great day um and now we recover and be ready for another game on Wednesday yeah I was watching you actually when you went for the coin Tas and they turned you around so you were shooting it into the cup first half you look really annoyed about that actually did it end up working for you I was annoyed by the fact that he started the toss without me even ackn I was obviously busy with my mascot quote last uh last week and that’s that’s where things are at at the moment I’m sure there will be further negotiation there’s a long time between now and the end of the season the crowd absolutely adore him the club adore him he adores the club he’s just one of the most incredible players with great success playing in a team that you know on top of the world at the moment I still believe I can’t bring myself to think that he won’t be here last season but obviously with comments like that it does make you wonder where are you with this col he just said probably does mean there’s a probability for him to stay which uh I think um he is good for Liverpool of course he’s a fantastic uh player and uh definitely if he goes they will miss him because he’s a go scorer he’s a guy who can create goal is’s a guy who um help the team when they on tough Moment Like The Penalty scored today and uh but we we know in the game that sometime players at that age they sometime go for the for the bigger money I will say and uh but we hope that he stay in the Premier League of course the one thing that I think if if you’re wanting to go if you’re thinking of going you you you try to avoid it you don’t really want to speak about it you almost let the days and games tick tick away and and I think that’s what it almost it’s not a cry to you know an appeal or anything but I do think just the way he’s speaking about he’s almost putting Liverpool the football club’s hand to the fire in a way and saying you know I’m telling you now I’m telling the whole world what you’re going to do about it the crowd are now won’t be too happy Liverpool supporters around the world won’t be too happy if the club knows people like us will then be exactly but if he didn’t want to stay he wouldn’t at the end all the headlines are about him but that was such a good team performance by Liverpool let’s have a look at how the penalty came about for Moos Salah to score his latest goal against Manchester City yeah well I think the one complaint here from Manchester city is that that Moos Salah was in an offside position you see him there at the top of the the screen and if that b and he starts making a move towards it however you know that’s that’s the debate uh I think it’s fine personally what about the what about the City goalkeeper point of view here does that does that affect orga’s decision any way Joe that was the first time I had it in mind to really work out what he was thinking and I think immediately Sala makes an impression that he’s not going for that ball I think it’s very intelligent from moell actually and Orga realizes he’s going to have to deal with Diaz there’s that obvious turnover that no one wants to see that no one expects as I say when man city were playing backwards today I thought they were really poor whereas usually it’s just just an option to to recycle they look vulnerable I think that’s perfectly fine perfectly fair I think I think for me you know the variety of Liverpool of playing short passing and play long when they need it was crucial today and I think that um City struggle a lot with that because City like to put the pressure but Liverpool was not afraid to play the ball be one V one running in your goal for a Defender is always difficult and we saw that on the penalty Here Yeah the more I see it the more I think it’s absolutely fine I can understand people discussing it I can understand if Pep Guardiola says I think it’s offside but it’s not it’s not I mean he he doesn’t really make an attempt to go to the ball or to play the ball yeah he’s in an offside position but that’s not an offense in itself he doesn’t run directly look he runs 5 m to the side of it he’s constantly running in parallel to the ball that’s not offside that’s uh that’s a good decision um and that’s a definite penalty yeah I think intelligent play intelligent play all around and it was really interesting to see the battle leis Diaz versus um Kyle Walker we were right up close to it they were smashing each other the whole time trying to get one-ups and I think I think Diaz won the but today and um we saw obviously Mo Salah at the other end here in the week in the Champions League against Real Madrid missed the target completely from the penalty but very well cooly taken today it was a lovely penalty right in the corner um and as you say that that has to be going through your mind if you’ve missed a penalty only a few days ago then of course you’re going to be thinking about it and then to have the the calmness to to place one right into the into the into the bottom corner was it just shows you his mental strength strength I know I’ve done it myself you take a penalty you miss one the next one you are a little bit panicky you tend I tend to go for for Pace after that thinking you know what just smack it as hard as you can and and make sure you keep it underneath the bar but really calmness is the way forward and he showed great mental strength for that mind you this is a guy who’s got 29 of 35 Premier League penalties now so we shouldn’t really be doubting Mo Salah too much he’s a he’s a big big moment player as well as a big game player coach absolutely that’s that’s why he’s Mo Salah that’s why he’s special in the big moment he will step up he will take the respons the responsibility to shoot the penalty so many player will just turn the back and think like oh you know I missed very important penalty against Real Madrid and then this time I just give to somebody you just step up get a ball and score which was a big big moment because I felt like city were coming back a little bit I was just about to say that did you feel that at one0 that that there was a of light for Manchester City before that penalty there certainly was a of light there was there was some good football being played but I thought look really controlled obviously in the first half this this was coming you could really feel this first goal coming brilliant movement great ball across from Salah but the second half that we were just talking about there it wasn’t necessarily happening um but yeah like I say this this first half was breathless yeah they played that ball a lot didn’t they into this uh into this right hand side for Mo Sal to Chase and I mean he’s so quick and then once he picks the ball up he he lifts his head up smacks it right across the back post I think Kyle walk would be disappointed to let Cody gakpo get ghost in there and gakpo does really well gakpo is having a really good season himself eight atfield now really good and you know what I like some people had hit that over you know some people always try to hit at the middle of the ball with their boot just let sometimes let it hit you take the pace off the even if it hits you on the shin or on the knee or anywhere just make sure you sort of guide it into the that was never going to go over and I had an opportunity to Steve it looks easy but uh that ball was coming across with pace and uh he’s he’s he having a really good season but Mo Salah he was the difference again today when when you play higher line like that uh like Man City you expect your goalkeeper to be a little bit high up to just cover for a long Ball but that ball from Alexon Allen is just on the side and the goalkeeper can’t get there and then and that create a big big problem then for for the back line because they are late they’re running and uh M done really really well there he just fix uh KJ and put the ball there I’m a little bit disappointed with the goalkeeper because the ball there can touch yeah if he can touch the ball there and um for for me he should tou that ball and for for K Walker I think he little bit difficult because the go goes into the goal and there’s a moment as a Defender you just have to to stop a little bit that’s my opinion as a defender of course now not not having it no chance I think it’s an incredible ball I just the more I see it he’s just obviously the way he answered it he’s a good player as as Mo Salah pointed out uh but he is oh my God that ball is absolutely beautiful in between about three or four Man City players just out of orga’s grasp if he gets a feather maybe he does col what do you want him to do there I just I just want him to touch the ball there he did this he touch it but not enough my op because as a Defender when you running to a goal is really hard to touch that ball because if you touch it on goal really because he’s inside a six yard you know and is difficult in my opinion and that goal was coming wasn’t it at that point I mean Liverpool absolutely all over them and when this place is buzzing like that when the players feed from it I said that half time I’ve watched Liverpool for years and years and years now when they’re in that type of form I don’t know what anybody can do that’s the best manager in the world sat there it’s probably the best team we’ve seen in years and years if not ever in the Premier League I I just don’t know how you can stop those waves of attack Liverpool are so good the the atmosphere is so I I I don’t know what I mean if you’re in the Dugout how can you how can you prevent it it’s very hard it’s very very difficult because the intensity they start the game on it was incredible and the pressing every time they get the ball the transition to go forward when every pass was going forward and they were really really aggressive as well and you could see like in second half they lost a little bit of energy which give Man City the control of the game and uh of course defensively they look really solid van dijke was unbelievable we spoke with f there he was like a magnet you know every ball was coming on him C and I think um du BR had a big chance to score you know but he miss it in 2-1 but to make it 2-1 but this is do game happen like that yeah the other end that’s seven clean sheets as well as having the best defense in the Premier League for Liverpool I was I was so impressed talking about van dijk um he marshaled har and that threat he felt isolated up there and he looked it and Van D dijk realized that and he just put himself in the best position every time a ball came in he was there obviously for that one slip one slip and you saw him you don’t really see much animation from Virgil Van DK but when Kell made that save off DE bruyne the little hug that’s that’s a huge statement from Virgil Van cuz he doesn’t climb down from how he likes to be on the pitch and how he walks around with such Authority but they’re playing well as a unit and kellerer stepping up for his team in a big moment you never know it was all comfortable it was done 2-n you know people getting on Pep’s back bang turnover slight lack of concentration for van djk but a really important save I was going to ask you about him because they were talking about injuries when Allison comes out of the team as good as he is a lot of these Liverpool fans what’s going to happen it’s the best compliment to cine ker to say haven’t really noticed the difference it’s not even a conversation is it um and I and I heard them trying to get behind him they came up with Island number one today cuz it’s they backed Allison they love Allison here of course they do but for him to come in and do what he’s doing for his team incredible performance and it’s seamless and that is the biggest compliment you can get as a goalkeeper to come into a team to come into a Club title chasing anfield against Manchester City and for that not even to be a conversation we heard the conversation that was going on the other Dugout what was going on the other end of the pitch not even a conversation is Allison fit yet not sure if he is he’ll probably play if he’s not don’t worry we’ve got Keller and also we had a conversation and we haven’t mentioned his name since about missing canate Joe Gomez a young Joe Gomez that you played with here at Liverpool in seiously again it was incredible it was incredible he played very very well very Cal and he played that diagonal ball was unbelievable today and he was very composed and I knew that he was going to to play well because I know the ball is very calm boy very intelligent you know he’s doesn’t complain too much when you give him the opportunity to come up and step up and play in those big game he deliver and I’m not surprised with his performance he was great no Allison no canate no problem exactly two of their biggest best players um important players and uh as you say that’s what for joining us so I mean you’ve had some week we’ll come to that in a moment but how how did you enjoy that today and how good a performance from your team was that today yeah I think I’ve enjoyed two things first of all the performance of the team and second of all the atmosphere in the stadium there was something because if the players were on top of it I think the fans were on top of it today as well yeah put that into perspective cuz even who’ve been coming here for years and years and years thought that was extra special from the supporters today okay so just how did that feel in the Dugout as the manager to um n generally speaking you’re only focus on what city does and what we have to do because they can cause you so many problems so um you have to keep staying alert all the time I think it was 10 minutes before the end even before feril make the only mistake of the game um the fans were so loud at that moment you felt like okay this is something new for me as well uh they’ve they’ve been behind us every single game but this was this this was really massive but yeah then fil cut me out of it by making a small error but qu was there to save us he was and and at the start as well I mean obviously you got the goal after 12 minutes but the way you started today aror I mean I think front foot something of an understatement yeah um but that probably also has to do with with uh with with City who wanted to bring the ball out from back that’s what they always do that’s where they’re so good at so if you want to have any chance of recovering a ball uh then you have to be so so so aggressive if you’re not they play through you so easily so the only way to press them high is be aggressive and that’s what we were uh I think M most part of the game although the second half we had to defend low as well honor it was incredible first half as good as I’ve seen at anfield for for a long time in the second half City had a little bit more possession was that a tactic from you to almost sit back and play a little bit more Counterattack or is that just because they’re a quality team and you have to suffer at certain periods yeah the last thing so ideally we would have done the same as the first half but yeah you face a team that has so much quality and um I think after we made the substitution again when Darwin came in we had that same aggression again and and and maybe the legs again to press them a bit higher um but yeah it it it also comes down to the quality of city it’s impossible to keep them away from your 18 yard box for 90 minutes but it was a good thing to see if they were in and around the 18 yard box that we were still there to defend for me I just think like um uh do do you think you were a little bit worried because at the start of the game your pressing was incredible and you should have been like two three n really and then uh it didn’t happen in one whe was I think a tough score and uh there’s a moment where I feel I felt like the the energy dropped a little bit you little bit worry in that moment thinking we have to careful there yeah you’re always happy if you’re one up against City because that doesn’t happen a lot for any team in the world and also for us not in the last few games uh the rain is coming down uh but um but yeah if you looked at the amount of chances we had I think one nil after yeah whatever period of time wasn’t what we deserved but yeah there was a lot of confidence in the way we defended as well so yeah then again if we would have scored earlier the nurse would probably been a little bit less but maybe it’s also part of this game because I think everybody enjoyed it till the last minute yeah I’m sorry I’m just I’m just really interested to hear your thoughts such an incredible team you’ve got you know mo Salah Savas these kind of players who can dominate a game like this but to see Joe Gomez coming qu ker if you like under studies in the squad but I thought they were incredible today how do you feel getting to know your team getting to know your players your confidence as a as a squad how are you feeling in December people want told me that wearing this is a problem for a manager but uh not if he holds got I know my vacation in life AR I go on sorry uh no but that that is definitely the strength you need to have as a team that wants to compete at different stages so we play Champions League we play uh uh Premier League all these games are so so tough so you need to have a a full Squad of quality players and that’s what we’re having but you probably also saw today that we only have five Defenders available for four position that was also the reason why off because he comes back from a hamstring injury to play him 90 and Wednesday again and Saturday again in the mercy tide Derby so we need to rotate also in that position but it was it wasn’t a surprise for the Liverpool fans because they saw Joe Gomez playing like this for so many times and I saw him against Brighton playing like this and today he was outstanding again and Ju Just Qui very quickly I mean I know you don’t look at the league table after 13 games but we do but let’s let’s be honest could you have dreamt of being nine points clear at this point no first of all not because um yeah you don’t you don’t look at before you come over here and how many games you’re going to win uh and and if you would have even considered us to win so many then you probably thought that maybe one of these others would win that much as well but they were able to do so I saw Arsenal playing yesterday outstanding team Chelsea today uh invested so much money so they they will be up there again as well uh and City are s them playing today okay they lost today but um I’m I’m I’m I’m 100% sure that they will compete this season again with us with Arsenal and with Chelsea so a long way to go but it’s a good position to have so down there gaet Jamie I see him in the carpack St next to Roy twins waiting I don’t know what they’re talking about Roy that’s unfair we we will we will come to the contract there’s an a lot for us to to talk about here this evening but let’s start with the significance of this what do you think huge huge see the reaction of the players and obviously they’ve got to play it down a little bit but huge huge result great performance City obviously look way off it I know there’s lots of stats we look after again but we’re watching it live here and Liverpool were so Ahad well ahead of them defensively Rock Solid energy Pace power they should have scor a lot more goals they a real desire and to keep it clean sheet at the end outstanding Liverpool performance I thought they mixed game up really well particularly the first half when to play went to go along uh they turned up basically particularly their big players we saw two of them there I thought the two players were outstanding given the the the level of the the quality of the opposition Daniel the history of this fixture as well and what was at stake how close were Liverpool to almost Perfection with that performance very close I mean they controlled the game for for the most part really in terms of you know not conceding too many chances is um the first half you know City didn’t really do much to be honest and then of course daku comes on do a little bit but besides that Liverpool had full control of the game they were threatening runs in behind tenacious attitude they looked like they wanted it and there was that feeling in the stands when you hear the fans roaring and when City you know had moments Liverpool’s fans were like let’s you know get right behind the boys again and the players and how the manager set them up today as well I think was magnificent you had the midfielders pressing all over the pitch they they set the intensity for the team um all around fantastic performance from the players and it was really professional performance as well because you can let it get out of hand and they didn’t they didn’t let that happen I think you expected a reaction from City dard I don’t remember seeing Pep Guardiola reacting quite like that before as he did to to Liverpool fans thinking about him being sacked in the morning no obviously he’s going to be annoyed we we’ve talked about pep uh since he come to the club obviously his first season was difficult you know um was nowhere near winning the league and then he started building that momentum and what city have done over the last couple of years has been has been staggering um I we we did uh the game last week at Spurs and he asked me is it a crisis I said No it’s it’s not a crisis because you know you go into the Champions League game and you think okay you know three and up and then it’s fre and now you come to Liverpool and it’s not just the fact that Liverpool anyone can come to Liverpool and amfield great Stadium fans were exciting and it was like a fortress at times but it’s the way they got beat is for me I I’ve not seen for a while with this city team you can talk about the defense you can talk about Midfield you can talk about attack it’s the collective if you look at the difference between Liverpool and Man City they was all together at times man city was just disjointed didn’t sort of know what they was going to do that s put Rico Lewis on the right obviously we seen him in Midfield and he’s right back by trade you got uh nun is on the left as well so they got into these good opportunities but they couldn’t do anything with it it just feels like everything is a yard off so does it seal in your mind you you talking before the game about if they lose potentially possibly maybe um that means they’re at the tither race no I I I think if you’re looking at the stats if you’re looking at the game you know and you’re analyzing the game it it’s Bleak at at this time too I’m not going to rule them out completely because football is like that but I I can’t see him catching Liverpool at this I think it is a almost a mini crisis for Manchester City and I think it’s reminiscent of Liverpool two years ago and I actually think Man City might have a fight on their R for top four I actually look at Arsenal and Chelsea and the way they’re looking right now I think it’d be difficult for Man City to finish above them if they don’t go into the market in January and I go back a couple of years the season Man City won the treble Liverpool went to the atad I think in about April and got be 4-1 and it could have been six to S got absolutely battered and you you felt like it was almost the end of that jagen club team but what it was it was the end of the Midfield this was Henderson and fabinho at the time and no matter how good a manager you are you can’t fix that I don’t think pep can fix that in terms of Midfield now this has been going on for four or five games he needs to buy players in there now if he can do it in January who knows but may need to wait till the end of the season to fix this because right now I could see Man City maybe losing another four to five games between the end of the season seon and I look at the energy Arsenal have gotten the energy sort of the young players Chelsea have got I think it might be difficult for City to finish above them the Midfield look weak today yeah Midfield is a huge problem the only thing I I would say to that Cara is um the kovage missing kovage as well and we know but he can’t run either no but in terms of the way man city set up when they played in their games they normally dominate possession it’s on transition which we’ve talked about Man City it’s like when you’re playing the top teams now so I still think that’re they’re getting into the top four because they dominate the ball so much they’re not often in these positions where you can get exposed you know but I I think they do need a defensive midfielder personally a defensive minded midfielder when you look at who they have now you’ve got Nunes you’ve got kovic you’ve got gundan the list goes on the majority of those players are attacking minded or control players they’re not ones happens if they don’t get one of those in the context they lost three games last season they’ve lost four on the bounds I don’t believe that they certainly won’t be in the title race if they don’t um in my opinion if they don’t sign a defensive midfielder because you’re conceding chances against teams that wouldn’t typically get chances against what about Jam’s point they could slip out of the Champions League I think that’s a step too far personally I think they’ll I think they’ll be in the Champions League because I think the best players they have will perform they they’re in a they’re in a rout right now they’re not harland’s not Taking Chances players aren’t you know performing to their level but they’ll come a point when it will turn and Harland will be flying and he’ll maybe bang off 10 goals in a row and then we’re like oh they’re back again so you can’t rule them out completely and say no Champions League I think they get in the Champions League but challenge him for a title I think they need a defensive midfielder to do that I just I go back to the Liverpool situ Liverpool finished fifth That season now we know these two teams have been battling for the title for so long but when there’s a lack of energy in there and everyone thinks you’re vulnerable I mean Manchester City finished at one stage in the second half they had Bernardo Silva and Rico Lewis is Central Midfield I mean I mean Bernardo Silva absolutely love I mean what a player he’s not a central Midfield player Rico Lewis is you know a decent player but I mean that that’s no near enough when you when we’re talking about I’m saying could they finish above I don’t think they finish above Arsenal or Chelsea look at what they’ve got in sent to Midfield look at the three Midfield players Chelsea played today look what City we’re looking but thinking no way were Liverpool losing today absolutely not and it wasn’t just their effort they showed great quality and their decision making in terms of possession was excellent so did the first goal come down to decision making did it come down to individual quality in that moment rather than any kind of team shape well again decision making and quality you when you see Trent on the Bon has got time as a defense you’ve got to back off and again we talk about I’ve said before defensively in moments they don’t have that intensity Man City even still very very to make that run and play other people on side I don’t know defensiv I think defensively you hoping it doesn’t go in where the attacking players believe he going to go into that position absolutely you’re talk maybe a separate issue when you’re talking about his Pace that’s being a problem for Kyle Walker since we we fa seeing him but he was that quick not in situations like that because he got caught out in the summer I think maybe three goals against England in the Sumit uh where he gets done at the back post cuz he’s he can P off that’s always been the negative about him you know he has a little look and he just doesn’t look again and gako is brilliant at scoring at the back post but you see has a little look over his right shoulder there and then he doesn’t look again I mean he just switches off there for a second before you know it’s in the back of your net but that that has been a problem throughout Kyle Walker cre and that’s never going to if if if an attacker can see a you know defender’s number he’s in trouble’s he’s not aware what’s around him and Walker for all his experience he’s either unaware what’s around him or he takes the gamble that’s not going to go but the problem he’s got now as a player is that that’s always been a weakness that’s nothing to do with his age but his athleticism would be that good in the game that if he let in a goal like that maybe every five or six games you got to put up with that because he saves us on the Counterattack or he’s bombing forward getting crosses in you’re not getting that side of it now so becomes a bit of a liability for Man City at 1- nil Liverpool were were still having chances into the second half the game it felt like was very much in the balance at that point city were growing into it maybe a little bit in terms of possession then they made the change brought on Darwin nun 6 and a half minutes later he had this impact was that crucial Daniel very much so he was working his sucks off and he causes great position with Liverpool with his contract situation and he’s producing and and what I would give him credit for when when this contract situation is going on with a player and it’s out in it’s out in the open now obviously and people are talking about him criticizing him and saying he’s this or he’s selfish whatever it might be but he’s turning up I think that’s what the the real top players will put that to the side and go I’m still going to produce in the big games and that’s why I take my hat off to him Daniel he’s had some criticism moala he’s he’s been called Selfish for raising the situation around his contract and and seeking out reporters when he he might not normally do that seeking them out which which is which is what he did last week of course down at
