feistiness to this West Virginia team uh they have not lost since the overtime lost to Louisville in the Bahamas and Kansas is coming off two straight wins against okay opponents uh after their two straight road losses to kraton and Missouri subie this is a game as is any any big 12 game but this is a game I think that Kansas really need needs um if they lose their first game in Big 12 play after the rough stretch that they went through you know I think it it just it leaves a bad taste what are you looking for from The Jayhawks in this game against West Virginia yeah this seems like when I was looking at this matchup Connor it seemed like a matchup between two teams where we may have miscalculated are projections on them like people were saying West Virginia was going to finish in the seller of the Big 12 now that might end up coming to fruition but it’s it’s not because you didn’t think that or you thought that with Tucker de uh it might come to fruition because Tucker dze is out who’s been a flamethrower to start the season so I’m just saying I think we may have undersold West Virginia a bit on the flip side Kansas uh they look vulnerable and honestly sometimes a little disinterested at times like that kraton game that missou game it wasn’t necessarily that missou and kraton were amazing I was just a little concerned with the fight that Kansas brought to some of those games now look they’re still top 10 team in the country very potent they have arguably the best coach in the entire sport arguably the best big man I get all that uh and when they’re locked and loaded and ready to go sure and and funny enough we actually saw that in that Gaga Tournament game last year I know they were battling a lot of internal issues but they got they got destroyed because they weren’t there mentally and I think we’ve seen that with Kansas this season so I’m saying we may have oversold Kansas a little bit uh so this is this is an interesting matchup from The Jayhawks perspective though Connor uh personnel-wise AJ store he’s he’s been a little perplexing this year I don’t know where he fits as it relates to I don’t know their totem pole or their hierarchy uh I would say he might be number six right now in the pecking order right like I think Hunter Dickinson is clear-cut number one I think you got Dean Harris you got then Ryland Griffin and KJ Adams Zeke Mayo you could probably throw in there as well and then there’s AJ store um I just don’t know if if he’s had like I think he needs another few big-time performances and this might be the spot for it but AJ store seems to have gotten lost in the shuffle amongst all those awesome transfers that they brought in right like mayo and and Ryland Griffin but I I think I’m expecting and hoping for AJ store to find his footing as they uh they embark on on Big 12 Play So from a Personnel perspective that’s what I’m looking at anything uh on your end that you’re looking have from a team or personal perspective yeah for me it’s it’s AJ store is probably when you’re talking about players that you want to touch the ball offensively he’s probably four it’s probably probably uh obviously Hunter Dickinson and Dean Harris are going to touch the ball basically every single possession Zeke Mayo to me is a playing a little bit more in that give it to him and he’ll make plays role like he’s actually stepped into that role better where he can either get his own shot get to the rim or dish it out AJ store um is the fourth option as a scorer although the last couple of games kind of kind of hasn’t quite been there from a making those shots perspective I think the difference is is that when you put Ryland Griffin and KJ Adams in there they can give you so much more defensively than store and when you have dwan Harris on ball you have Zeke Mayo scoring Griffin and Adams are not bad scores Griffin’s been a little bit better um the last two games but uh I just think it’s it’s not that it’s a weird fit for me I think it’s just a like a he came into this situation thinking he was going to [Music] be the third option in all facets of the game and Zeke Mayo as a scorer has been better and and obviously Griffin and Adams um again they just give you something on the other end of the floor that I don’t think is easy for Kansas to take off the floor um so I don’t know if it’s like I’m down on AJ store I just think it’s given what he was looking for in the off seon this is definitely falling short of that um but maybe not falling short of what we should have expected from him in this in this rotation um with that said I think for me with Kansas it’s just there is one guy on West Virginia that can kill you in this game without Tucker de like there’s a bunch of guys who can score who can play well but if you shut down Javon small you’re winning the this game and the good news for Kansas is that they have one of the best on ball defenders in college basketball and Dewan Harris uh and and even if it’s not Dean Harris like if they have to switch they have really good Defenders and Adams Griffin Hunter Dickinson can clean things up if small gets at the at the rim so like this is a game for me that without Tucker de should be pretty cut and dry just just stop just stop small um and that’s I think it’s most concerning to me is that we’ve seen this before there was a team that they’ve played where there was a clearcut approach to shutting down that team and Kansas didn’t take that approach um so and that I’m being quite that was kraton uh there there was a clear-cut approach to stopping Ryan caul brener obviously pop Isaac’s went off for 30 but caul brener also had 15 he took 11 shots he got eight free throws he had 12 rebounds like he was that was the first game in Forever that cul brener really had a good game we covered so many Craton mte games like he like cul doesn’t care Katon doesn’t care yeah that that jump started them yeah it jump started them and and I think it’s easier maybe when it’s a point guard and you have your best on ball defender on them than it is like containing a big but still if we come out of this game and it’s even close uh you have to look at okay like did they stop small and why didn’t they like put all their efforts into that but uh yeah go ahead go ahead no no go ahead go ahead but at the end of the day I mean I just think this is being played in Allen Fieldhouse this is against a hobbled West Virginia Team without their best or second best player depending on how you put small and Dev in a 1A 1B situation um I’m not going to say there’s no shot but it is a 10o uh 10 point spread on kmom uh the diers Pro game predictions should be up sometime Monday evening uh but for right now uh we are going the game predictions up the the night before uh the Slate of games I think 10 is too narrow I don’t think looking at Kansas looking at what they’ve done I just don’t think that this is a game that they should worry about so I’m going to I’m going to say that Kansas probably wins this by 15 maybe even 20 but I’ll go probably wins this by 15 points to be conservative um and I’m going to say they win this probably 78 to 63 like I just think you have dwan Harris on Javon small and you don’t have Tucker de that’s kind of going to be in my opinion All She Wrote especially in Allen Fieldhouse especially with a Kansas team that like is a top five talented team in the country I think we’re not giving enough credit here to the near so I’m going to do that uh I don’t think they win this game but I do think it’s closer than 10 look West Virginia makes a good amount of Threes that might be limited probably will be limited in the fog Kansas doesn’t turn the ball over very often uh I understand there’s no Tucker debr which by the way is a huge shame not because of how electric of a player he is but this is like a Tucker Dev game in Allen Fieldhouse the F like do you know how many shut the hell up threes he would have made uh when the crowd got going not to say that it would give him the Le but the crowd probably wants to get into it and Dev hits a long three and it’s just like God can you stop this guy so it’s a shame Dev isn’t playing West Virginia plays that tenacious defense the question is will it travel I think it will a little bit but this is a step up in weight class for the Mountaineers uh this is no disrespect to your Bulldogs but this will be the toughest test of the entire season uh thus far for West Virginia like this is the best team they’ll they’ll play and I’m only saying that because of how we’ve seen Gonzaga perform over the last month or so or since that West Virginia lost in overtime but this is a big step up in weight class I would Hazard to say West Virginia they’re like nine deep probably eight deep now with no uh debris but they got players who play like 15 minutes plus 15 17 minutes plus uh so I have a feeling they’re going to be in that rock as crowd in that environment they’re going to be mixing and matching lineups quite a bit and I just want to give credit to Daren D for hitting the portal big time you mentioned small of course but I think another guy who can impact this game is ammani hansbury coming over from Illinois maybe not from a points perspective but he can have his paws in in different facets of the game I just really think dev has brought a level of toughness to West Virginia that we haven’t seen the last two seasons or so and that they’re not afraid I forget what team it was last year but this is a West Virginia team that just isn’t afraid of anyone I don’t think they’re fear ful of going into the fog that’s why I think it’s a lot closer and I’m very complimentary of the Mountaineers but I do think Kansas wins this game 81 to 74 they just got more horses yeah a little wrinkle um in this game that I just just remembered um is that this Mountaineers team obviously they have a lot of transfers um not a lot of players with experience playing in Allen field house except for one Mr yapu is back he’s I don’t know if it’s because they were winning in blowouts but he’s played quite a few minutes the last three games um he didn’t play against Arizona didn’t play against Georgetown didn’t play against Gonzaga but he did play against Louis and pit so I don’t know and IA but I don’t know um how much he’s going to play but I just remember that he was on West Virginia cuz I just remembered he’s still playing college basketball in his sixth season in the sport so he was on the title team for Kansas wasn’t he yep oh my goodness wow they should maybe maybe they’ll do one of those uh video tributes like they do in the NBA for for a player that played like what eight minutes a game yeah um but yeah I I think I would agree with you about the three-point shooting and everything except I think when you go like when you go into a place like Allen making shots is not something that’s easy for for for uh opposing teams but we’ll see we’ll see it’s going to be a a I think a a good challenge a good test and a good way to make a statement for both teams um obviously for West Virginia but even for Kansas like if Kansas loses this game their next opportunity to get a win against a like top 40 top 50 team on kenpom is going to be Road games against Cincinnati and Iowa State in mid January so I
