I’m Holden Douglas here at crypto.com Arena where the Kings defeated the wild 4 to1 after missing nearly a month of action Darcy keer returned in a huge Splash saving 23 shots and helping the king’s defense smother the wild to go along with the Kings defense Alex lafier made a huge power play goal to give the Kings a two-goal lead we got to speak with both players in the locker room we just talked so you can start you guys sorry guys the beginning of the week about kind of the test you guys had this week Dallas Minnesota you kind of come through with two wins how impressive was this week for you guys uh yeah we we like the challenge of playing against uh top teams it uh you know you know you have to be at your best you need everybody so you know those are fun as a group and uh good measuring sticks um you know we we consider ourselves a top team so uh you know uh when we play against those teams we feel like we got a lot of prove lot to prove and uh I think uh you know we did a great job with it you had you had a big stop there right away uh I think 30 seconds in whatsoever what did that do did that get you right into the game and and just how did you feel overall just getting back in and I think first game back it’s definitely nice to uh feel a couple early um um I probably would have rather just a r off on the point or something but I’ll take it uh when it’s a save and uh yeah just uh uh been feeling really good in practice so it’s nice to go out and um uh play a real game that’s one of the best that’s one of the best offenses you know high scoring complets incredible what did you see in terms of the defense in front of you limiting their opportunities yeah they they uh definitely have dangerous players uh you know if you try to defend them one-on-one it’s uh it’s pretty hard on guys so I think we did a a great job of working together um having layers and uh support on on top players like him uh we’ve been doing a good job of it all year uh there’s a lot of good players in this league and obviously he’s uh at the very tippy top so uh we were sharp against him and uh uh you know as a goalie it’s nice to see that I’m sure you’ve had to watch more than you’ve wanted to obviously but in watching the team you know during especially during this stretch here what do you see in terms of their ability to limit shots what what is it that even you’re seeing from above in terms of how you guys are able to cut the yeah I think it’s uh you know it starts with having depth um you need all four lines you can’t have uh you know a couple guys that are are getting momentum and then everyone else is hanging on and uh we feel like we have as good of depth as anybody and uh on top of that it’s just a commitment to playing the game the right way we uh we try to stay over top of uh over top of teams uh take away their uh their neutral zone rushes and and uh you know create our own Chances with our uh our checking and defending and um when you have everyone on board uh you know that’s how you go on uh stretches like we’re on right now know that goalie Guild is kind of a unique fraternity obviously MRE flurry probably his last visit here of his career just your thoughts on on playing play against him in so many different stops for both of you over your careers uh yeah I mean he was a guy I looked up to before uh you know when I was just a little guy uh watching him play I I’m sure every uh young goalie wanted to be Mark Andre flurry so uh you know there’s uh not many guys left in the league that uh I uh grew up watching so uh it’s it’s really special for me to to get to go out and play against a guy like him and uh you know he was uh tremendous tonight he played great himself so uh you know just try to cherish these moments while out the go team was really goodly Dave rck does that in a way make it easy for coming back because maybe it alleviates some of the pressure there’s not everyone looking to you to come in and play well you know you have kind of a safety valve back there yeah I mean Dave Dave played incredible uh you know it’s always hard uh sitting on the sideline and watching and um but he held the forward he did an incredible job and um you know I was just working hard to get back as uh strong and as soon as I could tonight was Andre Cooper’s 1400th NHL game all with the Kings what can you say about the example he continues to set here every single day I mean yeah his uh to play that many games and and still be playing at the level he is he’s our our leader out there and in here on and off the ice uh just plays the game the right way uh his whole career um you know you think of him as such a defensive player and then you look at how many points he has in his career uh it’s pretty incredible uh you know they there’s not many guys that uh that can achieve the things that he has and uh you know just a lot of fun to to play with a leader like that that top pair of Mikey and gabov has been so so good for this team what do they do that makes it maybe easy for you as a goalie uh you know they do such a good job in front of the net uh when they’re out there uh you know you feel like you’re seeing every shot and uh they’re very predictable out there uh I think part of that’s just they got chemistry together so they they know where each other’s going to be and then they just uh seem to always be in the right spot and uh having great sticks so uh uh you know I always enjoy when they’re out there thank you thank you feel like last time we talked you were about to approach your career high now you tied your career high in goals just what’s been working so well for you and especially getting one on the power play tonight as well yeah I mean it’s going in right now which is the most important thing but yeah I think I mean I love to shoot the puck you can’t score goals without shooting the puck so um I think that’s one thing that I I try to focus a lot on is getting pucks to the net and um yeah like I said right now they’re going in so that’s good and what worked well on that play cuz it looked like you were going for the one timer first go around and then when it came back and you found it again what was kind of the sequence of events that happened before that yeah I mean to set the whole thing up I mean Phil made an unbelievable screen there uh we talked kind of right before the face off on where he wanted where he thought that I wanted to shoot and I told him Far Side so um yeah he he was credit to him he stood in front of the shot there but yeah he he made an unbelievable screen and I don’t even think the goalie saw it so um yeah I mean all credit to him but yeah I think Benny probably would have liked me to hit the onetime in but um I think he’ll take me just scoring the shot in that new role on this unit where you’re a little bit higher is that shooting mentality even more important you’re going to be maybe reled upon for more of those shots from distance yeah definitely I think so I think um kind of when we get out there we don’t necessarily have a lot of time so I think as as many pucks we can get to the net as possible is going to give us a better chance to score and I think that’s kind of our role is to just be a shooting shooting power playing and have
