Road losses to kraton and to Missouri despite being on the road still a little bit surprising about those results welcoming an NC State team that’s been a bit up and down to start the Year Connor what are you looking for out of the wolf pack I mean I think it’s just stay competitive right in this game like you’re going up against a Kansas team on the road that has National Title aspirations you as NC State have not been playing your best right you you got the win at home you over time against Florida State but basically every other team you’ve played has been a loss and a loss by double digits uh Texas was four points but outside of that like Purdue was 10 BYU was 11 um this Kansas State team as you mentioned coming off a two loss week it’s gonna want to be going to want to kind of put the the gas pedal to the floor and run you over so if you’re NC State it’s just keep it respectable I think at this point and and that’s not necessarily something that a team coming off a final four is likely to have as their goal but I think if you’re an NC State fan and you have expectations for this game to me it’s just you know don’t let Hunter Dickinson have his way with your front front Court make sure you contain Dean Harris as a playmaker Zeke Mayo AJ store limit the damage they can do but like I have a feeling canis is going to come out in this game in front of their home fans with a fervor in Allen field house and run over NC State and I think NC State’s goal should be just I think more so improving on the defensive end than the offens EV end um because there’s not a lot you can do offensively in Allen Fieldhouse yeah I I think as odd as it might sound looking at this matchup I feel better about the NC State front Court than I do the back court and that I say that because you know you mentioned Hunter Dickinson with trying to contain him I think Ben Middlebrooks has sneakily been awesome for this wolfback team so far like he’s he’s looking like he’ll at least be a Darkhorse contender for ACC defensive player of the year I think NC State needs to be good I think they they probably need to finish top half of that League to do so but he’s top 30 in the country in Block rate it’s close to a 4% steel rate as well um I just think he’s been really impressive and has largely been better better than Brandon Huntley Hatfield who was the more like bigname uh transfer portal acquisition that they brought in at that Five Spot next to him they’ve gotten some good minutes out of dant Styles as well he who was inconsistent at both his prior stops with with UNCC in Georgetown he’s had three straight double- digit games he’s shooting 38% from three on the year for a pack team that like has really struggled to shoot so far um I believe Marcus Hills only made he’s I don’t know his exact total off the top of my head but he’s sub 30% from three um four four for 14 from the from three on the year and Michael oconnell has struggled to maintain the hot shooting he had throughout March last year Styles has been really important to pick up the slack there but the guards to me is where I I give a huge advantage to Kansas I mean I think they still have the advantage with in the front court because Dickinson is the best player on the court but yeah this this Kansas team I think they’re most susceptible when you get production from your backourt like if you look at the Kansas loss they had pop Isaac’s go nuts for 27 points Ashworth contributed 17 um they against the Missouri game tomorrow Bates lived at the line um and had over 20 points in that game as well whereas you know if you if you squint a little you can see Marcus Hill despite not being a three-point threat he does get downhill a little bit which could get give Kansas trouble but I just don’t know if like Jaden Taylor has enough juice to get them over the edge I don’t know if oconnell despite him playing well in March if he’s goingon to G to be up to repeat what he did in the tournament in allenfield house yeah to me the the the big one is is Michael okan like he needs to be a scoring threat cuz he’s been a pretty decent playmaker for NC State so far this season um outside of the four turnovers against Texas he he’s been pretty good with the ball uh setting the te table for his teammates he’s had a couple of pretty good shooting performances this year kind of sprinkled in there but if he can become a threat then it allows the rest of his team to to have more kind of one-on-one matchups um and he’s also he was was the biggest player returning to this team from last season mhm or their final four run I know Jaden Taylor also played a ton of minutes last year for NC State but like when it came down to it Michael oconnell was his his you know surge at the end of the season is kind of what helped fuel them um especially to the tournament uh so I I um I just think like this is this is one of those games big big mismatch you have dwan Harris who’s one of the better defensive point guards in the country matched up with Michael oconnell is going to make things tough for him uh they don’t really have a shooter on this NC State team that I’m looking at and going oh shoot that scares me right dant Styles is shooting well but he’s also like your best Shooters under 40% so yeah under 40% from three-point range so like they’re going to do a lot of they do a lot of their damage to sensey State team inside the arc I’m pretty sure every single player on this team is shooting over 50% from twoo range uh it’s just it’s getting those threes to fall and I don’t know if they’re going to be able to do that in all Fieldhouse so it’s going to be a tough one um but I think if it does if it does happen it has to be Jaden Taylor finding his three ball it has to be ok Connell being a threat um and obviously it you know the the The Bigs just have to play up to their potential against the front Court of Kansas to your point about oconnell needing to recapture some of that March m and Taylor as well I mean Taylor was more consistent throughout the whole season I think he finished with a hair over 36% Michael oconnell in in the month of March on March 12th through the final four which up was April 6th 10 games shot 51.6% from three 51.6 from three over 10 games do you know what he shot in the 31 games before that from three probably like 34% I 28.6 6% yeah so this is like he’s kind of on notied I mean he’s made 32% of his threes this year on a really low volume you like you said I think the key to NC State kind of snapping out of this funk of just being inconsistent up and down getting getting like being stuck in dog fights with teams they have more Talent than is him rediscovering some of that and being a little more assertive and not just looking to play make um another another story line I’m looking to watch out for is the Battle of the on the boards I think NC State’s been a little suspect there as well as athletic and as as much as dantra Styles has decent size he hasn’t really been a prolific rebounder middle Brooks been pretty solid on that end um Hatfield Huntley Hatfield is good as well but just outside of those two which they don’t really play together I think Kansas could extend possessions just with when they have Adams and Dickenson crashing the glass um it’s just one of those matchups where like if you’re NC State you’re looking for any advantage you can get and if you’re you’re if you’re not making Threes And if you’re giving up offensive board WS it could get ugly quickly uh speaking of that the one benefit the one benefit for NC State is that their defense is really good at running you off the line um and it’s not it’s not even like one of those ones where even the the shots you do get are good like the shots you do get are not are not necessarily like really great looks um for your offense Candace on the flip side doesn’t shoot a lot of Threes doesn’t shoot them at a high percentage but I think if it comes down to like a very close game that might be what keeps Kansas from running away is just NC State’s three-point defense both from preventing three-point attempts but also uh contesting those threes that do go up on the flip side they are a piss poor two-point defense so uh that’s where KJ Adams Hunter Dickenson high low at like this is one of those matchups where I don’t think Kansas will feel the negative effects from like Adams and Dickenson not being the smoothest smoothest fit together on the court I think they can they can make that work and exploit that in this game um Kim pom to get their score projections as well personally I I think 13 seems a little bit High just cuz like like NC State they battled with Purdue they LED them in the first half they battled with BYU those were on neutrals though I don’t know there’s a world where I like don’t get me wrong based on how NC state has been up and down I think Kansas could win by 20 plus and it wouldn’t be a shocker but Kansas has been pretty inconsistent as well to where I’m like I see it being like a just another run-of-the-mill 10-point game where maybe NC State’s able to get up early in the first half or maybe make a run in the second half where they’re they’re pushing Kansas maybe they either take a lead briefly or they’re within four to five points and then this but it feels like a game where Kansas pulls ahead late whether it’s like them going to that that pin down play they always run for Dickinson that’s an automatic bucket or whether it’s one of the guards probably Zeke Mayo who comes up or or maybe if it’s even diggy diggy KO who’s been sneakily making big shots all year like one of those dudes hits a big three down the stretch to put it away but how do you see this one unfolding Connor it’s gonna be tough if it is a close game um because this is a Kansas team that what came into last week range number one they go into kraton and they lose by 13 they go to Missouri go down big climb back into it lose by nine so you have to ask yourself is that who Kansas is or and both those teams Missouri and kraton right now are playing better basketball than NC State mhm or is Kansas going to go back to Allen Fieldhouse they have three home games in a row they’re coming off two losses losing their number one rank and then losing to their rival and now they just have like now NC State’s just there right like I don’t think it matters who’s there really unless it’s like I mean if it was an Iowa state or a Houston or someone it’s it’s different it’s a different story but like a team outside the top 40 is just there right mhm this has this has ugly quick potential because remember this Kansas team is the most experienced team in college basketball that’s fair that’s fair they’ve lost two games in a row they lost their number one ranking they lost to their rival on the road like I agree with you in a vacuum I think this game is pretty close I think there is just utter domination potential in this game simply because Kansas is probably coming back they’ve had six days to kind of let the negative emotions subside from that two game losing streak but they also have had six days to like motivate themselves to just go out there and beat the breaks off of NC State Brown and West Virginia for three games in a row at home so I’m going to I’m going to say it’s probably going to be like an 80 to 63 game like not a huge blowout I agree with you I think NC State could keep it close but I do think like Kansas is going to go out there with a purpose um and they’re going to rely on their seniors to dominate I think at the two position like for as good as Mikey oconnell is like Dean Harris is a way better point guard than him and for as good as uh middle Brooks um and uh uh Huntley Hatfield are Dickinson is a better Center than they are right and those two are the heart and soul of this Kansas team so I just I just think like go into this game at home toughest environment or one of the toughest environments in the country 17-point win honestly might be a little conservative but I’ll go 80 to 63 yeah yeah know I like that I like that that call a lot um definitely could see it getting out of hand in this one just with Kansas’s back being against the wall a little bit then ready to make up statement after losing the number one ranking after going
