people are going to make a big deal about Kentucky basketball scoring over a 100 points yet again tonight but I think their suffocating defense that they had against Jackson state is even more [Music] impressive you are locked on Kentucky your daily podcast on the Kentucky Wildcats part of the locked on podcast Network your team every day all right what’s going on Big Blue Nation and welcome on in to locked on Kentucky your daily Kentucky Wildcats podcast I’m your host Lance DAW and on today’s episode of Locked on Kentucky we are going to be recapping Kentucky basketballs 108 to 59 win over the Jackson State Tigers you heard it correctly 108 points from the wild cats but like I mentioned just a second ago I think the wild cats and their defense were more impressive here tonight thank you guys so much for making lock on Kentucky your first list in every single day want to remind everyone out there that we are free and available on all platforms if you are watching on YouTube I would greatly appreciate it if you subscribe to the show and if you are listening on podcast I would also appreciate it if you subscribed there as well all right let’s go ahead and get into it Kentucky basketball 108 points and even 54 points in both halves you love to see it three different 12 to2 runs here in this game8 points to Jackson State’s 59 it was a question as to whether or not Jackson State would get to 60 plus tonight and usually Kentucky over the course of the very early portion of this season against W State Bucknell lipom they have sort of thrown in the towel towards the end of games because they’ve been up by so much that was not the case tonight defensively Kentucky again suffocating on the defense to vend a 12-2 run to finish out the last three minutes or so of this contest we will get into the points we will get into the offense but I want to start here with one major statistic turnovers yes we’ve talked about field goal percentage we’ve talked about three-point percentage we’ve talked about all these different things turnovers in this game were big for the Wildcats Kentucky came into this game as one of the worst teams essentially in the nation in terms of turnover percentage on defense meaning how many of your opponent’s possessions ended in a turnover it was about 13ish per I think for the Wildcats it has now jumped to 14.7% after this game tonight they were able to create 17 different turnovers from the Jackson State Tigers they were able to turn that into 24 points worth of offense that is what you need I think to continue to improve on outside of Rim defense which we will get to here in just a second but man you have to love that number 17 turnovers to just six assists for the Jackson State Tigers yes we came into this game knowing that Jackson State was not anything special offensively but they were able to do a couple of different things as far as getting to the foul line getting it to a couple of their big time scores and everybody essentially struggled taking care of the basketball and it was because Kentucky was able to get into passing Lanes they were able to create some Havoc you had 13 steals tonight three from Lamont Butler three from egga o three from Brandon Garrison by the way who had himself a night we get to him later on in the show but man you love to see the effort and the intensity throughout this entirety of this game I am impressed man with the way that this coaching staff Scouts prepares and executes they have got this team locked in right now and you love to see it you absolutely love to see it you’ve got Western Kentucky on Tuesday arguably the second best opponent you will have seen up until this point uh with the best opponent obviously being the Duke Blue Devils according to Kim pom they’re the second best team Kentucky will have faced you have to continue to focus you cannot let games like this in games like uh the game against lipsum you can’t just sort of zombie walk into the next one this is one of those performances where you come out of it as a fan you expected to win you win by a ton you feel great you don’t really think about it until the next time these teams step on step out onto the court or at least this team steps out onto the court you got to lock in you got to stay focused games like this are what really do continue to propel your momentum you’re get in big time blowout wins it will hype you up as you get into the bigger contest just stay laser focused Kentucky and I think they’re going to because they’ve done a really good job of it five games in again the defense great you go and look at some of the statistics here 33% from the field that’s what Jackson State shot in this game they shot 28.6% in the second half you were able to shut things down in the second period of play even more so than you did in the first half just 19% from 34 of 21 Kentucky now has the nation’s fourth best three-point defense at 22.4% part of that has to do with the fact that they played some opponents that just simply can’t shoot the three that well but man they have really done a great job locking down wherever they can it’s actually funny um some of the the better uh offenses I should say actually I I will I will correct myself Kentucky has played two of the worst three-point shooting teams on their schedule in lipsum and Jackson State but R State Bucknell and Duke are all in the top half of their schedule so I will take that back kuy’s obviously faced a couple of decent three-point shooting teams and they’ve still been able to lock it down so props to mark pop props to this staff props to this team able to go out there and really dominate uh Jamie Mitchell Jr who is the big time scorer I was afraid of two of nine in this game just seven points and a couple of turnovers and 23 minutes of play this is what you love to see you have the team going 50% from the line 19% from three 33% from before we talked about that 30 or 39% Mark for Kentucky you got there in this game once again 17 points yes Jackson State was able to get some rebounds but this is one of the honestly it’s weird to and they even brought this up on the broadcast this is going to be one of the better rebounding teams that Kentucky sees this season and part of it is because of their chaotic shot selection you just don’t expect them to be fogging up shots whenever they do and there’s a guy that just ends up happening to be in the right spot for a long rebound I’m not concerned about the rebounding total tonight or the second chance points Kentucky was able to dominate regardless they were able to get nine blocks in this game as well just a block and dunk party for Kentucky we’ll continue to break this down talk about Kentucky basketball has won 108 to 59 victory over the Jackson State Tigers before we do that though I want to tell you guys about our friends over at game time you guys obviously know what it’s like to be able to experience the atmosphere of watching college basketball live you’ve been to rup Arena you’ve been to the neutral sight games that Kentucky’s been to it’s like celebrity sightings things going on in the court the what time is it game time all right continuing along here on the late Friday night edition of locked on Kentucky land style hanging out here with you really appreciate you guys checking out the show today if you’ve not subscribed to the YouTube channel or the podcast feed I would greatly appreciate it if you did so recapping Kentucky basketball’s 108 to 59 win over the Jackson State Tigers we will get to individual performances here in just a moment but first a couple of things kin pom update as I love to give you guys and I just refreshed my page and something new just popped up on it so here we go so Kentucky came into this game ranked 15th on Kim pom they dropped to 16th after this game and I don’t necessarily think it’s anything that they did it has to be something in the rankings that happened around them because they improved in a variety of statistical areas most notably their adjusted defensive efficiency they were ranked 32nd heading into this game and I said in yesterday’s or earlier today’s uh episode segment where I did uh mark it down breaking down some hot takes for you guys I was like Mark it down we’ll pull it up on the YouTube channel here if you’re watching I was like Mark it down Kentucky basketball is going to be in the top 30 and adjusted offensive efficiency by the time they’re done with Jackson State and Western Kentucky because of how bad their offenses are and sure enough Kent Kentucky able to take that and they were able to go out there and manhandle Jacksonville State on the defensive end of the floor up to now 28th and adjusted offensive efficiency they were 27th before I refreshed my page and I’ll refresh again just to make sure yep still 28th so I think Kentucky will maintain there and looks like we’ll be right at least hopefully fingers crossed about that prediction on Market down Kentucky though 12th on offense and adjusted efficiency still they are sixth in the country in effective field goal percentage at 61.3% they’re shooting almost 60% from two 42.3% from Beyond The Arc offense and Ken pal has sent out some newsletters about this I think other college basketball content creators have talked about this offense is back in a way that we’ve not seen before this season teams are scoring at an insane rate I think it has to do with the transfer portal I think it has to do with people being able to kind of construct their rosters maybe a little bit differently because of that and I think Kentucky is a prime example of what you can do if you put together the offense that you want with the pieces that you want through the portal and you can have a lot of success with that especially if you have a solid coach Kentucky right now they were like ranked low at the beginning of the season in terms of Point distribution from three so the percentage percentage of total points that they got from three they now get 39% of their points from Beyond The Arc which is 48th n 48th nationally so they are climbing there um what are the lowest in the nation like 30th lowest in the nation in terms of free throws they get only 14% of their points from the charity stripe that is 332nd nationally goodness gracious Kentucky 15th and average height fourth in the the nation in division one experience 12th in the nation in bench minutes 71st in two foul participation and 354th in minutes continuity so this is a team that is deep they can rotate with fouls they are tall they are experienced they are balanced on both ends of the floor uh this is as good of a start as you could have possibly asked for if you are a Kentucky fan if you are a Kentucky fan watching this I want you to tell me what could have possibly gone better for Kentucky to start this season you have scored 100 points three different times already you almost scored 100 against lipsum you scored 97 there you beat number four Duke at a neutral sight by five it’s the first win against Duke in almost a decade you are climbing the rankings in all sorts of different places what could possibly be better than where Kentucky is right now I really do hope KnockOn w that they are able to carry some of this momentum into December and January and February and beyond I really do hope that this is not the end I hope they are able to continue to play well that Clemson game is going to be huge on December 3rd in terms of picking up a quad one win possibly on the road against a tough opponent and a good coach and Brad Brownell I believe his name is this is about as good as it gets man right now with where Kentucky is at and their offense their offense it was clicking in this one shooting 58% from the floor were the kinaki Wildcats they were 41 of 71 overall 17 of 39 from three in the first half Kentucky not shooting very well from three if I’m not mistaken or excuse me like M like early on in the second half because they were at one point they were shooting like a clean they were like N9 of 27 of some or something like that um they were shooting like a clean 33% and then all of a sudden they started firing on all cylinders late they were finished the second half n of 19 they again finished the game 44% from three 43.6 I think uh they shot 90% from the foul line only got nine or excuse me 10 free throw attempts there you shot well everywhere uh you you grabbed 41 rebounds and here’s another great stat for you so last game Kentucky had what 10 assists to eight turnovers there was like not a ton uh in terms of just assists uh in ball movement between teammates there Kentucky made an uh made it a point of emphasis heading in this one into this one and you got 29 assists to 10 turnovers 29 assists to 10 turnovers we’ll go ahead and highlight it here kurk kesa has not been able to hit the broadside of a barn to start this season all due respect to the kid he was objectively one of the best Shooters in the nation coming out of uh the transfer portal he’s shooting like 26 % from three right now or something like that it it is not going well I think it’s simply the shot selection his shot selection has been underwhelming to start the year but what the kid has been able to do playing point guard is incredible Distributing the ball seven assists in 12 minutes off the bench tonight doesn’t really get much better than that if you’re asking for a for a guard Off the Bench to give you a spark 12 minutes seven assists seven dimes few rebounds as well you love to see it all right let’s wrap up the show let’s highlight some individual performances here before we do that want to tell you guys fanduel.com never waste a hunch and make every moment more with FanDuel an official Sportsbook partner of the NFL all right wrapping up the late Friday edition of lockon Kentucky Lance doll hanging out here here with you breaking down Kentucky basketballs near 50o victory over the Jackson State Tigers they were projected to win by th 34 and a half and they covered okay let’s break down the individual performances we’ll start here with the guy you see if you’re watching on YouTube He’s listed here on the notes egga OA went off go off King 21 points eight of 12 from the floor 21 points ties his season high he had a rebound two assist three steals in 20 minutes o OA and I think a couple of you said this on social media we need we need to have a conversation OA scoring 21 points and just like casually doing it and casually leading Kentucky in scoring he’s now up to has to be up to like 17 plus points he was averaging like 15 something heading into this he is he may be the most well-rounded player on this team and if he stays and he comes back next season it’s a first team all SEC it’s an All-American type player if you can get 17 and and the defense and the efficient shooting and the limited amount of minutes only 20 minutes a game I absolutely I will absolutely take that o finishing at The Rim physical you saw some aggressive dunks from him tonight not taking it and soft layups which he’s missed a couple and I mean literally like maybe one or two and you can see the frustration he took it down the lane he threw that stuff down tonight love to see that he can shoot the three he was one of four tonight but it was it was a couple different shots that weren’t great his form is interesting I’ll say that um I I would say it’s necessarily poor it’s just interesting I think that better shot selection will lead to efficient games as he’s had in the past OA was spectacular tonight and a guy that every time you see him catch the ball and he is even slightly open you get a little scared if you’re an opponent and if you’re a Kentucky fan you’re just like yes take me home Kobe Brea who had 22 points was eight of 11 in this game five of eight from three man man man man man the shots dude they are just so pure it is beautiful basketball Kell Grady was such a good jump shooter this guy’s this guy’s pure man this guy is something else through five games Kobe Brea has taken 27 threes he has made 20 he is shooting 74% from Beyond The Arc that is currently second in the country excuse me check that it has been updated it is currently best in the nation I don’t know if there’s another player in the nation that is shooting as efficiently as Brea and is made 23s excuse me one player has made more threes that I can see on Kim pom and that’s dalen Davis of Princeton he’s shooting 52.4% from Beyond The Arc so he’s 22 of 42 Ryan Conwell of Xavier has made 20 so as many as Brea but but it looks like d it looks like Davis is the only player to make more and shoot even in his vicinity in terms of of efficiency there are some players that have hit somewhere between to a dozen to 17 nobody is getting close to Kobe Brer right now in terms of efficiency his offensive his offensive rating is 176.50 wow oh by the way and I I’m going off on a tangent here um Kobe BR phenomenal tonight plus 18 he had two rebounds he had a block and a steal to go along with that let’s talk about assist rate here for a second you guys you know you you guys know I love I love numbers assist rate is like the percentage of possessions that you give an assist on when you on the floor and like really good guards will be like 25% plus if you want to guess ky’s top three players in terms of assist rate I’ll give you top four number one is Kirk kesa obviously at 39 a half% which is 26 nationally that would have been good for like first of the country by a country mile a season go just shows you how good offense has been to start the season 39.5% from karesa the man that is second on the team at assist rate meaning when he is on the floor he assists the second most on the team uh it’s not Amari Williams it’s not Lamont Butler it’s Brandon Garrison at 23.4% he’s got a higher assist rate than Lamont who it’s who is at 22.8% Amari fourth on the team at 17.9 so it goes point guard big point guard big for Kentucky in terms of assist rate that’s that’s it’s crazy but it’s more it’s more funny to me that is more funny to me that’s hilarious uh Andrew car at 13 OA at 11 there in terms of assist rate but we continue on I just wanted to point that out I think that’s hilarious that Brandon Garrison is second second on the team in assist rate uh which tonight we’ll go ahead and talk about him tonight tonight he had six points on three of seven shooting he fogged up a couple of Threes that shouldn’t have taken which is fine so that means he would have been three of five outside of that you’re he’s just hurting his percentage I mean it doesn’t matter to Kentucky but he’s just hurting his percentage if we’re being honest six points eight rebounds three blocks three steals six assists from your 610 Center you get 6 6 8 3 and three in 23 minutes a play and he’s got a plus minus of plus 24 um if that’s not enough to convince you that he is a an extremely Valuable Player for Kentucky next season as a starting center I don’t know what else to say he played six more minutes than Amari tonight and Amari led the team in plus minus he had four points eight rebounds he had three assists himself with no turnovers good job of marari no turnovers two blocks kuy’s getting production out of their bigs and so many different ways outside of scoring you love to see that you love to see it Jackson Robinson not the most efficient night but he started hot he was 14 points he shot four of 10 from Beyond The Arc he had a rebound an assist a steal plus 21 in 22 minutes such so balanced this Kentucky rotation in terms of minutes angsley Almanor had 10 Off the Bench he was he was three of six from the floor he had a couple or a few rebounds uh a steel as well if I’m not mistaken Andrew Carr only had six points but he was very efficient six points six rebounds five assists this whole team dishes it out man Lamont 11 points four rebounds five assists three steals this this it’s just it’s games like this that makes you appreciate the entire roster man you’re probably not going to get another game this year that is as statistically rich as this contest tonight against Jackson State it’s mostly because this is the worst opponent that they’re probably going to face um Al respect the Jackson State Mo Williams who did a couple of really nice things in this game but yeah that this is um a fat dub for Kentucky you got Western Kentucky on Tuesday we’ll be previewing it on Monday make sure you are subscribed if you want to be there for that thank you guys so much for tuning in that is going to do it for today’s episode of lockon
