team and an also pretty good defensive team like they just extended Matt Chapman at the third base bag Willie adamus is going to be slotted in into shortstop because they just had Brandon Crawford retire like it’s starting to look a little bit exciting they got y Huli this last offseason playing center field for them that’s exciting like they had Tyler Fitz Jed one of the breakout kind of guys last year it’s starting to look like a really exciting team man I mean I think that they’re certainly better than a lot of people give them credit for they might not be as as electric or exciting as some of the other squads around MLB but I mean they’ve just always kind of been there and I could see that Squad coming out and you know winning mid to high 80s ball games next year right kind of sneakily doing so now obviously it’s a difficult division having to play 13 games to the LA Dodgers every year and then also you know Arizona like I know you know the Padres like you do get 13 free ones with Colorado but you know kind of everybody has one dog in their division and and that’s yours so yeah it’ll always be a tough division but I I do think that San Francisco will probably get slept on again walking into this season um and not saying that they’re going to win the World Series or anything like that but I I would assume that they’ll be a lot better than people anticipate yeah and and they’re good going to need a a little bit more I mean that lineup is already starting to look pretty pretty solid I mean like there’s not a lot of holes around that lineup you know the mwe Jr is also a dude that we kind of forget about this guy almost had an Ops of 800 last year like that’s that’s a little exciting guy but their rotation I mean probably needs a little bit more work they got obviously Logan webbley in the charge remember Robbie Ray that guy’s a a San Francisco Giant but he had a really bad year I think he was injured too he only started seven games uh Jordan Hicks he was injured as well but he has first crack at starting in a while and he had a 410 ra maybe he could be somebody but after that like it’s kind of some question mark so they they need to go and they need to sh up that rotation if they really want a chance in the NL West so I mean but adding Willie Damas definitely helps yeah absolutely now I want to Circle back actually I missed this one earlier but I think we got to talk about it cuz it is crazy the W stto contract defitely yeah we we brought up the fact that it was 15E $765 million um but this is kind of insane stuff right here so he was looking for an opt out he wanted some different opt outs and I kept saying it’s like I don’t think the teams are going to want to give him that because it’s just so difficult to to not only pay somebody as much money as he’s getting paid but then you know you want if you’re doing that you want to be able to plan for him forever right right so this is really smart and I didn’t even think about this I don’t think you thought about this either like the way that they’ve structured this and the way that they’ve done this but the fact that they’ve included the opt out which then can be voided by the New York Mets that’s what I said the Blue Jays should do I I was saying I’m like Blue Jays have to include something like this but keep going keep going so effectively how it works everybody this is this is a direct quote from Bob night and gayy tweeted this out saying wait if Juan sod’s 15-year $765 million contract wasn’t stunning enough it can actually be worth $ 85 million if the Mets want to void sto’s opt out after the 20 20 9 season because after 5 years of playing with them he has an opt out that he can he can enact but if they want to void that they must increase his annual salary from 51 million to 55 million beginning in 2030 so they’ve literally like they’ve accounted for the inflation for how contracts are going to go up so it’s like okay he’s he’s worth $51 million right now if you want to hold on to me in 5 years now you got to pay me 55 absolutely dude so I was saying this exact same thing cuz they the idea came from Garrett Cole’s contract with the opt out although they just added one more year but I think what makes more sense is increasing the increasing the average annual value because of that inflation like cuz that’s that’s what scares a lot of people well in 15 years my 51 million could look like a steel you know or what I mean it’s going to be 41 years old so maybe it doesn’t but the point being it’s like if I’m still putting up those numbers you’re getting a nice deal right now apparently there’s going to be vlat getting you know paid a lot of money and doing similar things maybe who knows uh and maybe some other young Superstar coming out of the Woodworks and doing what I’m doing so I think it’s a genius a genius thing and and I think this is great too because this also incentivizes the player play exactly right like you got to play well enough to then be willing to take the opto and then they’ll be like oh wait no actually we’re just going to keep you you know like cuz ultimately you’re only going to opt out if you’re playing good and you think that you can get more than 51 million average annual value so it kind of incentivizes both parties to like all right we got to keep we got to play or like we got to build a winning ball Club you got to play good everybody’s happy and from a New York Mets standpoint I love this because now it’s like okay we can plan around our guy we know that it’s like if we want him to be here we can have him here for all 15 years yeah yeah I I and it totally makes sense so guys if you miss out a w soda maybe you get him in 5 years you never know right maybe yeah here’s the thing I’ll say this you’ll be bad exactly right in 5 years you wouldn’t want to have him because he clearly wouldn’t be worth whatever it is that you know he’s getting paid no exactly so it feels like more times than not he probably will still remain he he retain with the New York Ms here’s the crazy thing if he did opt out just hypothetically in that five years he would have earned 305 million including the signing bonus of $75 million which makes it an a of $61 million so if you really look at it that way like oh worst case scenario I just signed a 5year $35 million contract that’s more than 99.9% of MLB players we ever made yeah I mean Otani if you forget the deferrals is 70 aav yeah this guy’s 61 yeah basically you know what I mean and that’s a fiveyear you know span that’s a fiveyear span I mean it’s amazing it’s it’s insane amounts of money guys it is truly bananas and everybody’s kind of coming out of the woodwork here even non blue or non sorry blue fans but B fans in general are coming out and talking about how insane this contract is because I believe it was like the biggest contract in you know North American sporting history or that it literally was broken the record last year by set by showy Otani correct yeah no people and it’s funny our group chat too that we all watch football everyone everyone always ask I don’t understand how baseball contracts work like how is he getting paid 700 and this much money um two things no salary cap and Rich owners and and really comp and really compet three things really competitive Rich owners that want to have bigger balls than the other Rich owners exactly like that’s what it comes down to right because we can all agree it is stupid it you know it when you really think about it it’s like you got a roster of 26 guys this is one out of nine players who will come up and actually impact the game in a dramatic way maybe four times a game right you know to be giving that guy $51 million a year right yeah it’s stupid and and our one friend brought up on our group chat well like Steve Cohen bought the Mets for three times amount of what soda’s contract is so you’re getting a third of what the Mets are worth to this one guy to this one guy so I me to try to make the bets better I mean I mean again granted over 15 years but still like that’s quite literally insane of course like it is stupid it is stupid juon sod is an incredible player he doesn’t deserve that amount of money I don’t think anybody in the sport of baseball deserves that amount of money unless legitimately you hit a home run every single at B in which case all right we’ll give you a billion dollars yeah okay yeah then you’re definitely a billionaire for sure yeah yeah we might even just give you all the money you know um but no seriously it’s like it is a stupid amount of money and this kind of begs the question for a lot of people well what’s next you know what’s next where is this going the next kind of young Superstar maybe not necessarily the same caliber of of woto but still really really good the next player to to hit the open market pretty jeed to anyways is Vladimir Guerrero Jr you know first baseman Toronto Blue Jays last year uh what was it MVP 7 MVP 8 something like something along those lines I think he was his Ops ended up being around 940 like very very quality player we know that he’s good not as consistent as wotto and I think that we can all agree that wotto is a tier above vlat but vlat is still a great great player and he’s going to be 26 when he enters the free agency market so now you know everybody’s wondering and I imagine him as well like kind of looking at that and going damn like I could make a shitload of money yeah a young really talented guy that’s what could make him a lot of money I’m looking at it right now these are the top guys at the next class right vlat Bo bashet Trevor story Josh Naylor Lou oras Max mon Isaiah K of FFA aie albz Brandon low these are just to the guys yeah that’s it those are the most notable names I just looked up in the top market value to you tell me who everyone’s going to be gun GL kind of dominates there’s certainly some other guys that I’d be interested in but like you know in terms of you know a a tier above everybody else it does feel like Guerrero is on his own separate tier there and you know there’s been a lot of speculation around Blue Jays fans us and you know of course right being tal Blue Jays fans um but whether or not they’re going to be capable of extending Vladimir guo Jr and I I look at that contract and I see like I just don’t think that there’s any [ __ ] way there’s no way honestly I hell I’d even tell vlat dude don’t extend with well don’t extend with the Blue Jays first of all if I’m you don’t know where this team’s going you have no idea look I know you love playing for the Blue Jays they’re your home we we you’re a homegrown Talent we love you but next off season we’re going to have to prove to you that we love you that much equally as much because we’re going to have to prove it in the dollar amounts you’re going to have the Yankees if they don’t get a Pete Alonzo you’re going to have the Red Sox they need a first baseman you’re going to have obviously the Toronto Blue Jays you are probably not g to you might have the Mets they don’t even really have a who’s is Mark no he’s Third Base you are going to have the Mets you’re going to have to compete in com and commit that money so looking at the Blue Jays offseason this year like is it smart for them to if they really want to retain Guerrero do they just hold on and not spend a crapload and then save up and then splash the bank on Guerrero I don’t know that’s what it’s gonna have to be your Tron blue I wonder like maybe this is a good thought experiment and maybe we can talk about this on our our blue jay Today Show later today but I wonder what the number would be to be able to convince him to sign right now because you know again like to paint the picture for everybody here vat’s 25 turning 26 I think he’s 26 turning 27 is that is that true yeah he’ll be 27.7 age when a frer next year okay so he’ll be one year older than wano all right my my mistake everybody I think that’s cuz he had that additional ARB year that really it was it was weird yeah really screwed him over right there anyways he’ll be one year older than Wan stto he still has one more year of baseball to play MH anything can happen in that year he could play like [ __ ] he could get injured you know there’s just there’s so many different you know God you know his he could get sick right like there’s so many things that could happen that could go wrong MH on the on the flip side of things he could hit 50 home runs and win MVP and look really really good and tantalizing to the New York Yankees to the LA Dodgers to the New York Mets to the San Francisco Giants to any big Market team out there so there is a range of outcomes here now after you see Juan sto your you know Dominican brother out there that you’ve kind of grown up with like both of them have been buddies for a long period of time after you see him get 765 I would imagine that he’s licking his chops and going okay I put up one more good year maybe I don’t get that but can I get 600 could I get 500 maybe what’s the number for him right now that would really start to convince him it’s not worth taking the risk of playing a whole other year I think you got to give him similar OPD outs to wodo I mean if if I’m looking over at Wan soda’s deal I’m like that’s a pretty good idea right there to include those kind of like you know incentives for me to play good and then after a certain year I can opt out and then you can just bring me right back but you got increase the dollar amount I brought this up again like on the blue Jase Today Show where you got to offer him I mean I don’t really know what the total number be like let’s say all this pre wota stuff what was he valued that 350 I think it was like Ken Rosal or Jeff pass came out said it was three something like that 350 could be upwards 400 wait sorry this for Guerrero Guerrero yeah oh oh I would say prean sto yeah like 300 to 350 something like that right so if that’s the kind of number we’re looking at you add some big competitive guys you know going to get them could it be 500 could it be 550 I think you got to include some sort of deal where you know in this contract after three or four or five seasons there is you could opt out but we got to increase that number by a shitload we got to we got to go above and beyond and maybe that brings that total up to the 500 Mark that he could potentially get you know what I’m saying yeah no I think like for me um like I think if if the Toronto Blue Jays are genuinely serious and and this is something that I think would at least now that we’ve seen the onoto contract and all that I think that you can if you’re Guerrero start to look at this number and think to yourself okay like maybe this is worth me not taking the risk um I think it’s like you got to come to the table with like $400 million at least um and I think like at at that point that’s when again I don’t know Guerrero maybe he’s you know maybe he he just really wants to buy it on himself but I guess for me personally if I saw $400 million on the table today right now I would start to think to myself okay you know like maybe this is good enough for me to not risk a whole another year you know so I think that that’s where at least you can start to get a middle ground absolutely and then I think with those included um that opt outs and then like kind of opt back in where the Blue Jays increase your aav like that also plays the other side of the risk where it’s like okay if I am healthy well then I’m protected here too you know like then they’re gonna want to pay me all that money and almost guaranteed at that point so I think that’s what you got to do like you got to convince him like it’s a win-win you know what I mean and let’s say you know you’re kind of in that middle ground and maybe you don’t like it here well now you can opt out you’ll probably get similar money and you will have to just convince you in renegotiate a contract and I think that that’s a win-win for everybody yes right yeah ultimately I don’t think any of this is going to happen though no it’s not because because who’s running the effing ship and it’s it’s a loser and also as well I do think that there is an element of you know Guerrero believing himself and you got to imagine like the these are professional athletes right they’re they’re born competitors um they’ve B they were born to you know believe and trust in themselves and woto has kind of set that precedent there being like like he got an offer for what was it it was like 45050 or something years in years and years ago and that’s looking like an amazing gamble 300 million more you got years go he got that yeah right so I mean Guerrero like I’m sure he’s thinking to himself the same [ __ ] right now where it’s like screw this like I’m going to like okay maybe I’m a slight tear down from woto but if I put up the same year that I just put up again why why not me for for close to $600 million why not you know what I mean like like like I think that that’s a real thing and it’s it again in saying that that is something that we need to talk about now I don’t think it should be this way I do think that like again if if star players are going to get this much money [ __ ] it put the golden that bat rule in For Crying Out Ser if we’re paying them this much money seriously right I know I absolutely agree so that’s going to be that’s going to be something that a lot of blue J fans are going to sweat I mean we thought as Jay’s fans this was going to be like a crazy offseason for stto it was a crazy offseason for shotani next off season I am going to be stressed out of my mind watching the Vladimir Guerero Jr sweep Stakes every day I’m going to be it’s going to be our Super Bowl it’s probably going to be the biggest offseason in this Channel or in Blue Jay’s today Channel History uh it very well could be yeah it very well could be I mean speaking of the Tonto Blue Jays we actually just got some uh kind of not breaking news but speculation here from Ken Rosenthal now Ken Rosenthal is a known Toronto Blue Jays hater everybody uh but he just said on foul territory that he expects the Blue Jays to put a monster offer together for Corbin Burns uh um now that’s kind of the next guy on the free agency tier list and we’ve heard that the Toronto blow Jays are very much in on it we have also heard the Boston Red Sox are looking at him the New York Yankees are certainly going to be looking at him um I think the Yankees frankly especially after that loss to stto yes getting Corbin Burns would be phenomenal for you but if you’re going to invest $250 to $300 million which is again honestly what this guy might be worth at this point I me with the way things are going he could get 300 and I wouldn’t be shocked there’s like there’s just desperation in the air but keep going like if if you’re going to invest 300 million in a guy I think the Yankees should go for an offensive player right now um however I mean they might just go best player available and that is that’s the thing like I was going to say like well you know you can make another equally uh strong argument that the Blue Jays should go for a best offensive player right because of their lineup really only having vat and maybe bashet if he bounces back being a solid bat whereas when you look at the Yankees It’s judge and Jazz right so but I think I think that’s what it is best player available make our team great any way possible cuz like the Yankees rotation Blue Jays also got a decently deep rotation too I think the Yankees is a little bit stronger with Cole at the at the helm but the Blue Jays are also looking to get any best player available as well yeah yeah man uh so that’s going to be like the newest uh sweep Stakes mark now you know it’s Corbin Burns and just like seeing what happens there man and again like with the way that these contracts are going like I said would not be shocked at all if he gets 300 mil and I think he will you know I mean I I actually genuinely think if the Blue Jays are going to get him it’s going to be that type of it’s going to be like a dumb amount of money for you know yeah like the average annual value CU think about it yeah it’s like Corin Burns is already what 30 I think he’s or 31 is he 30 or 31 30 let me actually look this up or you could be what’s he going to be when he starts next year he is going to be he just turned 30 actually so okay okay so so he’ll be like mid3 turning 31 next season type of thing okay um so what’s eight years eight years eight years for what is 800 eight years for $300 million what’s that like 35 bit bit less than tring get my calculator up yeah I’m trying to God I can’t do math in the morning 300 ided 8 is 375 and a half that makes or 37 and a half 37 and a half that makes sense I mean looking at could even see him getting more average Ann that’s a little bit more than coal I’m pretty sure is that a little bit more than little more okay so maybe that does make sense then 8 years 300 million for corbon burns yeah Mak that makes sense hey look I mean from a blue jay’s perspective I think they’re desperate like we know and getting that guy is perfect I mean you’re lean into the identity that you’re just going to be a pitching Squad forget about your Bullpen though you’re going to be a starting pitching well cor cor Burns is going to go eight Innings every every game and you only have to pitch Chad green that’s it you know we only need listen you only need one Bullpen guy if your starter goes you know complete Game pretty regular that’s [ __ ] actually speaking of pitching we I want to bring this up too I don’t know if we did or didn’t but Blake shrining uh going back to the Dodgers back Dodgers the LA Dodgers are such a competent franchise and it makes me so upset like you know they go out and they get Blake snail immediately before anyone they go out they bring back Blake Trin they get Michael conforto they’re probably still going to get T Oscar Hernandez they will also probably get Roki Sasaki like [ __ ] off man yeah like bro like they’re they’re not looking half bad I look at their dude I’m looking at their uh Bullpen there’s not there only one guy over an erra of three which is uh like oh excuse me over in EAA 4 which is Michael gr Grove I think he’s like a starter or something like that like a long guy uh but yeah they’ve got try him back which obviously was their closer phenomenal Michael cop traded for Phillips Bond brazer everyone just phenomenal and and now the rotation if they get Sasaki it’s Snell Yamamoto Otani glas now like are you are you kidding me it’s going to be disgusting I just don’t know how you I genuinely don’t know how you compete with that no I mean and they have the advantage now where like they can go out and early and get these guys it’s like okay what what is that’s the thing our core is so established like we don’t even need to [ __ ] with these other guys like Willer we’ll entertain it but you know what whatever D like Otani bets Freeman you can’t get any better than three MVPs yeah literally you there’s no other lineup that to my knowledge or maybe there’s somewhere I don’t know there’s no lineup to my knowledge that has three MVPs in the top three of line that’s that is just not the case with the best player available and then you know let’s not forget you got Will Smith after that who’s an incredible catcher now we’re going to throw Michael conforto into the mix we got Max Muny who just hits home runs at will sometimes if you get gzz back like again like this is it’s stupid stuff going on right now and their rotation is insane and their Bullpen is insane speaking of Roki cat sasi everybody 11 minutes ago Mark Fon just posted out and saying that he has officially been posted uh teams are are able to start negotiating with him as of Tuesday so tomorrow with a window to sign him between then in January 23rd so the The sasi Sweep Stakes should start tomorrow they should man and uh probably going to be a dodger but I hope I hope he doesn’t man I hope he goes somewhere more exciting and unexpected like Otani went with the angels yeah even if it’s not to like our team just you know if he goes to somewhere that’s that’s unique because it is listen it’s getting old fast yeah it’s getting old real fast yeah and you know what baseball feel like it feels like the last year ever since the otoni thing like teams have been just becoming super Juggernaut teams and I don’t like it dude it’s honestly like it’s since Steve Cohen kind of took over and he came in here with this new mentality of like we’re going to spend all the money under the sun and you know yeah it didn’t necessarily work out for him right away but then the Texas Rangers did the exact same thing yeah like Also let’s not forget about them like Texas World Ser that’s the thing like they’re quiet right now but you know next year are they going to be and Guerrero why not I mean like like they they kind of they’re taking their year off right now you know true build up the money and that’s why I think like genuinely the we’re kind of bouncing around now but like whatever like that’s why I genely think like the Jays were everyone’s waiting for them to do something big and stupid because they haven’t been spending they didn’t spend any money last year exactly you know and they should be a big Market team but yeah it’s like ever since Steve Cohen came in here and started spending money left right in center it feels like now everybody is like oh okay well if I don’t spend crazy money that guy’s going to spend crazy money let’s just let’s buy everyone out here and and you know try to win a World Series like that got to get even crazier so this this is the beginning of the winter meetings everybody this is coming out on Monday and by the time we have our next podcast it’s going to be it’s going to be over and we’re going to have a lot to talk about there might be some big trades I think so who knows who knows
