welcome to tofy TV it’s a match preview the Boxing Day game this year Manchester City versus Everton and I’ll be honest this has got to be one of the weirdest match previews we’ve done for a while cuz it’s such a like ever Everton are in more in form than Man City and you know not we’re not particularly in form and we’re not particularly that good and yeah it’s mad it’s it’s crazy don’t get me wrong I’m not sitting here going got a got a real chance say it’s not like that but it is such a weird one isn’t it cuz City just seemed to be in free fall and every time you think oh they’ll be all right like a few weeks AG the beig forest didn’t he you like they’ll start picking up now I think they got to draw the week after but they should they should the one I think it was a palace and it’s like every time and then they just and you look you think look at the team and go oh it’s because blah blah blah and you look at team and go no no that’s that’s actually quite good team it’s actually a quite good team it’s I it’s weird isn’t it yeah I mean listen vill beating them wasn’t a shot I thought vill would beat them because but he didn’t lay a glove on V but that’s what that’s the weird thing just the going through when you watch them it’s like the going through the motions which is so strange to see this collection of players with this manager playing the way they are and listen every team can drop off he can have a drop off season and the injuries have hat them you know they get one back and then they lose another one and ston just come back and he’s gone off injured and things like that Harland they’re not giving him chances it’s you know confidence is low I think he got half of his goals in August what he scored so far this season so they’re not creating loads for him had this game been at Goodson I think i’ have fancied Everton which sounds absolutely crazy to say right now I think with it being at theti it’s still it’s I think the problem EV will have in this game is that we’ll do exactly what we did at Arsenal exactly what we did against Chelsea which will give the ball off which we know mean the other day we’ve had 25% possession at home which personally I think is atrocious but that’s the way we play we play sort of on the counter or or trying to gr the result out I think it’s dangerous doing that with Man City at the EAD because they won’t have to worry about a quick break CU we don’t really have any Pace on our team but that being said the managers defensive performance in the last two games of everyone digging in and staying compact I think ever that’ll stand ever in good stad the issue is always with the way we set up is if we go be and they’ll be a real issue but I think defensively we we’ve got the capabilties to frustrate Manchester City who do at the moment just end up side to side with the ball and um we’ll see where we go with it but you know ever might have d m Neil back for that one as well there for the set plays be no I think you’re right I think Man City haven’t been I mean obviously been losing a lot of games but I think the the um possession has been a little bit when I say closer it’s they’re still been like having more possession but it’s been a little bit more a little bit more like 6040 say so I think aan have got to be careful not to as you just said give them too much possession and trying yeah try and get it try and get it to it like it is a like 60 40 game cuz they had at home as up but you know get I think the way to be the way to get something to city is pushed them a little bit just feel like you can and that’s that’s a dangerous game don’t get me wrong with with this Everton team think the last two games are where Everton are sort of they I say at their best against the best teams it’s going it’s defending in in units two units and making sure you don’t give up any space and then there might be a opportunity for a uh for a few chances like we saw in the Chelsea game which you know everon should have scored in you know at least one in that game if not two so you can’t be over reliant on Man City almost passing themselves to death they will get chances and want you know they’ve got so much quality that one only has to rock it in like we’ve seen before we’ve seen like the last couple of years actually where we’ve we’ve been quite tight and then it only takes that one absolute screamer and that changes the game so we still got to be we’ve got to be very very weary but the Manchester City thing it’s it you know you look at the team and we just have look at city’s team now from the game against Villa and it’s still got the likes of well it’s still got Ki had Stones where he got injured uh gundo on cic greish foden Silva Harland I mean still got lots of players guard guardio yeah um Kevin De BR on the bench he wasn’t used nanaki wasn’t used Kyle Walker come on at half time dhu came on later on the game still got so much quality but it’s it’s like it’s like that if all just don’t know the batteries have all just drained at the same time and L like this this um obviously a couple years ago winning the treble must have took so much out of them and last year they they won it but it was only by by five points and they had the little wobble early on before the second half of the season I think the first game back was against those wasn’t after the world club championships but it just feels like the whole team has either got injured or just completely is completely fatigued and and it’s all happened all at the same time and we know the recruitment hasn’t been very good do you think that this is a lesson that see having Harland up front this is a lesson for having a little bit of a different way of playing or having a couple of players that can play that different way and go and you know what we’ve got these players in our Squad and actually if we put them into the team with Harland we can change our style a little bit rather than relying on what we’ve been doing which the Midfield at the moment is I was them against Villa and that Midfield was just invisible without rodri they were getting just walked through all the time was good no no it was but but without rodri and a rogie kind of player the Midfield and the Man City High Line was getting caught so many times and it was just like you’ve got to you’ve got to change something and know pep won’t do that because what he does is very very good but you would think just having a good look at the bench and look at the team going actually a couple of different players in there they could play a different style could play a little bit deeper maybe play on the count attack not rely on passing and passing and passing it’s it’s so strange it is weird because obviously again said this on more than one occasion acutely aware that petuol is one of the greatest not the greatest ever coaches and so sat or sat here telling them how we should be playing sounds absolutely ridiculous but just and just looking at it from an outside you do wonder why a little bit like to the Cog with Spar M you wonder why they don’t abandon the principles a little bit just to cope with certain players being injured that doesn’t mean you go away from that cuz what city have done under Guardiola has being incredible they’re a f they’re still a fantastic team just right now they’re in a tail spin they don’t seem to know a way out of it and he’s looking like he doesn’t know a way out of it is he burn out as it took so much out of him we saw J and klopp leave Liverpool last season I’ll say he was going last season cuz it it just got too much for him is Guardiola suffering the same and results are spinning away from he doesn’t know what to do it’s his worst run he’s ever been in or is it nine defeats and 12 and all competitions or something like that um hav they lost more than ever now or the same as Everton so they lost more haven’t he which is mad um yeah and you do wonder when you look at them why they don’t just I think the best teams dig in at times when things are going a little bit against them and start to ease themselves back into what they do and I don’t think he’s done that yet because they can’t seem to build momentum when he like you said when they be Forest the other week it was like that city they’re back now and you know I watched them against Crystal Palace away and it was like what’s happening here like they should have took Palace to to the cleaners and he didn’t and he would all over the place a little bit and then they obviously lost to Manchester Derby MH you know from winning and you know that 3n up in Europe against fight was fin you know 33 they just no digging in from them yeah and I wonder day listen I’ve joked with James going into this that the way kids after how many days till Santa comes guardiola’s got how many days till Everton come you know what I mean because that’s normally a home win for them but if you Sean D looking at this one it will be about two Banks or four digging in and seeing what they can do and try to make them be slow and ponderous with they passing and make sure there’s no spaces there is a danger to that of course if they get a goal Everton don’t tend to come back but that’s all we can do but they’ve got Everton then they’ve got Leicester away and then they’ve got West Ham at home the next five are easy so if they can’t get pick up some points out of that then that is a genuine they are in a genuine have genuine problems they’ve got like they’ve got like brenford ni switch the next five games they should really better start picking up some points then for us the next five should be 15 points for them from there perspective but I think they’ve lost actually the same amount as us lost the same no it’s it’s just very very strange and you I mean you obviously wouldn’t you don’t abandon your principles as such you just T them don’t you if you’ve got loads of injuries and you look at the players and go we can’t play High Line we’ll drop the line back 10 yards then do you know what I mean it’s like just little things like that doesn’t mean you have to compromise the way you’re playing but you just you just I think I think you’re right I think what it is is they just can’t catch their breath they can’t they really do need to be able to just like stop for for a for a couple of weeks and they can’t but that goes back to what we said loads of times on multiple shows is like you have to then pick and choose your plays and go like when they played in Europe against Juventus and go what they didn’t really have to win that game and yet they put out a strong team and lost it but they didn’t have to win it so it’s like why didn’t you just go right we’re playing a load of bench plays in this and I think sometimes that I’m digging in sometimes that I do think that is a failing of Pep Guardiola of like I have to play my best team every three days it’s like when I think other managers and I’m sure Sean D is one of these managers AG go no you you don’t mate honestly you don’t there are games where you can just play your squad players and I just think pep sort of lost that ability to see that at times because every game but he did used to do that no but I’m saying every game has become so Ultra pressurized pressurized and everything’s on it that it’s like we have to we have to you think because they are in this tail spin at the moment he’s thinking play the best team get a positive result and then that’ll be it we’ll start it what’s happening is they play in that team who maybe aren’t fit yeah they’re not taking still get missing chances they’re missing chances getting done and then like you say you come off the pitch and go that’s that’s a good side and he’ve lost again see if if I’m pepu theola now I’m thinking if you’re not fit you’re not playing because Manchester City cannot win the Premier League but they can win the champions league and they can’t get in the top four so if I was him him now I’d back them off a bit and be like if you’re not fit you’re not playing think they should have used Mak I know he’s not listen you could sit there and argue whether he’s Manchester City quality but I saw him playing in a really poor side last season in the Premier League and doing really well and therefore he’s going to be % he’s going to buzz around not all the time but just use a couple of those plays a bit more I I think there’s two or three plays I look at sometimes you look at city’s bench and you see who didn’t come on like Kevin De Bru sa why didn’t like if he’s not fit maybe he’s going to play against but if he’s not fit why is he on the bench then and I think he’s done that loads of times and I think but he’s done that with like as I said i’ pre i’ repr prioritize what what what he needs to do this season now because he’s not going to win the league and I the only way they win the league they’re not winning not only when they I’m saying the only way they win the league is by first and four months doing exactly what you’ve said sort of accept them a knock on and just start taking it game by game and who knows they could put a run they’ve still got Liverpool theard and all that you start putting the run together you might Whittle away a lead I can’t see it I don’t I don’t see it at all so you’re absolutely right but they can get off four and they can win the Champions League by resetting I every I’ll I’ll have every hair on my b body waxed off if they you won lie a lie listen to win the game and that’ll be the that would be the downfall of them I think pep will watch you selling them out with run a team and I’m not the thing about it is right I I always you can always say this like people can have as much experience as they want in football but it doesn’t mean average football fans or the average man or the average woman the average whatever cons City and go what Paul Linson Linson put a great tackle in and was grabbed twice by Sheamus he was congratulating him you know an overly you know Captain giving him that no listen Sheamus will come and and use all his experience yeah I mean the other change might be might be Jack Harrison Al for the team for Dwight mcneel you imagine Dwight mcneel was at the game on against Chelsea you know so he should be no know but he was all tracked up as in like he was part like he was part of the squad so you imagine maybe he maybe he was just inflamation you know and he’ll be ready for this game so if he is ready do you think they he’ll go on the right and and sorry he’ll go on the left and J go on the right and and yeah he’s not going to he’s not going to take the Cory out no no so there the the Midfield three will be the shame you had to start him on the right he’s not he come in on his left not on though is he cuz that just makes more sense but Sheamus is not going to be bombing up and down the right is he no no but he’s more naturally inclined to going on his on his on his left foot anyway I think he’ll enj be on the right could be he could do what you said I just don’t see it personally on the right I know don’t mean well don’t mean I don’t say it as it won’t happen because it probably will happened but I’m negative like just on this then like on and J cuz I had this conversation yesterday what half I it’s you you can you’ll never see the best of any good play if they’re picking the ball up on the halfway I and until he’s play until he’s playing not until he’s playing 20 yards further forward in whatever position he plays in it doesn’t really matter it doesn’t matter it really doesn’t and this comes down to the manager you can’t where and J picks the ball up is where the fullback should be no but it’s the problem with him right is he’s got no left foot no he isn’t he’s coming inside and the minute the the the pitch is blocked off ahead of him it’s game over it’s he’s very much like do for City when dohu goes on his right foot and checks back you know the left foot cross is weak and that’s what and is andj centrally would cause real issues I think for everybody for everybody but the reason why I’m saying it is I can see more value right now in playing him on the right hand side because at least he can cross it with his right foot or he can run a people I think the he great at running the problem is though the problem is is goes back to what I’ve just said there if he plays on the right and he’s he’s going to the the fullback is going to shepher him out because he’s so deep and that’s he’s too deep he’s he should be playing he should be playing with a string attached to the number nine but he’s not g show saying if mcneel is available and and is available I I don’t mind them man just switching them because I don’t think don’t mind them switching NE will do anything cutting in I think when he’s Center he he creates and he gets shots away but I think on the left at least he can throw right I think with his left and then do the same with I just think off the right he could find that pocket that he likes playing in when he play I just think it’s I half of those goals in August which means he’s not at the level people are catching up to him he chis wood and big Chris Wood I mean you did say you’d love to see Chris Wood in the city I did say that cuz I think Chris Wood is like is a good player why don’t they like again looking at this we’ve talked about it on but he’s doing too well now so actually’ have to be full in full in City sh that’s but it’s it’s the wrong City it’s got to be the the proper City not this city if you’re going to do things if you going to say I’m going to win the league then you’ve got it you should be able to do whatsoever but what I’m thinking is is just it could be giving them too much of the like I said before giving them almost too well not almost giving them too much of the ball where where which is where normally where we go we’re fine with that it actually might be counterproductive in this game just because of where Man City are I don’t know I don’t know it’s that’s what I’m saying it’s so difficult I think when United played them it was almost like Rope A Dope like don’t get me wrong man united man united like couldn’t have got two uh two biger opportunity gifted to them yeah United didn’t win it did was and I think this is really relevant is stay in the game no matter what stay in the game this city team will give us a chance they will give us at least one or two chances there’s a soft underbelly day at the moment and they will give us a chance so even if we went behind don’t don’t just don’t throw your principles out sure though at United what happened he went behind and that was it we done all right for the open half an hour we can’t do that again CU these will punish you you got it yeah got still Any Man City fan watching still a fantastic side we’re not sitting friend it’s all about is it is Christmas spirit well you could watch the horse the fox the boy and the Bader I don’t know Stickman all of them Stickman a Bel not Christmas bu a Bel sounds a bit of a thin plot thin plot you know the I didn’t say the stick was thin no sticks are thin otherwise people wouldn’t go you stick God your stick in after You’ just had some kind of the needle anyway we digress you digress we digress it is Merry Christmas that’s all I’m saying Merry Christmas and we hope that nobody gives you a CO Palmer celebration for Christmas cuz you’d have pay for it you would that is correct that is correct there you go he’s changed since he left Man City he has changed he has changed I don’t know in what way but um yeah there you go Merry Christmas hopefully the toughies get something from thead feel happy Christmas
