[Music] the 2024 Major League Baseball winner meetings have come and gone and today I’m going to be reacting to the biggest moves that happened right before and during the 2024 winter meetings now if you don’t know what the winter meetings are this is the big event during the off season where the executives managers agents free agents all converge in one location and try to get as many deals done as possible so there wasn’t a big wave of deals like we’ve seen in the past but there were a lot of very significant deals that we are going to react to today but before we get into that I am Jack laud I am the Major League Baseball analyst here at chat sports thank you so much for taking the time to watch the video if you want more Major League Baseball coverage throughout the entire offseason into the regular season give me a follow on social media I I am at Jack laud on I’m at Jack La MLB on Instagram those links will be down in the comments and description of today’s video I am posting daily content around the latest news rumors signings everything going on in Major League Baseball you can find it all over there on my social media platforms okay let’s get into the biggest signing of the winter meetings obviously that is Juan stto signing the 15-year $765 million deal with the New York Mets at the end of the day it came down to five team team the two New York teams the Boston Red Sox the Toronto Blue Jays and the Los Angeles Dodgers the reports around the Dodgers were that they offered around $600 million so that was never going to take the cake I didn’t really ever think that they were that much of a contender for stto and they didn’t need to be they’re World Series champions they already have a super team I didn’t think that they needed to get stto so they’re okay the Blue Jays I never thought were a contender as well they have very Deep Pockets but their future prospects just aren’t there I didn’t think stto at the end of the day was going to pick Toronto because it wasn’t just the money for stto Soto also cared about the future prospects the farm system a relationship with the owner what the current Major League uh lineup looks like and I didn’t think Toronto had a very good case for landing him in any of those categories so at the end of the day and this is kind of what the reports are is it came down to the final three the two New York teams in the Boston Red Sox and at the end of the day Steve Cohen as we all expected pushed his red button and gave him the biggest deal not only is this worth $765 million there’s a $75 million signing bonus there’s an opt out after the fifth year and there are escalators that can get this deal up to $800 million I think at the end of the day sto is a generational player I think he is the best pure hitter in this generation of baseball and he definitely deserved this back and the Mets get their guy Francisco Lindor and stto is a lethal Duo at the top of the lineup but they’re not done yet I do consider them World Series contenders I mean they took the Dodgers you you know to the length almost in the NLCS this past year and I think that if they go out and make a few more deals if they bolster the rotation if they get some protection for stto and Lindor in the lineup they are instantly going to be contenders in the National League and honestly probably for the World Series as a whole before we move on I want to hear from you guys give me your one-word reaction to the WAN sto signing I did a video on this right as it broke the other night and if you watch that thank you so much and in that video I gave my one word it was bag stto got a bag that he deserved if you look at a lot of you know crazy weird analytics and stats around stto uh you know before his age 26 Season he is in Hall of Fame territory like I’ve already said I think he is the best peer hitter in this generation of baseball and Steve Cohen was going to do everything in his power to make sure that Juan stto wasn’t met that was the of his eye he was absolutely going to make it happen and sure enough juano is a member of the New York Mets the next signing biggest signing that I want to talk about happened right before the winter meeting started and that was Willie adamus agree to a 7-year 182 million deal with the San Francisco Giants I love this deal for the Giants the Giants for a while have had a reputation of not being able to close on big free AG you know obviously we had the arson judge that happened in the they were in on the Otani sweep Stakes as well they’ve never been able to lock down a huge free agent and while adamus is not the biggest free agent of this this class of free agents I really like what he brings to this Giants team I I think it’s it’s one of the best pickups the Giants could have made this off season you put him on the left side of that infield at shortstop his natural position with Matt Chapman at third base you have one of the best left left sides of an infield in all of baseball and if they continue to add on which the rumors are they are with potentially a Corbin Burns and some other free agents this Giants team could quickly become a contender in a very chaotic NL West I I absolutely love this move I think I don’t love it for adamus I think he probably should have waited until stto signed because he probably would have gotten more money in a deal but I think for both sides adamus gets paid he does $182 million is nothing to SCF at and the Giants get a much-need superstar to pair with Matt Chapman on the left side of that infield I think this is a fantastic move and one of the probably most underrated moves that will happen in this off seon next biggest move that happened this happened right after the Juan sto signing all the teams that didn’t sign stto had to quickly pivot and the Yankees made the first big pivot signing Max free to an 8-year $218 million deal the Red Sox and blue jays were both rumored to also be in on Max freed but at the end of the day freed wanted that eth year and the Yankees gave him that eigh year I think Max freed was my favorite starter in this class he is 30 years old so that eight-year you know he’ll be 38 by the time that contract ends but he’s a dominant left-handed pitcher that has shown it time and time again I think pairing him with Garrett Cole is a lethal one-w punch for the Yankees I think the Yankees have a very lethal rotation going into this season I would be scared if I was any team that had to face the Yankees especially if they are at the top of their turn of the rotation with Garrett Cole and Max free I love this move for the Yankees I think that he probably got more than he thought he was going to but after the woto sweep Stakes ended everyone had to Pivot and they had to Pivot fast another move that happened another kind of pivot that happened the Rangers were also a team that was in on Max freed and after freed signed they pivoted and brought back n avaldi on a three-year $75 million deal we know who avaldi is at this point he is dominant he has his best moments when the light shine brightest he is a very solid and consistent starting pitcher and he was a big reason why the Rangers had any success over the past few years uh when Sher and de Gro were going down with injuries evaldi was there picking up the slack and I love this for them I think the Red Sox were also a team that were in on avaldi but at the end of the day I don’t think they were willing to offer enough we will talk about the Red Sox in a second they were a little more occupied with another pitcher that we’ll talk about coming up in a few minutes but avaldi returns with the Rangers he knows them he’s comfortable there I like this for both sides 75 3 years for 75 is a good chunk of money but 25 a year aav is not the end of the world I again really like this for the Rangers I think evaldi gets a bit of a Payday he’s somewhere where he’s comfortable I have no issues with this at all other signings that happened during the winter meetings Michael conforto goes to the Dodgers on a one-year $17 million deal Blake Tran the reliever or returns to the Dodgers on a two-year $22 million deal Jordan Romano goes to the Phillies on a oneyear $8.5 million deal ay Garcia goes to the Blue Jays on a two-year $15 million deal Alex Cobb goes to the Detroit tigers on a one-year deal and Jonathan Losa goes to the Yankees on a one-year deal as well look there’s a lot more deals that are going to be happening and if you want me to cover more of those in video form hit Blue Jays I like that for the Blue Jays uh it was a little bit weird uh they you know I think that jimenez’s a a a future you know he he he is who he is he is a solid Defender um but not that great with the bat so I’m interested to see what the thought process was for the Blue Jays but we’re going to cover the two trades that I absolutely loved in this winter meetings the first one is Garrett crochet this was probably the second biggest news behind Juan soda maybe third behind Max freed um the white sock trade Garrett crochet to the Red Sox in return for four prospects headlining that Prospect package is Kyle teal and Braden Montgomery Kyle teal is one of the top four prospects was one of the top four prospects in the Red Sox system he’s a catcher that uh the Red Sox were very excited about but obviously he is now with the Chicago White Socks brain Montgomery is the first round pick that the Red Sox had this past season from Texas A&M suffered a very brutal ankle injury during the playoffs last year in college but is has a very high upside and is a very good switch hitting back so I think the white sock got exactly what they wanted they wanted some prospects for the future that are going to have an impact and the Red Sox got what they desperately needed they needed a left-handed top of the rotation Ace and that is Garrett crochet now I know what everyone’s going to say croche has not pitched that much as a starter this past year was his first year as a starter he was transitioning from a relief pitcher to a starter but when he pitched he was absolutely electric his stuff is fantastic his K per9 is incredible he gets swing and Miss he gets exactly what the Red Sox are looking for someone with Dynamic pitches that gets a lot of swing and miss that will go long into games I I admittedly as a Red Sox fan love this for both sides I think the Red Sox from the Red Sox perspective they get their front- ofth line Ace without having to sacrifice any major league Talent or any of their top three prospects in Roman Anthony Marcel Meer and Christian Campbell if if any major league Talent or those three prospects had to go I still would have been happy as a Red Sox fan to get crochet but I would have had a little bit of trouble sleeping at night due to the package that would have gone back in return you don’t have to you didn’t have to give any of that away so as a Red Sox fan I love this as a white sock fan I love this as well because you’re getting really solid prospects from a Red Sox system that is absolutely stacked with Talent the next trade that I want to talk about and this trade I think is going to be another one of the most underrated transactions that happens this offse the Marlins trade Jake Berger to the Texas Rangers for three prospects I am very high on Jake berer when I was doing my endof Year Awards he won the Marlins MVP award now it’s not hard to do when the Marlins aren’t that great of a team but berer has a lot of upside he is a young player that has really solid raw power I think he’s going to fit into the Rangers lineup very nicely he’ll probably split time at first base and DH but he is a young power hitter that the Rangers are going to have for a long time a lot of controllable years for him I think this was one of the most underrated moves that has happened so far this off season I think the sky is the limit for Jake berer and now that he is out of a little bit of purgatory with the Miami Marlins he’s going to have an opportunity to really shine again I absolutely love this for the Rangers I think Jake burer is absolutely going to thrive in Texas and again the sky is the limit when it comes to both the Rangers and Jake burer I think the Rangers are going to be better this year uh I don’t think we saw the real Texas Rangers last season um and if they continue to add a few more pieces they can be a threat once again for the playoffs in the AL West all right so where do we stand we’ve gone through the signings we’ve gone through the major trades here are my top eight remaining free agents this off season you’ve got Corbin Burns and Roki Sasaki as the two big name starting pitching free agents Burns has been in discussions with the Giants the Yankees the Blue Jays the Red Sox his decision could be coming within the next few days Roki Sasaki was just posted during the winter meetings he has until January mid January to make his decision and he could go anywhere he’s a real wild card because he will not be able to get a major league contract due to being under the age of 25 he is still considered an amateur Alex bregman is a big name that I think potentially could be the next transaction that happens I know the Red Sox have been a team in the Forefront of this does he go back to the Astros we shall see Pete Alonzo is another option at first base does he go back to the Mets that’s been rumored does he go to the Yankees that’s also been rumored as well teoscar Hernandez and Anthony sandir are two power hitting outfielders that anyone that didn’t get Wan sto is vying for the Red Sox the Blue Jays the Yankees the Dodgers are trying to keep teoscar but santand dere and tar Hernandez are both going to be highly sought after and their markets are starting to heat up Christian Walker has been heavily heavily heavily heavily linked to the New York Yankees to replace Anthony Rizzo so watch out for that one coming down and sha manah another starting pitcher who’s kind of in that mid- tier of free agent starting pitchers that I think has has been rumored to go back to the Mets I would love that for the Mets but I think a lot of pit people as Burns and Sasaki make their decisions he’s going to be highly sought after as well uh as well as a walker beer and a jack flare coming down the pipe as well so before we get out here let me know which free agent do you think signs next personally I think Alex bregman’s Market is heating up very very quickly I was actually surprised that he didn’t sign yesterday on the last day of the winter meetings I know a lot of people are trying to Pivot and sign sign Alex bregman but as of right now it sounds like it’s either going to be the Red Sox or the Astros although you know a mystery team could come out you never know what will happen so let me know Down Below in the comments who do you think signs next in
