[Music] welcome into the Detroit Lions live postgame show presented by Cure auto insurance 90 points later week 15 is a wrap for the first time in 13 weeks Detroit Lions know what it feels like to lose 48- 42 is the final over 1,00 total yards of offense comined between both of these teams and the bills are walking away as winners here in week 15 alongside the Super Bowl champ Lois Brown I’m Danny Rogers we knew that this was going to be a shootout did we know over 1100 total yards of offense maybe not 90 points probably was the over that a lot of people took and got right uh this is a big loss for Detroit granted bills are an AFC opponent however that one scene for Detroit in the NFC is hanging hanging in the balance now it really is Danny like you say this was a big big game um you got Philadelphia we still got Green Bay we got Minnesota still on our heels so this was a big game the one thing I’ll say Danny I’m so proud how we stuck in there I mean we gave ourself a opportunity with 12 seconds left in the game and that’s all you want to be able to do give yourself an opportunity to win so we did do that mhm you’re going to see where these 1100 total yards of offense came from rushing yards for the Buffalo Bills they were going up against the fifth best rushing defense in the Detroit Lions James Cook he just tore it up younger brother of Delvin cook time of possession it’s not bad five minutes less for these Detroit Lions who wanted to keep quarterback Josh Allen off the fields and then in the Red Zone we just talked about this off camera Lis lions were five of five what happened I mean again Danny if I look at the time of possession it’s a little skewed because again they had dominated Us in the time of possession it seemed like they had the ball pretty much the whole first half of the game and we played catchup I know talking and listening to Shawn mcder and Josh Allen this week the one word that kept coming out of their Camp Buffalo’s Camp was sense of urgency they kept using the word urgency and they came in here and they played with a sense of urgency to day against a very good Lions team so we know we’re still trying to get healthy Danny but Buffalo came in like they needed this game and they played very very hard today 48 rushing yards total from Detroit also sticks out we will talk about that run game coming up soon but first head coach Stan Campbell is standing by at the podium credit that team you know they were ready to go uh and and uh we knew they would be uh we knew they’d have a sense of urgency coming off of that tough loss out there on the west coast and um you know we just couldn’t quite match it so um you know they uh they did a good job um you know and ultimately you know it’s like I told the team man I I did I didn’t have those guys ready to go not not like that you know not when you’re playing a team like that and um you know that that’s with me man you know I I um we had a number of guys that you know have played a lot better than that just overall and and so that tells that tells me that’s me man I didn’t have these guys completely ready to roll um so you know it doesn’t mean I thought the effort was good man guys fought you just there was little things in there that uh that bit us uh things that you know we knew we could not give these guys anything uh it’s too good of a team and we gave them we gave them some stuff um there so um you know it’s it’s a tough pill to swallow but at least we know now where we stack up against you know one of the afc’s best teams and it’s not good enough it’s not today it’s not so um tough pill to swallow but like I told the team nothing changed from whether we won or lost today we still got to win next week I mean that’s the bottom line so um so we got to bounce back and get ready to roll you the CH about it all just disappointing was defens 49 y just the success they had yeah it’s frustrating you know I thought we would I thought we would you know we’d be better um and there again it’s not the you know some of these things where they make a play man I can live with that stuff you know it’s it’s across the board when you know that you have you self-inflicted wounds there’s things that that we did on our own and gave those guys uh something to where they they could they had better opportunities that that’s the frustrating part you just want to know that um you know you didn’t help them and I do feel like we helped them a little bit there how much was this just a case of injuries catching up with the defense and playing really good qu no I’m not buying it I’m not I don’t buy it you know we we can be better we should have been better we know how good they are but that was that team was more urgent than us today overall all getting outside of the pocket as often as he did yeah you know he he got us a few times we knew unless we were in certain coverages we had to keep him Ed in there and it was going to take a lot of discipline up front and then there would be these things particularly third down where we could cut it loose and go get him and uh we had some of those and then you know somebody we may have that’s uh trying to spy out on him’s got to got to get him and we couldn’t get him um so look he he poses uh a huge issue I mean he’s tough you know and we knew that going in and um you know certainly we we wanted to be able to handle that better and it was just it was one of those days we just didn’t you know and and then we couldn’t counteract it on offense you know and I that was kind of some of this issue too is you know I thought on defense we had two crucial stops the end of half you know one of them goes in at halftime obviously but at least you eliminate points and the one before that offense gets it back we can’t score you know we can’t turn it into points so um and then vice versa you know offense starts going and then and then we couldn’t stomp him on defense so it just was one of those games we didn’t compliment each other well a game like this do you chalk it up to Josh Allen was great and they were ready or do you think you have some serious deficiencies to look at at no I uh man I I just feel like we we didn’t play at the same level that that team did today that that’s how I feel and that’s why honestly I I put I put this on me man I I didn’t I just didn’t feel like I had them ready to go not like we’ve been you know and you can get away with maybe if you’re not quite all the way to a 10 but not against Buffalo Bills Kansas City Chiefs or Green Bay Packers Minnesota Philip whoever you know whoever they are it’s not going to be good enough and uh it wasn’t good enough today was the uh first onside kick uh what kind of motivated you to to do that that early uh I just I thought we’d get the possession you know um I thought we were going to get that ball and uh one of bat’s best kicks um that I’ve seen him have that was a that was a big kicker at the end you know that thing took a good jump on us and Hollis made a heck of a play on it and you know obviously now sitting here hindsight after them taking it down to the three yard line yeah I wish I wouldn’t have done that uh but is what it is a lot something Mony at all the G uh he just got a little banged up you know he got a little banged up and and really look we only had 15 rushes you know we we we never got our Run game going which was going to be a point of emphasis and even out of those 15 carries we just we could never we could never get it going so that’s two weeks in a row it’s not good enough and it’s it’s not them it’s us you know and that’s what’s frustrating too we’re better than that um but then we we got in this type of game where you know golf’s playing at such a high level uh you know and we got some receivers making plays St Brown made some plays for us you know uh Gibbs made some plays and that you know you getting that kind of shootout and you don’t feel like you can run it then you’re going to throw it and you know like I said we wouldn’t have had this much produ ction had our quarterback not played as good as he did I mean he played Top Notch now that’s that’s asking a lot of any quarterback but 59 attempts here I mean that was that was big time um big time yeah Dan is there update on dorsy and also yeah yeah he’s uh he’ll he’ll probably be out for the year he is going to be out for the year it’s a tough injury really got similar to Hutch no more tomorrow I don’t feel good about either one of those guys for the rest of the season yeah normally if I if I’m like saying I don’t feel good that that means not good for the rest of the year so don’t feel good about it you know didn’t kind of show you how you stack one of the afc’s best right now it’s December but and a lot of people will probably jump draw some conclusions how do you feel what does it mean for your playoff read I guess where you have to get um no I think it’s you know I don’t really I don’t know I don’t take it into that like okay well we’re I look at it more as man we were not ready to play today you know like I I think so much more about finding ways to win the game um and we weren’t able to do that um and so we were not good enough today versus that opponent you know to have a chance to win it not enough um so you know we we just got to be ready to go we got to be more locked in next time we play and honestly that that’s what I’m saying I’m serious it starts with me man I I have to do a much better job of getting these guys ready to roll and be urgent about um you know this type of opponent so no excuses uh it just wasn’t good enough and uh that was the bottom line it’s frustrated everybody’s frustrated guys are frustrated and but you know what that’s that’s part of life man you lose and it it’s a bad taste in your mouth and and now what are we going to do about it you know do we sit there and feel sorry for ourselves we’re going to bounce back go to Chicago so being the starting quarterback for the Lions moving out here to Detroit what’s the first thing you learned about car insurance yeah I learned it’s a challenge and see how you can save Lions losing one here in week 15 48 to 42 is the final against the Buffalo Bills this is the first time all season long Detroit Lions run game has been held to below 100 yard 48 on the day it was led by Jamir Gibbs on the ground though eight carries good enough for 31 yards and one touchdown that he got in there in the in the second half jir Gibbs still over 100 scrimmage yards here today so even when the Run game isn’t going he’s still impacting this offense no he he really is Danny because again he does it in both pass and in the Run game the thing that’s just kind of difficult for me to accept right now is that we just only ran the ball 15 times coming into this game I would have felt that we would have ran the ball a lot more than we threw the ball and I know circumstances dictate what you have to do throughout the course of a game but I thought our key to success would have been for us to run the ball like we’ve been doing all year long and then everything else comes off the Run credit Buffalo they did a great job of shutting us down the day and and they were able to kind of control the tempo of the game and they did a great job Dany they really did that’s a good team 11 and three team that’s a really good team over there Detroit o Linewood full strength too with left tackle Taylor Decker making it back into the lineup today in the receiving game almond raw St Brown was lights out 193 receiving yards that is now his new career high for yards in a single game 14 receptions one touchdown you know how almond raw functions though he had two drops in this one one he dropped one off his fingertips and a fumble you know he’s GNA think about those plays more than those 193 yards you so right about that and it was so unusual to see that out of armar the fumble you know then the incomplete pass because he’s been just such a consant pro since he’s been here he’s a guy that Jared relies on he’s a guy that that offense relies on and he’s been doing a great job so again everybody has a off game like that but if a off game is having over close to 200 yard receiving I think a lot of receivers will take a off game like that early Tim Patrick was found in the receiving game he’s coming off a multi-touchdown game from last week against the Packers he comes in gets things going with one t touchdown in the second quarter to make it a 14 to7 ball game just 30 yards on the day he was still really impactful with big catches yeah and then getting that touchdown and that big 65 uh frame he stretched out and guy that crossed the goal line so again I I just think Tim Patrick could be such a Ultimate Weapon in this offense because of his size I mean the guy can run the middle of the field for you he could get the out routes if you need them to but he could go up with his catch radius and catch almost anything that’s thrown at him so I think he’s a guy that we’re going to probably rely on more and more Danny and you see it we’re going to him a lot more the numbers may not say that but Jared really looks for him a lot more he’s a receiver that go trust and golf also trust Jameson Williams we continue to see that relationship Bud here in this NFL season Jameson Williams 37 yards on the day just three catches you know what he’s going to be thinking about that self-inflicted wound that dropped touchdown pass in the end zone I know Danny the only saving grace it was a hole and call called on it so it would there another self-inflicted by J Mo would have made that catch it would have came back but you’re right you want to make any ball throw at you you want to catch that ball whether it’s going to stand or not and that’s one like I think you’re right I think he’ll be thinking about that all night long yeah he sure will I I mean you look there were four different scores on this Detroit Lions offense here today they’re high-powered they know that if they score 42 points a game yeah they’re typically going to going to win but they’re not going to beat the Buffalo Bills if that that defense can’t slow down like they say old say if they go to shooting you get the shooting too I mean you got the goal you got the goal and we knew that Danny like you said we knew Buffalo is an explosive offense uh this a offense once they get in the Red Zone pretty much it’s four downs for those guys they go for it just as much as we go for it but they were so proficient today inside the Red Zone and Josh Allen oh my goodness I mean to see that in real life Danny he is he he’s amazing he really is yeah Josh Al 23 of 34 on the day he also got in on on the rushing game as well but another 100 receiving yard catch receiver here today was Sam leapa seven receptions 111 yards granted a lot of those coming in the second half and a little bit too late for this offense yeah it was but again it’s nice to see Sam kind of getting fed the ball fed to Sam cuz we’re going to need him we’re going to need him I mean look we got a lot of season left we’re going to need these guys step up again unfortunate that we’re still taking injuries but the guys that are there we’re going to need them to step their game up because again all these games the rest of this season they’re going to be tough tough games and they’re divisional games so we’re really going to have to hunker down and make sure that we get these games last but certainly not least on this offense qb1 Jared Goff he was asked to throw the ball 59 times today that is typically not the recipe for Success coming from this Detroit Lions offense he did complete 38 of those pass attempts just under 500 passing yards and you know what he heard Josh Allen had six touchdowns last week he’s like okay I might not get six but I’m gonna get five the the caveat all of this he was sacked three times it was a little bit difficult for him to keep the groove going but you know what he kept it poised he kept it to together that’s why he’s our player of the game and you still see that passer rating of 11 18.9 uh Danny what I don’t see is how he used those Wheels I mean Jared man he pulled that ball down the G and he got out of trouble he picked up first downs he did what he needed to do to extend plays I love the way Jared G played today because again not only did he use his arm but he chose to use his legs too to help this team out and I thought it was big I thought it was vital because you put that on fam so now teams know okay Jared Ro Jared uh golf can get out he can extend plays and he can get the first down if he needs to G always talks about how he can impact this game in The Rush game and he did do that today with a big first down run you keep talking about Josh Allen last week Shawn McVey of the LA Rams head coach said that Josh Allen is an alien this past week Dan Campell told me he’s a superpow he’s a superum he’s Superman name any of the supers that’s Josh Allen he’s very difficult to stop and you saw that today even when the pocket was squeezed he slipped out and he was able to make plays at the last second I like to say he was one of The Incredibles like the dad the dad incredible that’s a big Dad yeah that is that is is you’re not wrong Josh Allen 6′ five yeah I’m telling you he’s a big guy and Danny I I mean I really wanted to see him in real life see him perform see if he was worthy of that mvp uh caliber or candidacy that he’s up for yes he is he’s everything that was advertised the guy is a problem for the AFC to stop Josh Allen two Rush two rushing touchdowns on 68 rushing yards here today I I know and they W big plays Danny but it was the little things he avoid a sack get out throw the ball down field I mean it’s the little aggravating things that he did to keep plays uh going that was so frustrating today but that’s what great players do they frustrate you and he did that today they keep saying Allan very good unscripted and he had to do a lot of unscript here today there are three players on this Detroit Lions offense that have over 1,000 scrimming scrimmage yards here today you didn’t see David Montgomery get in on the action he just had four rushing yards we heard from Dan Campbell he might be dealing with something injury-wise but he has over 1,000 scrimmage yards on the season jir Gibbs 14 total touchdowns that is leading everyone on Detroit’s team right now Alan ra St Brown over 1,000 receiving yards today and Alan raw he keeps somehow breaking records he now has the second most catches a player has logged in the first four seasons in NFL history number 400 today surpasses Jarvis Landry man I’m telling you Danny I always say this to you it’s just amazing to me every time you turn around it’s either a franchise record or NFL record this young man is either breaking tying doing something with it it’s just amazing how his career has just taken off the start of his career and it only seems to be able to get better because Amar ra he’s a guy that’s going to put in the work he’s going to make sure he’s on top of his game each and every time he takes the field Dan Skipper offensive tackle I know BMT he is always reporting eligible he did so today because Dan Campbell had a touchdown pass that he needed to catch you know what he did he did one better ran towards the end zone with that ball lowered a shoulder took a hit he didn’t really need to take and he scored his first ever touchdown in the NFL lus you played 18 seasons in the NFL no one let you catch any balls I I never got a BMT a big man touchdown they never gave the big fella one I wish I could have got one like you say Skipper looked good throwing that shoulder in there and getting across that goal line but again Ben Johnson the creativity how he uses everybody it don’t matter what position position you play you might get a ball so it was just great to see him get a BMT big man touchdown and you know we keep know of that so I guess that was the third one in um franchise history I’m not sure so okay there you go he joins Taylor Decker who’s currently I wish it would have been lus Brown I wish he have been joining lus Brown this one getting I’ll write a letter for you thank you thank you I will best part about that Dan Kipper and his wife Mac are being induced tonight and they’re going to have their baby girl so baby and a touchdown incoming for the Skippers qv1 Jared G is standing by at the podium let’s hear from him yeah it’s not enough um that’s really the best way to put it um I think yeah we we were able to rack up some yards and some touchdowns there late in the game and you know if if we had done that earlier in the game you know it probably would have been a closer game and um wouldn’t wouldn’t have felt so much like garbage time there at the end I know we kind of made it close there at the end get the onsite kick you got a chance but uh yeah I think early in the game we kind of shot ourselves in the foot offensively um in a game like that against an opponent like that you get behind the eightball a little bit um down a couple scores and it’s hard to hard to climb back two games in a row where the the rushing attack maybe wasn’t as efficient as you’re used to uh are you able to kind of diagnose what the issues were today with with the running I don’t know I think we had to in some ways move on from it and with the with the way the game was going um you know maybe we stick with it if the game’s in a little bit a different place it starts to pop and then you know it’s a different story I don’t know but there’s nothing um significant there Dan you said Dan said that heame for not having you guys but he said he felt you guys match the inal a hard a little bit being the last so much on the line least no I think I think he’s right he’s he’s as good a head coach as there is in this league and he knows when things are right and he knows when things aren’t right and um for whatever reason yeah they they came out and and you know kind of punch Us in the mouth there early on and we kind of found a way to respond there later on and um but but still it wasn’t enough and again against a team like that you can’t come out and uh allow them to do that early on and and and try to you know claw your way back it’s too hard it really is and and that’s the games that we’re going to be playing from here on out so yeah maybe it’s a good wake up call for us and a nice little re recalibration for us and now we get to go on the road we have some nice home games we just finished up but now we get to go on the road it’s us against everybody again and come together and and be a bit tighter and um move on a l but you know can you take appreciation from this test this late in the season see some of those things clean up on at this point season um appreciation from the loss I don’t know yeah I think that’s a dang good team and I think we’re a dang good team and they played really well and we didn’t and that’s why the game was lopsided for most of the game and um they’re they’re the class of the N NFL and we’d like to think we are too and they came out and played better than we did today J you guys haven’t lost much at all obviously all year so when you suffer a loss like this do you have to resist a Temptation not to overreact or overthink it or others might think the sky is falling or what we don’t yeah no we we we’ll be just fine I’m sure there’ll be ton of stuff written about the sky falling but no internally we’re we’re good um yeah we had won I don’t know how many in a row up to that point but um it sucks to lose we would have loved to win every game out all the way through the Super Bowl and um I hope we can look back on this one as a good Learning lesson for us and uh move on and um use some of the stuff that we learned in this game and and to to help us win these next three um before we hit the playoffs you said the phrase recalibration after the camp loss seemed like you guys similarly recalibrated some deficiencies I mean can can this ultimately be beneficial to your ultimate goal here yeah if you handle it the right way right like that’s I’m saying like if yeah and I think we will you know if you handle it the right way and you and you recognize where where your shortcomings were and um get better and move on yeah then yeah sure it can be a great it can be a great thing for a team and uh you know we know we we’ve got Minnesota on our heels in the division and and we’re battling Philly for the one seed and um now if there’s not urgency now then there there there won’t be you know and I I believe there will be a ton of urgency from our guys and not that there wasn’t today but um there will be now for sure you know we’ve got three games starts with the division next week and move on from there seemed like their their D line had you guys on your heels in the first half first quarter anything about the way they rushed anything you guys no I just thought they played well they played they they played well early on certainly the first quarter they played uh you know better than us and and myself everyone I think you know I don’t think that’s um Up For Debate and then as the game went on WE settled in and played better and um made it a close game but it wasn’t enough maybe not as fun in a loss but to to get skip of the touchdown what’s going on personal life for him as well you know just how meaningful was that for you yeah it was cool it was cool to see him score and um he almost didn’t he almost came up short but trying trying to run that guy over but um yeah I’m glad he I’m glad he got that touchdown but yeah no it’s it would be a lot more fun to celebrate that in a win absolutely than you guys all right thanks guys Saint great game is that the can save welcome back to Detroit Lions live postgame show Detroit’s defense was led by two players tonight someone find a piece of wood to knock on these guys have been consistent forces all season long they’re not injured safety briyan branch and linebacker Jack Campbell they combined for 25 total tackles tonight you just said before we got here Kirby Joseph in the secondary was a little bit quiet where did Branch pick up some slack yeah I I I think what uh happened was how uh Aaron Glenn was playing Brian Branch a lot of times you would see Brian down in the Box meaning where the linebackers are a lot of times you would see him up high and he even had him on the end of the line of scrimmage so he was just trying to disguise where they have Brian Branch at we didn’t Blitz as much as I thought we would have blitzed today and again that enabled Josh Allen the by time with his legs but I did think that Brian Branch made some solid tackles today um and did what he needed to do that kind of help support that defense but man I’ll tell you what Buffalo’s offense they were roll in the day they really were D it was impressive to see that offense almost kind of watching our offense almost kind of a mirror image of our offense that’s going to be a hard out for any team in the AFC the Buffalo Bills which Detroit defense would be accustomed to going up against in practice but they give up over 500 total yards of offense the most this season and only Force One Buffalo punt now we look towards we we look towards tracking all the scores around the league because it is crunch time three more Reg season games left for Detroit they have to win out if they want to clinch that one seed and even then it is not totally guaranteed because you know what Minnesota is on their heels taking a look at La Char LA Rams versus San Fran okay 12 to six Lions will will travel to Santa Clara if Niners keep getting beat down I kind of don’t hate that go in there take care of business forit on with them outside of the football field Dallas got a big win over the Panthers but we don’t really care about them right now okay Baltimore over the Giants 35 to4 nothing shocking there Cardinals in the NFC getting a big win over New England I know Colts Broncos had a lot of implications that we don’t really care about I’m not going to lie bucks put it on the LA Chargers 40 to 17 there was some breakdown in there I would love to know what it is that’s shocking too it is Philly they I mean this this score looks kind of close but over two scores up on Steelers they get a big du big dub Over Pittsburgh and that in State rivalry looking at some big game implications Green Bay right now over Seattle 7 to nothing in the first Monday Night Football Bears over Vikings I don’t know if we need to say this more than once but Lions fans are cheering for the Bears this weekend and then they’re not next weekend that’s exactly right so we need the Bears to come through come on Chicago we need you let’s see here’s division leaders liance a top that in the NFC North 12 to2 Eagles 12-2 as well M eagles need a pick up some losses here as well in the Wild Card Vikings eye that slot 11 and2 it could all come down to week 18 Detroit versus Minnesota if both of those teams come in with just two losses oh it’s going to be dicey it is going to be a good one yeah it really is Danny and I I know this with the schedule makers they they have to be loving this that they it could come down to a take you know All or Nothing game with the Lions versus the Vikings um again we got a lot of work to take care of in between facing the Vikings starting off with Chicago which is going to be a tough game divisional game is going to be tough Danny next Sunday 1 p.m. week 16 the rematch between Detroit and the Chicago Bears last time Detroit played Chicago and it was a an abysmal ending everyone was waiting for it to end waiting for Chicago to do something on offense they end up firing their head coach uh and they’re a little bit in a an abysmal space right now rookie quarterback Caleb Williams trying to make something out of nothing here in this season we need to make him look like a rookie again and we we’re not going to take Chicago lightly I think again we had got to wake up call with those guys when they came here really really close game so I think these guys going to be a little bit more geared in for the Chicago Bears because they know if you let this team hang around man this a team that can beat you any team can but a divisional team they really can hurt you and hurt what we’re trying to get done MH we will be tracking scores across the league here through Monday night yeah that’s going to be a big one bears taking on Vikings and then Lions heading to the windy city to take on those Chicago Bears in week 16 for Lis Brown I’m Danny Rogers this is a tough pill to swallow one that Detroit has not had to swallow in 13 weeks they have not lost since week two you didn’t even know how to act when you came out here a little stuck right there that peel they got a little stuck right there Danny Lions hoping they don’t know what that feels
