the Maple Leafs took that one four to two they’re looking to do it again here tonight this is the second of three meetings between these two teams the third will come January 16th now on the power play the numbers Devils have the advantage they are first overall in the National Hockey League on the power play Toronto is now dipped back down to 18th on the penalty kill however Toronto’s doing a great job they are eighth overall in the league devils are 12th in the faceoff Circle Toronto was second they have now dropped all the way down to fifth spot all the way down uh Devils sitting 17th in the goals for goals against Toronto is 19th and fifth where the devils are eight and six so it’s going to be a very interesting matchup tonight and we’re waiting for them to get going so we we can get going stellars is an 85 and2 with a 222 goals against and a 924 safe percentage markstrom is a 136 and one with a 251 and a 907 each tendy with one shut out here tonight pres interesting reports that the Ducks want to flip trouba the Leafs are top of the list yeah so Phil we’re gonna get into that at intermission a little bit um there’s a lot of rumors swirling around right now trouba um expected to be moved uh probably not right away a little bit closer to uh it’s a little bit of a high asking price because the Ducks are hoping to retain some of that salary now Toronto apparently has been interested in him all along but obviously don’t have the cap space to pick up his his full Freight so uh the Ducks picking him up and then retaining some salary and flipping him over might be a good good move it’ll be very interesting to see uh if they actually pull the trigger on that and what that asks may be we don’t know exactly what that ask may be hey Sarah how’s it going welcome in good to games they’re S3 and0 they were on a two game slide losing to Pittsburgh and Washington the Devils on the other hand six 4-0 they did lose to Colorado uh in their last outing so both teams looking to out and look for well Mitch Marner continues to be that guy 27 games played 38 points he is just doing it and doing it well Willie neander 28 points and 27 games he is also the other guy who’s crushing it right now when we talk about Austin Matthews Austin Matthews returning a couple of games ago he’s 18 and 18 18 points in 18 games he is doing a really good job however the question being asked is how come the Leafs almost went undefeated with no Austin Matthews Matthews steps back into the lineup and we’re now on a two- game losing streak what has happening why has the Mojo changed we kind of touched on it all throughout um the streak while Matthews was out and the Leafs were playing so well we wondered what would change when Matthews came back into the fold how would that Mojo change and we have seen that change drastically the last two games look very different the leaves came close they just couldn’t find that way to score so we’ll have to see and keep an eye on what’s going on there now also big news the Toronto Blue Jays almost made a big splash they were in on the Juan stto deal but stto does not sign in Toronto goes elsewhere and it’s kind of funny the NHL has only seen seven 100 plus million do contracts 100 million plus contracts collectively of those seven players they do not match the value of sto’s New Deal the seven players where their deals added up all over 100 million a grand total of $753 million for those seven players while sto’s Deal $765 million if that doesn’t go to show how at a wax some of these salaries are holy moly it is absolutely madness madness to see the craziness of these salaries but I wanted to throw it out there we can discuss that as well a little bit later on now you’re officials tonight because we need to know who to blame throughout the the game the officials Tom chelski with Mitch Dunning those are your two referees your two lines persons Kyle Flemington and Johnny Murray so Murray and Flemington on the lines tonight and it’s Dunning and chelski who’s going to be calling the penalties MLB or NHL MLB Phil MLB is way out a whack NHL I mean listen I’d love for the NHL players to get paid more in line with NBA MLB and NFL but it’s so crazy I think all the salaries are so high they all need to come down a little bit to reality um I get it right it’s a hard lifestyle to live but you’re playing a game uh so it’s very interesting the way the world of salaries is going uh counting on Alex and Willie tonight CCH play together so no Alex tonight Todd Alex at Le least from what we’ve seen with the potential roster it looks like Alex is going to be a healthy scratch tonight we’ll have to see if that is indeed the lines that come on the ice uh why you little devil go leaves go we hope the leavs are GNA go it’s because there’s no cap in MLB yeah but even in the NBA even in the NBA they have that salary cap but you can go above it and pay the luxury tax so it’s kind of like a soft cap I guess not there’s just no hard cap in the other sports which which you know tie salaries to revenue um but it’s crazy right right now baseball salaries at a control um and of course with the Jays trying to get in on stto Vladimir Guerrero is like hey what about me I feel slighted they got to get a deal done with vlat as well or we might see him leave town when he comes a free agent at the end of the season that would be something so lots going on in the world of baseball we’re going to have to pay attention to but right now we are in the world of the national league and we are getting ready for this game to baseball because there’s so many more people around the world playing baseball than there is hockey but the numbers are absolutely staggering and you’re right fans end up paying in the end you sign a big player salaries go up contracts go up season tickets go up and look at the Toronto Raptors this I don’t understand the Toronto Raptors had a terrible season last year but they still raised ticket prices I don’t understand the logistics of some of those decisions but it’s all a business and we’ve talked about the business of sport before all right stellars against markstrom this could be a very defensive game in terms of the goenda goal tender duo we got so much talent on these two teams but two unbelievable tendies going to be tying things down no anthems again really you’re gonna do a know what I would I would the problem is probably we forget to cut the grass properly I would just drive it all over the place um Russ no I try not to I try not to um you know everybody has their different parenting style uh everybody believes in their own things and Everybody’s Free To to do as they will um I personally try not to swear around the kids as much as possible you know sometimes things happen and it and it kind of slips out um I do allow them to watch movies with With cursing in it a lot of movies now have swearing in it um so they I mean listen they know all the words they probably know more words than I do because kids today have all kinds of new words that I have no idea what they mean um but yeah they’re they’re they’re pretty good they’re pretty good kids when it comes to that what are cabbage rolls or simul Phil oh my gosh Phil so cabbage rolls it’s very different than a spring roll I mean spring rolls are delicious as well little plum sauce so good but cabbage rolls uh imagine like a giant spring roll but it it’s cabbage and it’s wrapped with meat inside and people put different things inside but different types of meat but really you put some meat in there and it’s wrapped up in cabbage you put a little sauce little bit of sauce on there as well it’s so good yeah one one shot is really bad and that’s kind of why I’m trying to distract myself from talking about this team right now because it was a very frustrating period a very frustrating period they just couldn’t get anything going on um they they were they were atrocious um bad passing who had home rinks and of course people on the street did home rinks we never did a home rink um my backyard now doesn’t really allow for a home rink um but I think it’s also different today you can buy like all these professional kits that you put up and some hose water and let it sit it’s not like back in the day I mean that that’s some serious serious work to get the the tractor and the ice like Meyers so is trouba a potential replacement for a a Meyers or benois in a playoff run situation Noah should replace Matthews Peter that’s awesome that’s funny he’s a goalie though he’s a goalie he he can back up for stars uh so trouba you know he’s he’s a big hitter right he he will he will he will hit you hard um he tends to keep hitting guys getting guys with their heads down which that we don’t like to see um seems to get that chicken wing out there a little bit you know he’s 30 years old so he’s kind of right in that Prime right in that middle spot of his career 25 games this season he only has six assists six points he’s a minus four in his career 773 games played he does have 73 goals 242 assists uh last year he only played 69 games had three goals 19 assists the year before 2223 he did play an all 82 had eight goals 22 assists so he’s not getting you a ton of points but he’s more that guy who’s who’s gonna look to to rock you uh do you know a do you want a player so not at 8 million Phil but if if Anaheim retains 50% at 4 4 million at 4 million it might be worth a flyer right if they go to the trade deadline and and they make some moves if they’re going all in on this season at8 million Buck or excuse me at 4 million bucks might might be worth it Noah is our ebug when s has to be that’s right he’s we we call him in we go to the third base coach we give the signal and in he comes so it it would be interesting situation with uh if they did that move well obviously has to see what shape the team is in uh to make that judgment call a little bit later but I traded both Alexander gorv And Justice and aunan and this marks the first time in NHL history that a team has traded both opening night Michael nth but the Avalanche and we talked about this in the past their goal tending has been terrible gorv not the guy they’re fed up with both of them and they packed them all out all right leslee says nope no keep trouba out of here so I thought that was interesting when I saw they traded both goalies so gorv goes to San Jose and the Sharks also receive a second round pick in 26 and a fifth round pick in 25 McKenzie Blackwood the main piece that goes back to Colorado so the Avalanche looking to get some better goal tending and now McKenzie Blackwood isn’t the Beall and end all but at least he should be an improvement over gorv would you trade Riley straight up for trouba no chance I would not make that trade Travis I would not I like Morgan Riley a lot I do um he makes some good good plays uh he might be a little overpaid but I I do like Morgan Riley I don’t think I could make that uh that move uh by the way Easton Cowan maybe you’ve heard of him uh Cowan will still attend Team Canada’s National Junior selection camp but will not participate for precautionary reasons Cowan left a game this past weekend with an injury and did not return so we’ll see if e Cowan is named to Canada’s Junior Team but he is not going to participate
