well I guess it’s that time again it’s Luton Town Football coming to ruin our midweek and with me to preview this game against Stoke City under the lights of kennworth road it’s my co-host Mark Ryman hello I’m I’m really struggling to try and think I was sitting as you introducing that I was sitting there going right come on uh something positive something positive something positive I yeah um nope no can’t think of anything at the moment but uh may maybe something will change uh it needs to right it kind of has to um lot to talk about a lot to talk about so let’s dive in to the recap of Lucen Town 1 Swansea one okay so this was an instant classic um one that would live long in the memories of every single Lucen fan uh who all flooded out as soon as the full-time whistle was blown it was freezing it was so cold and the the yeah and the club were just going around the F the players were just going around clapping empty seat pretty much um very few people stayed fair play to the ones that stayed um some people were booing some people were clapping don’t I respect people’s rights to do whatever they want but I don’t understand how you can clap because what the players are showing like some players are showing some Fight Like Jordan Clark is one that I pick out who’s you know he’s on a rough ride this year but he always puts in 100% but the Midfield is just a mess and Kaminsky as well like where would we be with without Thomas Kaminsky would’ be rock bottom bottom it’s a mess it’s a mess and and and Saturday epitomized the mess that we’re in you know same old same old no identity no for I mean back three again um same system that hasn’t worked um you know players look like they don’t know where they’re supposed to be the balls bouncing off them the rain and the wind was terrible but Swansea still managed to play it on the floor um you know we’re getting injuries out of nowhere I mean it’s a mess it’s a mess from top to bottom and I you know I think that the even look we we both but regardless of recording outside of podcast we both had a chat at the start of the season and went this is what we’re this is what I’m worried about this is the the it might go well but I’m really worried it’s going to do this I think this is worse than I thought this this season could be um even in the worst case scenario really is uh and I I have to pick up on those those postmatch comments maybe I’m just nitpicking but I just didn’t like the way that Edwards was talking about the reason why the fans were unhappy is because we weren’t winning if you can’t see the reason why the fans are unhappy then then that that is just as ridiculous as playing Five at the back time and time again the fans aren’t happy because we play with no style we have no fight we have no game management whatsoever and it looks as if that the players and the management staff are clueless about how to change it it’s not the results how many times we sat here on the podcast and said as long as we see some form of a plan or fight you know we’ll be happy um I I don’t know that just maybe it was it was because it was such a crap game but that just really irritated me no if you see fight and desire the result will come uh you know whether they they draws or wins you know um the performance just has to be there and it feels like I hate to say it but it feels like he with the Persistence of playing the back three and the way um he’s setting up the team the way he’s not using the bench we made two subs in that game that were enforced by injury I just feel he’s asking for the sack I I I don’t see any other way around it really at this point yeah I mean the substitutions or lack thereof we had so many creative players on the bench that could have come on and at least try to take the game because I think after that had a bio chance in the second half right at the start of the second half we pretty much didn’t get anywhere near their goal um and you know to not offer anything at home at Kenworth Road I mean this is so far removed from from The Loon of all we we were talking about it in the postmatch and it’s not just the season we went up every season pretty much um in recent history um I can think of as you know at home at least putting in performances probably not since the conference days you know um can I think of us as as having those those kind of just not showing up um but even then we didn’t do that every week at the moment we’re just doing that every game yeah so I’ve actually got some numbers of goals scored so do you know how many goals we’ve scored this season so far no I don’t actually I haven’t had a it I’m not going to guess no I don’t want to guess I don’t want to get it completely wrong it’s not many it’s not it’s not it’s not huge amounts I know that much it it’s not huge amounts uh I’m just trying to find the the numbers that I I put up um so they’re on the the Discord um so this season we have scored 22 goals I’ll just check that actually check those numbers um in the table we we have scored 21 goals pardon me um okay so under Graham Jones ignoring the last um the last Harrah with with Nathan Jones that in the 1920 season we scored 54 goals then the next season finishing mid-table 12th we scored scored 41 goals so under greme Jones we were actually we had more attacking output but and and this was with a vastly inferior Squad whether or not you rate the signings that we brought in it’s chalk and cheese in terms of numbers of what we had what we had under greme Jones and what we have now and that greme Jones team is as dire as it was as poor as he was in the pre-m matches and the post matches in fact I used to my my kid at the time was so young and I used to put on his press conferences to get her to fall asleep and that brings me on to Rob edwards’s press conference from today where he’s just sitting there arms crossed 18 minutes of him arms crossed he couldn’t even be bothered to cross his uncross his arms and I feel it’s gone full circle to greme Jones now there’s a disconnect defensive mode isn’t there um it definitely feels that way um he he’s yeah he he’s obviously lost a lot of the faith of the fans I think the vast majority of fans now don’t see him turning this around the vast majority there are a few hangers on but even if you you know if if you look at it in in any kind of objective reasonable way um there’s no evidence to back it up I would suggest anyone who who is still Robin is doing so out of blind optimism and hope at this point um and he doesn’t fill you with any hope with that that kind of that kind of press I get it that’s probably our worst injury crisis of the season so far um but you know lack of communication on that hasn’t helped you and you don’t like the questions about Ted and mangi well maybe um you need to get your story straight with one another before um before the last press conference if you don’t want the awkward questions Rob I know but that brings us on so professionally thank you very much it brings us on to team news team news ain’t looking too good that’s all I’m GNA say so Alfie Dy he’s out until the new year Ru Walters he’s also out until the new year with with have a broken foot that we didn’t pick up but England picked it up but that’s another story um teda mangi looks like a long-term absentee but we’ll talk about him at the end Amari Bell’s missing Reese Burke is missing Liam Walsh and Shandon Baptist surprise surprise between them they’ve only started 10 games this season between the two of them or is it five I forget I think they’ve only played a part in 10 games this season it’s you’re not going to count that 36 seconds as a part right yeah you’re right you’re right I can’t I can’t I can’t count that that’s that’s mad the Ted m is the talking point here and I I think you got something you want to get off your chest yeah look I I I I think I need to apologize really because I as a lot of fans after the middle school game quite was quite emotional and and it was um I think it’s our postmatch phone in um that I I called out the performance which I think is fair enough and I suggested that it was it was more than just one thing but I also said that Ted and meni shouldn’t put on a luten shirt again um and yeah that’s on me I don’t want to say it’s a mistake I don’t like saying things like it’s a mistake I mean I I did say it on purpose it wasn’t a mistake but I do apologize for it and you kind of learn from these things um particularly so you know I think look yeah it’s clear now um from what’s been been been kind of released not really by the club but by tedan himself that he he’s been been playing with that same near injury that had played him towards the end of last season um so yeah I clearly owe him an apology and and hope he he recovers well soon um but yeah not likely to see him um this season right with with a knee injury um and and it doesn’t look likely at least that we’ll see him until next season if at all of course he might not be at the club though I doubt he’ll be at the club uh although he might have to stay at the club just to sort of build up his Fitness show that he still has it before he can move on what I don’t understand is considering he was advised to have surgery in the summer why not have surgery because at that point it must have been quite a mild thing I’ve had two knee surgeries myself on both knees so essentially it at first I ignored my knee and I just kept going on as normal but the thing is when when you have an injury your biomechanics are all off and before you know it muscles little muscles that you you don’t really think are important they start to atrophy your biomechanics start to change this is the type of thing that the medical staff would have known and the thing is the summer is the time to have a surgical procedure because you have two months out and then he could have missed the first month of football and he could have come back he would have been raring to go and then he could have played himself for a move in January um I respect the fact that he wanted to play through maybe he was playing for a move I don’t know but for me his attitude did kind of change as soon as the the transfer window shut maybe he was waiting for a move and then go have the operation with a a long-term contract at a bigger Club I don’t know but it’s inexcusable from him to not have that surgery um because it’s his career at the end of the day and what happens is wear and tear builds up and he’s probably done even more damage to himself now like if it was like a meniscal tear that you know someone said yeah you’re going to need surgery to repair this whereas now he could have weakened his ACL he could have done his PCL his MCL he could have done a lot more damage to the surrounding ligaments and not just the creamy center that is the meniscus and you you look at that picture of him the amount of Hardware he has on his knee that looks like he’s you know he’s he’s definitely done some sort of cruciate ligament whether it’s ACL PCL or MCL and I’m not saying I’m I’m a medical expert I’m just going based off my experience of delaying a knee surgery until it got way too late I mean yeah agree but I mean what kind of Medical Department leaves it up to a 21y old let’s be honest that is ridiculous all right you can’t force him to have the surgery obviously not but then you say to him well you’re not playing until he do as simple as that you’re under contract I mean there’s that you mentioned Alfie Dy that really annoyed me at the time you know is torn his what is it is ailles is he done Alfie doubt was he’s just done some ankle ligaments no ailles anle ligament sorry then we put straight back on the pitch so we put him back on the pitch for five minutes at the end of a game um he was running we couldn’t yeah he’s running around we couldn’t even spot Royal Walter’s broken foot that took the England Medical Department to do that for us which he’d been playing with who knows how quick he would have been back there’s also the issues of last season mads Anderson that you know the ghost who disappeared for what felt like 20 years after having a slight injury we’ve barely seen him back since um and nber you know wasn’t fit enough to play five minutes for us but then can suddenly do four 0 minutes in a row I I what is going on with our strength conditioning our Medical Department who we you know there is there is C since Elliot there is no strength and conditioning right Madness yeah Madness um it is madness um but looking at the team news I I I put it up on my Twitter before I think it’s got to be a 433 that that is the only way forward and I think the four Defenders should not pass the halfway line no overlapping fullbacks none of that I think Joe Johnson has to start if he’s good enough for England under 19s he’s good enough for us right now instead of playing a a quarter fit mads Anderson which you know mad Anderson from his brief Cameo where he looked like he was running with a parachute in storm Dara he should not be starting just yet I think he needs a few development games to get up to speed he looks like he doesn’t trust his body at the moment and I think Joe Johnson Mt mcginness Tom Holmes Dy hashioka none of them should pass the halfway line be really disciplined you got nber like the same Midfield three and then up front you got to have Jacob Brown Elijah redo or Colton Morris and um and Victor Moses and you got to have Victor Moses as high up as possible where he can actually affect the game we want him attacking their box not defending our box and with a 433 as well it can become a 451 but Victor Moses has to be as far up as possible because at times he looked like he was the only person that was going to do anything in that game um I know we’re we’re touching on the recap for Swansea but he he without doubt he he’s pretty much our best and most creative Outlet now yeah I agree with everything that you said I just don’t see it happening um I don’t know how many times Rob can play the same system and see it not working um and and not change it effectively he seems so reluctant to play that four um yeah I I absolutely I don’t disagree and then you’ve got players like Chong that can come off the bench um or or even start one of those Wing positions but yeah I mean it’s it gives us so many more options going forward as you say and Joe Johnson was someone who you know all right he had he had a terrible game against Burnley namely many players that didn’t um exactly he got done he got done he’s he he was too slow for for kosho well again name me name me some players that aren’t you know it’s is that really the watermark we’ve we had yet we’ve had players that have managed to keep their place in the side despite having week in week out bang average performances it’s crazy Zach Nelson as well I think he needs to he needs to get some minutes he was on the bench wasn’t the last game I think I wouldn’t I wouldn’t mind seeing him starting I think he’s done very little wrong um but yeah I agree I just don’t see it happening tomorrow well today by the time you are all watching this it’s going to be very very telling whether we set up with back three considering all the injuries and the less said about leam Walsh and Shandon Baptist the better I don’t think they’ll go down as the uh as instant classic signings will they um I think they they might get forgotten um especially Liam Walsh who I think was a very much a Rob Edward signing seeing as he’s been a big fan of him from his days of youth football but never mind never mind um shall we have look at some previous encounters oh God do have to yes okay then Ryman said it will be bad how bad is it so if you want to see every single game that Luen town and Stoke have played go check out Hat’s Heritage I’ll put the link in the description below you can see every single game never never before seen pictures never before read match reports loads loads of information every lineup everything’s there and they all link to player profiles for all 1400 plus players that have played for luten town since 1885 but I got fot mob here and this is quite generous for BP mob I have uh five six seven eight nine I have have nine previous encounters what do you think the spread is Ryman nine encounters oh it’s going to be bad I think Stoke have won it six we’ve won maybe two yeah I’m going to go six or five two and then the rest draws so they’ve won five we’ve won two yeah yes well not yes that’s good yeah this is not the game you want when you want to try and Kickstart your season there we go saying that we got to kickart our season once again uh Stoke have had um you know have had our number for large amounts any games in particular that jump out at you you’ve already mentioned Nathan Jones’s last game yeah um yeah a positive one Danny Hilton um getting a goal I think Cameron Jerome and Danny Hilton scoring away from home it’s the only least recently and then of course that Soul Davis tackle they’re the ones that that stand out for me um in a more sort of positive way I guess can you count the soul Davis tackle as positive it’s legendary I don’t know whether it’s positive it’s the greatest tackle in in football it’s it’s still going around the internet today I love Soul Davis who does of course we all love Soul Davis definitely Co we could do with some of that fight now could we um he’ get sent off three times for that um but yeah look I we we haven’t had many good memories but yeah Danny Hilton just the amounts of him coming back under Jones and getting that goal Cameron I think it was Cameron Jerome in that game as well really good goal I think I remember as well it was 2-1 in the end wasn’t it was it Tyrese Campbell that scored an absolute worldy I can’t remember who it was but one of their I’m trying to think of it as Campbell it might not have been Campbell but yeah who scored it goal for them I think it was their Center back of course yeah leis Baker ex L well yeah EXL and youth yeah ex Lut and youth yeah of course it was now I remember yeah make it two1 but yeah that’s the the most recent game I can remers actually getting anything from lots of pretty drab one nil losses in there yeah they they as I said they they’ve had our they’ve had our number for a long long time for me what sticks out is uh not not for the performance so much it was um the last home encounter it was one- nil luten P scored a good goal I took Brian Steen to that game and uh because my my dad’s my dad didn’t go so I brought Brian Steen and he had a great time because everyone was like Bruno Bruno you know it was it was a wonderful wonderful memory for me having taken the legendary Brian Steen to a game absolutely wonderful stuff and it wasn’t the greatest game but P scored a decent enough goal and uh it’s it’s in my memory and anyway um so I was very happy with that I bet yeah yeah yeah amazing but shall we uh should we kick this over to Phil for for his little bit so uh Phil you’re meeting with the opposition are you not take it away Phil thank you very much Olie and Mark um it’s good to good to hear from you guys after the cancelled podcast at the weekend unfortunately just because of my own illness apologies for any regular listeners that look out for us that was all my fault sorry um so today I would usually be doing my opposition preview but um it’s a double game week and sometimes it can be real pain to uh to actually get some people to to come on and we’ve had a few technical difficulties today with with getting someone on um from Stoke City so uh I’m going to do my usual little bit of spill but this bit will be a lot lot shorter than normal so um essentially uh Lut Town coming to the game after a one all draw at home to Swansea uh the reality of it is I think that we need a win um at the weekend I think that to take four points from two home games is acceptable but the reality is also that we need to start picking up points not just at home the home form is the only thing that’s keeping us out of the relegation Zone um truth be told so um yep we need three points this weekend um well we need three points sorry on a Tuesday night never mind the weekend um stok City they’ve got a couple of exceptional players uh they’ve got Tom Cannon um up front who will be sort of leading the leading the press for them and leading the way in terms of trying to score some goals uh they’ve also got the talent of um of kumas um who’s uh the son of of Jason kumas a little bit of a blast from the past for those of you a certain age um Stoke have also arguably got probably one of the best goalkeepers in the uh in the league I think that potentially um Cooper um and to be fair our own Kaminsky I think that the performance against Swansea will highlight to many people that uh if you want Kaminsky to be busy you want him to be shop stopping um because he’s an absolute sensation when it comes to shop stopping so um I’m glad that he had a great game and hopefully he takes a bit of Confidence from his man of the match performance um the problem that we’ve got though obviously is the fact that we’re just we’re just not playing very well um and I’m sure that oi and OE and Mark have have gone gone into detail um in the postmatch phone in and and in this preview and what what’s really worrying is um Lon aren’t particularly nice to watch at the minute and I’m putting myself out there because I think it’s important to sort of have an opinion and I’m not sitting here hoping to hammer anyone I don’t want to absolutely go for for Rob Edwards but there I I’m finding as a real tough watch at the minute it’s uh it feels like after the an international break we we sort of tried to go back to basics a little bit um but ultimately is it just a massive regression like are we just playing really poorly because that’s all we’ve got but that that argument is a little bit null and void because we are better than that we know that we can be better than that we know that we can play play decent football but um it’s just simply not happening and when you look at the the injury record at the minute of who we’re going to be missing we we’re likely to be missing up to seven first team players um on Tuesday night um it’s going to be really really important that the that the crowd and the atmosphere and Kenworth Road under the lights all the the old cliches about coming to Kenworth Road um I’m in this instance we’re actually hosting Stoke City rather than going away on a cold uh Winter’s Night On A Tuesday um to play to play them so we need to make the place hostile um but ultimately as well we it’s a reciprocal thing uh we need the team to to give us something to get behind as as a as a fan base you know and it’s tough at the moment it’s a it’s a really difficult situation to to be infused by us it’s not like we’re losing and we’re get we’re unlucky we’re we’re we we’re not really doing anything and and it’s one of those ones I’m shrugging my shoulders I can’t really articulate fully what the what the situation is and I can’t really understand why it’s so difficult at the minute but um we we just need points we we need to crawl towards that 50 point mark in this league and uh and at the moment it’s a it’s a a struggle to see um three teams worse than us um at the minute and and this is just a disgrace the fact I’m even speaking in that way given where we were um such a short while ago but the likes of pompy the likes of QPR they’re picking up results though I mean they both took 3-0 wins at the weekend and um they’re ultimately at it and they’re fighting for the cause and that’s what we need to do we need to fight for the cause and we need to put up a real battle something that Stoke City themselves are renowned for in the past I mean Arsenal at the moment are getting dubbed as the The Stoke City of the Premier League at the minute because of their their set pieces But ultimately Stoke have always been sort of battle hard and tough tough to beat tough to break down they’ve drawn three of their last four games uh they lost against Sunderland as we did 2-1 um and their last victory came at the start of November but they they battle and and they give it a go and uh it’s certainly not a team that’s going to come away from home and have their tummy tickled you know so it’s going to be a hard one tomorrow um keep your eye out on the social media for the sluga 6 predicted League it’s actually getting quite exciting I’m actually not at the bottom of the table for once which is wonderful um I will be speaking to the guys from uh The Stoke City um podcast and getting their scores and I’ll post it up on our X page uh tomorrow but for now I’ll hand you back over to Mark and Olie and um I’ll be there tomorrow night at Kenworth Road mate uh so Ryman tell me who who is worrying you for this game in The Stoke team I mean I I don’t want this to sound disrespectful but no single person is is is worrying me it’s more more as a team I think that we we might struggle against I guess the couple of players that would stand out is Tom Cannon I think it would be typical wouldn’t it if the if the bloat that we were spending most of the summer trying to get hold of who then went to stoke scores against us um he is very much hitting this um but has scored some pretty excellent goals as well leis kumas looks a player as well um on the wing um again we just we don’t do very well against you know young quite quick Wingers do we so um those two um particularly stand out I mean you’ve mentioned it already and I’m sure you will you know uh Johanson in goal is is absolutely excellent um and and obviously I would probably say that their best player what what assigning he was but yeah I just I just worry about I worry about them you know uh Strangling the life out the game if we don’t do it for them anyway um and and nicking it as a result it’s more that than anything else for me so I I’ve gone I’ve gone for the other Wing I’ve gone bejan ho um like yeah kumas he looks he looks proper bejan ho he’s fast he can whip a ball in and um also we you know I’m very worried about the cutbacks to the edge of the box as we saw against Swansea and you probably saw in that in the Swan cast match preview I gave a play byplay about how Swansea were going to score uh bejon ho you know he could cut that back to manhoff manhoff will whip it in and there’s no coaching from our side there’s no there’s no intuition from the players that they should oh oh maybe I should go and close down th this massive Gap at the edge of the 18 Yard Box sometimes the players need to use their Noggins yeah I mean the fact that the fact that you’ve got a player that can just literally pass it to the edge of your box from a corner um it’s terrifying uh but you’re right I mean cutbacks have been our our downfall for the whole of 2024 right there’s always a player on marked I I lose count of the games where it’s happens um this you know nearly nearly every game it’s either a goal or or or should be um so if if it doesn’t happen in this game it it would be an absolute Miracle yeah you’re right yeah right that leads us on nicely to score predictions yeah I’ve gone for a one nil Stoke win um I can’t think see much changing between Saturday and Tuesday uh I really can’t um stoker team as you say that have our number anyway a lot of the time um we very rarely we very rarely beat them um and it’s always quite tight and we’ve just got no real identity and we don’t look like scoring goals um either so yeah one nil Stoke I’m afraid I see where you’re coming from I really do because yeah Saturday how long would the team have had to prepare for this a day maybe maybe two days um doubt they would have all come in on Sunday I always uh I always drive past the training ground on my way to the brickies on Sunday it didn’t record this Sunday but I doubt would have been any different you know after a poor performance I always expect the players in you know like maybe Rob Edwards would say to them hey you you’ve all been terrible so training first thing Sunday morning be there but they’re never there so they they would have only trained Monday and then they’re not going to be training on Tuesday or they the day off so one day one day to to get their shapes prepared and everything and Stoke obviously present a complete different threat from Swansea I’ve gone optimistic here I thought you’d be the optimistic one I’ve gone optimistic I’ve gone 1 and I think I’m crazy I’m going to be there I’m going to be there freezing my nips off I’m going to wear two pairs of socks and um and I’ll stay after the final whistle to to see what the vibe is after the game I think even if it’s one1 I can’t imagine it well it depends on the performance of course if the performance is good yeah you’re of course yeah um but if it’s not all you know Swansea I think it it doesn’t matter it it won’t be it won’t be there or people as as they were against SW just just won’t be there they’ll have gone um but yeah fair play to you for going um and yeah hopefully um there is still a decent amount of people that that go and and cheer them on um because they will need it so yeah fingers crossed um fingers crossed or something positive fingers crossed indeed but that was it for our big match preview if you’ve enjoyed this subscribe for even
