of the day so let’s get started right away here with the big name in this Prospect pool uh the name that put uh the Philadelphia Flyers and our top five of prospect plls in the NHL at the start of the Season mattf mitkov he is up to 27 points and 31 games in his rookie season 11 goals and 16 assists for the Flyers this season he’s second on the team in points only behind Travis kkny who’s at 37 and 33 uh but yeah mattf mov has been absolutely phenomenal this year and it comes to no surprise to anyone who’s watched him at any level he’s an opportunistic scorer with highend with a high end release and really really sound offensive IQ uh he’s able to anticipate play incredibly well kind of sneak behind coverage find pockets of space from which he can kind of break out and get a shot off um his playmaking game continues to expand he gets more and more comfortable uh you know hitting seams uh making transition passes really accurately with every passing game it just gets more and more comfortable in that area just a phenomenal score a phenomenal offive player he remains a prospect who uh will still sacrifice defense for offense um on some occasions but he’s gotten a lot better at playing inside structure at becoming an effective um tactical player rather than just being a um an outlier in terms of tactical structures usually what we’ve seen from him uh in his draft year and in his draft plus one in SOI was mainly a prospect who breaks away from structures in order to create he’ll jump the Zone on breakouts um get a ton of break aways because he’s really good at anticipating where the Puck’s going to end up how his teammates are going to break it out and kind of exploiting that he’s still doing that to a certain extent this year but he’s also playing really well in size structure in all three zones he’s able to um play as an F1 or an F3 he’s able to um kind of play a versatile amount of uh a versatile kind of array of of positions in the offensive zone and that’s really what’s made him stand out so far uh this season as a uh as a forward as a goal scoring forward um very very effective Around the Net he remains one of the best scorers six feet around the net um you know in the prospect world uh he’s even gotten kind of for in my opinion in the top 10 among Pro among players in the NHL at scoring six feet Around the Net find finding small ways to beat genders in tight he’s very very good at that that has translated seamlessly to the NHL game so yeah 27 points in 31 games is no knock at all he’s a phenomenal Prospect but um given the level of play the mlin celebrini and Lan Hutson have showed he’s got some high-end competition at the top end of the uh Calder scoring race I think celebrini takes that award so far um you know based on his level of play he’s been phenomenal in all three zones playing centered Topline Center on a um on a bad team and still producing incredibly well uh but m mishk kov is phenomenal as well uh we are very much um well we are we are in a great position in the prospects World here when it comes to the prospects that are uh playing their first season at the NHL it’s very rare that we have three prospects of the quality of celebrini Hudson and mitkov um playing the rookie Seasons all the same time it’s been a treat to watch so far this year and uh yeah phenomenal player the Flyers did a great job of picking him there at seventh overall he’s going to be a star uh but moving on to some other prospects that are um still considered uh you know prospects and are playing some decent NHL games this year Tyson Forester is at the top of that list um 14 points in 32 games so not the highest level of production um but he’s still he’s finding his game you know he’s pretty limited to a power to a power forward role um eight goals six assists this season he’s still you know driving that drop on the shoulder doing all the uh the things that you expect from power forwards but um he’s pretty Limited in terms of what he’s able to bring outside of that uh I think that’s been the main kind of hurdle of the season but still 14 points in 32 games isn’t all that bad and uh he should be able to kind of find his footing in the NHL and slowly but surely becom a Mainstay in an NHL lineup I think at the top of his game we’re talking about a 25g goal 50o player um but that’s still decent value there for the Flyers especially that you know his his development so far hasn’t been the most concrete it has been a bit Rocky over the past couple years I’m really glad to see Tyson Forester finally kind of fighting his footing and being an NHL player and a Bonafide one at that uh we also need to talk about Jamie drale um drale season has been kind of on and off um not really the best level of production he’s only played 21 games this season five points in that in that span um with dry still I think the main issue has always been kind of the defensive aspect of the game he’s always been a phenomenal offensive player but he’s not really getting a lot of um a lot of reps on the top power play um you know Travis sanheim is basically stolen that spot from everyone else his progression has been phenomenal and basically came out of nowhere um but yeah that’s kind of left jamy d a little bit down the lineup um again not playing regular minutes uh and for a player of his age I think it’s essential for him to get as many regular minutes as he can if he can spend some time down in the AHL if he’s still eligible that kind of thing that’d be something I’d be looking at if I’m the Flyers um the the trade for gardi was a bit rushed I think they had to find a prospect who would would fit inside their kns they needed right shot defenseman who could play on the power play Jamie drale fit that pretty well but so far the the the transition over to the Flyers hasn’t been the the most ideal one for him um but I’m not too worried at the same time he’s still phenomenally phenomenal offensively and a great great skater that combination usually finds a way to be productive I think if he can get better on breakouts show a bit more composure under pressure and the ability to handle physical scenarios I think that’ll kind of boost this game a ton because that’s always the hurdle when it comes to mobile offensive defenseman is how do you handle retrievals how do you handle plays where your back is to the player where you don’t have everything in front of you where you have to make split decisions retrievals are a great example of that so if D can get better with that I think he’s in a good position we also need to talk about uh Emil Andre who’s uh uh split the season a tiny bit here between the NHL and the AHL but uh played a decent amount of games 20 games with the Philadelphia Flyers five points for him in that span um Andre’s in the same boat as dve um mobile offensively gifted I think it’s a slight bit better defensively um but at the same time there’s only so much you can do with the frame that he has I think that you know both him and Dil have the same kind of hurdles retrievals physical scenarios foreing um pressure all that stuff are going to be things are going to need to learn to handle in order to be more effective defenseman uh but regardless with the two of them I think you’ve got at least uh a decent pair of of top six defensemen lastly let’s talk about Alexi kosov uh who played eight who’s played eight games so far this season with the Philadelphia Flyers 878 safe percentage the Flyers problem has always been in the crease um I can’t remember the last time they had a decent a really Bonafide uh skillful goenda it’s been a threeway tie for them in goal between Samuel ericon uh Alexi kosov obviously and Ivon fatov neither one of them has a save percentage above 900 that’s going to be the main issue for them moving forward but Co is a pretty interesting Young [Music] goenda born he was drafted in the uh third round in the 2021 NHL draft um put up some decent numbers last year with Dina msk in the KHL 907 save percentage uh played a couple games really high value didn’t produce all too well now this season pretty much by default is up in the NHL but it’s not really going the best for him either so you know hopefully things uh you know the the ship gets wred on that side but uh for for an average Siz goal at 6 foot 6’1 um he does have the mobility he does have the the footwork in order to get to post to post and make saves but uh he needs to show a bit more technical ability a bit more composure in net in order to be a more effective net minder but that’s our first segment done we’ll get into our second segment here where we talk about the Lehigh Valley Phantoms and the prospects that the s that the Philadelphia Flyers have in their HL system we’ll talk about s Mala um hell G GRS and a couple more prospects here in just a sec but just before a quick word from our sponsor at prize picks today’s our second segment here we’ll be talking about the prospects in the leehigh Valley Phantoms uh AHL team there for the Philadelphia Flyers we have a couple names to highlight here first and foremost I want to talk about Helga gron who’s actually actually got his NHL start uh this season with the Flyers scored an assist in six games uh and for the Lei valy Phantoms he’s been decent eight points and 21 games with Helo gr you’ve got a another mobile Swedish defenseman I don’t know what they put in the water in Sweden but their defenseman are incredible skaters it seems he’s 22 6’3 205 pound right shot defenseman um you know the the Blue Line activation from Helga gron is great he’s able to move post to he’s able to move uh side to side at the Blue Line really effectively to kind of open up shooting Lanes um but he’s also able to activate off of the Blue Line get into the offensive zone um you know go to the dots create that way that kind of thing that’s been a fairly interesting development in his game um great progression from him since last year we had eight point in 56 games now he’s got eight points in 51 for the Phantoms um the defensive game is uh pretty solid he’s able to read structures really well um he’s a great passer from the blue line as well and on the breakout which helps his game a ton um but I think really composure Poise uh knowing when to be aggressive when to hold down uh the blue line that kind of stuff is going to be key for his development moving forward uh I still think he’s an NHL when all said and done you know at 22 to be able to handle play the way he does is pretty interesting uh and I think that he’s going to be able to develop into a Bonafide and nhel maybe not a top end guy not a top four defenseman but he’s going to be a steady uh third pair defenseman in my opinion for years to come he’s got the skill set for it now obviously with defenseman you always give him a bit more time before kind of drawing conclusions on him so I don’t want to ride him out completely out of a top four role um a lot of defenseman tend to bloom late and kind of develop later on in their careers we’re talking 23 24 25 years old we’ve seen it with Travis S sanheim I honestly never really thought he is going to be uh the type of defenseman he is right now he’s looking like a Bonafide top pair defenseman in Philadelphia right now so never never write off uh defenseman you never know what’s going to happen with their progression I think that uh hel gron still has a bit of development left in the tank um but more likely than not if in terms of immediate impact in the next three three four years I’m thinking bottom pair defenseman but if he gets into a second pair role improves his composure his poison breakouts uh gets more experience he might surprise a couple people we also need to talk about Samu tuala uh tala has been phenomenal so far this year forther they have Ali Phantoms he’s he leaves the team in points right now with 20 and 25 games um minus 15 uh which I think is bottom of the entire team uh indeed it is uh but overall toala it’s the pace it’s the playmaking skill that still stands out with him he’s got insane speed um you know just he’s able to get up the ice of crossovers incredibly effectively uh he puts defensemen on their heels uh get you know pushes back defensive structures with that speed and transition um and he’s got a really accurate shot as well that’s really he stood out so far this year um his playmaking skill continues to improve he continues to add layers of deception manipulation into his passing game he’s gotten really comfortable on the power play for the Phantoms as well so really interesting prospect on that side um and I I really think that you know among the prospects that they have in the AHL Tumalo is are most likely to get a call up sometime this year uh he’s been great this year and I’m really curious to see how he his development continues because uh a year or two out of his draft year he seemed a bit disappointing his production really wasn’t standing out in Liga um which relatively is a pretty easy League to put up points in um as a young player but tuala wasn’t able to get that done but now so far he’s been great for the Leah have Valley Phantoms he’s finding his game in the AHL getting more physical more involved on the four Che uh which bodess well for his game because with that speed you need to be able to be effective on the four Che otherwise you’re just skating up and down the ice which isn’t ideal but he’s using speed to get to lose pucks first to rip pucks off the boards to create chances that way it’s been very very interesting to watch so far for him um also we need to talk about Ethan Samson who’s been pretty interesting there as a defenseman that was drafted uh by the Philadelphia Flyers if you look at his production uh 10 points and 25ish games for Samson um and four goals six assists in that span minus 14 as well so he’s up there with some of the worst on the team but I think that has a lot to do with usage rather than um rather than his actual play uh he’s been pretty reliable from the Blue Line there for the Phantoms um pretty effective in all three zones he’s really good on the breakout um his his game is really kind of centered around retrievals and breakouts really that’s kind of the the the Crux of what makes him effective there he’s a six foot one right shot defenseman uh the Flyers do need right shot defenseman in their system as well and Samson has been developing fairly well for them uh so I think that there’s a chance that we see him in the NHL soon um maybe not this year perhaps the next but for a 21-year-old is progression so far in the has been decent and there weren’t really many signs that we’re going to see a major major Improvement in that side I mean sure he scored 60 points in 60 games with the Prince George cougars in the 2022 23 season but the year after that he only had 12 points in 63 games with the Phantoms and now this year uh he’s up this production already he’s already two point shy of his total from last year uh with a good 35 40ish games left on the season so great progression from him over the years I’m curious to see what he becomes I I really don’t have really much of a grasp on what type of player we’re expecting him to be but uh very very interesting player with a couple of key Specialties breakouts retrievals those are key elements of the NHL game and he handles them pretty well so far at his age lastly I want to talk about Alexis j a 20-year-old undersized Winger who’s been up fairly decent since getting uh called up to the AHL from the qmjhl um had a decent qmjhl career started off with BL B then moved over to gatso and then um played half season with Lea Valley Phantoms last year before being sent down to the que again this time playing with d vid and helping them win a championship he was a key player for them uh in that Championship run and so far this year he’s got n nine points in 19 games uh in the in the AHL six goals and three assists um very effective kind of Speedy quick offense type of player um he gets to puck in small areas and just accelerates into tight spaces and make makes these small Puck touches work which is great for his size you know you don’t want a a 5 foot n Prospect who hangs on to the puck for too long cuz that opens him up for injuries and makes him a bit less effective um but he’s really good at playing quick given and goes really good off Puck Instinct he’s able to get open in tight spaces and kind of create that way so I really like his progression um I think that Jean has a decent chance of being an effective any sheller um if he continues to develop on that off buuck Instinct game and kind of build his game around that really really good for his career just kind of improving that anticipation even further kind of making that the the central focus of his game um I really like these small Speedy is offensive forwards uh who were able to create in tight spaces that’s exactly what joh brings to the game I’ve been following this kid for for a decent while and I’ve always been pretty impressed with the way that he plays so him you know the Flyers picking him in the seventh round a 220th overall in the 2022 NHL draft that is great value um to to find these kids and you know when it comes to qmjhl Fords undersiz Q jhl Fords who are you know producing decently but not overwhelmingly they rarely get picked but J was an exception and I think the Flyers did a great job with the selection because um he’s already playing AHL minutes he’s already one of the leaders on the team in terms of um of expected points production so I I think that overall J could become something very very interesting for the Flyers probably a bottom six forward who um you know chips in on the second power play maybe I think that’s the the height of what you’d expect him to become as an NHL um but really really decent value there from the Flyers him playing AHL minutes full-time ah minutes at 20 is a great sign for where he’s going with his career that’s our second segment done we’ll get into our third segment here where we talk more about the prospects outside of the NHL and AHL we have a long list of guys to talk about Oliver Bon jet luchenko Denver Barky who’s been absolutely phenomenal this year for London we’ll talk about all those prospects just before I cck word from our sponsors at FanDuel get ready to tackle the NFL action with FanDuel America’s number one sports our final segment we’ll be talking about the prospects of the Philadelphia Flyers playing outside of the NHL or AHL and I think this conversation starts with the three boys from the OHL uh Oliver Bon Jet lenko and Denver Barky and let’s start with Oliver Bon because his game has really taken off this year with the London Knights uh he’s obviously playing behind Sam Dickinson in the pecking order on the power play um but he’s playing the defensive minutes on that uh on that team he’s got 21 points in 24 games but don’t be fold by the point totals Bon has been very very reliable this year and he’s progressing in the areas that wanted to see from him I know he’s got offensive skill I know he’s got a bomb of a shot I know he’s physical and aggressive defensively I wanted to see improvements in three areas breakouts retrievals composure that’s exactly what we’ve seen so far from Bon this season he’s gotten a lot more Poise and calm uh when retrieving the puck behind his net and breaking it out of the Zone um the Poise that he’s shown in the offensive zone as well he’s not just rifling pucks from everywhere he’s hanging on to them for a split second waiting uh for for Lanes to open waiting for structures to shift on one side of the ice before shooting um very very effective in those areas of the game so I’m very curious to see what he becomes at the NHL level uh he he had a very very short stint there in the preseason but uh could become a uh an NHL as soon as next year I mean he’s still a bit erratic in his own Zone he’s still um a bit too aggressive on Puck carrier sometimes when defending transition plays but at the same time we’re talking about a prospect who has great size he’s got Bloodlines has a 6’2 200 pound right shot D there’s a reason aspect in the first round there’s a lot working for him on that side um he’s got the shutdown skills he’s got the shot from the point um the playmaking skill is still something that I’d like to see come a bit of ways um but at the same time you can’t fault him too much he’s your prototypical shut down defenseman with bomb of a shot from the point that has value in the NHL that can net you a first rounder and a trade um you know a second pair defenseman um second pair right shot defenseman who’s great defensively teams love that stuff and you know if the Flyers want to be a contender in the next couple of years Bon is a great way to start uh that that rebuild um we also need to talk about jet lenko luchenko had a stin in the NHL which uh I think only David St Louie our lead scouted Elite Prospect had predicted um you know didn’t score a point played Four played four games but so far he’s gone back to uh to the OHL he’s been playing decently well um the points haven’t really come that far but uh he’s still able to be effective he’s got 20 points so far this season in the ol um still a defensive Ace he’s playing right now at the world juniors I just watched him last night in the uh pre-tournament game against Switzerland he was still exactly what he is a speedy defensively responsible defensively sound uh two-way Center who can play in any situation but does it all with high-end effort high-end energy and physical and pH physical prowess um there’s a reason he was picked a 13th overall by the flyers I think they’re looking for exactly what he brings after pick mitkov in 2023 uh and and kind of going all out offense with that selection going for luchenko this year uh makes for a great balance of what they have in their pool he’s a phenomenal two-way Center an incredibly intelligent player with high-end skating highend Mobility uh and highend physical prowess as well he’s got a bit of everything and I really like what he brings to the game um I wouldn’t have picked him at 13th if I’m honest that’s a tiny bit high for what he’s likely going to be which is a phenomenal middle six center um but at the same time given what they were looking for I think that he fits the bill exactly um he’s got everything to be an NHL um and he’s grown a tiny bit he’s gone from 51 I think six foot and a half at this point um as a right shot Center was able to do a bit of everything great great selection still very much playmaking oriented but he’s he’s improved his ability to shoot inside of uh inside of contact shoot inside of motion uh and be able to get some pucks on net which is great for his progression as well he’s turning more and more into a um dual threat two-way Center which those guys very rarely Miss I think at the very very least you’ve got a third line Center out of lenko and at the best you’ve got one of the most reliable defensively sound second line centers in the NHL I think this was a good selection at the end of the day we also have to talk about Denver Barky a prospect that I have been a major fan of for the longest time and Barky has been on absolute fire this season uh for the London Knights in the OHL he’s been their leader him and eastn cow have continued to be uh the twins as are called in the league he’s got 32 points in 25 games so far for the London Knights he continues to be an incredibly effective incredibly aggressive uh offensive forcheer he’s got that dog in him uh and uh very very aggressive on the four check really like to to watch him uh kind of hunt down Defenders and just pry pucks off of them uh bully them despite his 5 foot 10 160 pound frame U very very aggressive player um and his playmaking has always been the major standout offensively he’s so so good at finding passing Lanes at exploiting Defenders triangles at opening up the offensive zone with deception manipulation um you know blended into his passing skill and he’s got a wide array of passes that he can hit um you know seam passes he can hit Area passes floaters saucers uh slip passes hook passes you name it he’s got it all and his playmaking game continues to be kind of the the the focus of his game he’s got 27 assists uh on those 32 points um and yeah overall he St into a leader on that team as well he’s a captain of the London Knights this season and by far the um the most uh effective forcheer on their team along with East Cowan the two of them are doing phenomenally uh but overall you know he’s still a 5 foot 10 forward that comes with this limits as as effective as he is on the Fourche getting to the AHL and doing that same thing against 6’2 6’3 30-year-old defenseman is not going to be the same for him he’s going to have to adapt in some ways but a lot of what he does on the for che has to do with mechanics rather than strength which is which actually builds well because players with good mechanics tend to translate their physical play better than prospects who are 6’2 6 fo three but don’t have the best leverage mechanics and can’t fight as well along the boards so I’m curious to see what he becomes in the AHL and he’s going to need some AHL time before it becomes an NHL that’s for sure um I’m thinking two three years in in in uh in the minors before he gets the call up and becomes an NHL but I think at the end of the day this risk at 95th overall is going to pay off massively for the flight this is a great Prospect um some other prospects here some highlights to name uh Cole Canal has been phenomenal for Notre game the naaa is well above a point per game as he’s really the the offensive focus of that team he’s uh the the prospect that they rely on in order to produce to create I think he was a great overage selection by the by the Flyers and his progression has been pretty interesting Jack Bergland is playing pretty much all over the place right now j20 Al fensin uh shl uh Champions Hockey League you name it he’s played at pretty much every level he’s been pretty interesting mainly he’s playing bottom six minutes when he’s playing pro um anywhere between five and 10 minutes at the shl level anywhere between you know 9 and 15 in the alinin and obviously in junior he’s playing a lot more but he’s a reliable defensively sound offensively intelligent player I don’t think the skills are all that highend but the mindset the intelligence the effort level the energy all the intangibles are definitely there with Bergland I think that in terms of a to be a bottom six Force at the NHL he’s a decent bet uh I think he has a decent chance of getting there Alex chernick is also another Prospect we should talk about um his development is sort of stagnated in the AL spin hasn’t really found a way to get to the shl yet but uh he’s still a skilled transitionally Sound Player who plays some decent defensive minutes he’s a name to keep an eye out for for example in the bottom six roll three or four years from now might come out of nowhere and and snag that role from a veteran that kind of thing um but the hopes aren’t too too high when it comes to chernick one Prospect who I’ve really liked to watch so far this year in the qjl is Spencer Gil he’s a reliable defensive defenseman who started to flash a lot more offensive skill um you know breakout passes stretch passes out of his Zone uh but also some offensive uh some offensive zone abilities activation shooting from the point with great timing there’s some there’s some stuff to work on uh to work with there with Spencer Gil and lastly Devin Kaplan who so who who now has a letter on the Jersey over in uh um over in Boston University uh his his point production is stagnated but his game continues to be reli reliable defensively sound I think there’s a lot of these prospects in the Flyers pool that project his bottom six defensive prospects um Deon Kaplan is another name in that list he has a bit more punch in terms of his goal scoring and skating abilities I think those are kind of standouts in his game but I would still expect him to be kind of a third lineer at best that kind of prospect but overall the pool of the Philadelphia Flyers filled with very interesting prospects you’ve got high in talent in mov you’ve got a bunch of very interesting two-way pieces the likes of luchenko Barky berglin those type of guys and then you have a decent bunch of defenseman who are mainly defensively oriented Oliver Bon Spencer Gil Matteo man is also in that group uh but a decent blend of prospects in there with some offensive Talent also from the Blue Line Jamie Dale Emil Andre those types of guys so that’s it for today’s episode thank you very much for tuning in if you’re watching on YouTube remember to like And subscribe let us know in the comments what you think of the
