[Music] it was a second half Surge from the running game of the Baltimore Ravens that put this one Out Of Reach on a night to find Again by Derrick Henry’s 140 yards Justice Hill serving some as well 51 of his 55 coming in onef swoop and a big moment in this game making it a multi- possession lead for Baltimore one they would not give up 30 23e final Baltimore back in the wind column and we are back in studio Joe muso alongside emry hunt and Ryan Wilson it’s all the paces of that attrition football they like to play in the second half John still with the advantage over Jim in this battle of Harbaugh Emory what was the Hallmark of that second half as you saw it for the Baltimore Ravens dance with whom you brought to the party and it was their run game we saw this take effect late in that second quarter and they just start to realize like Derrick Henry is on a roll and then you start to see them work the other backs in the game too like justice Hill and he was able to even close out the ball game with that long touchdown run you just saw in the open so when you think about how they ran the football they leaned on that defensive front guys were coming back from injury khil Mack was coming back from injury Bosa was nursing something coming back from injury and they just ran downhill they turned those pass rushers into run Defenders they knew they had the size advantage to get on those backers which they did they climbed to the second level Baltimore ran their way to victory tonight so we had a conversation I like to do a lot of hypotheticals uh in the green room watching this game would you rather tackle Derrik Henry or saquon Barkley everyone said saquan Barkley I think that the Chargers agree they would have rather tried to sack saquon Barkley because Derrick Henry was a man on the mission two touchdown drives going into halftime for the Ravens field goal coming out two more touchdowns to wrap things up and the offense for the other side sputtered and the defense they just had no answers for the running game for the ball he’s just a force of attrition in the second half as we look at 74 of his rushing yards coming in that second half pretty balanced first to second but just having to tackle that man for 60 Minutes seems a task too tall for Manny Henry above 100 yards rushing again had sputtered in his production these last two games living somewhere in the 60s back to that normal production but not to take away from what is Lamar Jackson and what could be again an MVP now 7-2 on Monday nights 22 touchdowns to no interceptions on that day specific is there something to that Emory or are we looking at correlation or causation when you look at his production in this prime time slot it’s funny because we see Lamar get hyped for these games and a lot of times he’s almost too hype in the first part of the game we saw that manifest itself tonight he sort of sputtered out of the gate and then he settled down and was locked in and made some really good throws in the second quarter and then subsequently the second half so he’s playing up for the moment he knows a lot of people are watching like I said earlier half jokingly he he’s a little bit too online but because of that he understands he can’t have an all day when everyone is watching he gives them what they came for and it’s a big- Time Performance every time on Monday night the other thing is we talk about the concerns him facing the Steelers there weren’t three stupid turnovers in this game like they had last week against Pittsburgh there weren’t passes hitting receivers in the face and them dropping them Rashad baitman had the drop that you predicted came back and made a fantastic touchdown grab Mark Andrews was in bounds by about eight yards and he was called out of bounds but turns out that was a touchdown as well another great catch so his teammates helped him out and the Run game showed up so I think Lamar understands the situation but when you talk to to Ravens fans they will say this is great we need to see this in January we’re not there yet but this is certainly a step in the right direction after the Pittsburgh game last week we know what’s out in front of this team and they’re getting back into form priming themselves for some of those massive matchups down the stretch it’s an LA team that has come up short in those types of matchups even in the regular season now one in four against teams above 500 Ryan and giving up a season high in points allowed here always going to be a tall task to slow this offense but where’s your concern level about their ability to match up with some of the better teams in the league right now I mean there’s concern but I think the reality is their schedule up to this point was one where they weren’t playing any if we’re being honest right and they faced a true test here and you talked about giving they were averaging 14.5 points allowed per game coming into this game and I think this is exactly where they probably should be in the post Brandon Staley era and knowing that Jim Harbaugh can turn things around and turn things around pretty quickly uh this team is really good this is the best record they’ve had going back to 2018 this far into the season so I think this they’re on the right path they’re not one of the best teams in the AFC right now that doesn’t mean that won’t change probably not this year but going forward for the defense got exposed and that’s a concern and the offense spoted down the stretch and I think that’s more fixable than the defense right now but that that’s where they are they’re a good team but not a great team when you say not change this year but it could down the road does that infer maybe personnel-wise they’re not where they need to be I know this offensive attack Emory it has plays in it and big plays at that but when you look at the targets that Justin Herbert’s delivering the ball to right now and you look at the box score coming out of this one it looks very similar to what we’ve seen all season there’s a lot there but there’s no Derrik Henry there’s no Z flowers a guy to turn to when you need someone to turn to and that’s where I was going to go that’s the difference between Baltimore and Los Angeles right now is the consistency they don’t have that person that they can consistently go to in the Run game they lost JK Dobbins that was a huge loss for them because it looked like he was starting to get going the passing game who can you consistently trust to catch the football in the big spot and that’s where they don’t have that guy right now they got talent and it was good that they had that confidence building schedule because they got to rack up some wins believe in themselves get some positive things on tape but in a big game versus a tougher opponent those guys that you can’t consistently count on showed up and had those key drops to not extend the game or not extend the drive or to score points so until they find the consistency they won’t get into that upper Eon conversation of these teams that we talk about like Buffalo K City and Baltimore we’re going to get to a broader conversation as it pertains to the playoff picture in just a bit but moment momentarily here Ryan when you look at Baltimore and what they do bring to the table projecting them across the rest of their schedule and the playoffs you mentioned something earlier this fan base is looking forward to things beyond the regular season what are some of the Hallmarks some of the things that they can hang their hat on to feel good about something being different this time around secondary played better I thought I think Kyle Hamilton’s an absolute dog he he is incredibly fun player to watch uh he’s effective at all three levels of the defense they did this without ran Smith so they’ll get him back get good about that you beat a really a really good Young quarterback and Justin Herbert and made that team onedimensional it didn’t help that JK Dobbins got hurt as we spoke about but I think on the other side it has to be the balance and the consistency that you get from Lamar in the running game and you know we have this conversation with the bills as well they got to show up in January it’s great that you beat the breaks off of the Chiefs uh in November but that doesn’t matter once playoff football rolls around and that’s how Ravens fans feel about Lamar Jackson and this team they feel like they’re going in the right direction I think the defense we talk about this all the time you can struggle for the first two months of the season if you get red hot in January all bets are off we saw Joe Flo do that 10 years ago now he bet on himself they won a Super Bowl he got paid and the rest is history and I think that this team with Lamar Jackson the sky the limit but you can’t have the the issues we’ve talked about where you show up at a Steelers game and make those same mistakes and and I think that feels more oneoff than a trend to this point with this offense and Lamar you got to focus on the reality and not the perception I feel like Baltimore focuses on what the perception is about who they are and that’s when they go out there and have those games like they have against Pittsburgh but the reality is what they have to do in terms of hitting those layups that we saw catch the football don’t beat yourself with a lot of these Ticky tack penalties that we saw in the first quarter and once they start to eliminate all those and just play Ravens football the efficient football the talent starts to show itself they’re getting a lot of guys involved tyin Wallace is becoming a player for them on their offense defensively start you start to see guys Step Up in coverage sh DAV is had a nice game today so that’s the thing if they can just focus on the reality which is just doing your job playing your 111 I think that’s how we can get this Baltimore Ravens team that we saw tonight to play through January and into February the players make the plays and that’s where we start our Focus here on post game but the underlying theme throughout the entire night those two gentlemen behind us the Harbaugh Bowl it’s now 3 the way of John over Jim a Jim Hardball Le defense had never given up a 200 yard rushing performance against until this moment 212 for the Ravens did you see anything in this coaching matchup that makes you feel like there is a decided advantage or was it just a better roster a better football team that came away with the win it’s a little bit of everything we talked about this all throughout the first half and throughout the game the adjustments that weren’t made defensively by the Chargers with how the Ravens ran the football anytime they were in eye formation Henry was getting six yards plus anytime they went single back the Chargers did a good job of stopping him at the point of attack and making a tackle so they didn’t start to adjust and put that Fourth Man down the line of scrimmage until the fourth quarter by that time it’s too late and that’s where we saw Baltimore really capitalize and you saw Jim uh John Harbaugh lean more into man I’m going for it on fourth down I think he just said aggressive I got to win this ball game against my brother that’s why I saw tonight J suppos what we saw the rest of the season it was a personal issue I mean you don’t have to overthink it because Derrick Henry they they weren’t they couldn’t tackle Derrick Henry and if they could things might have been differently if DJ JK dobins hadn’t got hurt maybe the game’s a little closer and you talked about the the struggles at the wide receiver position uh for for the Chargers outside of my guy lad makoni that also didn’t help but I don’t know that JN out coached Jim I I think if the roles were reverse in terms of Jim being the coach of the Ravens the Ravens probably still win this game because as you pointed out Lamar Jackson’s the best player on the field and he did Lamar Jackson things and then then Derrick Henry did the rest interesting match up between these two brothers in this game and it’s again John Harbaugh coming away with the advantage over the younger brother in Jim postgame is presented by Old El Paso start somewhere fresh it is time for your talk about a game-changing performance of the night emry hunt who changed the outcome most in this one y’all ready for this mhm Patrick Ricard the fullback listen I’ve been talking about this dog on eye formation all night guys and the reason why I was so admin about it is because they got an extra body on the second level big on big body on body we call that B blocking and when you have a fullback that’s 28 80 lb also shares time as a defensive lineman going up against these lighter 225lb linebackers you’re kicking out that second level or if he’s blocking an in manal line of scrimmage he matches that level of weight and physicality to the uh defensive end so he’s getting that extra body now you got in the offensive lineman getting to the second level Henry was getting to the linebacker level without getting touched and then after that no DB is going to tackle him so I thought Patrick rard played a great game tonight we saw him on the field a lot this evening I wish he wore number nine though he wors 42 like it is Slim it fits though slimming number nine look I I appreciate your positivity and I typically like to be positive but there are some issues that need to be addressed and it’s with first round pick Quinton Johnson from a year ago struggle last year as a rookie had a Resurgence at times this year and you saw some of the the glimmer that you saw at TCU in terms of the playmaking ability five targets and he had as many catches as all three of us combined uh specifically I’m going go 11 minutes in the fourth quarter on their own 34 yd lines the Chargers are third and six the score is 2316 the Chargers are trailing uh he runs a shallow the ball hits him in the hands and the ball hits the ground uh he had at least 10 yards maybe more should he turned the corner had three subsequent drops after that as they were trying to drive and and keep keep in the game I feel terrible for Quenton Johnson I’m sure he feels bad but that changed the T of that game it was a onore game with 11 minutes to go in the fourth quarter easy third down conversion and that changes the whole outcome of what was to follow and you can see the the faces uh sag the shoulders dro and the rest was history a negative game-changing performance and a fullback these two gentlemen always keeping me on my toes on a night where Lamar Jackson and derck Henry do exactly what they do but digging deep in some great analysis as always emry hunt and Ryan Wilson thank you fellas as we take a look at the Chargers defensive effort in this game and in this season first nine games as opposed to the last two again a season high in points allowed here against the Ravens offense that took to the ground in the second half and imposed their will in win
