couple of minutes was a bit of a dub but you get the point people at home people that were watching the playby playay people that were watching along saw what it was tonight a complete dismantling of this magic vaunted magic defense Nicks came in and did the damn thing bro Stars led the way Brunson and towns Brunson set a great tone tonight Carl Anthony towns with a double double I thought both guys really just did an excellent job especially with the the switching of the magic and just handling their one-on-one matchups handling their handles and winning those matchups my number one key for this game was going to be the Nick shooting efficiency against a stout magic defense flying colors 50% from the field over 40% from three and he had Knicks and double figures great night for the Knicks offense man absolutely great night and look man you could play the Pelicans highlights you could play the magic highlights it doesn’t matter both were in ass kicking so it doesn’t really matter which one you’re playing it’s the same thing either way the one the one thing I will say about this one though you know great win when they played against the Denver Nuggets on their West Coast trip this to me is by far the better win in all honesty and I know that magic don’t necessarily have the prolific offense they’re missing Paulo but the way that the Knicks won tonight and high stakes game right yeah if the Knicks lost this they’re out of it magic they could lose they’re still going to be they’re still in it they’re still in the uh in the emeres NBA cup yeah they F they fought their way into it right F their way into it they fought their way into it you know Celtics nation was probably looking on the outside and saying oh get to 37 so that way we can get it you know yeah too bad for you guys but anyway good win for the Knicks I like this just because CP we got to see the offensive like Powerhouse this team can be and then defensively this is the defense that we we’ve been waiting for they turned it up a notch now I know this magic team is not the great the greatest shooting team out there they’re in the basement when it comes to knocking down threes but the way that the defense showed up and showed out tonight you got to love the progression that this team is showing right now and that’s by far the biggest takeaway for me and why I like this game the most out of all the games yeah you talk about all the guys just getting to double figures in the starting rotation uh love all that and you know what I called Josh Hart getting a triple double if you all tapped into game of the week preview and how we broke how we broke it down I did say Josh was my exactor and I did think he get the triple double tonight so that he did just an excellent win overall man really comes back down to a solid two-way performance by this Knicks team yeah no question and and just like you said it wasn’t just the Knicks shooting well tonight and the magic not no the Knicks went out there and said the tone even though the magic jumped out to a 9-2 lead I thought this Nick’s defense was aggressive and it starts with the head of the snake right now France Vagner is one of the hottest players in the NBA and certainly the leading man for the Orlando Magic while Pao bonero rehabs the Tor oblique and I I think look I might be crazy here bro but I think the stat sheet is a little bit misleading tonight in that yes you’ll see that fron scored 30 points six dimes 10 to 22 from the field but I thought that when this game was really Within Reach and with within real time I thought ogan and Obi did a phenomenal job on him they sick the dog on him individual defense OG was Stout the help defense turned up between Carl Anthony towns Josh Hart helping off of his man mcal Bridges as well I thought when the game was really within balance the Knicks did a great job on fron tonight they did and look as you said you can look at the numbers he still got his but the other thing I want to point out is that even though frons like they went out to that early start they were able to contain fron the best that they did what they really did was make sure nobody else was going to beat them they were like all right if France’s going to go get his because he’s taking that next step fine let him go get his because he he’s taking the next step they stopped everybody else though Jaylen Suggs non-factor Mo Vagner non-factor uh you Wendell Carter Jr non-factor cavius calwell pel non-factor every very few guys really made an impact in this game uh from the magic side and if any at all and it was really just frond right yeah I mean sure you could say defensively they had somewhat of an impact to start off the game but even that wore off quickly just by how the Knicks were able to dismantle it and the thing is you know when you watch this team unfold and just the versatility they have offensively you know whether it was getting Josh Hart to just attack the paint and get easy layups right reverse layups what whatever it may be Carl Anthony towns I really like how cat played tonight honestly this D like he is really making me eat my words I’m not going to lie because I didn’t expect all this he is playing so physical in the paint and the one I mean there’s two plays If he if he got that pass to maau bridges in the right hand corner with that pass the roof would have blown off MSG but the other one beautiful the other one was when Mo Vagner right stopping him from attacking from the left side Baseline and you thought it was about to be the Boogie cousins meme all over again and you just see him he goes not like you know what F this I’m going to do the turnaround knocks it down looks at the ref looks at Mo like you ain’t stopping me where’s my call and gets back to the other side that this game Carl Anthony towns man he has just been playing out of his mind and the physicality that he’s bringing into the paint offensively it’s refreshing because we haven’t seen from the five in such a long time a guy like this so Carl Anthony towns and just absolute monster time man monster performance and and I’m I’m showing the Highlight right that highlight that you talking about right now he looked at Mo vag then like bro stop playing with me right now all right here here’s his turnaround take that out the basket Splash it in his eye I mean that was vintage Carl Anthony towns right there and and give credit man I loved how towns play with a Mean Streak tonight because the magic have that identity of being a physical team they’re a tough team I thought towns really met the challenge tonight and then from a scoring standpoint they had no idea what to do with him because he was able to be versatile both scoring from the outside and on the inside and whether it was wend Carter to start the game Mo Vagner uh I don’t believe baz played tonight right they baz didn’t play tonight did he no he didn’t and and look I for my key match up of the game because I thought he was going to play that’s why I thought Bridges wouldn’t was going to be on Vagner but because they had to put Wendell Carter and you had I think I forget who the other start I think was was Mo starting tonight am I going crazy mo no no mo came off the bench they went small they went with Tristan to Silva that’s what I thought yeah yeah so with Tristan in the starting rotation that gave tibs the defensive flexibility saying you know what we’re going to switch this then maau you can go get Jaylen Suggs OG you’re going to get the uh France Vagner assignment tonight and I thought that was a big that was a very big change and I thought that played to the Knick’s hands because now you get to play the bigger physical more versatile defender on Vagner and that really like because of that change changed the entire landscape of this game for the Knicks and so hey you got to take advantage of who’s out in front of you yeah you’re absolutely right I thought without betaz because in the previous game they had started with the two big lineup in the front Court did the Orlando Magic they started with with Carter and betaz at the four and the five I thought with the betaz injury it kind of played into the Knicks hands allowing them to do what they wanted to do offensively in terms of getting into the paint and operating from there but also could being able to control the glass so I I thought that kind of served them well and played into their hands like you said so they were able to capitalize with the magic be and a bit short-handed there uh so great night for Carl Anthony towns another double double 15 B boards continues to be a monster on the boards eight of 18 from the field plus 25 on the night great job by towns uh let’s get to Mr triple double man let’s put some respect on his name Josh Hart you called it 11 points 13 boards 10 assists three Steals and 4 six from the field your thoughts on Josh Hart tonight man I just felt like this was going to be a Josh Hart game man I mean you’re talking about a team in the Orlando Magic that plays a gritty Style honestly this is kind of like the early carbon copy of what the New York Knicks did right wasn’t a great three-point shooting team when the Knicks got Tom Tibido as their head coach but what they did was muddy It Up by playing topnotch defense and that’s what the magic did tonight and so with that the counter was going to be right how are you going to do this because they’re going to have Jaylen Suggs guarding uh Jaylen Brunson you know what they’re going to try to do they’re going to try to limit your pain touches so it’s going to trickle down to somebody else who’s going to have to be a gritty Do-it all type type of guy and that just fits Josh Hart’s name so you’re going to need somebody who’s going to facilitate if they’re going to be guarding Brunson we’ve seen Josh Hart do that the beginning the beginning of the Season he did that tonight you’re asking for a guy to go crash the boards because they’re going to try to stop towns from just queening the glass there you go guy crashing the board tonight and then you’re c talk about efficient scoring Josh Hart’s just been shooting the ball so well and figur out how to get to his spots mid-range jumpers threes reverse layups just regular Wes whatever it is attacking and transition Josh har can do all of that and I just felt like because you’re going to need that type of guy to like give you that edge right we got to think about the emotional part of this game too we saw the physicality the the kind of bad blood that we saw between Mo and Cat tonight right don’t think Josh Hart’s not coming into this game saying you know what this is gonna be gritty I gotta turn it up a notch I gotta get died in because if I’m falling asleep at the wheel we saw what happens when he didn’t take his assignment uh rash down in Atlanta seriously right next thing you know guys just going to be walking into threes tonight he’s he certainly knew and we all know why the other reason Josh Hart turned it up tonight CP you know why he wants that watch he wants that AP that watch he wants a number and Jaylen Brunson the reigning Eastern Conference play of the week we talked about brunton’s ability to playmake look at Josh Hart career high right now in assists and there’s another incredible stat that we’re going to get to later on in the show that really shows Josh Hart’s impact on this team which I I found to be really remarkable that that we’re going to get to but I thought he set the tone for a good stat for the Knicks tonight the Magic in coming into this game uh was number two in the league and opponents points in the paint at 42 Nicks had uh 48 48 tonight so they were able to uh get what they wanted there and I thought Josh Hart led the way four or six from the field all four makes at the basket had a couple of Van ones in this one as well so just a good job but he still made an impact tonight man this is where you see okay back in Rhythm knocking down shots knocked one down early continue to do that in the third quarter and and you didn’t really need much from him tonight you know got the 18 points very efficient 7 to 10 from the field got you two boards two assists but when I watch Og man it’s just the Simplicity of the game for him man I I mean he’s just understanding what moves to make what the defense is trying to give him and so the fact that he’s reading at this level is truly a next step in his development but I will say the one thing that I really did enjoy was that up and under that he had I mean good God you saw how he Isaac with the footwork y the footwork on that one was just insane I I have not seen that from OG at all this season I don’t even think I’ve seen that from him in his career even in Toronto there is some development going on with Og man that that was the best thing I saw tonight for me yeah hey against an aggressive defense it’s just like in football right what do they say you got to do it against an aggressive defense you got to run a lot of counters a lot of misdirection well in basketball is your footwork you know when you know these guys are barreling down on you you you you got to make a move and so that was a great move by uh by ogan and noi and overall leading to the Knicks 50% shooting from the field efficient night for the Knicks against this magic team I thought that was the big key tonight they were just making their shots um and and sometimes magic were trying to make him earn it so just a great job by this Nick’s offense and speaking of which the six Nick in double figures tonight welcome back Duce McBride The Duce was loose once again 18 points five of 11 from the field five of seven from d downtown four assists and a steal this is what we’re going to need man between Duce and campaign who contributed with seven we need that bench production those two guys are going to be relied upon you talked about it with Philip on the game of the week preview bench matchup I thought the Knicks did their job tonight they did McBride Payne giving you that spark that they needed and honestly when they checked did man I felt like the nastiness of the Knicks team just dialed up a bit I mean campaign just fighting you saw what Anthony black tried to do to him after he got tried to get the steal blackon decides to throw his body to prevent him from getting you know an easy layup but the grittiness the nastiness of this team the you know timely shot making of this team whether it be McBride campaign shooting or just getting circus shots from pain in the lane right that’s the stuff that you want to see from this team moving forward especially for a bench unit because we know that the starting five is going to be that offensive juggernaut we just know we saw it tonight we see it on most on most nights but this the question has been what will the bench be able to give us as the season progresses you’re now starting to see guys get healthy when it comes to McBride pain and you’re seeing what they’re able to offer but the other side outside of just being you know offensively you know I guess into it and making sure that they can hold their weight while the starters getting the rest whether it be paying for Brunson McBride coming in for whoever whether it be OG Bridges doesn’t matter yes offensively you want to see that but the defensive side man I mean that’s the thing because the question has always been for this team will the defense be there and I thought with those two guys the way that they were guarding tonight like that that’s that’s what you need out of those guys man we know McBride’s going to do it but pay’s going to be offering that as well then the back Court’s going to be pretty set and then it just once again reinforces what’s it going to look like when precious gets back and once Mitch gets back yeah you know that’s true this is going to be that it’s going to be fun man it’s going to be fun it’s going to be a lot of fun the way it’s starting to to shake out right now absolutely and and you know uh Mitch who who was a who was being very important for a team especially when you’re up by a lot to really put your foot on the neck and stay on it absolutely and that was something I had in my notes for this game was you look at how Brunson because Brunson I think only had nine points going into the into the half yeah and then he wasn’t really shooting that great and you saw that it could have been another night where you know the athleticism the wings span of the magic defense could have gotten to him as we saw how that’s been impacting him earlier this season Brunson then figured it out and I think what Brunson did was really just start to play the change of Speed game in this one I like I could say that I haven’t really seen him really use that technique enough be like the beginning of the season but yeah really working sugs and saying all right I’m going to go fast I’m going to go slow go this way that way and just using a lot of misdirection and just getting Suggs out of rhythm in order to get to his spots and I think for when you watch Brunson do that that’s like sometimes as an like when you watch athletes right or even if you played a game yourself like you can just be caught in doing the same thing over and over the same Rhythm and not really understand how to change the pace and the Cadence of what you’re doing think that quick for Brunson tonight and knowing and going into this like into the second half saying you know what I got to do something different this time around yeah there there like everything that I’m trying to do to get to my spots just trying to just you know go 110 miles an hour to get there it’s not working for me didn’t work against the Rockets didn’t work against all these other matchups let’s switch it up a bit against a top notch defense and it worked to his Advantage man and hopefully the thing is that once you figure that out typically it stays with you but you got to constantly remember it right it’s a muscle memory so hopefully moving forward flourishing without power sure you can question the quality of some of their wins but their identities Remains the Same anytime you play a tough defense GNA have to work they try to make the Knicks work Knicks were ready simple how would you rank this Nicks win CPI because this is a top defense that we went against you know and do you weigh this win like how would you weigh it because I know that some are going to look at this saying well you know the Magic’s offense it’s like it’s it’s fron and you know you hope somebody else shows up and that’s really it so and they’re not a good three-point shooting team so they have to really hone in on their defense yeah like how do you weigh this win knowing that that’s what the magic are well I mean number one not playing with your food as the Knicks have done over the past couple of weeks you know making close games out of games that should really be bum nights just based on the caliber of team but again against a tough defense I thought the Knicks Rose to the challenge now as the game as they start to stretch the lead I was more and more confident that they were going to win this because with the Magic’s inability to score you know it was going to come up something had to give magic just can’t score so as the Knicks had no issues with their defense then I was pretty confident that that they were going to um you know take the game but you know just like anything else this is game number what now 20 21 this is game 21 or 22 whatever it is just keep getting better you know was good to see maau Bridges staying better defense is improving guys are leaving the game without injury bench is improving just keep getting better every day man this was a good test good good test for them tonight does this give you does this win give you confidence that the Knicks can continue this have this high octane offense against other top defenses in the league they they can get their offense against anybody right on On Any Given night if it’s their night it’s their night it’s still going to come down to them getting stops still got to get stops and this wasn’t the test to really see where their three-point defense is where their perimeter defense is this wasn’t really the test for that you know what I mean yeah and that’s kind of like that’s kind of why I wa like the Knicks defense was solid tonight I liked it because I I like the intensity that they played with but it was played into their favorite because there’s not a lot of great three-point Shooters so it’s kind of like what we saw when we see the Knicks play against the Miami Heat two years ago and they’re like they’re sagging off at Josh Hart you could do that for damn near the entire magic starting five so that that kind of gives me you know we say like all right they’re playing well but like I need to see a real test but I will say that I do like the defensive intensity stepping up and that kind of gives me a little bit more confidence but really his decision making has improved dramatically from all the criticism that he’s gotten out in Minnesota I mean this is a guy that would be you know he still gets his foul troubles there’s still things that you could say but it’s not stupid foul troubles like just oh why you fouling now right like why would you do that now that’s a lot of stuff that You’ see out in Minnesota or just like decision making like stuff that even like Randall would do why are you backing somebody down from the three-point line when you don’t really need to be doing that why AR you just getting to your what you wanted to see in this game for what has been a Nick week point right because when they when you play an athletic and young team they’re able to get into the Knicks air base they limit how many threes they can take and that forces the Knicks to play a lot more of an inside game but they’re this is a team that can knock down threes and in today’s NBA you have to be able to knock down at a high efficient rate and if they’re not doing that we saw what happened against Boston we’ve seen get what happened against the Rockets it’s just a tough time for the Knicks if they’re not able to do that so to see that against the top defense they were able to get to their spots love to see it another point that I brought up was points of the paint in yesterday’s preview you talked about it they didn’t win but it was very efficient and look when you’re shooting 50 essentially 51% from the field and you’re shooting that great from downtown you’re not going to need to score that much in the p more responsibility he’s given a little bit more of a green white I mean not just the reverse Lions but just also the step back jumpers I mean against the Pelicans how many step back mid-range jumpers was he taking I’m like word this is what like yeah those were sometimes desperation moves that he was doing last year where the shot clock was winding down he still does that today but now like earlier in the shot clock if he’s getting enough space he’ll take that step back jumper and knock it down I’m like okay you’ve been working on that yeah that’s that’s solid stuff man but scoring inside the paint that’s tough and physical you got to give kudos to Josh har because look some guys they shy away from going inside and scoring Josh Hart’s not afraid of who who’s ever protecting the rim that’s what this also tells me exactly and so you know this is why I I gave him the nickname of Mr everything because he literally does that for this team but you can’t discount anything that he does for this team he’s averaging a career high in dimes is he at six yet he was at 5.9 for a little while his rebounding ability and his ability to get to the rim because this Knicks team as a team number one based on how their offense is structured and based on their personnel they don’t go to the rim a lot so when you have a guy like that that can get you some efficiency there along with towns and along with Brunson and when they want to cut and be able to do so I think it’s vital especially for a team maybe you might struggle from three on a given night you want to want high efficiency points tibs wants layups and dunks free throws and threes and I think Hart kind of contributes to that in in this modern five out system man you’re seeing where how he’s excelling with these guys do you think part of it too with this five out system that he’s able to attack the paint more freely or do you think he was just un it’s still that he has like this unwavered personality like I’m just for this team that’s 11 now on the season what is your favorite thing about this offense I I mean you it’s it’s a lot of different pieces um anything can happen and then honestly we just we’re playing off each other we’re trying to find the right play at the right time and um I mean we’re jelling we’re trying to get that chemistry right and um we’re getting there now I know you’re a big part of this team in this fifth offense but when you went to the bench the team actually was plus 12 in that second quarter because of what Duce McBride and Cameron Payne was able to do on the court while you you were resting on the bench how much how much is how big is that for this team this year compared to obviously when there was so much on your shoulders last season I mean honestly I I love my teammates and the things that they do day in and day out regardless I got their back they got my back I mean we’re all one and that’s all I care about whe whether it’s a plus or minus tonight and uh we’re going to go out there and fight every single time all right thanks very much Jaylen Mike again five in a row here at Madison Square Garden and one more on this court for the Knicks all right absolutely great sign and I think when you start to look at this bench unit starting to play well you know if you’re Tom Tibido you have to be gting more confidence that you can now give your guys more rest and that’s what you want him to do especially when you get later on to the season I mean it’s an 82 Game season you know guys are going to miss games due to injuries at some point hopefully it’s not too serious but W you want to be able to like manage everything that’s within your control right and so tibs being able to see McBride and pain perform at this level should give him reassurance that your captain gets to rest a little bit more and that’s what he did tonight that second quarter you know Brun got to get a good breather yeah because how they performed and that’s stuff that you know for the minutes police out there you should be thrilled about because now you get to say moving forward Tiz will now give them a little bit more leway even if they’re shooting poorly right unless this game’s like truly a close one or like the opposing team just goes on a crazy run you know tips can now let leave Payne and McBride out there for an extended time just if they’re just holding their own right yeah the game could be back to being tied any team could go on a run but that’s at least what you want so that way your starters are not coming in gassed they got to now like work 10 times harder while the opposing team’s a little bit more rested you know so for tibs he should be happy man because now he can give a little bit more trust to guys like pay and MC Brighton look man I gotta wonder if pay has been hearing all the chatter about uh kic and all the love that he got because he’s turned it up a notch Okay C pay could be a guy that we all know give you some heads scratching plays he’s actually played some really good basketball I have not there hasn’t really been a heads scratching play from him I think that his shot selections on point his aspect of it right so the next point is let’s see the consistency next the next quarter third quarter is like all right now we’re starting to rev up let’s let’s start to actually add on let’s start take on some tougher competition you know based on how the schedule’s going let’s make some of these games like Celtics you know you’re going to see them in February let’s make these games meaningful let’s really get Battle tested and get ready for the postseason and then fourth quarter you should be cruising you should be ready to go for the postseason starting to do a little bit more a little bit of tweaking here and there and get ready for the that postseason run but right now man it’s all about consistency I just want to see this team rattle off a lot of wins just because what the
