๐ต๏ธโโ๏ธ Transcript:
you may have already seen it in the past couple of days but there’s a lot of steam between the Mariners and the Cubs and the possibility of making a trade at the MLB winter meetings is all the GMS get Under One Roof starting on Monday now if you hadn’t heard there was a possible three- team deal here announced by Jacob zenola over on Twitter now Jacob said several sources have indicated that the Chicago Cubs are currently in active negotiations with the white socks and Mariners on a potential three team trade nothing is imminent but the winter meetings in Dallas could push it across the Finish Line Jacob goes on to say that my assumption is that Southpaw Garrett crochet would head to Chicago Nico her to Seattle and Prospects in return to the white socks other players could be involved just a vague idea for framework obviously Nico hoer would be the Mariner second baseman in 2025 he’s making about $1 million this year and next in 2026 so yeah it makes a little bit of sense and the Mariners the reason that this was happening in the first place is because the Cubs want Major League assets in return and the Mariners don’t really have that or are not willing to give up their starting pitching assets that the Cubs desperately want so because of that the Cubs and Mariners roped in the Chicago White Socks for the Cubs to try to get one of the best pitchers in all of baseball in Garrett crochet now just follow along with me on the timeline here because in this deal not only were the marners going to end up getting Nico Herer while trading Cole Young to I believe the white socks in this deal but they were also going to get first baseman Andrew vaugh from the Chicago White Socks reported here It is believed that the white socks offered a situation where Andrew vaugh would be included in the package to Seattle along with Cubs infielder Nico Herer to get the necessary return desired for Garrett crochet so in this deal the Mayers need to get a little bit more back for what they’re sending to the Chicago White Socks meaning it’s probably one of the top prospects whether that be Cole Young or LZ Montes or whoever it might have been and so they were talking about getting Andrew vaugh back in this deal now vaugh has not been a good player we’ll go over his statistics now in his four-year career V’s only put up a 1.1 War he is 27 in 2025 he put up a 0.2 war in 2024 where he hit 246 297 402 with a 699 Ops and an Ops plus of 99 his worst full year in the big leagues however one thing the Von does exceptionally well is hit left-handed pitching as you can see he’s a career 270 335 436 hitter with a 771 Ops compared to being a 247 302 408 hitter versus right-handed pitching his Ops plus is 113 versus lefties compared to 96 versus right-handed pitching so in that deal obviously Andrew vaugh is not a huge piece however he is probably a right-handed platoon for Luke rley over at first base but it was then rumored that this trade fell through Jacob who reported this in the first place said while the three teams trade fell through as almost all of them do the Cub’s interest in Garrett croche is legit a two- team trade is way easier than three now obviously in that deal the Mariners are kind of the ones left without a dance partner because the Cubs and the white socks would be making that trade for Garrett crochet the Cubs have plenty of prospects to get that done that are relatively close to the big leagues so it did just make a little bit more sense but that is not where this stops also one thing that’s interesting to note here from Max Ellingson the Mariners land a third pick of the comp round a for 2025 it should provide them plenty of opportunity for Scott Hunter and Co to nail yet another draft and restock a potentially depleted Farm I do just want to mention that those comound picks are tradable so that’s another asset the Mariners could have traded to the white socks in this deal that would have helped the White Sox quite a bit because obviously they want to restock and get younger players and kind of rebuild a little bit that’s a very very valuable pick for the Mayors to have to potentially be able to trade so just keep that in mind of this deal which is why I think that a trade with the White Sox Cubs and Mariners did make a lot of sense but obviously maybe the white sock didn’t like all the prospects they were getting back or maybe the Mariners didn’t like Andrew vaugh whereas the white so trying to throw him in there who knows doesn’t matter and before I move on to the next trade that was proposed between the Mariners and cubs I do want to mention that we’re going to be doing a charity stream coming up on a week from today on December 14th that is Saturday where me Joe Jake from raise the Trident and a few other Mariners content creators are going to be trying to raise money for the toys for kids drive that Rick Riz does and we’re going to be doing all of this with some cool rewards for you guys if we reach $1,000 donated Jake is going to be giving away a Julie Rodriguez 2023 tops Chrome silver refractor graded at a 9.5 if we reach $2,000 we’re going to be giving away two tickets to any Mariners value game for 2025 if we reach $2,500 we’re all going to be eating a habanero pepper and if we reach $5,000 Jake is going to shave his beard which allegedly he has not done in like the better part of a decade could you imagine that guy without a beard I can’t again this is the see us give charity stream for the toys for kids drive that Rick Riz runs every single year to get us in the Christmas spirit this all starts at 600 p.m. Pacific Time on December 14th which is a week from today so be sure to be there and if you guys do have any funds to give it would really mean a lot to us if you guys were able to donate to this cause and help us make sure that all the kids in Seattle are having a great Christmas so it was in reported that the Cubs are determined to trade either seya Suzuki or Cody Bellinger per Joel Sherman and mainly Cody Bellinger is a guy that we’ve talked about a lot so much so that it was reported on MLB trade rumors that the Yankees Astros and Mariners have spoken to the Cubs about Cody Bellinger now I made a video probably about a week week and a half ago talking about why Cody Bellinger is a pretty good fit for the Mariners over at first base the problem of course is the contract that he has owed like 27 million or something like that in 2025 with a player opt out at the end of the season so at the least you’re getting Cody Bellinger for what like $27 million but he also has a $25 million player option that he could opt into for 202 six so if Cody Bellinger is bad in 25 he could pick up that player option and you’d be stuck with him for the next year unless the Mayers exercise their 5 million buyout in which case the total comes around $30 million owed to Bellinger in 2025 now we know the mar have like what6 million dollars to spend so that doesn’t really make a whole lot of sense unless they were to make a trade of Luis Castillo we know that the Cubs are looking for starting pitching that’s why they want to go out and get Garrett crochet but David Kaplan went on to his YouTube channel and talked about this trade a little bit and it was reported in there and Cody delmendo thank you so much for posting this cap says the Cubs called Seattle interested in Luis Castillo got to believe Cody Bellinger was part of these discussions so an interesting fit there Luis Castillo and Cody Bellinger I think that the Cubs would have to give up more than just Cody Bellinger in this deal because a Castillo’s value has only gone up over the past few weeks as all of the midmarket starting pitchers have come off the board for a hell of a lot of money Cody Bellinger is coming off an okay year but not a great year obviously the Mayers are also interested in Nico Herer there could be a major trade involved in here somewhere where like Luis Castillo and like Mitch Garver go to the Cubs along with gosh I don’t even know maybe a prospector to for Cody Bellinger and Nico Herer I think there’s a realm of possibility where that happens but then things just get way too out of hand so mainly just going to talk about Castillo for Bellinger straight up here Castillo is making about $3 million or so less than Cody Bellinger in 2025 so obviously the Mayers would be taking on a little bit extra money which is why they may want another piece in return also in my opinion Bellinger has just not been as worth the contract as Castillo has been based on where the market is at right now let’s delve into Bellinger’s numbers a little bit we’ve talked about it a lot recently so I don’t want to get too far into it but let’s take a look in 2024 Bellinger hit 266 325 426 with a 111 Ops plus with 18 homers 78 RBI and only nine stolen bags this year he only played in 130 games but his strikeout rate has always been really low in his career he Strikes Out Below League average but more recently 15.6 the last two seasons 15.6% is well below League average now Bellinger would probably fill in for you over at first base he’s basically been a gold glove Defender out in center field but for the Mariners he makes a lot more sense at first base and in this deal if you’re just doing one for one Castillo for Bellinger I think I want a little bit more in that deal obviously Castillo is relatively in the decline of his career not to say that he’s been bad but he’s just clearly probably going to be declining over the next few years and Bellinger he had a few really bad years there with the Dodgers that got him released by that team and so it’s a very interesting deal but the Mariners need offense the Cubs need pitching the Cubs want to get out from under Bellinger’s contract the hard part is is Bellinger is only under contract for you could literally It could only be this year whereas Castillo is under contract for a couple more years and Castillo also has a no trade clause this season so he would have to wave that for the Mariners to be able to trade him which is also a whole another bag of worms here now there’s always the possibility that this trade does get bigger cuz the Mariners are interested in Nico Herer so a deal that brings Nico horer and Cody Bellinger over would add we’ll call it almost $40 million to payroll so the Mariners would have to cut payroll in some way there of course starting with Luis Castillo who’s making the most money on their roster right now but you’d probably have to add even more there so that’s why that deal gets a little bit muddy there was rumors that the Cubs were interested in a Nico Herer for Brian woo swap obviously the Cubs would need to throw in a lot more than just niik Herer there but just something to watch out for over the next couple of days there’s some real Merit to these rumors I mean locked on said that they even heard from some credible sources that there was some Merit to these rumors and as more pitchers start to fall off the board over the next few weeks especially as we get to the winter meetings there’s a good chance that the Mariners may be hit with an offer that they cannot refuse when it comes to trading one of their starting pitchers let me know in the comments down below if you guys want to see Cody Bellinger or Nico Herer become a mariner I appreciate you guys watching this one and go Mariners
