OKC number one defensive team not a great rebounding team they come in and they you know get offensive rebounds Second Chance points and then timely turnovers when you get a stop and you’re in a position to you know uh decrease the lead or tie or take the lead and you turn it over and they capitalize on it it just demoralizes your your team and I think the Lakers need to learn how to settle down understand the possessions that they have and not you know screw them up I thought they were right there with two points three points and then a turnover or bad shot poor possession um they just kind of just kind of beat themselves the game was right there for the for the picking but they just couldn’t capitalize couldn’t execute and here we go we got the final result not good it’s one of those difficult games to watch because you watch the Lakers like okay OKC is not at full strength and it’s almost like the Lakers is okay we going to win this game because we beat him 3-1 last year we at home it’s Cup game we used to win Cup games it’s almost like the intensity wasn’t there but it was there this was a a very crazy game for me to watch because you saw AR go out you saw DLo who played well you saw connect who played well everybody was playing well but it they were just missing something and then you sit back and you say 21 turnovers because cuz that always lets the arrow the balloon because you got the momentum you got everything going well for you then you have a silly pass unforced turnovers will give you gr hair as a coach unforced turnovers will make you mad at your team as a player because it’s like you’re trying to do too much you know the first thing that I was taught in this league was sometimes it’s best to just keep it simple a nice chess pass right there to the guy not trying to throw it across know hockey assist and sometimes I think these guys are now trying to get stats and like okay I need to do this I need to do that just keep it simple and let someone else make the play because these silly turnovers that they’re doing right now is costing him big time and that’s I I kind of want to go there next because again when you’re facing the top teams in the league you have to be sharp and coming in we heard JJ tell Mike trell the other night in San Antonio at half the late quarter execution is critical right now and it’s something that the Lakers need to be better at and I say that because Mike trell gave a stat going into the fourth quarter they’ve been outscored late quarter execution which is the final minute of each quarter 14 to1 going into the fourth and you look down the stretch there was almost a turn over there by Lebron Max christe was able to save it gets the little jumper makes it a two-point game but then you come back down you think you have a foul to give when it’s 9593 and you put SGA at the free throw line those are mistakes that usually you see with a young team which is the thunder across the way so right now seeing those those are certainly things that need to be cleaned up for the Lakers if you want to get to that next level no I only need to be cleaned up there’s no excuse for it there’s no excuse for not knowing the foul situation and also marginal passes you know you you can’t thread the needle unless there’s a hole there you know they were trying to thread the needle today and there was there was no no no needle no hole in the in the needle and it’s just you can’t throw it through defenses particularly when you you know you need that possession you know and that’s why I was a little bit surprised you know LeBron trying to you know be aggressive turn it over a couple times when they need and they capitalized on it and um I don’t know I just I I didn’t see much I saw some ad down the stretch he was able to make some passes out for some shots but I just think they went away from the last few games they they’ve kind of gone away from that flowing offense that unpredictable where you know anybody could get a easy shot ruy popped in there a couple times in the paint for a couple of you know quick hitters but other than that it kind of went back to like easy to defend and when you got a team that’s the number one defensive team it’s it’s it’s sticky and you’re not going to get anything easily for me I I I think about how well this team started out and they’re not playing like they did at the beginning of the year and what I mean by that is they’re not making ad the focal point ad only had 10 shots tonight you know and sometimes as a guard yeah you want to get yours but you’re not the key to this game you know if you look at like like all the last games even though connect has been the leading scor in the last couple of games AR’s came out and been like an aggressive one I don’t care you cannot be aggressive and get yours make ad get his first it’s going to make it easier for you because once you do not go to ad you get in that Rhythm like oh we’re winning we in this game we don’t need him no you need him each and every time down the game because think about it the games they’ve lost lately ad is not gone past 20 points like had what he had 15 tonight and and I’m glad you went there Rob because we talked about this in the pregame over his last three obviously to start the season we know exactly what we be getting from Anthony Davis we obviously understood as well offensively he has been the Hub the focal point he’s been playing MVP basketball over the last three he’s averaging 19 a game we talked about it coming in the Lakers were one and two in said scenarios but that one win was against the number 10 team in the Western Conference in San Antonio when you’re facing a team like the Oklahoma City Thunder the top of the West one of the best teams in the NBA I don’t think that’s the kind of production you can afford to have from Anthony Davis 15 points five of nine just one shot again big game in the fourth and and you know uh ad has proven that he’s not the type of player that if he’s not touching it that he’s going to go over and say give me the damn ball he hasn’t proven to be that guy so he’ll fade if if if you say you’re running the offense through him somebody like Rob said the point guard or doing a timeout he’s key he’s key and so uh I just think they need to take a a really good timeout and look at you know the first couple of weeks of the season and how they were playing and what they were doing the old Lakers are like last year two years ago not a winning formula you mentioned Dalton he’s averaging 20 when he’s in the starting lineup he hit 20 tonight 17 attempts but again top five in the NBA in scoring is Anthony Davis nine shot attempts yeah for me you know winning can make you feel good can make you complacent and you think oh we winning I can venture out from the game plan and the game plan is not working when guys venture out from the game plan you have to go through ad I don’t care you know if ad gets five shots 10 shots but and you get 30 but you’re going through him he’s going to get the assist because you look at ad lately he’s he hasn’t been going through the free throw line you know think if he was in adver like that’s how Shay G us get all his points you know he don’t go but he T 28 Shots tonight but he gets most of his points from the free throw line because he’s aggressive he’s putting the defense on the heels and he’s going at them and AD you got hartenstein don’t get me wrong hardenstein is a great player but he can’t stop you ad and the team has to recognize you have the advantage and we have to go to them I don’t care who else has Advantage I AR got it LeBron got it you two don’t count the most important player on this team is AD and you have to go through them if they going to if they want to go back to winning forer they they got to go back to the old ways don’t be complacent I think oh we can win some games without 80 no you cannot I know it sounds like we’re being negative and nitpicking but I think it’s because as you guys described at the top of the show it’s you were right there you gave yourselves you had an opportunity you played such a great game which just felt like a chess match all night long 101 to 93 uh and then to just see these little things be the separator but you got to tip your cap to the Oklahoma City Thunder of course led by Shay I think the one thing you like is that you made him work big game 36 on 28 shots you made him earn everything he got tonight we held them to I think 40% 41% shooting that’s not bad but in crunch time they went to their bread and butter and we did not we were scrambling we were turning the ball over uh and they were capitalizing on it and we just didn’t look like a veteran team you know we look like the young team that just discombobulated forgot what we were supposed to do and I think you know we got to get back to I mean Robin them went to Shaq we went to Kareem you know you know the Rockets went to AEM alijan you knew where it was going and that’s where everything you know has to get back to and I just didn’t think the flow of the offense either Not only was ad not uh getting what he should be getting the rest of the movement was not what we’ve been seeing so and and now and now you about to go out on the road and you know one of the things about the road it hadn’t been your friend mhm so you’re going to use tomorrow you know as a meeting say look you going go over tape they should spend an hour and a half going over film and point out the little mistakes you know AR you got to snap your pad to Dalton you see when he’s in distress you got to get open um LeBron stop jumping and leaving your feet when you shoot at ad you got to be more more aggressive you can go down the line with each person because no every person has made few mistakes that that can be corrected that’s the whole thing everything they have done can be corrected so I’m not when this this m oh we going down that path again these little moments can be corrected and they can go on a winning streak because if you look at the West the West is still stacked everybody’s beating up on each other so they just need to have a meeting of their minds and get on the same page Lakers Fallout 11 and eight on the season as you mentioned hasn’t been friendly away from home they had a on a four game trip after this one starting on Sunday where they are four and five by the way cut play has come to an end in terms of group stages for the Lakers they end two and two they’re not completely officially eliminated but it’s certainly become a little bit tougher we will uh stay tuned for that coming next week because the Thunders still have another group play to have had JJ reik is speaking with Mike trell on the media JJ you had mentioned uh in in San Antonio about the kind of the end of quarter um execution I think it in the first three quarters it was 14-1 in the final 3 minutes are you seeing anything these last couple of games or is it just just uh about the late quarter execution that’s been consistent and not working as well yeah I mean I think you’re just in a tough spot sometimes in terms of just reviewing stuff going over stuff um showing stuff pregame they’re going to trap at the end of quarter get the ball back we want the last shot yeah I mean I I yeah sometimes you’re in a tough spot and you just got to keep keep doing it and we’ll we’ll get it we’ll learn from it got it is there a larger takeaway from this specific game where you know obviously you’re in it come back and in it late in the yeah you know I think the biggest takeaway is uh we we have a lot to build on defensively over the last two games that was as connected as our group has been on that end of the floor since the first game of the season um just you know really really outstanding job with a lot of the stuff we talked about um um don’t know the exact total but there were you know half dozen to a dozen plays that just shot Us in the foot um even before the late game stuff um you know we played well enough and hard enough to win against uh the best team in the west so there’s definitely good stuff J did did Max think there was a foul to give in I’m not sure I’m not sure um he looked looked at me and I gave him the coverage call and I I I guess he interpreted that as foul but it I mean obviously I was yelling the coverage call the um what did what kind of information did you get on Austin at halftime um what was your Vantage Point on that play and then kind of how did you think he moved out there after a pretty hard fall vantage point on the play was you know an Airborne player and he made a play on the ball and he you know that that’s why I stopped dunking very early in my life um clear that you know he couldn’t he couldn’t go in the first half um he’s tough as nails and I I thought you know he moved fine it wasn’t really in the flow of the game because of that and not getting to start the second half so um but I thought I thought you know he’ll be in some pain tomorrow and we’ll just have to kind of assess going forward JJ on on the the defensive side it it felt like ad but was just everywhere four blocks switching onto Shay switching onto their their perimeter guys uh what did you see from him in terms of his engagement activity felt like even more so than than the average game yeah um guarded a lot of uh isolations thought he was fantastic in isolation um you’re you’re inevitably especially against a team with two superstars and guys that redrive close outs and redrive shifts you’re inev inevitably going to get beat and I thought his um awareness and just intent to be that sort of backline anchor that we’ve talked about was great tonight um you know there there really good defensive team um you know there there were a lot of stuff that we we tried to run and you know we got to be better me coaches all that stuff and just finding him more scoring opportunities against this team in particular they they did a they did a really good job with him JJ KH at that point you mentioned that U you guys as coaches can set him up more he only finished I think with 10 field goal attempts I think maybe seasonal outside of I think that one game that he had to leave early what specifically were you seeing from the Thunder that kind of uh led to that um clearly a lot of attention to detail on the game plan around him to be honest with you um just in terms of a lot of the similar actions we run not NE you know we have a bunch of different ways to get him the ball they’re not necessarily One play and they they had prepared well uh and then you know when he was able to get the the ball in his normal spots just the amount of bodies but again the second straight game that a team has done that and he’s been a willing passer uh again seven assists um you know he didn’t score the ball like he normally scores the ball but he had an outstanding game I’ve asked you about the your team’s physicality a couple times um it looked like in the first quarter the Thunder were the team that was more physical was kind of dictating the game but um you guys kind of showed up and and answered it and it um are you encouraged similarly to and it’s related to defense but encouraged with how your team was able to kind of find that part of um maybe their DNA yeah again I there’s things you can build on uh another game where we get off to a slow start and we’re able to to get back into it and get back into it fairly fairly quickly um you know I thought our group and and by that I mean the players as well we were prepared prepared for their physicality we were prepared for Dort and case Wallace and hartenstein like we were prepared for those guys um the group was and I thought you know they did a good job of combating that for the most part thanks coach yeah hey Max in that in that final minute it looked like you were looking in JJ’s Direction he said he wasn’t quite sure but did you did you think he said foul or did you kind of misinterpret the bonus yeah it was a misinterpretation on on my part but regardless I think I should have I knew the time and score of the game but I didn’t I didn’t realize they’re in the bonus and I should have known because they were in the bonus for the last three or four minutes so yeah that’s a mental error on my part I take responsibility for that I know you’re hard on yourself is that one kind of Sting for you and how how do you mentally get past that yeah no it definitely hurts that that was a game that that’s the best team in the west record-wise so we were right with them and I think we definitely had a really good opportunity to win the game and um you know I’m not going to say that my mistake cost us the entire game but it was definitely probably the biggest one of of the game so you know it is what it is I got to learn from it so max where are you where do you feel like you guys are at overall now coming off of that trip you you hang with OKC have a chance to win the game where where do you feel like you guys have to keep buttoning down and and kind of move forward from this I mean to be honest I think we’re not in I think we’re in a solid spot you know I think tonight was a good game for us and up okay is the best team in the west record wise they’re super physical and I think we honestly did a good job defensively making them work for every every basket they scored um so I think we’re we’re in a good spot to be honest I think we just got to you know continue to stay with each other and and you know grow upon this loss I got to learn from it so you know I think we’re I don’t think we’re worrying right now Max this is in addition to the San Antonio game the second consecutive game where it seems like opponents are really Keen in on showing bodies towards ad whereas in posts isos what have you how do you think the team has responded I guess to those defensive strategies um I mean I think we’re we’re doing a good job of honestly they’re all ad80 and Bron are great passers um I think we’re doing a good job of when we get those opportunities you know ruy does it a lot he kind of just cuts right to the middle of the lane gets that little jumper Dalton’s been shooting it well on the backside um so I think honestly we’re doing a we’re doing a decent job obviously ad and Brun are really really good players they going to attract a lot of attention um so that’s on us you know as everybody else to cut to you know find the open space um and knock down those shots Max I think Mike had a stat um when you talking to JJ that um OKC was like 13 to1 um at the end of the first second and third quarters um as quarters wear on is that is that a test as much as anything on like mental kind of consistency and toughness and mean 13 as in like 13 points to one oh I see that you add the last three minutes of the first three quarters okay okay okay the 13 and one yeah is that just kind of like you know I I is there maybe a natural kind of like let your guard up a little bit in those moments after yeah and how do you guys kind of correct it um no honestly I think that’s that’s moments of height and awareness for us and we need to do a better job as a team you know I think I get caught in a few situations like that I think at the end of the the third quarter I think it was Aaron Wiggins had the tough little floater in the paint you know I have the the blunder at the end of the game so um yeah I think that’s just I don’t know mental I guess you just got to be more locked in you got to be you know better in those moments I’m I’m not quite sure to be honest Max in what areas have you seen the team grow defensively these last couple of games you know JJ and AD have talked about communication obviously you guys were switching a lot in the San Antonio game tonight as well so I guess what what have been some of the trends over these past couple performances communication one for sure like you said we were going to switching in the last two games and I think it’s worked for the most part I think um for the first the first three quarters at least were pretty pretty low-scoring quarters for both teams so I think defensively for us that’s a good sign um OKC I I I have the number one defensive league but they’re top 10 or 15 in offense too they got you know a lot of good players over there so I think defensively honestly we’ve taken steps in the right direction I think I’m not sure what our transition points were tonight that’s obviously an area of emphasis for us but I think our half court defense is really good I think we did a good job kind of Just sh and Shay and Jaylen Williams and all the iso guys bodies um so I think we’re in we’re taking steps in the right direction defensively Max um in terms of your own play it seems like in the past couple games you know San Antonio Phoenix Denver Orlando um while the outcome may not have been you know in some of those games what you guys would have wanted your shots kind of been there you know as opposed to maybe earlier in the season just kind of what what do you attribute that to is that kind of like you know something just kind of reading what the defense is giving you or is it something a little more schematic or um not I mean to be honest I’m just trying to stay aggressive and um I have full confidence in my shot I work you know hard enough every single day to have belief in that and um I wasn’t really really worri that I got off to a slow start and it’s going to come eventually and I think you know right now I’m in a pretty good Groove and a pretty good Rhythm so I’m going to try to continue that but for me it’s just confidence I think that’s what it is mentally um I think I’ve gotten really good in that area so I’m just going to try to continue that thanks box thanks guys let’s go back inside the Lakers locker room PR is speaking with Dolan Dolan that’s a really good defensive team obviously but do you feel like you guys left a few things out there that you could have capitalized better on offensively uh for sure I think uh you know it’ be good to watch film and uh you know see what we could have done better uh as a group I think we executed a lot of good stuff but also we needed to get some stuff better and clean that up some turnovers definitely got you guys 17 tonight yeah that’s probably our uh biggest thing was not taking care of the ball um I think early I think we turned the ball over too a lot or just started off slow I think that’s something we we got to fix and clean up for sure uh you know we didn’t do that against San Antonio but um we got to make sure that we don’t do that especially at home you guys have played eight pretty good defensive quarters in a row um is that something we encouraged about you know kind of the the way you guys have handled that task knowing that you guys are probably a better offensive team than 93 points yeah I think uh for sure you know we uh we’re trying to lock in on the defensive end and uh make sure that we stop our opponents but uh like I said uh we know we could all score we know we every when we put Five Guys on the court all five of them could go score uh isos or whatever but so that’s our biggest thing is just making sure that we focus on the defensive end you’ve talked about how you enjoyed the physical games of the SAT and stuff like that that was about as physical as a regular season game gets what did it kind of make of kind of the refs letting you guys go at it and in the fight out there um it was fun I think I think it was fun I think it was good uh I don’t know if it was as physical was Minnesota I think there was questionable stuff but at the end of the day basketball it’s fun at the end of the day no matter what you hit the uh shoulder shrug again late in the fourth is that no no that I don’t even know I I told uh Vendo cuz he said before I hit that he was like we got to come up with a s so you know I did the three symbol and then I just said I don’t know I was looking at him the whole entire I was just like I don’t know what to do I looked at him so he hit that too as well so I’ll come up with something where are you guys concerned for Austin after the fall yeah for sure uh you know he’s our brother so when he went down he went down hard uh you know all of us went over there to make sure he was good and you know he came back he’s tough so we’re uh we’re glad that he’s okay thanks told Mike jel great breakdown there the other night that he is a three-level scorer and he showed that in college he’s not just a shooter big game obviously you’d like to see these performances result in wins but he continues to show his value yeah he’s he’s an offensive genius he really is he can do a lot of things on the offensive vage you know he can finish strong at the cup so yeah he’s he’s only can get better with the with you know with some strength and some experience I totally agree I think the one thing when he goes to the offseason he need to work on his his his lower body his quickness and his ability to you know if you watch SGA how his ability to get you off of him to create space if he learns that cuz you know he’s so such a good shooter he can just rise above you but some times you create that space it makes it easier shot for you had a heck of a month especially shooting the three ball added six more tonight LeBron scored 12 points in the loss his fourth game in a row where he’s been held under 20 he’s with brez in the locker room Le Bron’s obviously a very good defensive team out there what did you see from the thunder tonight uh they got great hands uh very aggressive at the point of attack uh got some guys that can guard the ball uh they do a good job of um you know getting their hands on on loose rocks out there 50-50 balls they it’s a good team really good team yeah definitely forced a lot of turnovers took a lot of offensive rebounds too are those two areas where you’d say we needed toh improve tonight uh well I mean you know when you’re shad and helping a lot especially against Shay and Jay dub you know they they have a numbers game on offensive rebounding you know but we got to do a better job of trying to clean glass and do a much better job of not turn the ball over as much what can you guys do uh in a night like tonight to get ad more involved if the team is you know doing there so much to try to take him away you just said it I mean so is the the proper play that to go to others no not that I mean we you know every time we cut the ball in in the post they had one guy at the elbow that was doubling from the Baseline as well um you know we all got to do a better job of trying to keep him involved offensively because we know what it does for our offense um I think it’s just one of those games where I don’t think anybody was much in the Rhythm besides do how much of that was due to kind of just like it it was almost like a fight out there for a lot of it a Austin took a big fall um took a pretty big hit just the how did the physicality of the game from both sides kind of muck it up um it’s no big deal to me obviously um I don’t I like I like when the game is played that way I wish it was more regular season games allowed to play that way there’s a natural I think life ques like gr banf for teams for Oklahoma City this is your first chance to see them this year do you feel like they’ve taken a jump having gone through what they went through yeah um I think they’re taking a jump but they’re also missing a big piece too chat being out so um you AC being out as well so that they’ll make another jump um but a really good team well coach more the past couple games just how you feel about the execution with that defensive coverage game has his own challenges and game plan for each game depend on pel so we’ve defensively we’ve been really good last couple G you guys were here for 36 hours basically and then you go back out now for for four more um what how does a team find energy um how do you have to find energy you got to figure it out lean on each other if you don’t have it you don’t have the energy lean on the guy next to you so you know it’s going to be a tough road trip for us starting in Utah back to back Minnesota Miami and then Atlanta last game of the trip so um we got to be ready to go last question just a two game evaluation of Dalton in the lineup in the two spot this time kind of next to Austin what do you think the strengths are on offens defense and how’s it looking don’t faing anything we want to do so he’s going to continue to make his mistakes which is okay as a rookie obviously it’s first time him experiencing these things for the first time in his league and then offense he’s going to do what he needs to do he shoots the ball extremely well he can attack um um sneaky athletic but you know um you know he’s just have good to have him on the floor no matter what position he’s playing the peace for us I apprciate uh guys I want to talk a little Max Christie eight points Off the Bench we talked about this in the pregame obviously the expectations are there and rightfully so but we also noted that he’s still young there’s Still Moments where he’s going to go through what we saw tonight you love that he took accountability for kind of misinterpreting down the stretch JJ CL on a defensive assignment he thought it was to foul um you know he’s going to hold himself to being better yeah and you know moments like that can happen especially with a A young player who’s out there trying hard that wasn’t a reason that they lost a game it wasn’t even close but uh I love the fact that he understood the moment took accountability for it and uh well move on but there’s there’s not a young player because I’m going to call him a rookie because think about if he was coming out of college like when we did he probably be a Ricket right now and this happened to each and every I guarantee you like 90% of the league has had these uh oh moments but it makes you stronger it makes you better and it makes you more aware of your surroundings so I I I’m not even mad at that because it’s a growing process
