I can hold it much longer go I be free [Music] Yow what’s up winter meetings week although I will say Juan stto signed and then not much has happened lots of rumors we’ll get to in a sec but you know how some people are like oh once SoDo signs it’s going to be a flurry seconds ler you’re going to see most of the dudes off the board like no I don’t know about that I mean sure I hope we get some activity over the next couple days and I know Katz went on right after the sto signing so we’ll get into some more details about that storyline later the whole sweet gate as some like to call it but can I point something out before we start because we get the talking heads from thank you from other sports chiming in you know like Rex Ryan is talking about baseball we’re supposed to listen to Rex but anyway baseball for the first six to seven years of a player’s pro career and really longer than that if you count the minor leagues pays guys not that well football and basketball you get paid pretty quickly so if you go through the pain of being you know a sub seven figure guy for 3 or 4 years plus the arbitration time period Then you can earn bigcoin I just think the structure is different I just want to point that out because they’re like these free agent contracts are crazy I’m like but also we’ve got dudes like trout Otani SoDo Etc that are playing their first few years as MVPs as seven eight nine 10 win players making nothing the other sports don’t do that so just wanted to point that out so I feel like we get the peanut gallery chiming in about how contracts work in our Sport and they have no idea it’s like when you know how an arbitration deal will swing by AJ and they’ll say hey these two settled they they signed a two-year extension to cover the last two years of arban people pick what that’s all he got it’s like dude you don’t know the ARB system yeah Listen People baseball is different in the way it’s set up but when you hit free agency it’s supposed to be a privilege to get there cuz you have to be six years usually if you’re a good player and you haven’t been non- tendered or you haven’t been released at some point in your career six to seven years true but once you get there it’s supposed to be a privilege and the reason woto got so much was he was so young and where he was at and there’s so much more of his career to go that’s why he was able to get the long super long-term deal um I I don’t know I mean it’s good people are talking about baseball it’s good people are talking about baseball even if they don’t know exactly what they’re talking about at least people are talking about baseball and they really don’t know I mean even like even like AJ’s career is way different than my career my like there’s so many guys 85% of guys don’t ever reach free agency so we hear about the Juan soda we hear about the Bryce Harper but there’s a lot of guys that never make never make even a million in a season the majority never even makes a million in a season so it’s it’s way different so let’s get to trades there’s three names I want to bring up in the next 10 minutes let’s charge them out Charing the names I want to bring up kareah Tucker arado in that order Dan Hayes the athletic great writer says the twins are opening to listening on Korea he does note that that they would need to be Pride away or karea would they aren’t looking to Simply shed Korea’s salary he said last year fan graphs had him at 4.3 war and in his article I’m looking at right now he said you’d have to pay a high premium Derek falby noting that you know when he’s on the field he was one of the best players in the sport yada yada but the twins payroll is about 140 million they had a $130 million payroll last year which they had to shed significantly from 2023 to 2024 because they made the playoffs and apparently when you make the playoffs people come through the gates you make a lot of money but it actually disappears it’s a weird concept that the poad family has an issue with so they’re going to sell the team thank the Lord and this coming season they will not raise the budget so they need to actually trim $10 million to add this all up and AJ my question is why wouldn’t you trade Carlos kareah he’s making a ton of money they signed him when they thought they were going to be a more legitimate team in the league as far as payroll is concerned and that it wasn’t just going to be stuffing the pockets of a kid who woke up on third base as in the owner his salary doesn’t fit for what they’re trying to do no but I don’t think they’re trading him either I think I think he’s not going to get traded I think he’s just some hey we’ll throw out there maybe down the road if teams show interest and we’ll go there but right now they’re not trading them think I I don’t think that they can justify it the fans are already pretty fed up with them cuting payroll every time we have Aaron glean on or any twins Insider on they’re always like the twins are fans are pretty upset that they’re gonna let go with some of these people so for me to sit here and say they’re going to trade Carlos graa it just seems like this is one of of those moves that hey let’s put him out there see who’s interested and then if it gets to it down the road we can know who to call Kats they have to cut 10 million in payroll they didn’t make the playoffs last year so you’re just going to roll out the same team minus a player or two that you have to shed and think give it the good old College try aren’t you trying to win a World Series or you’re not what is this product uh I mean that’s that’s not negotiable here we’re talking about money or we talking about winning a World Series like to me this team is one this team was one brutal streak away and people can say well anybody has a brutal streak they just had theirs at the end of the season this is still a playoff team in my opinion in a surprisingly better American League Central than we thought or maybe a weaker American League whatever you’re going to say you don’t get rid of Carlos Grant he’s anchoring your premier premium position and yes he has to stay healthy on the field it’s another reason you probably wouldn’t get the value if you’re worried about or other people are worried about injuries I don’t think they get rid of them and I think they’re a playoff team they have too much talent to not are they goingon to win a World Series that’s a whole another discussion they they need first of all you’re talking about staying healthy they need buckon to stay healthy for once they need Pablo Lopez to be good Pablo Royce Lewis they need to stay healthy they they need you know Brian Jeffers behind the plate to to be good they they need a lot of ifs and butts and things for them to make a deep run into the postseason so listen trading Carlos kah only makes that worse so and there’s not a Surefire plug in now who would they get for him obviously would make change that but I I I think that yeah they’ll listen offers like they’ll listen offers on anybody if you’re a team you should listen offers on all your players that way you know who’s interested and if it ever gets to that point but I think right now Carlos CA stays with the twins I just think the twins are kidding themselves are you trying to win a World Series or not that’s not the that’s not the that’s not the answer though they’re taking a muddled middle approach which is garbage there’s a lot of teams that aren’t trying to win a World Series so should the should the let’s see should the I’m trying to think of another team that’s not trying to win a World Series we use the Pirates should the Pirates trade everybody on their team because we’re not trying to win a World Series but they’re rebuilding they’re building back up they’re on the 10year rebuild plan how long is Carlos K’s contract a few more years maybe maybe they turn it around in three years right so you’re saying don’t give up just because this year you have to limit payroll yeah maybe maybe maybe there’s somebody in the next year um just hold on because they could get sold and then you know a real legit human with some coones can actually step in run the team so the article says they’re much likelier to trade Chris Paddock who set to earn about seven and a half mil Christian Vasquez who set love to get rid of if they could you can but you’re gonna have to eat what seven that doesn’t help your payroll right or they said Willie Castro who could earn about six million in arbitration that would be a big loss too Willie Castro was really good for them last year an allar yeah all right so you got you guys are a no on kareah let me bring up the next player Kyle Tucker so Chandler roome and the rest of the Houston contingency covering the team talking to GM Dana Brown asked if the Astros would listen to trade offers for Tucker or Valdez Dana Brown replied in part we listen on anybody this is a massive massive 180 from what he said about a year and a half ago and I’ll find the exact quote fber is going to be a free agna this year I get that and they actually have some good pitching Kyle tuck Tu is going to be free agent after this year but at one point Dana Brown said he’s an astro for life and it wasn’t that long ago so maybe you add up the sto deal and that he’s GNA be a free agent coming soon and they don’t give deals after what sixish years Tucker is definitely goingon to get that here I found it early August of 2023 Dana Brown direct quote Kyle Tucker will be an astro for his career no he won’t who’s Kyle Kyle Tucker’s not a Boris guy he’s a XL guy I’m pretty sure but the Astros don’t have a history of going over five to six years Kyle Tucker is still pretty young what’s he 27 28 he’s gonna be looking for more than six years so if you’re the Astros and if you if you if you’ve already said if bregman doesn’t come back you’ve already kind of broken up that World Series core of guys I don’t see why you wouldn’t look into trading Kyle Tucker now when his value will be the higher than it is later into July if you can get two or three or four pieces back that will help you can sustain this run for longer time because you have Altuve you have Alvarez locked up you got Diaz locked up you got PeΓ±a for a bunch of years you got some guys that are still locked up in there you got hater you obviously have a br you’re trying to get rid of Presley but to me this is the time to strike don’t wait and I think if bregman’s not going to come back or do you have to trade Tucker to bring bregman back and then you have to make a decision so that’s where the trouble with this whole thing is is you can’t keep everybody no team can keep everybody it’s some point you have to make tough decisions so is it a bregman or Tucker a bregman or Tucker and fber or do you bring fber back and get rid of Tucker there there’s there’s a lot of questions that Dana Brown has and bregman being on the free agent list is not helping him at the moment because if he had bregman then you could say all right well maybe we can figure something out with Tucker or fber but with Third Base kind of a question mark for them right now bregman loose he has to see what happens there and then he can the good news is he doesn’t have to trade him right now and they have a year to figure this out until they can become free agents but I don’t see them letting another guy walk like they did with bregman and bregman doesn’t come back I don’t see how they can replace what Tucker actually brings except he didn’t play much this year when he did he was running he was running that first month at an MVP pace I would actually take the person in the other in in the other part of that tweet that was out there framber listening on possibly listening on framber and Tucker to me I think they would let Kyle Tucker go in free agency and see what they could get from framber in a trade this off season only because they had three other guys that made 28 or more starts this year they had have been able to he had a great year last year kind of bouncing around the emotional guy I think they keep Tucker and I think possibly once they see who misses out on the max freed and the Corbin Burns they say hey we got a year rental of framber valz I know he’s not Garett crochet but we could get a little something this is CH Uncharted Territory for the Astros they’re not used to this they’re used to all what they do yeah and trading mid- season’s tough too with guys especially because going to be good so that really rips your fan base apart all right let’s hit the break Quick Step Aside Ken rosenal inside dish tons of questions to get to with [Music] [Music] Ken this episode’s presented by hello fresh America’s number one meal kit they love ft we love them I thought Alana Rizzo delivered just the best hellofresh love speech that maybe I’ve ever seen so if you want to go back to that episode just to hear it it was that good you and me were off Katz was on she’s got three or four meals coming through every week she cooks she shows them off on socials she should be the face she should definitely be the face because she she said she even writes notes I I can’t reach it but I have one of my one of my recipe cards right just out of Arms Reach in front of me here but she like writes notes and like o when I get this next time don’t add as much this or that or this is a repeat so she’s like I’m super OCD but she was just raving about all the all the deliciousness yes she was 50 Chef crafted recipes so easy even I can pull it off AJ can pull it off right he’s a cook yeah it’s easy I I actually cook though SK you should try it well I cook Den cook I need I need to be told what to do told what to do hand do at some point but listen yeah you need fresh is great because if you’re a beginner or an expert you can still make the recipe how you want to make it and it comes pre basically pre-cut pre with everything and it gives you the option add more of this less of this whatever it is and that’s what makes it delicious agreed so get 10 free meals at hellofresh.com reft applied across seven boxes new subscribers only varies by plan that’s 10 free hellofresh meals just go to hellofresh.com free ft Ken Rosenthal inside dish try and get to a couple questions we’ll ask him about Kyle Tucker trade possibilities and a lot more [Music] here we go right to Biz the inside scoop it’s Ken Rosenthal the winter meetings powered by MLB Rivals so Ken let’s start with the Astros Dana Brown did say at one point that Kyle Tucker was going to be an astro for life and he did not say that yesterday what are your thoughts on his and framber valdez’s trade chances it’s a really interesting situation and it’s difficult to predict how it’s going to go because it’s difficult to predict what owner Jim Crane might want here now if he wants to keep Tucker he’s going to have to pay him and the Astros have not paid free agent big money under Crane’s ownership remember Springer left kareah left bregman likely to leave he’s not staying I don’t believe for what they’re offering they’re gonna have to come significantly up to keep Alex bregman so given that history given that Kyle Tucker has one year remaining before he is a free agent and hits the open market if I were the Astros I would strongly consider trading him I would strongly consider trading Valdez now it means or it would mean in the short term most likely taking a step back and it raises the question too of what kind of value you’d get because it’s only one year look at the Yankees for example Tucker of course would appeal to them he is a perfect replacement for stto he might not be the offensive player as stto is but he’s a better base runner capable of stealing 30 bases a much better Defender Gold Glove winner but it’s the same situation as it was with stto you’re trading significant pieces for one year of Kyle Tucker and then he might Bolt on you so it’s a difficult move for them and yet it will be something that I’m sure they discussed I’m sure other teams discuss because Kyle Tucker is one of the most underrated players in the game and one of the best players in the game K did you get a discount for the smallest bed possible behind you because that bed looks like it’s about this big just saying AJ I’m not going to reveal the size of the bed it’s not as small as you think keep going okay hey I’m just saying it looks it looks a little small but if you’re the Astros Kyle Tucker and fber why not just trade them both if you’re gonna trade one why not trade them both and then if you’re gonna do one you got to do them both the way the way I’m looking at this because if you trade Kyle Tucker the fans are gonna be like oh that means we’re gonna keep fber and then fber walks at the end of the year and you have nothing for either one so for me if I’m looking at this from the outside in you trade them both get as many pieces back you might have to take a step back for one year but then if you’re Dana Brown you say all right one year we took a step back we got significant prospects for these two guys and now boom we’re ready to go again gives you a chance to reset the luxury tax gives CH Jim Crane a chance to take a deep breath and then here we go again we’re going to try to be the Astros I agree AJ and I am always for teams being proactive in these kinds of situations the only issue here is what they would get in return and remember it’s one year of both guys they have high arbitration numbers that generally doesn’t give you a monster return in a trade it’s kind of the way is at the same time Tucker in particular as I just said is one of the best players in the game frer one of the better left-handers for sure so it is something that in my view they should look at trade Presley as well they’ve talked about that Ryan Presley and you’re right kind of retool on the Fly I’ve been talking about this you guys know this with Toronto and asking why aren’t they doing this with Vlad Jr and Bo bashet and in the case of Toronto it seems that they’re going to make a push for vager well the price just went up with stto his deal and in the case of Houston I don’t know that they’re going to make the push necessary for Tucker and certainly Valdez Valdez could be a $200 million pitcher Tucker could be a 400 500 million player in the current market conditions so that is not an area Jim Crane has gone to and if you’re not going to go there and if your team this season is not built to win the World Series and they may feel it is well then you maybe start to kind of spin the Wheels a little bit and try to do some things so with another Lefty on the market the trade market with a little bit more time and a lot more strikeouts gr gar crochet does this news bump his value up even more because it’s like oh I could have framber Valdez or does it dilute it a little bit they’re different guys Eric and when I say that not just different pitchers of course but also contractually much different positions fber like I said entering his final year before free agency crochet two more years and the price in salary is much lower he’s projected to make under $3 million in arbitration this year so from that perspective alone the extra year the lower salary crochet is the more valuable trade piece so it seems to me that they’re going to do well the White Soxs are for cruset they should do well for him and I don’t know when that deal is going to happen reportedly last night that the Mets and Yankees have been among the most aggressive the most aggressive from what I’ve heard so we’ll see where that goes but crochet is kind of a different profile than fber Valdez is there is there a most aggressive mindset when you look at the Mets and Yankees yes they want him bad the Phillies had you know possibly something in the works at the trade deadline didn’t want to put Andrew payer in is the more value in the aggressiveness or is there more value in the Red Sox having you know four of the top top 100 prospects that possibly they could dip in to that’s a good question Eric and when I wrote that story last night with will salmon of the athletic we were careful to say as of Monday the Mets and Yankees were the most aggressive if the Red Sox want to get involved here yes they have perhaps the best pieces and they’re a team that can really do some things hold on a second guys y this is a good that and they can obviously get in the mix and trade for the players that they want but if you’re the Red Sox also maybe you spend in free agency and address the starting pitching need that way now to me they should still make a trade whether it’s for crochet or someone else because not all of these prospects are going to play for the 2025 or even 2026 Red Sox there’s too many of them there are not enough at bats to go around so some of their young players should be play in my opinion but I don’t know exactly what they’re thinking my understanding and it’s been reported in Boston as well is that they have not been particularly aggressive on crochet or at least not as aggressive as some others that could change but it seems they’re focused on other things so Ken the other team I’m curious about in that article and actually really it spills into the art other article that you put together with Will sammon on your notes is the Baltimore Orioles this might be the softest thing I’ve read the entire offseason from from the GM president baseball operations World owners obviously not spending we can make fun of all day but are they really that scared of losing one of their precious draft picks that it would prevent them from bringing on a starter and if so isn’t garri crochet the perfect guy to trade for but oh wait are they prospecting draft pick hugging too much good question really good question Scott and Mike Elias their GM came out yesterday and said we’re not reluctant to sign anybody any qualifying offer guy or non-qualifying offer guy but there are different prices that you will consider for these kinds of things my understanding is they are reluctant to sign a player who has a qualifying offer because for santon de and Corbin Burns they’re going to get two picks back and those picks are likely to be in the 30s so they’ll have three picks in the top 40 that’s really good no question about it and I can see why the Orioles want that that’s a very desirable position to be in at the same time they’ve got to say yes to some somebody and I don’t know who it’s going to be maybe it’s a non-qualifying offer guy like avaldi or Jack flarity who they had before maybe it’s a trade I don’t know where they’re going but I made the point in that column that the window is not open forever gunar Henderson has four more years of control that’s a long time I get it but he’s a Scott Boris client not likely to sign an extension you might get rushman for an extension but rushman didn’t have the greatest second half last year anyway so in my view the time is now for them they’ve got new ownership they should be ready to go obviously it’s difficult for them to spend with Boston and New York and Toronto we all understand that but I am curious to see what they do in the starting pitching Market they’ve made two moves so far they’re pretty happy with those moves Tyler O’Neal to be the replacement for santand Deere good idea if Tyler O’Neal can stay healthy and Gary Sanchez to be the backup catcher maybe that’s a slight upgrade over James mccan okay that’s fine but you got to get the pitching they’ve got effin they’ve got Grayson Rodriguez they’ve got Dean Kramer they need more all right Ken I have two questions for you and they’re pretty pretty simple who’s more likely to get traded first crochet lazardo or a ranger Suarez Alec bow from the Phillies I would say crochet because I’m not sure whether Lardo will even be traded and as for B and Suarez I don’t know that that will develop as quickly as crochet should the crochet Market is active right now B it seems they’ve struggled to find a taker for him and Suarez I’m not sure exactly where they are with him so my guess would be crochet it’s only a guess AJ as the GMS often say oh it takes this one phone call and I could be proven wrong we do that a lot on this show so thank you Ken all right the second question is who’s going to sign first and where if you do that a lot the show why am I on I ask that question all the time also I don’t know I don’t run the show Ken I just ask the questions okay go ahead AJ who’s gonna sign first Corbin Burns we haven’t heard a lot about or Max freed and and as an n a bonus maybe you can be proven right where wait what was the part second part of that where where okay well I’m not going to be right because I’m always wrong according to you so why bother guessing I would hoping you would know as The Insider I would think both those guys come off the board maybe even this week and it would not surprise me at all as for where that’s really difficult to say Burns does he want to go back to San Francisco where he went to college in the Bay Area will they pay him that’s a good question we know the Yankees Red Sox Blue Jays and to an extent the Orioles are on burns and those teams in my view are going to end up with freedom Burns if the Giants don’t I don’t know who else might be in the mix maybe Texas but Texas has Financial questions right now their payroll is not exactly clear on what it’s going to be so that’s not really an answer but I’m not going to give you an answer when I don’t know the answer AJ because that would be kind of stupid wouldn’t it that would be that would be I appreciate I appreciate when you go back at AJ I do appreciate that but I need to know Devin Williams is there anybody that is a possible trade that could be pursued by more I feel like teams are capped by gar crochet because of how many prospects and how much value Devin Williams is an elite closer that’s most likely on a trade block is there any push from certain teams for him he is on the trade block one more year of control we reported last night upwards of 10 teams interested in him and really if you’re any team you could afford Devin Williams even a mid-market team can afford him even a small Market team could afford him because I think next year he projects at around 8 million n million so that’s a guy who I expect will get moved the Brewers are under some payroll restrictions from my understanding and where he goes I don’t know but I would not really be surprised by any outcome there hey Ken do you think there’s anyone smiling more than flatty Jr after the Juan stto signing I mean we listened to Fair territory yesterday but just quick followup to finish with the stto sweep Stakes I wanted to go to the Blue Jays mean not only should vlat be happy because he’s going to be at a similar age next off season he’s an elite bat and he’s not known for his glove neither is SoDo right not known for his speed um so that plus the fact that he saw his own team offer a huge chunk of cash to Juan SoDo vlat and Tucker both should be quite happy right because while some teams will paint sto as an aberration and oh it was a perfect storm and all that the bottom line is that number is out there now 765 and if you’re Vladimir Guerrero or you’re T Kyle Tucker you’re thinking okay I don’t need 765 I’m not worth 765 necessarily I’m not a generational player but I’m a pretty good player a really good player and I’m going to hit free agency and I’m going to do really well now with the Blue Jays if they go through all these machinations with different players different free agents and ultimately don’t come up with what they want even if they do I expect they’re going to make a run at Vladimir Guerrero Jr but if I’m Vlad Jr why aren’t I testing the market why wouldn’t I do that have 30 teams bid the Blue Jays can still bid then all good and he is a first baseman and first baseman generally don’t do as well as players at other positions regardless of whether Juan sto is a good defensive outfielder or an elite defensive outfielder he’s an outfielder and first base has been kind of a depressed market now for quite some time it was a better Market when Miguel Cabrera and Albert phol and Joey vad in the early 2010s were getting their monster deals lately no so that will hold him back a little bit but if he puts together another good year and remember he had a great year last year then two average years for him the year before the years before then I expect he will be in serious demand and yes we’ll get a great deal yeah at this point I mean you’re season away I guess you go to free agency unless they go absolutely nuts yep that makes sense Ken thank you appreciate it Ken enjoy your bed for ants we made a school for ANS keep it up AJ you’re so funny thank you Ken we’ll talk to you soon appreciate it enjoy the winter meetings Fair territory Ken Rosenthal and Alana Rizo for the next episode on Thursday uh that show live that will be the end of the winter meeting so you got the rule five draft on Thursday and that really caps off the winter meetings we will swing right back after we tell you about MLB Rivals you can download the game for free scan the QR code on your screen right now this is the perfect time it’s the winter time you’re lonely because you miss baseball so this is a way to play baseball it’s really great graphics and it is um featuring special cards and you can really get into mini games the whole deal but if you don’t believe me ask Xander and Freddy in the heart of every baseball season there exists a rivalry that transcends the game itself We Gather For the Love of the Game we watch as history is made and we play for our city download MLB Rivals 24 [Music] all right we’re going to talk Yankees after math bunch of quotes from Brian Cashman next so in two minutes but let’s get a quote in there from Ron Washington who’s at the winter meetings he said I’m gonna make a big statement Mike Trout is still better than 80% of players in the league okay I think he’s better than 90 plus percent of players in the league because there’s a difference between better and staying on the field it’s not about that when he played in April he was what guys top 10 for that first month so actually I think that’s a cold take Katz I think R just used that number I mean 80% I I just said 80% of guys don’t even make it to free agency so he’s better than the average player yes he is definitely better he is still an to me he’s still an elite he’s an elite top five five to eight hit her in the game and everybody’s going to say Well when he stays healthy of course everybody sucks when they’re not on the field that’s the thing is I feel like the trout conversation’s gotten a little bit out of control where people are like he’s not good he’s not worth it whatever you got to separate talent and what he did from health and guess what he’s the billionth star to have an incredible whatever it was eight ninee run and then suffer injuries yeah he’s still a great player but again how many more guys no he’s great when he’s on the field that’s the biggest knock on him right now Mike we want you back on the field healthy please because you’re unbelievable when you play Andrew Jones guys like that center fielders had amazing 10year runs and then got hit with injuries and all played the same position too by the way but a lot of them have that’s why you have to move like even Bryce moving to first base cuz his arm mhm he had the arm problems right that’s why a lot of these guys have to that’s why judge playing center field for the long term isn’t the best thing for his body eventually you’re gonna have to put move him away like next year they should I mean there’s a list of you know you name some but you could go Yelich had to move from center field yellich played center field Stan they had to get out of the Outfield because of his problems I mean there’s a long list of guys just recently that have had to get Mook even mooki mooki mooki was out there and then you know right now he’s playing other positions but did center field is just so hard on your body Tory Hunter one of the best of all time and I’ve said this repeatedly if Andrew Jones goes in the Hall of Fame you got to look at Tory Hunter going in the Hall of Fame he had to move to right field because center field is just such a toll on your body it’s yeah you gota you got to get after it [Music] yeah that’s what he said that’s what he said that’s what he said that’s what he said we have a lot of quotes so we’re gonna start with the Yankees and can we actually jump to that Blake Snell quote First some of the other stuff’s kind of obvious they’re gonna probably move judge to right field and put Dominguez in Center okay and they prefer to keep jazz in the infield third or second right now they’ve got him at third okay here’s the money one in my mind Brian Cashman said they met with Blake Snell on the day he signed with the Dodgers B is told Cashman things were progressing quickly and make an offer if they were interested cashman’s quote I told him I can’t make an offer until I know what’s going on with stto first because I couldn’t do both at that level this should be a Telltale sign of where the Yankee spending is going to be and if that doesn’t tell you enough Cashman also said they’re not going to be drunken Sailors like they were defensively in the World Series oh sorry no that’s that’s not that last part’s not what he said but this should tell you 50 mil for SoDo they knew it was going to be in that ballpark Snell is what 30 something so they’re going to be under the 80 Mark for their commitments right so we’re probably looking at maybe 60s for next year commitments I don’t care about the long-term you got to look at next year how much salary are they in for next year so if they get belly that’s half of it already Bell’s guaranteed number next year is 32 and a half if he takes the buy out after that so we just ate up half what they’re doing now you got 30 something left no one’s crying or complaining I’m just saying don’t start doing a plan B where the anchors are adding five or six Premier players because they’re not doing that okay okay looking wanted more than he wanted Blake snow that’s bottom line he just wanted Juan stto more than he wanted Blake snow he had sto he knew what he brought for a year got him to the World Series he said all I can’t make a move now if we don’t get so though I’d probably come back to you Scott Scott and Blake snow went through what they went through last year so they decide to move early on it good for them Blake snow ended up in a place he wanted to end up Good For You Blake s very very happy for you very happy for you very happy that the Yankees made their decision Brian C this is basically Brian Cashman saying look Soto is more valuable to us than Blake snow is at this very second now snow would have waited until they didn’t sign stto and Soto went to the Mets would Brian Cashman have called Scott Bor said all right we’re in on snow we’ll up maybe he get more sure but BL was comfortable with what he got he went to a place he wanted to go he got a huge signing bonus so good job Scott borison good job Blake snow so Katz if Christian Walker costs 25 mil and Bellinger costs a little over 30 that’s 55 gives you another 10ish I’m just saying Yankee fans are starting to put out their wish list which is awesome but you’re only going to get probably two and a half impact players not five you know they’re going oh well we can add all that money up for soda I just I keep seeing it online all right here’s what we’re getting we’re gonna get one of the big starters we’re gonna get one or two big relievers we’re gonna get Christian Walker we’re gonna get Cody Baler I’m like hold up you’re not getting all of that you’re not but I also don’t think the combination of Christian Walker and Bellinger makes sense Bellinger makes sense because he can play first if Dominguez doesn’t work out in center field you’re talking about a rookie on the biggest stage playing for a World Series contending team so to me I think that number is actually a little bit closer to the 80 million I would say it’s higher than the 60 just because you just yes you go after stto knowing it’s going to be 50 a year actually they had him at like 46 or 47 something with that extra year and a little bit less money but I think they still put that money in and I think there is a spending spree but I also don’t think they felt comfortable going that because there was nobody in the market with Juan stto with Blake Snell you could also go after if you don’t get him you go after Burns you go after freed you could go you could go that route so it was like Juan stto nothing else in in that comparable nothing comparable Blake Snell you didn’t have to make that move right away agreed and and the bottom line is the Yankees at that moment said it is more important for us to bring back one SoDo than it is for Blake snow that that’s it oh and that’s there’s not this is not a knock on Blake snow this is not a knock on either one of them it’s just the way the Yankees prioritize their moves but they could have had both and and this but they weren’t going to do that they weren’t going to spend that much money so they were never goingon to have both if they wanted both they could have signed Blake snow last year and they didn’t they could have signed him to a short-term deal like the Giants did they didn’t want that they wanted stto they prioritized Soto by trading for him and then they prioritized him by throwing all their money at him now they didn’t get him so now they go back they huddle up in the what’s it the anatol hotel there in Dallas and they huddle up with all their people and they say okay what’s next and what’s next is maybe it’s Bellinger maybe it’s three or four guys under that 60 million whatever it is they have to find a first or third baseman we know this right they probably have to find another outfielder they definitely need some Bullpen help yes that’s what they’re trying to do right now where does that come from does that come through trades a gar crochet or one of the guys we talked about a lazardo whoever that is or does it come through them going out and signing a Tanner Scott right trading for a Devin Williams signing you know I don’t think they’re GNA go Max freed or Corbin Burns but I think there’s paths for them to find the right people to fill the holes they have and who knows maybe everyone said it yesterday it’s a blessing in disguise for the Yankees we’ll see and this is actually playing to why G crochet is so valuable because if you’re number crunching for next season he’s making what several million dollars and he’s making single digigit Millions so when you’re trying to add up how much you can add to next year’s payroll it’s such a low number which is why Chris gets should covet the asset and really push teams let’s get to the John Haymon note about the Yankee Suite versus the Mets site with SoDo did you guys see that and also hymon talked about how there some security guard issues last year so the Yankees have a policy where you have to pay for your Suite they’ve done that with judge Jeter Etc Soto wanted them to throw in the suite and this is also hymon saying that they were not given the chance to match the stto bed because there’s been a lot of false reporting on that and I believe him and he’s pretty plugged in on this one he also broke the story but he reported the Yankees would not on including a sweet at Yankee Stadium especially because judge and Jeter pay for theirs obviously Con on the Met side was like sure take the site question if you’re willing to commit $760 million to a player and the site would get the deal done again I don’t I’m not saying that would have happened do you really care I mean how much does a sweet cost them okay it’s not about that though it’s about the principle it’s like the Shaving thing we’re the Yankees and we’re not we don’t do this if we didn’t do this for Derek Jeter and we didn’t do this for Aaron judge and they have the see on their little shoulder right here then we’re not doing it for woto that was it and to be honest with you I don’t know how much a sweet cost I didn’t I’m sure they would have given him a deal on it but if you’re wotto and a swed is why you don’t go to the Yankees or the Mets again it goes back to this he went to the Mets because they gave him the most money they gave him the most money and they gave him other perks but it all came down to the more than anything it came down to the most money yeah and listen you with what he got he could if he really wanted to stay in Yankees Yankee land for let’s say $10 million less 15 whatever the difference was he could have got himself a suite if he really wanted to but the Yankees were like we’re the Yankees we don’t do facial hair and we don’t give anybody a sweep we didn’t do it for judge we didn’t do it for for Jeter and I’m sure there was other people that have asked for one over the years they just don’t do it it’s policy they stuck to their guns sorry love that I love that they did I love that they stuck to their guns it’s okay to have standards like you can’t just you can’t bow to everybody’s need or becking call or I want to grow a beard now like it’s okay to have standards and they stuck to it and good for them because the Yankees are going to be the Yankees way longer than Juan sto’s 15-year contract because then the next guy’s going to want a STI and the next guy’s going to want a sweet okay it’s fine they they lost but that’s fine yeah not because of the sweep they lose because of the sweet they lost because of the money this is just something else and the fight with the security guard and the family like come on guys like just say it want soda went for the money there’s nothing wrong with that everybody on Earth would have taken if they were offered more money from this is one of the things about life if you work at AT&T let’s say yeah and Verizon comes to you or T-Mobile comes to you and says hey we’ll give you the same job but we’ll pay you 15 times more which one are you going to take I know but these numbers were close and there were there were a lot of people in the industry that said if the numbers were close and the Yankees went past 700 they thought that he would choose to stay with the Yanks were they were wrong he wanted the most money we don’t know all the details how much of a signing bonus did they offer did they offer an opt out with escalators we don’t know all of that because some people are like really $5 million is the difference and then he goes to the Mets there might have been more the signing bonus from the Yanks might have been 30 mil that’s a big difference between 75 and 30 isn’t it if you were presented that case it’s not justan depends I mean if you want the signing bonus up front there’s no deferred money in this contract right so you get a lot of the money up front I always wanted signing bonus and by the way the security thing have you CR you’ve been to you’ve been to Yankee Stadium Scott you’ve been to Yankee Stadium the security there is on a different level from every other major league baseball park like if you don’t have your credentials perfect and everything lined up they will not let I mean me and Jason benetti tried to get in there do a game this year and we had our little carry-ons because they were like nope you don’t have an email saying you can bring in your luggage I’m like it’s my carry-on dude like I’m flying out today and tonight and they’re like nope can’t bring it in our poor runner had to go take it to her car and put it in her car but it was like come on guys yeah they’re tight y they’re tight New York also deals with a lot of crap with but the Yankees the Yankees are different than any other organization to deal with because they are the Yankees and they do it their way and they’ve always done it their way not saying it’s right or wrong sometimes they’re good about stuff sometimes they’re tough about stuff but they are the Yankees and they not going to bend for any player like we said facial hair sweets whatever it is they’re going to do it their way and if you want to play for the New York Yankees team that’s won the most World Series you go play there and if you don’t we’ll find someone else then to me this was a good divorce you had him for a year this was not the right fit from a philosophy perspective just saying that’s what it looked like at the end all right let’s talk to Zach Scott about this and of course what else is going on hot stove wise but the former front office executive joins us next to break down some of these intricacies and what it [Music] meant so Joel wolf represents Nolan arado Roki szaki some other dudes and he spoke to the media today and according to Bob Nightingale the Cardinals have given him permission the agent to speak directly to teams to help facilitate a trade arnado has a full no trade clause he’s going willing to go to several teams of the list that’s quote bigger than you would think wolf says there was another report from Eric Boland who said that he would go east now so it does look like he wants to jump do you think this is common by the way for an agent to help this is the first time in baseball I think I’ve maybe ever heard of this really I’ve heard of this in basketball and football where they’re like hey you can try to find a trade partner but baseball I don’t remember this happening before why do they need help can’t they do it thems because Nolan has a no trade clause so if he can find someone that will trade for him basically the Cardinals are saying we’ll take anything to get you out of here and if you can find a place that will trade for you with your salary because the Cardinals don’t want to eat any of the money so the Cardinals are saying Am I Wrong CR to me it’s like the Cardinals are like if you can find anybody that’ll take on your salary we’ll take Scott braa Ken Rosenthal and the bobblehead just so we don’t have to eat any money that’s what it seems like to me that’s what the Braves did with Solair I mean that’s kind of what it seems like noan arado is still a productive player so it’s it’s interesting play they’re very motivated and I heard you guys say yesterday that uh you know he won’t go east I think Nolan arado and only because of somebody that he played with that I played with has never been exposed to real good analytics about how to hit and this dude is a baseball junkie and his team analytics he’s played for the Rockies and the Cardinals two of the teams that are low low low on that like hey this is what we see from an analytical standpoint I know we can do all stuff on his own but this other player went to another team and was like wow you guys have all the answers so to me I think it puts the Yankees in play obviously the Dodgers are in play and I also think the Phillies are play especially because I think he wants to go to a winner that’s it I think he wants to go to the LA that’s oh he definitely does I don’t think that’s happening that ain’t happening I’m just saying that’s what his desire I don’t think he’s very quiet about it I think he’s always wanted to go there he’s from there and he wants to go over there maybe he go to Anaheim that’s close they in Los Angeles of Anaheim I think they should trade for him yeah I think they should what if they traded him for uh randone straight up Cardinals get randone Los Angeles Angels of of Anaheim get there AR I gotta go throw up and then we’re going to bring on our next [Music] guest Zach Scott joining us on Ft former front office exec uh listen to his own pod check out everything he’s been putting out there on Twitter a lot of good information at ZackScott Sports Zach great to have you on you want to get right into stto and your thoughts on all the petty stuff that comes afterward because I’m sure you’ve been involved in some conversations with stars and they ask for things and what happens yeah well first of all hey guys thanks for having me um yeah those you know in my experience most of the kind of little um things that were added are added on late in a contract it’s not really driving the negotiation it’s not usually a big part of the conversation it’s it’s one of those things where it’s like you spent so much money already they’re going to try to ask for 10 different things right at the end and a lot of the times and I’ve only worked in Big Market clubs so it’s you know that caveat a lot of the times you just kind of cave and do it because you just want you’re so excited to finish the deal that you might do it and there’s sometimes I get you know the Yankees may have some sort of um a policy on not paying for sweets or whatever it may be I mean we at the Red Sox for a long time we didn’t we didn’t give out full no trade clauses um for for a very long time I’m not not sure if they’ve changed that uh but yeah I mean you sometimes have these things and most of the time the agents and the players were willing to work through that um it’s rare that that stuff would blow up a deal or make a deal are there is is it important as a front office to have standards because we just talked about the the sweet thing I think it’s Petty but either way it’s $500,000 site per year for 15 years comes out to a lot of money but is it important that front offices have a standard or does it just become the wild west if you don’t have standards and you’re like wow this guy he he just wants everything yeah I think it can become the Wild West it’s a lot easier to say okay this is you know the New York Mets policy or the Boston Red Sox whatever your team is that this is our policy on how we’re going to handle these things and we’re going to treat everyone the same uh or you say you know we’re going to treat players with you know this much service time a certain way and with under that a different way I mean you just kind of make it really clear I think that’s the best way to do it and just kind of but you have to stick to it agreed what all right so what’s the craziest thing you ever heard a player ask for in free agency I mean you know I would ask for you know sometimes I’d ask for a king bed and I get denied and say you have to sleep on a twin and free AG like you know when you sign me to the Red Sox I had to sleep on the floor so uh appreciate that so what’s the what’s the wildest thing anyone ever asked for with the with you know in your time that was our one-year deal policy for you but it was only half a year so I appreciate it okay my back my back got sore thank you right um yeah you know I’m off the top of my head there’s really nothing that’s out of the ordinary I mean yeah Hotel Suites on the road are a big thing for people um sometimes they ask for adjoining rooms uh I mean there’s I don’t know there hasn’t been anything you know when we first brought dice game outu zaka there was a whole lot that came with the first significant Japanese player that we brought in there’s a whole infrastructure that needs to be placed and some of that’s necessary and some of it’s just you know you want someone to be as comfortable as possible but I don’t know I can’t recall anything to off-the-wall okay I know this in Fenway old Fenway before they’ve redone the The Clubhouse in there they had like two stalls and there was one Japanese toilet in there changed my life so thank you for that I don’t know if I think dice K or coji ice I’d say I don’t know it was dice K or kji but thank you yeah now I have one in my house so thank you I didn’t do it so I’m just saying but they are amazing I agree yes Scott Scott doesn’t know what to say it’s great no I didn’t know if you had a question or you just wanted to point out the I just wanted to say thank you whether it was dice G or koi I don’t know was maybe it was okima I don’t know maybe it it was one of those guys the same time so all right let let me get out of the toilet for a sec so Juan stto uh gets 51 million doll a year for the next 15 Seasons that could go up a little bit of course if they prevent him from opting out can you explain how front offices try to justify a number like this I’m actually okay with it for the Mets given where their payroll was at Steve Cohen doesn’t care about making money right this isn’t a profit game for him with the Mets on the short term at least so we had someone like you know sarus who’s been on the show pretty often say that his projected War number is actually more of a bargain than what Willie adams’ number is with the Giants contract do some front offices slice up the numbers that way I I mean it’s when you’re talking about a player at this level and this level of money it’s it’s so ownership driven because it really doesn’t logically or objectively make sense to I mean if you think about it the present value of his deal is almost what $300 million more than otani’s um that’s I mean that’s pretty insane so the numbers just kind of got away from everybody in this process I I assumed it would end up in the sevens right from the start but I kind of assume that would be a fake 700 something million dollars and that it would be a lot of deferrals and if you looked at it from a present value standpoint it’d be more like something in the sixes uh but we didn’t see that we saw no deferrals from multiple teams in the sevens so that’s pretty wild I mean a front office there aren’t many people that I’ve worked for and I’ve worked for Hall of Fame caliber general managers that would feel really comfortable about that number and because they have to think about how the puzzle pieces fit together right and especially when you’re a team that’s I mean it depends on if it’s you know Steve Cohen and if he doesn’t care about the luxury tax thresholds or the top threshold the coent tax if he doesn’t care about that you know you’re going to have some baseball penalties which aren’t great in terms of how handle you know draft picks and international money and no baseball person really likes that because you’re taking possible Talent off the table but hey this guy’s an Elite Talent he’s so young it’s it’s rare opportunity I I think going all in on a guy like this makes some sense I think it’s what you do after that and how you manage that risk that you just took on going forward is really huge do you see arguments between ownership and front offices in situations like this and the sense of you are cutting you are cutting my legs out from underneath me by doing this all the things you just listed draft picks International signing like they’re going to be losing all that stuff all because you said normally this is owner driven yeah I mean a lot of times people probably have trouble getting their owners to pay top dollar for guys so it’s a good problem to have uh to to be like oh you know Steve don’t spend 800 million on a guy I mean that I think you’d prefer to have that if you’re G to get stud player but uh yeah I mean it’s challenging I think the the the thing to me is most people that have are that leading a baseball operation think about it as yeah money doesn’t matter until it does right so you can say that now you can get excited get caught up in the moment we don’t care about luxury tax we don’t care about all this at some point someone usually cares about it and I think we saw that a little bit with the Mets when they’re kind of reset after spending a ton of money um I think it was like wait what are we doing like this didn’t work work when are we spending all this money for and then here we are you know a couple years later and it’s we’re doing it again and and I think it’s different you do it differently you start investing in young players and and then go short on Old older players and kind of manage risk that way but yeah it it it’s easy to say in the moment that it’s not going to cause any issues down the road but it usually does plus you’re you know 15 years of a guy’s career I mean one of the hardest things to do is to manage the end of a player’s career when especially if he’s a star player when they become you know mortal it’s really hard and you know they see you see some of that with the Yankees with you know Stanton he’s still a productive player but he’s on the books you know even for like a few more years I mean it can get really challenging Cabrera and Detroit might be a better example um so those are going to be challenges but yeah those are things you have a lot of time to plan for Zach when you’re when you’re talking about the stto signing and the Mets congratulations to the Mets and want stto for getting everything they have the teams miss out the Yankees the Blue Jays the Red Sox the fans didn’t say well man we had $50 million to spend on Juan soda per year how do you deal with that as a front office and say we really didn’t have that we just had it for this one special guy much like sh and the Blue Jays last year so what’s the expectation in the room of the front office when you say man we missed out on this guy but we really only had that money for Juan stto and Sh Otani not to spend overall so how quickly does it turn around for the front office and then how do you pivot and say okay well we had 50 but we only have 20 yeah I mean it’s hard the concept of kind of budget exceptions for certain types of talents you know doesn’t I don’t think fans want to hear about that sort of stuff but it’s a reality and you know I think you look at it as okay who’s the next player maybe it’s not this year maybe it’s Vlad next year you know who’s that next guy that kind of is a young player star player player that we want to go big on maybe it’s Tucker who’s not as young as as obviously stto but you know you kind of you just don’t want to say well we have all this money so let’s just go spend it and you especially don’t want to rage spend it because you’re mad that you missed out on it you don’t want to be reactionary you kind of have to regroup you know take a beat and and you know proceed with a level head okay so levelhead we’re going to put up a graphic that you put out on Twitter comparing Alex verdugo’s season to Nolan nado’s season I definitely oh you didn’t do that I’m sorry yes yes I did so we can read this to provide context if you want while you’re asking yeah so you text you you tweeted the smoke on aado and bregman with the Red Sox while they say they wouldn’t move Des to first base is confusing I assume they would move move him across a diamond and trade casus but they’re doing proactive damage control by denying the de switch or the rumors of just BS that was you saying that yes that was me saying so yeah it’s you know this time of year it’s hard to know what’s actually real what’s just chatter out there but there seems to be some smoke around you know you hearing the Red Sox tied to bregman uh I saw something about Aon not I mean there seem it seems to say the obvious thing if you’re getting one of those guys is that you move Des I know they could move bregman a second base they have some really good young players one of them would fit really well at second base pretty soon I’m not sure that makes a lot of sense for them I like bregman a lot I think he’s a great fit for a lot of teams um but yeah I think I just felt like they’re kind of and I get it like you you may not pull off any of those moves and now and you’re having to answer questions about moving a you know your star player across the diamond so I get what they’re trying to do it’s I’m not criticizing it’s just saying like it’s it’s confusing it really is I’m genuinely confused as like what’s going on are they serious about not moving him and they just signed bregman to play second um I would assume there’s a bunch of moving Parts in that scenario but you know things things change it’s hard for me to say that’s just me speculating and giving kind of my thoughts on what’s being reported how do you how do you as a front office executive look at what Nolan arado has done the last year and a half he was an All-Star in the 23 season he was I think number three in MVP voting do you look at obviously you look at extenda circumstances things around it but do you also look at the organization and think because we do this with pitching all the time man they’re just not getting the value out of this guy because he’s never been in an organization that has good good devices to make a player better yeah I mean there’s a couple things with him in particular I look first at at his age and and you know he’s kind of following a normal aging pattern so there’s nothing really unusual that stands out in some of his um you know performance most recently but yeah I think that’s fair I mean I haven’t I don’t know enough about what’s going on inside the Cardinals walls up to this point obviously they’re doing a makeover of their infrastructure their front office with h Bloom coming in for next year but already being there and doing some stuff there so I think that’s a good point though like we do talk about it so much with pitchers and there real opportunities for hitters with uh teams that have good programs in place the question is when you you know it’s hard to say we’re going to acquire this guy and he’s going to benefit so much from this it takes the right mindset you know the player could come in if he’s never been exposed to it there’s a learning curve um I don’t know the player if does he you know want this sort of stuff does there Buy in there uh I you know that is the does the team actually have the right infrastructure it’s one thing to have the tools to be a able to do sophisticated analysis of biomechanics and breakdown SMS and all these things but you have to have people that are really good at communicating and connecting with the players and I find a lot you know in a lot of my Consulting work I find that that’s where there’s people hit a wall is that they’re not a well oiled machine to go from some insight that they’ve learned uh from the technology and analytical work that they can do to then actually applying it and making players better I think that’s the really tricky part um and some organizations are really good at that and others struggle there Zach really appreciate the insight as always see what happens next year it’s actually been kind of quiet I was mentioning besides the sto move so hopefully it’s not a dud besid winter meetings are always quiet though it’s it’s always like laying the groundw the trade usually have an after the winter mat Zach is not incentivized Zach they don’t they don’t true or false we’ll finish this way did anyone ever sit down with you and say you must get something done during the winter meetings because that’s when we Market the game no one’s ever said that I’ve worked with for GMS that it’s kind of was the old way of doing things right is like everything got done you know Dave debrowski is like we want to get things done wrapped up and have our team ready to go and he’s super aggressive and it worked really well for us um and then I’ve had you know other GMS where they’re afraid and I think this is actually a common thing that we see now in the game is there’s a lot of risk averse GMS and they are very aware that there is this kind of artificial pressure put on them during the winter meetings just because everyone’s together the media coverage is intense it’s excitement and they don’t want to feel that pressure in some Cas I had one year it was kind of shocking where basically we showed up yeah we’re doing nothing this week so you know we’re gonna go to dinners we’re gonna hang out maybe we’ll take a player in the rule five draft but we’re not doing anything because this is where bad decisions get made I guess that’s one way to look at it it’s a little uh little every stays plus everyone stays in their Suite now nobody Ventures out into like the lobby area where there’s they’re scared of uh job Seekers is really what’s going on poor job Seekers that’s what’s going on is they don’t want to they don’t want to deal with media and they don’t want to be you know there’s hundreds and hundreds of people there looking for jobs and It’s just tough and I mean I’d go down there because I think it’s the right thing to do is to meet with job Seekers because you might find some really good talented people but I understand it people just stay away but it’s funny because there used to be you’d meet with G you’d meet with other GMS in person in the in their Suite or you’d meet with agents and now you still are like in a suet just texting it’s kind of pointless that’s that’s exactly it it’s stuff that can be done anywhere but whatever it’s cool to have the marketing component to it but hopefully some more stuff happens yeah well Zach thank you so much for the time appreciate it ma’am all right guys thanks a lot take care thank you everyone check out Zach Scott sports to follow what he’s doing on Twitter and the rest of what he’s bringing to the table including his pot for the people Q&A Stephen Garrison included me when he asked a question so if you at one of us I see it easier just a fun fact I think it’s been almost two years of this show and I actually haven’t pointed that out so if you do that it’s easier for me to see the questions he said bom for arado straight up and we all say no you can’t do that not a fair fight it’s not how it works making a lot less wouldn’t work like that and has more value in the market right now but good try MJR Sports I don’t know if you guys read this we do but if the Yanks don’t get at least arnado belly Burns or freed and Williams or something to that extent they’ve failed this off season and that is exactly what I am saying I don’t know if they’re going to get all that plus I don’t know I mean I guess can get Aeron if the money gets bought down belly but then Williams and burns and freed I don’t know it’s a little aggressive yeah no it’s a lot they’re not gonna do some he said some form he didn’t say all of those he said some form okay if they get if they get three of those guys I think it addresses IT addresses a lot of their needs one hitter one starting pitcher and a bullpen piece but they create bullpen pieces all the time they got two of the they got two of the white sock Bullpen pieces who the white sock didn’t even want last year just can’t Bank on that every year so it’s nice to get a big name but they do it almost every year you’re right and I I think they’re one of the best they are top three at finding gems for their Bullpen they’ve got a great system drod asking who’s a better free agent next year Vlad or Tucker vad plays more right now I’d say Vlad yeah just because of the name in the in the past production he’s younger he’s younger he’s younger he’s been Gold Glove defense and you won a left a bat Kyle Tucker’s your guy Kyle Tucker had played every day until this past year so that’s not really a fair fight either that’s true good question dere said if the Yankees by the way Derek said if the Yankees get freed Bellinger and Scott as free agent and then trade for Devin Williams they could be good again stop he’s be the same one saying oh they’re just they’re just too old you can’t have the same arguments you can’t go into the free agent market and cannonball into the free agent pool and be like we’re the best and then two months later we got to get more athletic and younger that’s not where you get younger you don’t get younger in the free agent Market Cody Bounder is very athletic yeah [Music] in the weeds let’s spend a few minutes on the Roki suzaki market so he’s officially been posted he can chat with teams he’s going to start meeting with them next week he’s going to sign between January 15th and the 23rd why that’s just where he’ll get a little more bonus money but money is all going to be close enough that he’s going to pick the team that he wants to be with the most his representation Joel wolf spoke to a media scrum today on the idea that he might prefer playing on the west coast wolf said he’s never brought that up as an issue he referenced the potential benefit of a soft Landing in a smaller Market but on New York City specifically I think he could handle it I read a bunch of quotes that all said anybody’s in play uh here’s another one he says a smaller Market with a smaller media pool might be more his liking he also said szaki doesn’t need a team with a Japanese mentor to be on the west coast to me when I saw all this it just sounds like a lot everybody’s in Play Everybody’s In play blah blah stop trying to make it that he wants to go here or go there he’s got a few teams in mind he already knows rooki suzaki probably already picked the team he wants to go to and Joel wolf is like give me more money and the team that he wants to he doesn’t want to let him know because he wants everyone to bid or whatever they can do well it’s not the bidding though because they’re going to all bid their Max bonus money yeah it’s it’s just they’re going to go through the process part of this is for the Integrity of the league so that it doesn’t look like this player already has a deal or a team in mind is what’s the bidding oh this team has six mil on their bonus money oh this team has seven mil on their bonus money I mean actually the bidding might be hey can we find a shoe deal that will want him in a certain place because that’s where the big money is going to come for him I talked to an agent a week ago whatever it was was around the time when they said he was posted he said he is doing Roki Sasaki a disservice if he does not already have at least one but maybe two places that they’ve narrowed narrowed it down to he like no agent he said this person told me no agent is doing that and just going come on all 30 teams we don’t know he’s already got something narrowed down to two teams agreed do you think he’s narrowed down to two teams I do 100% he probably got narrowed down to what team he wants yeah but they’re they’re playing the game like listen he ain’t going to the Pirates he ain’t going to certain teams they have small media pool though come on I mean he’s probably not going to Cleveland he’s probably not going to the and this is not a knock on those teams but he’s just probably not he he also isn’t going to get paid like a superstar for a bit because he’s choosing to come here here before the 25 barrier and he is going to seek some big money marketing deals of course so you’re gonna have a better chance of getting one of those in a bigger Market because there’s more may because to Sacramento maybe he was a Luis srino fan growing up and he wants to pitch with him we’re gonna get into them later there’s a good juicy story about them but I don’t where’s he going then is it is it Dodgers or Padres and we’re just being maybe he’s maybe he goes to the Rays because he always want to play a George steinbrener field for a couple Seasons Maybe go to the Yankees the Yankees be in play again for a Japanese Superstar they’ve been known to have a couple they don’t have one right now do they no Phillies I know he’s going to the Phillies I’m homering he’s G to the Phillies the Phillies just started jumping into the Japanese market last year so they are ready they are ready I’m homering he’s going to the twins so the twins can afford him homering to twins you’re not home ring the twins you can’t you can’t claim the twins I’m going to go outside the box the Brewers do have a very intriguing pitching development that could Intrigue a player and it’s close to Chicago so maybe there’s some maybe there’s some uh publicity things that he can get through the city of Chicago I’m GNA give you three teams okay number one the Los Angeles Dodgers I me I still think that no what give us something like a little more juicy then you’re GNA say the San Diego p Padres number two the San Diego Padres number three the New York Yankees because if he doesn’t want to play with his other Superstar friends on the Dodgers and he’s not into the darish and the Theo Nomo and PR speaks Japanese and being the Rival against Otani hold deal then maybe he really does want to be the sole star in a market and get the marketing money and still be a part of a contender that has a good pitching program then that would be the Ys that’s your top three but really he already knows okay we’ll see I mean listen there’s no speculation because let’s just wait we don’t need to do where Willi go his representation just uh don’t I didn’t think that I didn’t even think of that build it don’t need it you what a great idea we don’t need that at all we don’t we just we just need to wait until the January I’ll be back from vacation I’ll be refreshed and we can start over my life just changed again just the little things in life just when you wake up you should be grateful that you woke up and when you hear where will Roki go you should also be grateful but we’re bringing it up just because a he got posted so he really is coming to the show and B his representation is trying to fake like he’s going on 30 dates but really he’s basically already got it down to one row next up let’s get to his future teammate sh Otani uh he is still recovering from his elbow surgery and the Dodgers said he’s not going to be ready to pitch for opening day which comes early for them because it’s going to be in Tokyo for Cubs and Dodgers in mid-march so here’s Alden Gonzalez helping us with the quote from Dave Roberts said he’s going to be able to hit on March 18 and 19 but unlikely that he would pitch in those games I mean crats I say good just Preserve ve that arm make sure you’re very smart with how you use it it’s going to be a six-man rotation we don’t need to get that whole thing cranking a couple weeks before the season starts for everyone else I would have been surprised if he was pitching I mean that’s a bummer to me it’s a bummer they’re going over to Japan it’s an opportunity for him to be able to pitch in front of his in front of the fans that haven’t seen him pitch in a while like in you know they want to see him pitch for the Dodgers the he is the face of the Dodgers over there maybe no I think here too but it is so smart by them you’re talking about cranking somebody up who’s already going to be like they’re going to be super cautious all year and then you’re saying hey go ahead and Crank It Up 10 days ahead of the regular season and then set it down no that’s that’s not you know that time of year is for your last you know five up downs you’re getting ready for the season he probably isn’t going to even make a start in the first time through the rotation I agree they’re going to wait as long as they can because they can there’s no reason to rush him this is earlier this is two weeks before the season starts and they’re going to get enough attention because Yamamoto will pitch yes imanaga or uh sha imaga is gonna pitch probably opening maybe opening day for the Dodgers so imaga versus Yamamoto that could be prob that might be game two so game one the Snell and Justin steel maybe that’s cool plenty of good pitching on both sides plenty of good pitching available but you know what I’m saying they’re not and and Shi is not gonna rush back and then have to go back like CR said and sit a spring training and pitching no when he once he gears it up and he cranks it up it’s go time baby yep all right so let’s step aside uh we’ll stay for the YouTube crowd to ask or answer some more questions lumer loone is going to join us super opinionated and active on Twitter about what the Red Sox are up to cuz not much yet besides [Music] [Music] Chapman T any rumors of the Rays willing to trade starting pitching yeah Jeffree Springs could be gone because Jeffree Springs costs about what the razor are paying the Yanks to rent the ballpark right how much are they paying 15 15 million so Jeffrey Springs is 10 and a half Springs and Brandon laau are the highest paid players on the Ray I could see them trading both and they have a plethora of starting pitchers too they they have good starters lot coming back lot of were hurt last year a lot of those guys were hurt coming back mclanahan if he comes back like he was he’s a young candidate so I could see that happening but what I think will happen is you get free agents off the board this is generally what you do so that the teams that didn’t pull off those deals feel a little more heat and might give up the extra Prospect to pull off the trade I did see some rumors this morning you know the aggregators start to pick up Dylan CE could be D I’m like get the [ __ ] out of here Dylan CE isn’t getting traded that is throwing a dart at a dartboard Am I Wrong why would they trade Dy he was like a top he was like a top saw out there sa young was he top five sa young he’s really good not that expensive and he’s on a contender you’re crazy no that’s yeah stop stop with that but the question was will the Rays trade starting pitching on any day that ends in a why like they’re always like they’re looking to trade somebody but they’re not afraid to not wait till a trade deadline they’ll they’ll do it in May they’ll do it in June but to me I think the most Val is now because now you can get you can get that market after everybody’s signed and gone because it doesn’t look like guys are going to be waiting until February this year and they can hit that market up easily Scott P asking would Roki have to be on a similar deal to a rookie deal when he signs can you explain how this would work yes he gets a bonus as an international free agent it’s a capped bonus it’s not like the Yan monata days when he got a billion dollars not literally but a ton of money so he’s going to get single digit Millions bonus to sign and then he’s going to be in the rookie system right he’ll get league minimum money then he’ll get arbitration money and he’ll eventually get the free agency he’ll go the same route that he went through with uh that sh had to go through yeah just look at otani’s trajectory it’s the same exact thing Dodgers could break in if they sign him and then extend him but you can’t do that right away because it’s just an Integrity issue but you could couple seasons in so good question there’s your answer lumer Looney [Music] next here we go Lum merone joining us right now on foul territory you can catch him on Wei nesson covers the Red Sox check him out on Twitter at L merone former big leager joining us Lou great to have you on so can you paint the picture of what you see happening for Boston let’s just start with the big stuff here what they were they were in on the last two years they’re in on everybody and there’s a lot of crying by by old Lou get we didn’t get SoDo we didn’t get anybody yeah there’s there there there’s a lot of that going on and there’s some panic and quite frankly they haven’t don’t really deserved the benefit of the doubt the last three or four years so stto kind of came out of nowhere I don’t really think anybody was thinking stto like the off season this is how they’re going to build it but then you got in it knowing that you were probably in the outside looking in and it was sort of like maybe we should just move on from stto and hurry up and get into Burns and freed so people right now they don’t want to hear that the Red Sox are interested in guys they’ve been hearing it for years they want to actually see some of these guys you know and not just young players but studs they want to see him get it done all right who do you want you want Burns you want free do you want both yeah right they’re not getting both no I would take one you know I like burns more you know I know like some of the swinging Miss numbers but end of the year he’s threw that sweeper like the last three starts he brought it up out of nowhere I think it comes into play he’s just a horse it’s what they need right 200 Innings a guy you can count on putting top of the rotation they’re looking for postseason starters I like freed trust me I’ll take both of them they better improve that infield defense though if they’re going to get freed all right I’ll go to Garett crochet how much do you think this is a fit on so many levels for Boston and I’m going to put this out there okay so so Jim Bowden who we both know did his trade article and and I’ve never seen so many comments on an article like that and Red Sox fans and white sock fans are both saying it’s a BS trade we talked about it on our show Todd father got ripped so the trade he put out there was Conor Wong Tristan casus and Willer Brau I actually thought Wong’s a waste for the socks technically anyone that’s got Major League service time’s a waste because they really need to be projecting for three years from now but I just thought Red Sox fans were getting a little delirious thinking casus is a star and talking crap about crochet as if he’s not pitching like a number one starter just because he’s only done it for a year what do you think this a guy that costs nothing and could be a one isn’t he worth a lot yeah he is and quite frankly I think a lot of the people that talk about crochet just open up a baseball reference and look what he did in the second half and don’t know the story don’t know anything about him don’t know who he is he’s an absolute monster you know look you go back in like 2023 go look at Tariq sco’s year you know 80 Innings 15 starts you know at some point you got to just evaluate a dude say that’s exactly who he is and that’s who crochet is like to me I know it’s two years you extend him you’re the Red Sox but if you’re looking for highend stuff this guy was like right behind Blake Snell and Swinging miss you know in the zone like he’s kind of has it all uh I I know there’s risk but there’s risk in everybody I don’t care how healthy you are what your history is there’s risk and you have to be involved in that conversation is there a better handedness for a pitcher to pitch in Fenway I get it you’re only gonna make half your starts in Fenway but is it built more as a player that never played well I never played in a game I was on the Red Sox for two days but I always felt like lefties had more success in Boston than right-handers if you’re saying Burns and freed are equal which I’m not saying you are saying that but yeah is there more value in a lefty or a righty and who they should be pursuing I think I think it’s like you you got to talk about what kind of Lefty it is you know like back my day like glav was glavin was the guy right and you could just sort of fade that thing away because everybody wants to be pull happy and you can get guys to roll over and maybe free just kind of in that category with a little more velocity um so it kind of depends but a lot of the lefties a guy like Lester made a living Cutters you know just cutting it in on you and so there’s lefties can do it differently um freed can kind of you know he’s doesn’t give up much hard contact these guys love swing and Miss in the zone he doesn’t get much of that so you know the roll overs the ground balls you like just think a guy like Burns no matter what ballpark you put him in and I know that whatever they want to call what they did to Camden Yards it was a sin bring the fenses back because it’s an eyesore probably benefited out in left field but I just think a guy like that cutter sweeper there the stuff that he has I think he he works in any ballpark makes sense makes sense we’re talking about a special ballpark in Fenway yeah I I I did some Red Sox games this year and everything that they’re talking about is we need right-handed power power where are they going to find right-handed power because even you can talk about all the Red Sox prospects almost all of them are left-hand hitters and your heavy left-hand now hitting wise in the Red Sox where’s the Manny Ramirez Mike L where’s these big right-handed hitter guys that can come up there and snatch hook balls over the monster at Fenway Park is teoscar Hernandez on the table for the Red Sox or is there another righty out there we don’t know about I think teoscar is um but if you were tar why wouldn’t you go back to the Dodgers like doesn’t everybody just want to play for them you know so I if he goes back I’m not going to fault him but he is that right-handed pop he’s talked about it last offseason they probably should have got it done last off season before there’s a prospect draft pick attached to him now um because he’s loved hitting there he’s talked about how he’s loved playing there you know and that’s why you hear them talking about guys like bregman trying to figure out where they may fit you know is he that 40 home run guy no and they’ve done this over the years with O’Neal and Renfro and Duvall but those like pieces it’s time to get a guy and put him between Des and casus but does he exist you know I don’t want to sit spend you know one year talking about possibilities of Vlad coming here so they got to get creative and and I think you’re right you got to find that right-handed bat to kind of even this thing out Lou what’s your take on Rafael De at third base Alex Kora said it’s BS do you believe that for now and for the long term or cuz what he also said how much he loves bregman so if they sign bregman are they playing him somewhere else yeah I find hard to believe that bregman at this stage in his career is a position change it’s why you’ve hear Rumblings they’ve called the Cardinals on arado you know and it’s like no no no we’re not moving them I don’t buy it um but you know there’s no reason to talk about moving him unless you you make a move a reason to move him so why put it in this guy’s head you know all winter long that you’re G to go to first or you’re going to go somewhere else he’s your third baseman until a move is made and then cor has that conversation with him so I’m not really buying it but you know you never talk about a trade right because if it falls through next thing you know the guy’s walking in the clubhouse hearing he just got traded I think that’s kind of where they’re at now um I think he can play first base but of course that’s another moving part right that’s Tristan kasus most likely being moved but I I don’t cons I’m not worried at all about him going from third to First defensively was there ever a moment when you said the Red Sox are doing something with Juan sto here this could happen or did you stand fast that not a chance this is all just eyewash yeah I I never allowed myself to emotionally get involved I’ll put it that way however you know I was waiting for them to just get ruled out you know we’ve seen that before I felt like Yamamoto last year it was sort of like early on and once they found out where it was going they were automatically they were out this thing actually got to the final weekend so with every day I’m like you know but deep down I kept saying it’s gonna come down to the money like in order to him to come to Boston he’s going to want to be overwhelmed with this David Ortiz Pedro Martinez you know be a legend here in Boston Dominican Republic and he’s going to have to take less and and when does it ever come down to that we we love talking about it but when does it ever come down to a guy taking less they usually take the most money and go where that is wait wait wait why why why does he have to take less to go to Boston you just mentioned a lot of cool things that’s not money like being a Dominican Legend all that why does he have to take less going to Boston are the Boston Red Sox on hard times they don’t have they don’t have a lot of money they’re not bringing in Revenue yeah no they absolutely are $700 million I just don’t you think if they went to 760 what do you think Cohen goes to you know and I don’t think John Henry can play the game with Cohen they just quite frankly don’t have the money that Steve Cohen does nobody does that’s why they made a Cohen tax but if they go into to 750 760 Cohen’s going 800 810 he might already go there if he picks up the option so I don’t think you’re winning that battle with that guy just don’t Lou what’s the deal these days no hold up hold before you before you ask a question I’m staying on this okay why why can’t the Red Sox win why can’t the Red Sox I’m I don’t know l l said it you I don’t know what your question is I don’t really care well I want to you ask yours and I’m gonna my question is is why are the Red Sox in on everybody but they never get the guy when are they gonna actually get the guy that’s what IET the Red Sox used to always get the guy right they wanted to get Manny they got Manny they wanted to get this Kurt Schilling they went and got Kurt chilling they wanted to get this guy or that guy they went and got that guy right now they are like oh we tried but we can’t get them also what’s the number Lou these days because it’s looking more like it’s low 200s for the Red Sox right just did they they didn’t go past lury tax payroll this year or last year did they they haven’t been over it for years and they deserve to be criticized for it um they need to get in in that 280 range quite frankly and they’re like 70 million underneath right now and that’s been the biggest criticism they sit you know they wait for the farm system to develop and now maybe they feel like they’re going to be able to spend but um they’ve got the prospects in the big leagues they’ve got guys pre- arbitration they’ve been you know apparently ownership says we can now spend and that’s why lot’s on breslo right now if he’s got the okay to spend a lot of money and trade a lot of prospects they’re asking him to pull a Dave dumbrowski you know close these deals close these trades like Dumbo did back in 2016 that guy’s a Hall of Famer you know which the encouraging thing to me was hearing that Theo Epstein is down in Dallas because I think year two of of Craig bre could use a guy like Theo Epstein’s experience who could close a deal who could close a trade I think that helps I mean what’s he doing there we’ve been wondering what Theo’s role is the whole time did he join the Red Sox to kind of learn how to be an owner um to kind of learn from those guys or did he come in here to kind of be the secondhand guy or the mentor to Craig breslo so he’s kind of been behind the scenes figuring out what I don’t know and hopefully my I always felt like I wanted him to be in a closer for like this type type of stuff right now that you’re ready to kind of spend and ready to go out there and give Burns and give freed whatever it’s going to take and bring these guys in and start competing again so the luxury tax number was created partially for teams like Boston you’re just telling me how they can’t even get over that number I’m wondering what John Henry thinks of free agency these days right got rich as a Commodities guy is he looking at free agents and just saying I can’t fathom how I buy stocks like this anymore it’s gotten too large for me is it more about that is it more about how he sees teams like Cleveland and Tampa Bay pull off moderate range of success and he’s jealous that he has to spend a lot more for putting the same amount of players on a field yeah I think that’s probably the biggest criticism they look at it too analytically you know what I mean I think that he he he he made all those money on risk you know like like just risk a ver like just try to stay away from it the whole time and and I think when he looks at some players it’s why they like a guy like stto 25 26 there’s really no risk as far as the next 15 years 10 years of his career but when he looks at 30-year-old pictures this has been a critique of a lot of people like he just doesn’t believe in it you know and they look at people analytically intents of instead of being human beings like I’ve never seen anybody complain about what a player makes who goes out and performs like no one’s bitching you know about what CH Otani is making right now no one was crying about what all these Superstars are making when they go out and perform now he Gott burned a couple of times with some free agents but you know I I think for a while he was wondering if he can build it differently you know through like Fringe players um through minor league system but I think you’re at the point now where people in Boston it’s been five years like they they’re they don’t want that anymore they they don’t want the name that the computer spits out that’s got a high vertical swing Miss rate on his fast ball or all these other things they want Stars they want guys to go out there and root for and go to Fenway Park every single night so Lou I think part of the equation here is trade because h Bloom did a brilliant job of building up the farm system that’s what he was asked to do when they were really restricting the payroll so how much do you know about the prospects like who do you like and who would you consider trading right if we’re going back to the crochet situation and it’s going to require at least one of the big four at least one of the big four who would you deal who would you feel most comfortable dealing like let’s say at least this way who do you have to keep who do you who are you okay with and think is expendable I think there’s two tiers to the so-called big four you know I think I’m a guy that would trade anybody right because the goal is to improve your your big league team not have a number one farm system I don’t know if you get even get a medal for that so but with that said I’ve had many people reach out and say you’re not trading Roman Anthony and you know Christian Campbell like that’s a guy that that some teams value some people think his swings a little different um they’re not maybe crazy on other people think it’s through the roof because the hard hit rate stuff but I think those two right now seem Untouchable for this organization because you know they’re I’m not ever interested in just just kind of keeping prospects I think you’re going to be big Leaguers you’re either have to be a high impact guy or you’re getting moved right for the right deal so I think Meyer and teal those bottom two guys kind of fall into a category of listening to you’ve heard them maybe they’re offering uh Marcelo Meyer like this is a kid that they still like but the last three years I think he’s played 80 games you know in the minor leagues 85 they so this you know you’re a year away from being kind of labeled not being able to stay healthy you know so maybe he’s already there I don’t know so but I think those first two guys I think they’re kind of untouchable and then after that I think you move people all right last one for me uh Tyler O’Neal signs with the Rival Baltimore Orioles what did you think of how he looked this past season and should the Red Sox have made more an effort um or are you okay with Baltimore grabbing that bat no I think they’re ready to move on you know I mentioned guys like Duval and Renfro um who they brought in for one year guys he served the purpose right he brought him in they needed right handed power um you really had to manage his time to kind of keep keep on the field injuries still kind of rack up with him I thought early on in the year he seemed a lot more athletic you know in the L field and then as the year went on you can see the body start to wear down a little bit he wasn’t moving well um 30 home runs I don’t know 60 65 RBI kind of fluky you know I don’t know but the strikeout rate I me he struck out 33% of the time there were stretches where he he you would punch out you know 20 times in 35 at bats so they strike out too much as a team as it is so I think you have to go out there and you’re gonna lose that power you know so you got to try to replace it they got a lot of work to do but I think they were ready to move on and try to find a different guy all right one one move quick that they have to do to win the offseason give me the one move they have to make to to make this a successful offseason for the Red Sox well they got to sign Burns of freed I mean they got to get an anchor here for the next couple years you know and then after that you can mess around with your computer I don’t care what name gets spit out you know we could change his usage we could change this we could change that whatever but you got to get you got to get a guy like Burns and or freed and somebody on top of this very young rotation really good Insight Lou thank you appreciate you man all right guys take it easy thanks Lou you too thanks Lou Lou merone give him a follow l m r l n i on Twitter catch them on WE Ness and more up in Boston [Music] B MJM win totals this is a look back at last year okay eventually in the new year we’ll look at the win totals for 20125 we don’t have that yet but right now if we look at last year it was an 89 win team and they opened up the season at 81 and a half that current number was what they had from March 27th of 2024 so if you bet the over on the Mets win total congratulations because I bet the under did you really I did I had the them in the high 70s it wasn’t a five star selection by any means but it was looking pretty good early on they were pretty bad and then we brought Mindy on the show and everything changed a lot of things went right and I mentioned how the pitching shine sarino manah changing things but also watching the Mets for a long time in life Mark Vos Vos Lindor had his best season wait but how about this they were healthy the Mets are never healthy like that they had almost no injuries some people are going to bring up a Nick here and there but if you compare what they had versus most other contenders they were one of the healthiest teams for their stars in the game Pete played the whole year Lor played the whole year besides the end of this season their what their Ace didn’t pitch just their Ace from the year before top three sa young let’s compare what they had versus the Braves they’re catcher they’re catcher miss a chunk of time he’s very important mcneel wasn’t doing much until he came back from his injury but they were losing when when Francisco was out correct they stayed very healthy for the most part you’re right their starter their number one starter was hurt by the way kodai sengo when fully healthy is a number one but the reason why he was such a quote discount is because of what we saw this past season that’s what team said when I was like how was he so cheap for a number one starter when he looked that good with the ghost fork and the word back was some teams didn’t like the Medicals but two years ago he was great $1,500 first bet offer use the bonus code ffbm jam.com or if you’re cool like us sign up for the app put in at least 10 bucks and on your first bet you can get up to $1,500 back in bonus bets it’s the the rock the promo code that’s always there for for you if you’re new to the party gambling problem or concern call 1800 Gambler we’ll be back in less than one minute the mischievous a only spending because they have to or they get flat [Music] okay this is a wild one so Evan drich put out an article about why the AES really purchased Luis seino they have to not srino specifically but what most people don’t realize is the Ace are getting more money from other teams than what they even spend on player payroll let alone local TV money National TV money gate which I get it they had the lowest attendance but you still make money money off people coming into your ballpark okay so you have to spend one and a half times more than what you get from the local Revenue sharing money this is all coming from evangelic article in the athletic and it was great it’s not a guaranteed punishment but it gives the players union pretty good evidence for a grievance if you’re not holding your weight and their revenue sharing money is going to grow because of the market they’re going to in Las Vegas they’re collecting 100% of their rev share money again right now which is about $70 million their luxury tax number with seino is only 78.4 I know this is going to be shocking news to most of you but the Oakland A’s owner is stuffing his pockets with cash for years and now is probably looking to do so even more than ever because he does have to pay for new ballpark I’ll give him that but they have to get their payroll to at least the 105 range of course they promised in this ramp up period they were going to get it to the 130 to 150 range that was a lie don’t worry about that I doubt you’re going to see that for 2025 but the point of this article was they literally have to do this or they face some pretty strict grievances coming their way so I’ve heard I heard about this a while ago and the thing is is that they’re not the only team in this there’s other teams that are involved in this that are low Market payroll teams and basically what happens is the commissioner because of these grievances goes to them and says you’re going to lose your local Revenue sharing you’re going to lose the revenue sharing if you don’t spend money Mone and owners are like yeah right well I think I’m not I’m not going to say hey Rob Manfred did this or the grievance did this I’m not exactly sure how this came about but basically he said John fiser you gotta Rob Manford said you got to spend money or you lose your Revenue sharing which is like $70 million you lose all that and so he’s like oh crap I have and and this is good I mean this listen it’s not a a salary floor but this is the first time where I’ve actually seen it come into play so for all the crap that Scott you like to give Rob Manford and and some other things I mean this was actually I don’t know if it was him personally but there is this is him basically saying a you have to spend money this is the CBA first of all to John Fischer I want to be very clear about that I’m being giving crap to Rob manfred’s boss one of his bosses which is John Fischer he’s the owner of the A’s and he’s a joke and everyone wants him out but that’s what the situation is here crat just so everyone’s aware and uh and Dr and some of them oh let’s see and will sammon were writing an article yesterday about who they could be in play for to try and get to that number Kyle Gibson’s name was brought up Andrew heini Lance Lynn which I laughed at you think Lance Lyn’s gonna sign with Sacramento they give him the most money will okay anyway that tells the story of what they’re trying to do now do I think they’re a bad team I think they’re getting better I just want to be clear that this is being forced and also Katz there was a grievance filed by the players union in 2018 against the A’s the Marlins the Pirates and the Rays it was not resolved during the last CBA it’s still pending so this stuff doesn’t get settled much but this to me like AJ said seems to be the line the floor hey can you get above this number because then they don’t have much of a case against Oakland against atth you need you need to have some type of Smoking Gun you need to have an email saying hey we’re not g to spend that’s why teams are tight lipped about a lot of stuff but the big thing we glossed over you said it this is the first year that they’re getting getting Revenue sharing the first year they didn’t get Revenue sharing in Oakland because it was a ginormous market so a guy leaves a market that has a great fan base to get $70 million more I get it he has to pay for a new stadium I get it but that started this year that starts this year now 70 million yeah well guess what that’s how it works and that’s one of the reasons why he wanted to move out of Oakland because he wasn’t getting it now he’s getting it and guess where and guess where Las Vegas is ranked on the on the list of markets the bottom it is way down there it’s 40 40 as of this was 20 243 it’s in the 40s no other team is past what the 30s the 28 Baltimore 29 San Diego 30 Kansas City 34 Cincinnati the low was the Milwaukee’s 38 okay so no other teams in the 40s you know where we’re is I’m going to guess 25 21 17 16 16 they’ll be they’ll pass 14 in next year sounds like Orlando might get a team someday ain’t saying I’ve been saying it but someone been saying it and Oakland where was Oakland Florida really Florida’s really worked for baseball that’s not also true San Francisco Oakland is 10 I mean it’s it’s kind of a combined thing right they did a market study and said the A’s shouldn’t be getting rev share money that was done a while ago and the re the A’s are like we’re broke and then we’re getting real math here that’s saying they’re getting as much money just on the charity that’s given out to them as their payroll and again not counting any of their actual revenue streams which do exist the teams all split their National Television money it’s good money I just want to be clear on that when someone says oh we’re broke owning a team is bad business feel bad for us yeah and K as far as Florida not working for baseball Florida will work for baseball if it’s put in the right spot look at the raise ratings on television they’re through the roof so it’ll work you give them a good Stadium you give them a place to go people will show up in Florida so that that that that narrative to me doesn’t doesn’t fly necessarily that people oh you know baseball doesn’t work here they support three football teams the hockey teams they support two of them great right they have NBA they have two NBA teams that are supported off the chain so the lightning the lightning is a prime example the lightning is a prime example because everybody located exactly everybody argues they’re like they’re like oh you know there’s so much baseball in Florida so there is zero hockey and everybody comes out to lightning games so don’t give me the whole like Miami screwed it up too the Marlins put their stadium in the wrong area of Miami terrible spot terrible spot it’s just it’s it is it is a tired narrative that I hope AJ’s the AJ what are they be called the Orlando pinis Orlando skis skis I hope you don’t screw this up okay AJ I hope you don’t screw this up because we will roast you on this show foul territory Park I’m just saying there are certain cities that want baseball and one of them is Orlando one of them is Salt Lake oh yeah I I’ve been on the Salt Lake train for a while the problem is with Salt Lake is it’s a small Market it’s a small it’s a really small Market but they’ll sell out but the question is is they already have hockey they already have basketball can they fit in baseball in there I mean there’s a ton of money they’ll sell out they’ll do a real estate deal to build up a certain they definitely do that and the government will give money that’s the trifecta that’s what they care about that’s the trifecta right there you know who else would do that Orlando yeah you know who else has a ton of tax Taurus dollars lined up UCF the mayor or Orlando I’m just saying all right that’s true be great be great the Orlando Katz hats [Music] hello two things during this two and a half minute break for the YouTube crowd number one we did have a real signing yesterday that we didn’t get to Alex Cobb signs with the Tigers nice good depth move yeah okay in the playoff healthy yeah yeah I mean that’s you know we keep talking about all these guys Alex Cobb has kind of not been healthy for a while pitched all right in the playoffs for Cleveland last year so yeah good move I also saw how the tigers are experiencing PTSD from their buas deal come on get over it from their what from their hobby buas deal there’s reports that time they like guys enough it’s time you made the playoffs you got scoo the best pitcher in baseball like it’s time to go yeah Ry Green’s a stud let’s go all right Jonathan Corona thank you for the Super Chat said what are you guys hearing for the Angels I know they want to trade Taylor Ward but Third Base another hitter if so who do you guys want the angels to get they’re not well they’re not gonna trade for a third base when they got ren do sitting there no they’re going to trade they’re going to get somebody else I think they actually are going to purposely get someone else to play Third tell rendone kick rocks and sit on the bench wow B Play Cotton I mean I don’t think I think it’s big free agent to play Third they’re gonna go get bregman to play over him no no no who do they trade for though oh man they need they still need pitching I know they made some moves they need but is is Ward gonna bring you a a topof the rotation guy no you’re going to have no no no you’re going to have to find some other pieces to throw in there you’re going to have to go out that’s why I’m just I’m always surprised the Angels aren’t in on a Burns or a freed I mean Freed’s from La so like Burns you know went to college out there like it’s just it’s it’s the strange organization like that it’s like they always oh we want to go bats they got a bunch of young told you why Arty Moreno doesn’t believe in paying big money for starters because they don’t play every day and he looks at it differently he doesn’t understand why they get as much money as a position player that was a real quote from back in the day high high up person told me the quote doesn’t think think that a starter should get as much money because they don’t play every day how do you Market that and build around that H how do I tell my audience that pays good money that only once a week they can see the dude I’m paying more than anyone else in theory from a business sense it makes sense but not in baseball yeah I don’t know pitching is the most important part if you can pitch and you can catch it you always have a chance I mean that’s just the way it is look at it if you can pitch it it really well and you can catch it really well you got a chance if you can hit it really well you can get out pitched MH it happens should s good hitting yeah they should get freed that would be my guy for them but I don’t think they will [Music] [Music] oh we might have some ft breaking news soon but we’ll finish Today’s Show The Regular Show with the freed sweep Stakes Ken Rosenthal just putting this out there said it appears set to conclude with an AL East tug of war Yankees Red Sox Blue Jays expected to choose his next team by Thursday said Corbin Burns believed to be generating interest from the same three AL East clubs and perhaps the Giants and other teams said the Rangers remain in the mix for freed but unclear if they can go that hard for him any guesses now that we’ve narrowed it down I still think Boston needs it more than anybody to me Boston makes the most sense I think Yankees makes the least sense I agree Yanke Yankees need other problems they have I mean they have Cole they have rodon they have strowman still they have Nester they have Schmidt they have they have more starting pitching they need Bullpen and position player help the Blue Jays just need help in general and they they do have some I mean gsman and bass some of the other guys buritos and some of their guys they have but the Blue Jays to me need Bullpen help and position player help so to me the Red Sox we just had Lum Marone on they need a starting pitcher that can anchor the rotation here’s your guy and when the Red Sox are good they have a good left-handed pitcher also Kats the Blue Jays couldn’t hit last year so shouldn’t they figure that part out first yeah and they got they still have kept a couple of their pitchers so to me I mean why would it not be the Yankees though because they had a great 90minut Zoom call the other day like I thought that just meant that you’re automatically going to that team if you have a great Zoom call that is they loved each other the Red Sox to me it’s to me it’s the Red Sox because the Red Sox can’t miss out on them I would disagree with Lou merone or maybe he didn’t say they’re going to get Burns maybe he said he likes Burns I think Burns is better and I think that’s why the Red Sox are going to be like well we can’t spend that much I think we’re g to we’re GNA see something in the David price range for Max free 212 break in and do a show here’s the deal if he signs with the Yankees pinstriped territory is the spot subscribe to that channel if he signs with another team it’s GNA be us there’s Derek he signs with the Red Sox because we don’t have a Red Sox show yet might have one soon or if he signs with the Blue Jays there’s no Blue Jays territory on the horizon right now then might be a little ft show on freed I hope we get Burns this week too and that’s it it’s all I got when when are we gonna hear Jack flar someone in the chat mention about Jack flar he was really good how come we we haven’t heard a peep about him after Burns and freed after Burns and freed Next Level yeah right Kats kuch yeah but Kikuchi range maybe I mean look what sevie got look what Kikuchi got and flarity is pretty young so he’s looking for I would say probably five years I think he might get it because Kikuchi got three and he’s like five years older than him got five years I Aldi’s pretty good maniah is the one for me if he can rep to Rangers yeah or or The Orioles because he doesn’t have a draft pick attached to him true you laugh but it’s real Ken confirmed it oh I get it I get itraid I get it Ken’s never right that we prove that today’s always right we’re back every day 1 to three Eastern live if you’re watching on YouTube subscribe to the channel we’ll do breaking news shows if there’s big big boy free agent signings or trades thanks F fam [Music] [Music]
