record which is my favorite thing to do they’re going to keep breaking This Record they’re going to keep extending it this Kentucky team is awesome I know it’s Jackson State I know it’s a swack team I know that they’ve been beating up on Mid mid and low Majors but this is what you’re supposed to do this like when you’re playing a team of this caliber the game’s never supposed to be in doubt you’re supposed to look faster more athletic more skilled more everything that’s exactly what Kentucky did in this game it is 108 to 59 Victory it just seemed like Kentucky was running down the court before Jackson State catch its breath on every single possession 43 fast break points like this this team is just compared to wait do you want to guess take a guess how many fast break points Jackson State had if Kentucky had 43 Kentucky you said Kentucky had 43 uhhuh I’m guess Jackson State had eight seven Great guess honestly I was gonna say seven yeah yeah I was gonna say seven but you but bumped him up a little too much yeah this uh it it really did feel like Kentucky just got whatever they wanted on offense it was like a paint touch kick out for three made three or it was like even Andrew Carr was leading the break and handling a little bit and finding Amari Williams for just thunderous dunks that was my takeaway with how Elite this offense continues to look but what most stuck out to you about Kentucky in this one I think the thing that stuck out the most about Kentucky to me is just um the consistency like we’re five games in and we’ve seen it against a variety of different opponents and it’s look the exact same regardless of the opponent um I mean against Duke they showed some flaws like if their shots aren’t going in like they’re gonna struggle um but that’s basketball like ball doesn’t go through the hoop you struggle like it I I hate when people like go to shooting team if they can’t shoot that Knight like it doesn’t matter like like the ball doesn’t go in the basketball you’re GNA struggle like that’s just or the ball doesn’t go in the hoop excuse me like that’s just how the sport works so I hate that analogy but um they like I I just think this team is so deep it’s so consistent um the only thing I wish they had a little bit more of is self-creation um but Jackson Robinson looks like phenomenal um I I just I think they need another dude next to him I’m Gonna Keep harping on it I think K he’s one of the best teams in the country but I’ll say it for a long time I think you need a legit NBA guy to win a championship and I do at the moment I don’t know if I see that with them um besides OA o beside like he to me is a first round pick but not a first round pick in the manner I’m talking about with like you need an NBA D like he he’s a first round pick because he’s the next loot d i i you need a guy that’s going to go get you 20 or 30 when your team’s struggling yeah he does really he fits that mold of like the I call him like the chaos causing two guards you know your Duce MCB your Lou dortz of the world uh I mean Nik Alexander Walker to a a lesser extent um I think I don’t think of him is quite as defensive mind as those other to but uh yeah that to me is like definitely the archetype he will eventually fill on an NBA roster I I don’t know I I see where you’re coming from where you want an NBA guy who can create for himself but like there have been some college teams to to be filled with late first early second round guys that end up winning national titles at least I think they’re have been I’m thinking of my 27 honestly my 2017 tar Hills are the one that come to mind sorry everything comes back to UNC in my mind but they had wasn’t cam on that team no that was before Cam that was Justin Jackson who was a 15th overall pick and Theo Pinson those were the only J John wasn’t on that team he was there in 2018 2019 he came the year after so I mean Carolina Theo Pinson and uh Justin Jackson were the only two guys to play probably more than 20 NBA games on that roster trying to think like that that villain NOA team that won after them was loaded 2019 Virginia I mean it was m D aite Kyle guy who’s already out of the league Ty Jerome who’s still hang is Jerome might be the only one oh DeAndre Hunter du top five pick um yeah I mean there there I think there’s a path you know I think there’s a definite path but it probably does involve Jackson Robinson maybe ascending another level um and showing that he can be like a like a late first round pick or something to to get them to that level like I think they they will eventually need more shot creation um than just Robinson but if he can become one of the better guards in the country I guess maybe that’ll cover it up some enough to where they they could make a final four an eventual National Title run I mean y my bad I’m stuck on this North Carolina roster this sorry Kentucky Fant we didn’t mean to turn it to Chapel Hill this team had four NBA dudes in Luke may like I I think this team was yeah I think it’s a little different but uh what was the question about that just that I was saying like since there isn’t a clear shot Creator I I mean I think Lamont Butler has shown a lot more offensively than I ever anticipated I I give a huge shout out to Mark Pope for getting the most out of him on that end and he had one of the most disgusting dunks I’ve seen this season in this one like right after Jackson Robinson had one but um I think since with like some of the shot creation questions you need Jackson Robinson to take another leap to be a guy who you could see going in like the late first round to to cover up for that I think yeah I mean I think I think they have some NBA dudes like I think like I said OA o to me when I think when it’s honestly this GNA sound crazy when it’s all said and done I think OTA O is a top 20 pick I think he’s going to be borderline Lotto I think there’s going to be a team like the Sixers um or a team like the Knicks or even the Celtics a team that like has limited draft Capital but need somebody to play right away that’s going to like use their limited draft Capital to move up because at the same time those teams don’t want to use a bunch of roster spots on draft picks like there’s a variety of reasons why he makes sense for certain teams um and I think someone’s gonna move up to get him because it’s he can start tomorrow in the yeah that’s it’s well said um so yeah they might have enough to like I I mean I’m buy it’s still kind of hard for me to Envision them like cutting down the Nets in the national title game just since Pope hasn’t won a tournament game yet and that’s not even meant as a slide on on Pope Kentucky fans like I’m I’m very I’ve had a big change of heart regarding this this hire I think he’s really freaking good and the results are showing um but yeah just because I I don’t know I can’t remember the last time we saw a team that was so balanced to where it was like any one of these dudes could go off on any given night and that’s because it feels a little bit unknown that’s what has me a little more hesitant to to call it a title Contender like don’t you want don’t well like I see the argument for it to having any guy who can hurt you any given night as opposed to like a clear cut Alpha um but that that leans that does lead into one more question we can kind of wrap things up with this um it it ties into just the balance of this Kentucky roster the consistency that you mentioned we mentioned the 17 made threes Dion I know you played basketball at a high level in high school had some big- time teammates and played in some big Time games what most surprises me is that you have Kobe Brea come off the bench to hit 5 threes uh you got anley Almanor to come off the bench and go two for five from from from three you have Colin Chandler coming off the bench going two of three I just think that like see bench players aren’t supposed to shoot this well like you’re you’re not supposed to be in such a good Rhythm coming off the bench like is does that speak to your exper like in your experience wouldn’t you say like coming off the bench you got to get it’s tough to to get yourself in Rhythm and fit in or like that to me is what at least as someone who did not play high level basketball kind of that’s that makes logical sense to me and therefore it puts my mind in a pretzel that all these Kentucky dudes just come off the bench and they’re still snipers yeah so I definitely came off the bench in high school I didn’t get in the game that much though um but when I got in the game I made sure to get my shots up like I was if I was playing once a month those like three minutes in that one game a month like I I let it fly like I had to make sure pops and moms like saw me get a few shots up but um yeah it’s definitely harder to come off the bench like in any sport to be honest with you um and like stay in a rhythm but what the reason I think the Kentucky dudes do it so well is how unselfish the team is like you when you’re the reason it’s tough to come off the bench and be in a rhythm is because you don’t know when you’re going to get the ball and that’s why like playing with LeBron like people always like trash his teammates like oh they can’t shoot why are they such good Shooters on other teams it’s because on other teams they know they’re going to get the ball like when you play with a heliocentric style offense around one player you might not touch the ball for seven minutes you might only play 15 minutes in that game like every shot there’s so much pressure on you um I think with Kentucky there’s no pressure on anybody because you’re regardless of how much you play like you’re going to get the ball again you don’t have to worry about that I think that’s really well said and yeah the unselfishness shows in game in game out really fun Kentucky team we’ve loved covering them so far this season and can’t
