really good really really good Marquette is coming off a loss to Iowa State Wisconsin’s coming off a loss to Michigan so not only are both teams playing above the expectations this season both need a win to keep that going so Connor big picture looking at this game what what are you most looking forward to watching in this one I think it’s how Wisconsin can handle the defensive pressure of Marquette because I don’t necessarily think that they’ve seen that much this this year um we saw Marquette they they went up against Purdue in that win against Purdue they they forced Braden Smith to beat them yep they put a lot of pressure on him they made it difficult for him to rely on the other players on that team um there was a lot of like lack of movement in terms of Swing passes and stuff to maybe get a better shot that didn’t come off the hands of Braden Smith for an assist uh against Iowa State Iowa State in that loss they you know you put pressure Iowa State can also pressure you but Iowa state has multiple good ball handlers desan Gilbert Tim and L lipy like they can throw more guards at you that can make plays so you can’t just sell out to stop one I think the the blessing in the curse for Wisconson is that their best playmaker for others is their Center yeah so I think it’s going to be an interest like how does how does Marquette deal with the size and playmaking ability of Stephen crra but also how does how do these guards in the back court Max kmet John T deal with the Kamari McGee deal with the pressure from from Marquette because I think that Marquette is one of the best teams in the country a because they have one of the top two players in the country right now but also because they put so much pressure on you with their defense that it makes it very difficult for guards to make plays I think that can help I think Wisconsin having Crow can only help them but you’re still going to have to get solid play with low turnovers like usually happens from guys like ton and kman MH Wisconsin is top 10 in the country in turnover rate they have not done that but kind of to your point they haven’t really been tested against a defense like Marquette that gets underneath you Michigan does a little bit of that not a ton but is able to match up with Wisconsin physically Wisconsin ended that game with more turnovers than assists and marquette’s only going to ramp that up so that is certainly a concern for Wisconsin on the Marquette side of things no shame in going to ases and losing to this Iowa State team especially when you put forth the effort that they did game was tied at 61 in the second half what does Marquette have to do in this one to to bounce back and and get the win at home um Ben gold has to continue to prove that he is a a threat to score like my my issue with Ben gold can stretch the floor and I don’t necessarily expect him to be an interior threat in this game but offensively he has to do just enough to make sure that the guards for Marquette have space to like cam Jones and stuff have space to do what they need to do also defensively he needs to figure out like I don’t know how he stops crra yeah like that’s to me if marqu or if Wisconsin wins this game there’s a good chance that we’re talking about like oh Stephen crra might have a near triple double that’s just how important he’ll be there is a I think a Stephen crra game in there somewhere he has not performed up to the level he was at last year at times from a scoring standpoint but as you mentioned Wisconsin has utilized his playmaking he’s got the size to get the rebounds certainly um he’s he’s average a pretty good number of those the scoring’s got it like the efficiency in the post has to improve and just around the basket but that’s something that could come against Marquette team that for as good as they’re on their perimeter don’t have the size right don’t have the size I’m interested in this from this perspective Connor because cam Jones you talk about him being one of the two best players in the country I think he’s up there with the national you know front runner for National Player of the Year him and ji broom but he went up and against another one last game and Kean Gilbert and Kean Gilbert outplayed him now you’re going into a matchup where John Toni’s had a huge start to the season for Wisconsin just individually match up John Toni versus cam Jones who do you like more in that match up and why I think in this game I like cam Jones more I think that the the thing about the Marquette Iowa State game is that I Iowa State Defense was more of the reason why kesan Gilbert was more successful than cam Jones than I think kesan Gilbert being better than cam Jones if that makes sense like you’re going to go up against because they have multiple guards that can make life hell for you Iowa state does and whether one of these players you know if Cam Jones had outplayed Kean Gilbert I probably would have said the same thing about marquette’s defense it’s just really difficult to play against these two defenses and so it takes a really special effort uh maybe a little bit of luck too to actually have a good offensive showing I don’t necessarily think I feel the same way about Wisconsin’s defense so given that given that Toni has to go up against Marquette and their defense and cam Jones doesn’t I think I’ll take I mean I’ll obviously take cam Jones um I still think he’s a top three pick for National Player of the Year as he’s playing right now even with the Iowa State game uh he still finished that game with a near double double yeah he was like one assist and four or one assist and two rebounds off of a triple double in that game so with only two turnovers like it his his issues came scoring the ball which I’m not necessarily going to hold that against him because that same day uh or no I guess the next day we saw Dean Harris take 21 shots so but uh like if if you were to ask me who’s the better player is C Jones both ways yes uh I like joh Toni I think that his scoring output is something that is that can hold he was a really efficient scorer for Colorado shooting three-point shooting wasn’t quite there but he was able to attack like he’s been for Wisconsin I just think that marquette’s defense creates so much Havoc that it might be difficult for Wisconsin to get poni started yeah I’m I’m interested to see that matchup um for a couple reasons number one Toni the his last healthy year because this past year at Missouri he only played a handful of games for the foot injury had him out he was in a really really solid number two next to Isaiah Stevens for Colorado State in that year Post David Rody and the the question around him that he somewhat answered that season was if he could handle toughness and physicality for imposing defenses that was kind of the book on him he’s answered that this season so far but I don’t think anybody is going to or has played as physical with him as Marquette projects to right and from the cam Jones side of things talked about this before the Iowa State game he cam Jones has a higher assist rate than T kok did last year like part of the reason why cam Jones is the national player Le conversation and we’re talking about him the way that we are is he has added that level of playmaking to his scoring ability Iowa State in their last game basically said you’re going to be a playmaker or a scorer but you’re not going to be both and they decided to make him a passer and focused on taking his scoring away and marquette’s offense struggled because of it I don’t think Wisconsin has the Personnel to do the same kind of thing that Iowa state does but I am intrigued to see how Wisconsin handles that knowing that that was successful in the in the last matchup little note too here Greg guard is five and three against Marquette in his career just a little note there just a little note um Greg guard man Greg guard is I’ve flipped almost completely 180 on guard like I wasn’t necessarily bought in early but the seasons he can put together after off seasons and preseason where you’re like man this Wisconsin team’s just not it he is the living embodiment of the he just can’t keep getting away with this meme right um we came into this season and and every year I use Wisconsin as like if you’re better than Wisconsin you have a shot if you’re worse than Wisconsin you don’t but like every year it’s like oh if you’re better than Wisconsin and this is to make the tournament but now it’s like if you’re better than Wisconsin oh you’re you could be a second weekend team yeah absolutely absolutely however Marquette is projected to win this game by eight points on kenpom they are at home this is the time where against Purdue there’s a there’s a lot to deal with yeah these games are always well I say always for the most part tighter than expected did just with the Rivalry aspect of things I think Wisconsin will cover the eight-point number but Marquette wins the give me Marquette 83 to 78 somewhere in that range even and they may even have a comfortable lead from dur the game and Wisconsin makes his herge late hits a couple buckets kind of back door this thing but yeah I I think Marquette is correctly favored in this game you can guess the line but I think we be in for a tight game a fun game
