[Music] ladies and gentlemen welcome to another episode of the Jim K Ford s Nation Podcast coming up today oh the S owner is not happy about the kachuck rumors that are out there uh the S fell 4 to2 to the Islanders on Sunday night and oh Travis Green is not happy with some of the questioning from the media I think it’s his crankiest news conference to date um we’ll talk about the pizza line that happened that reunion since the last time we got together Luke Richardson out of a job Adam godette keeps scoring goals all still ahead today here on the program Steve Warren here that is Greg Kennedy he is to uh if you’re watching on YouTube he is to my left right now how are things Greg things are good Steve I I think we should mention though that that’s not a green screen behind you no it’s that is just beautiful isn’t it little fireplace little lit up Christmas tree brick wall my goodness you live in a fine home Stephen thank you thank you very much yeah the uh that’s a little a little annoyance for those who are listening to the audio only portion of this but it’s good incentive for you to check out the new YouTube channel where uh we are regularly posting the show uh chance to see our leathery old mugs well I I went s’s glasses today Steve because I I’ve been told that my eyes look really really squinty when I have my glasses on so I said you know what I’m going to go without the glasses and see if that makes me look any better that’s quite the task but we’ll find out we’ll see what the reviews are I’m sure there’ll be uh M Millions upon Millions giving us feedback on on S things but let’s get to it uh s owner Michael andlau in the news today Board of Governor meeting I guess he had a chance to chat with some members of the media and really expressed that he’s not happy about those Brady kachuck rumors that are out there uh for those who missed it a few days ago Larry Brooks from the New York Post basically put it out there right around the time that the Rangers were trading away their captain that maybe the Rangers were turning their attention on ottawa’s Captain that he was a trade Target for them and we all know that trade rumors happen all the time in the NHL uh this is a particularly sensitive one for Michael andlauer and the Ottawa Senators I think at the Crux of this whole thing it’s basically listen World NHL world out there we’re going to have a hard enough time keeping our superstar in Ottawa in three and a half years when his contract expires we don’t need you making it harder for us I think that’s kind of what it comes down to what we what was your reaction when you heard Michael andlau use the phrase soft tampering today I I think tampering is stretching it I don’t know that tampering was involved that tampering would would indicate that somebody from the Rangers talked to Brady kachuck and I don’t think that happened but uh let’s not kid ourselves they planted the story with Larry Brooks um I think part of the reasoning is I I believe they’re trying to increase whatever value they think they can get for Jacob trouba hey look the Senators are talking to us about Britt kachuck in a trouba deal but then when you look at what they got for Jacob trouba I don’t think it worked um I also think there’s probably a part of it too maybe maybe they’re sending a message to the kachuck family uh and Mr auster the agent and Mom and Dad and and to Brady in a way too saying you know it worked out real well for your brother when he uh slipped off to Florida and won a Stanley Cup let’s not sleep on you maybe coming becoming a New York Ranger someday or when the contract’s over I think that’s probably part of it too floating a little floating a little story out there care of Larry Brooks yeah never any truth to it according to the Senators there’s not been any negotiation whatsoever and uh yeah I think that your take is sort of like mine that that that’s you know when you talk about the contract expiring in a few years that’s starting to starting to sew those seeds a little bit and uh yeah I’m sure that Chris jury would love to have Brady kachuk as a New York Ranger one day I think there are 31 teams 32 including the team he’s already on that want Brady could chuck around so uh there is possible this strategy behind it it’s also possible that Larry Brook’s neighbor said something and it just popped into his head I don’t know I don’t know the answer to that one way or the other but uh the Rangers the the Rangers are obviously going to be interested everybody is I think we could agree though it’s not I I don’t think there was actual tampering dirty pool yes I but I don’t think it was tampering I think the Rangers definitely planted something for whatever reason you know a couple we highlighted here I but no tampering just dirty pool I think yeah depends on your definition of tampering like he’s not they’re not communicating directly with the player in any way shape or form but they’re kind of in a sideways way you know soft tampering okay soft tampering is the word that Michael and used so I think that I don’t know if tampering is totally a wrong expression it’s not the standard kind that we’re used to but I do think that the Rangers are I mean I think they’re starting to you communicate with Brady kachuck in a sideways manner not only letting them know letting kachuck know that they’re Keen but also leaving Brady kachuck to feel like the s’s may be trying to trade me right so the kind of a double whammy behind it so tampering use that word fine I don’t care but uh screwing with a kid’s head yeah I would say that that’s uh that’s sort of what’s happening and and certainly the sends in one of the smaller markets in the NHL not one of the most coveted markets or uh desirable markets for unrestricted free agents they don’t need this on top of everything else there’s a reason Greg I think you know no Canadian team has won a Stanley Cup uh since 1993 um I think the the pressure of it all that’s part of it the taxation the weather all that it’s hard enough to get people to come to Canada exception of the Leafs obviously but uh they they just don’t need this on top of everything else because this this happened in May you remember we heard we we heard about spitting chicklets talking about this we heard a St Louis radio station talking about this well kach Chuck’s from here and you know maybe that’s going to happen and the SS had to put that out and Steve stos called that total BS as well so um yeah tampering may not be the official word but it’s uh it’s not ideal for the Senators whatever you want to call it agreed agreed All Right Moving On Moving on S fall 42 to the New York Islanders the good news is they’re two- one in their last three games but that was a game that they should have won I thought that was one of their better games of the entire season but between their penalty kill continuing to scuffle and between Anton forsberg allowing he made 10 saves yeah going to need more than 10 saves I know it’s not easy sometimes they say when goalies aren’t busy you know they’re that could be tough too that could be challenging but man they they just needed a save and they didn’t get it and meanwhile elas soken at the other end was fantastic for the Islanders and that was two points it was right there for the taking I sure hope that the reason that forsberg started and not allmark had something to do with a conversation between the staff and allmark and allmark saying yeah you know I’m not really a guy for backto backs it’s probably not a good idea because if they made this decision without consulting anyone and just said yep we’re going to start forsberg because backtack yada yada without even asking elar how he would feel about it like I had a problem with it I I thought I didn’t uh they started forsberg which is what they thought they were going to do and I thought it was going to be a poor decision and it was the the rebound on the first goal I thought he he the pass should have never happened to mlan on the second goal he should have been able to stop the pass from coming across in front of him the third goal palmary good shot but you know in a game like that uh the save was required you know and it wasn’t it wasn’t all that hard I didn’t think I I thought he could have stopped that or should have stopped that or allmark would have stopped that he just forsberg’s forsberg he’s just he’s I’ve never been a big fan as you know on this this podcast over the years I just don’t think he has it and the more difficult the more pressure there is on him I think the he tends to wilt a little and he and he certainly did in that game I thought anyway yeah I think I got I would have gone with lenus alark as well um just because he’s been piping hot and every point is so crucial right now the Islanders enter that game a point ahead of the s in the Eastern standings S have a couple of games in hand on them but that’s you know you want to keep the mojja going get a little winning streak going and uh you know when you build up a lead then you can start getting fussy about things but I also don’t blame Travis Green for it either because for the things you said um you know I think about just a general policy I think statistically if you look big picture most of the time if a goalie starts back to back Knights they don’t Faire as well uh the stats bear that out but more than that your season’s over with lenus elmar gets hurt again lenus El Mark uh you know he missed a couple of weeks with nagging injuries missed a bunch of the training camp and so in a back-to-back situation just based on the way the season has gone so far he seems to be seems to have gotten his mojo back his his numbers are ungodly good in the last four games yeah and he’s three or yeah three and one in his last four games so you don’t want to muck too much with that and you don’t want to if back to back and he’s not a guy that’s played tons and tons of hockey he’s never been a 50 game guy in a season so that probably entered into the the equation as well potentially um and maybe a conversation happened with L Lena alark I’m not sure but that has to go into the the the thinking process as well basic stats and the slightly bigger risk of injury by putting a guy in and overworking him okay but how about the stat that your your opponent as you just highlighted is one point ahead of you you gota you got to win this game uh the your opponent is also in a back-to-back where the prior game was a road game so a back-to-back with travel so they’re probably aren’t going to have their aame and they didn’t um they’ve been struggling anyway but I just thought all the other factors I I don’t know that they were considered I think too much of the of the analytics become tunnel vision and we’re just going to look at lenus olar and his stats in these kind of situations and generally speaking back-to-back games by a goenda like what’s your opposition up to what’s their schedule situation right now what’s their goal tending scenario at you know I don’t know that those things I think that if you legitimately sat down and considered those things that leads to the argument that yeah okay we need allmark and allmark should play and I know that that stuff was considered I just to me that’s what I considered when I decided it should be allmark well I think it’s you know I think a lot of this comes from what the Islanders did like you say sokin started back to back he he played the day before and uh it Patrick dwah may have made the same kind of decision as Travis Green though if if the circumstances were different because he had a Third String Goalie remember old Marcus hogberg he’s back in the NHL signed with the Islanders semi envir la got hurt earlier in the week and so you got hogberg as your option like I think between the fact that he hasn’t started an NHL game in three and a half years and that game was going to be back in Ottawa with the against the team that drafted him and kind of cast him away uh three and a half years ago I think Patrick was thinking that might be a bit of a a psych out if I fire Marcus hogberg in there if arl’s healthy maybe he would have went to him but we’ll never know of course um but the thing is I think I’m not going to come down to Travis Green because I think that he’s going to standard practice um and he’s got some level of trust in Anton forsberg and that’s his backup goalie and and so I think we’re at a stage right now that if he didn’t want to change his policy per se um you don’t and I think that’s not necessarily A Bad Thing don’t change your policy but maybe it’s time to change your backup goalie yeah if this is this is how you’re dealing with things maybe it’s time to fire this guy on waivers and uh and find yourself a new goenda on that you can operate under best practices with um I’m not saying that time is now but if you look at I mean it’s night and day the last I’ll throw in five games now for Anton forsberg but going into the game looking at their most four recent four games they were night and day um forsberg’s got to be better he’s their regular backup and he needs to be relied upon uh to step up when they need him to and if he can’t they got to go find someone else who can and how about the Colorado Avalanche they in in a span of seven days they they traded out both goalies they have a whole new tandem in the span of seven days there’s there’s an organization that made a choice and said you know what this tandem’s just not quite good enough gorgiev got traded today you I can’t even remember the other guy’s name now but he he got moved out a week ago like boom just they needed to make a change they made a change so you bring up up a valid point but there’s been all these injuries in Bingo or Bingo sorry in Belleville um you you just have um the great danne has just come off injury they’ve been going with suban and a nobody for the last couple weeks bille yeah Mike Simpson right you just you’ve just gotten uh what’s his name now the Dane he just came back mad soard there you go mad sogard just came back so you know who you GNA bring up what are you going to do you couldn’t even make that and sogard hasn’t exactly proven himself as a as an NHL player and maril Lan’s just back right basically the two of them have just come back off injury so neither one of them has really established thems so I think that if you even if you wanted to make a change it backup goalie now’s probably not the time also as as you’ve alluded to that you couldn’t exactly give the ball to allmark could have him run with it because he’s not a guy who has played the 50 games in his season so you really need somebody there that you can count on for 20 games and just win 12 of them you know that’s really all you’re asking for and instead you go out and lay an egg and again you know really it was the San Jose game in Reverse that’s that’s the way I saw it and and and Travis Green had an opportunity to deliver a DJ Smith ISM and he did right he said you know 95% of the time that’s a game you win right it was perfect DJ Smith that’s a game where on another night we would have won perfect yeah I was thinking I was thinking that same thing for sure so let’s get to that news conference and this is courtesy of the Ottawa senator’s YouTube channel and I’m I’m declaring this Travis Green’s crankiest news conference yet and he’s had some Beauties but get listen into this because he’s very short answer Travis Green just doesn’t want to be there right you know he didn’t want to go down any sort of negative roads because he felt like the team played so well so he was irritable with the negative slanted questions but he was also didn’t want to go down the road to any positive talk either he just didn’t want to be there this is Travis Green in conversation with the media after the loss on Sunday night yeah very positive yeah we had a good game like most of our your te’s game uh gave up eight shots five on five uh spent a lot of time in their Zone probably when that came 95% of the time could you have done anything more offensively to was that goal lead just that good tonight oh yeah I’m sure we could have done a few things could have you know it’s easier said than done to score goals in the NHL guys get paid a lot of money to do it our penalty kill needs to be better than it was tonight but that’s that’s easy to say too gave up 12 shots total those first two goals you guys allowed resulting in in goals in front of the net what to happen and in order for those plac on I’m not going to nitpick our game tonight we dominated the game that was that was our best game we’ve played in I don’t know eight to 10 games probably since the Toronto or Boston game what’s it say another a guy like Adam gadet who’s shown sort of that perseverance to now seeing the success yeah he’s he’s having a good year yeah I’m not probably not going to sit in here and put a lot of Praise on a lot of things when we just lost but Adam’s having a good year what do you maybe need to see from the botom six like they played great tonight but maybe to just keep going I mean everyone wants to score you play well you you got a better chance of scoring if you don’t play well you don’t have a good chance of scoring I don’t know pince had six shot attempts another the cousins got really unlucky to score early ammo played well we play a hell of a hockey game tonight just tough to one let one like that slip away you know like at least get out there were point and you got a team in that situation yeah that’d be nice really nice gave up two shots in the third period we didn’t we didn’t get the what do you want me to say yeah be nice would have been nice to win five to two we but you have dirtier Around the Net maybe dos yeah yeah I thought their goalie played well tried to get to the net front they boxed out well like I said I think probably win that game nine out of 10 times but I guess the point is Bruce are you trying to get me to like we just played a pretty good game and lost if you’re looking for me to start nitpicking our game tonight don’t don’t there’s Travis Green in conversation with the media uh shutting Bruce down in his tracks there and uh yeah like I say it didn’t it was like why show up for that thing cuz he didn’t want to talk about the positives or the negatives he just basically wanted to say played a hell of a game and didn’t really want to engage in anything else but but the things he did say made it sound even worse you know we only gave up eight shots five on five but we lost we only give up two shots in the third period but got outscored in the third period and lost you all like that sucks man it’s just that’s bad that’s bad and it made it sound even worse poor guy yeah yeah and you’re right about the DJ Smith isms uh DJ would put it this way uh something along the lines of if we keep playing like that we’ll win more than we lose I think is was his general statement wait a minut you forgot something in there oh what’s that yeah some sniffing uh I certainly appreciate DJ Smith’s you know um graciousness with the media that’s always been good but uh Travis Green is definitely um different and I’ll leave it at that U but this the sniffing oh yeah do not miss that just constant I believe it was uh the medical term is post-nasal drip that’s he never really address he never ever addressed it ever ever ever um let’s stick with the audio here let’s go to the captain and hear what he thought of the game I’m you’re goingon to win no games nine times out a 10 if if we continue to play like that just sting because they’re a conference opponent and a team you’re going to battle with uh I mean there’s still so much hockey and Runway left that I mean of course you think of you know in our conference um you know stuff like that but at the end of the day it’s um it’s just you know a game against uh um anybody which is very important so it’s uh crucial two points that uh we missed out on but uh like I said if we if we play like that I mean you’re going to get rewarded nine out of 10 times was there like a meeting after the game here’s what we’re gonna say we’re gonna win this game nine out of 10 times like the captain says it and the coach says it I don’t know if I heard anybody else say it but uh anyway that is Brady kachuck in conversation with the media and and I heard Bruce’s follow-up question there I don’t know if you noticed in the uh in the Travis Green part like if looks could kill when Bruce was asking something Al asking something along the lines of do you wish you could have gotten two points out of that one and while he was asking that question question Travis Green looked like he was just going to erupt on him um but uh that’s how it goes sometimes a little frustration there for sure uh but uh yeah nine out of 10 times they’re going to win that game apparently so anyway nine out of 10 times it works half the time isn’t that the line Anchor Man no yeah uh now Lisa Wallace asked Travis Green in that news conference about you tried to introduce something light and and yeah fun and and one of the best stories of the S Young season is Adam godette already at 13 goals he scored again and that is his career high he’s already at his career high at this stage of the game a guy they got they put on waivers at the start of the year uh famously signed to a two-way contract roughly minimum wage and uh and and and what an asset he has been but the coach didn’t really want to talk about that too much so let’s hear instead from Adam godette himself just talk about year on performance tonight and just you know hitting a new career high yeah I mean um you know playing with Timmy and G has been awesome you know those guys create a lot of space um I’m just trying to win battles and get them the puck and let them skate and then try to get open and get to the net um you know um definitely proud of the way I’ve been playing um but you know it’s it’s not something that I’m thinking about too much I just want to go out there and you know we want to win games here and um you know that’s what we’re trying to do you had a comment was what maybe while the team was on the road about you’ve always been able to succeed do it feel good to to kind of prove it at this level as well absolutely um you know after years of you know people people not thinking I can do it and and um going down to the minors and you know just sticking with it and believing that you can do it uh you know it’s definitely feels good and but you know I I’m never satisfied I don’t want to stop here um you know I I want to keep going and and help this team win and and do everything I can to do that Adam follow-up question Steve war from s Nation Podcast and the hockey news I want to ask you this question so if you guys play that same way 10 times how many times do you think you’ll win the game let’s see if it’s let’s see if this is a company lineer that’s Adam got to that in conversation uh with the media and uh yeah he’s been a great story 13 does he even have 40 shots on net yet no no it’s 30 something yeah amazing and to do it with the weirdness that like I kind of thought that Travis Green was always in his corner and I’m sure he is they go back to Vancouver together and he makes the team but at the same time the last not a week and a half it’s been godet up to the top six one game and then down to the fourth line shovel him over to the right wing Then Greg goes up and Greg and godett in particular been going up and down from top six to the bottom bottom line it’s I it’s been weird to see it’s it’s it’s like mad science going on right now with Travis Green as he tries to figure out who exactly is my sixth guy in that top six I like but I do like the connection that he’s found with pinto and uh uh cousins I thought I thought Nick cousins has played his two best games of the year the last two games he’s looked good so he seems to have found a home there playing on the third line with uh with Greg as the as the third guy there i’ I’ve liked that look and hey the top six looks good right now no need to worry about anybody up there uh like my my concern has nothing to do with the forwards I I continue to have issues with the size and the strength and the tenacity pugnaciousness meanness of the D I wish the D were stronger and meaner and harder on people in front of the net but hey there’s nothing wrong with the forwards yeah and I i’ I’ve uh to that point about the D you know those two goals Jensen and Sanderson they didn’t look really good on it like just not not tying up sticks wrong side of the guy um bit of a concern because I mean they both have their assets like Jensen’s been a good ad he’s been a good player for this team but he’s not as physical as I I’d sort of counted on like yeah yeah um so if you’re not he’s he’s a pretty good scorer me he’s got 10 points which five on five is second on the team only to Thomas Shabbat sanderson’s five on five is like two points not good uh on the power play of course he he does a lot better but um more offense than I would have thought and I’ve liked everything else he’s delivered but in terms of physicality um yeah I mean this was this is why Eric branstrom was not brought back because he just got overwhelmed in situations like we saw the Islanders score goals on the the anders leag goal and the mlan goal that was just you know guys getting out worked in front of the net and uh you’re hoping that the guys that remain that get to stay we’re going to be able to handle that but certainly in that Islander game like you said they uh they were kind of outworked and it affects your PK like it it really does people can go to the blue paint and not and and sort of know that they’re not gonna get mused out and I I Tyler clein’s the closest thing to a physical guy they have as far as you know one dimensional physical guy but even he isn’t isn’t strong enough or mean enough or bad enough however you want to term it they just they don’t have that big honk and meat hook you know that big guy that just scares people away and you’re not coming near me you know this is my home I’m protecting the house the blue paint belongs to us you know they just don’t have that Travis hammeck is a career PK guy and does a great job shot blocking but he he’s he’s not a physical guy Sanderson is not a physical guy we know Shabbat isn’t a physical guy you know jbd and clevin don’t get enough minutes don’t really play PK that much so it’s it’s an issue not just PK but five on five as well slot slot chances deep slot chances like down on top of the blue paint right yeah they got to be better I mean the the Islanders had the worst power play in the entire NHL going into that game and uh the sends were like 24th on the PK uh but you know I think The Islander power play percentage was 11% going into the game and they go 100% in that game two for two not ideal uh when you’re dealing with a oneg goal game you had the empty neter at the end of course but uh uh but at the same time taking a more positive approach on things you know we get hyperfocused because you watch the Senators as closely as you do and I mean I’m gonna say nine out of every 10 goals just kind of throw that out there as a fraction um the there are mistakes made on both ends you know watch a senator goal yeah take a moment while you’re celebrating a senator goal to watch how somebody just screwed up in front of their own net um we get a little hyperfocused on the locals just understand that every team even the best defensemen look sometimes ridiculous on the wrong side of the park and just muck things up um but the best ones uh minimize that they mitigate that as best as they can it’s the ones who do it consistently game in game out that kind of drive you crazy up on the house oh hey it’s Steve here for celebrate I’m just putting on my old school Christmas lights with these obnoxious little plastic Clips Inus 30° temperature at the top of this ladder 12 ft off the ground no I’m not doing any of that anymore no sir celebrate.com holiday lighting solution so many options St Patty’s Day Green Team Canada red and white orange for Halloween and the beautiful colors of Christmas and celebrate is all controlled from your smartphone and celebrites installers were absolutely fantastic and professional I urge you to check them out today celebrate.com like you were hoping for I was hoping for it was just a yeah it was a morning press conference lots of uh media and then going out to Center ice and waving to the fans they all had their black jerseys on um I thought the whole thing was pretty cool and you can talk about it being the pizza line reunion and it was it was neat neat to hear some you know great Nostalgia but at its heart really it was about mending fences with Danny Heatley was not exactly you’re bang on and and I like the fact that they did it the way they did it because bringing out just heatly might have been a little might have some people might have been a little nervous about the reaction if it had been heatly and heatly alone this way there’s a little bit of insulation there uh the fans here love Jason spenza and always will and of course they love Alfie so I think even the people who might have wanted to boo Danny Heatley even the people who are not happy about Danny he maybe they weren’t clapping when Heatley came out but they’re probably thinking to themselves well you know I he’s okay with Alfie and he’s okay with SPS I guess I better you know shut my mouth and and and acknowledge him as a for what he’s done for this team he spoke Danny Heatley did glowingly of the city of the fans of his time here he some of the best times of his career and life and you know if you sit back and you say to yourself okay because back then we weren’t necessarily talking about what a Gong Show things were in the owner Suite um but as the years passed we realized what was going on it was probably going on back then too Heatley didn’t say specifically why he demanded a trade he talked about diminished role at the time but didn’t want to get into that part of it per se but uh you know you’ve forgiven Alfie we talked about this in the last episode but you forgave Alfie for signing with Detroit you forgave a for asking for a trade that ended up seeing him go to Dallas I think it’s okay to forgive Heatley for what he had done it just he had that vetoing of the trade and it just uh like and it was a signing bonus issue too right yeah it cost it cost the owner owner owner money but right and it had a lot more to do it had a lot more to do with Corey Kon than it had to do with Eugene Melnick like Corey Clon is pretty much didn’t have any use at all for Danny Heatley well and that’s part of it for sure but I I refuse to believe that the state of the organization you know they go to the Stan L Cup Final following year I think I want to say they were either missed the playoffs or were out early four straight and they miss the playoffs again and Clon comes to town and changes things around and clearly he wasn’t an NHL coach he you know he lasted a couple more years and then was out of the league completely so I think that whether directly or indirectly Melnick is part of that equation um for hiring the coach that we’re talking about here too so anyway it was it was a pretty neat day I thought all in all and here’s a bit of the news conference starting with uh Danny Heatley I guess the one thing I will say is um when I did um want to leave I was it was not nothing to do with the city or the fans um I said earlier these are the four four of the best years of my life not only hockey wise but uh off the friendship wise and uh um that’s really I want to say to the city in the fence I still love him I’m I’m happy and I’m grateful that Mr an law invited me back and to get me uh back in the organization for this night and uh I’m really looking forward to tonight’ been hoping to kind of I guess make amends if you will and to be able to to come back and and maybe make things right if you will yeah and uh like I said this the first time I’ve been invited back so um never said no to coming back were you waiting kind of thing was it one of those things that you were waiting for the all look Branch I guess yeah I mean uh the end of the day it’s not up to me to to invite myself back but uh um I said it’s it’s great to be back um that’s all I can say did you free stay in touch at all over the years or was it kind of fleeting the way you would get together or just communicate no I think we we’ve all stayed in touch to a certain extent I think when when you’re playing and in hockey we all have our own families and when you don’t play on the same team with everyone you you know grow apart and then you remember that you haven’t talked in a while and you bring it back and our bond will always be tight like I think you’re most excited about having dinner afterwards and talking and you’re most it’s hard to get together life gets going and everybody has their own things they’re doing so it’s hard to make time to get together and talking to guys that have won I think that’s one of the greatest things that they enjoy about winning together is that they have reunions and they have reason to come back and be around each other and we didn’t get that opportunity because we didn’t win so this gives us a chance to to have that but I think the Bond will never be broken in terms of just the what you put into the game and together I don’t think people realize the work you put in together so then when you see each other it brings back just like all the positive memories Alfie when you guys were in your Prime scoring a lot of goals you fed a lot of hungry fans as well did you think at the time went when you were guy for Tech the pizza line did you think that was a a pool name do you think anything about it at the time uh not not in the beginning uh but when when the fans started chanting pizza pizza pizza after we scored three and we needed three more yeah of course it’s like uh not that we needed more motivation to score goals so there’s Daniel offerts and Jason spa and Danny Heatley in conversation with the media the Cy of the Senator’s YouTube channel admit it though Steve did when you saw speta handed out the pizzas in the STS were you not thinking like during the open when he walked out he should have just stepped over the blue line into the offensive zone and maybe blindly served one up behind him I was waiting for him to serve up a pizza high in the offensive zone just one time you know that that would have that would have capped it all off right there yeah that’s that that’s always been a thing with the with the the name the pizza line because everybody okay if they score six goals in the game uh fans they bring their ticket in they they go to a pizza chain and they get a slice of pizza but maybe not as well known to fans is the fact that a pizza is a pizza right up the middle is a vicious terrible giveaway uh in terms of hockey vernacular so yeah not great not a great name SPS a blind backhand pass just inside the Blue Line serving up a pizza yeah uh that pizza line and it’s funny you know like they you the nicknames in hockey individually we know they’re dead you know you’d probably be Ken and I’ve got wary I’ve always said wary um the nicknames are dead but the the certainly the line nicknames are dead aren’t they because nobody stays together anymore 50% of marriages end in divorce I’m gonna say nine out of 10 lines get broken up before long huh how about that yeah like like seriously you gotta go back like what you go back to the Crazy Eights is that the last the the Le of Doom was the Crazy Eights or the Legion of Doom like is that the last line that kind of stuck together like you and I grew up with the gag line right and the uh and the mph the miles per hour Martin paping and Hall playing in Chicago you know like Lin the scooter line back in the day any number of different teams have had a kid line over the years you know just the grind line okay every team’s got a grind line and even the grind line changed the Personnel on the grind line changed all the time it just doesn’t happen anymore because they don’t because you’re right they’re not together yeah it’s funny because and gag line by the way Goa game New York Rangers in the 1970s uh was it jilber rattel and Hadfield correct right Vic Hatfield the first first he might still be the only but he when he scored 50 goals of the Rangers he was the first player to ever do it without a multi-goal game no way yeah and I don’t know if that record still stands but heor SC 50 goals one year without the benefit of a multi-goal game that is impressive it’s fun absolutely it’s funny that the the lines don’t stay together because mean every player we have on the podcast this this comes up with Drake bson has come up with a couple of times like they all like it they all like to have consistent linemates I don’t any player who says oh yeah I love being yanked around through the lineup I love not knowing who I’m going to play with on any given night it’s fantastic they all say the same thing they they kind of like to have that stability and get to know where each other are and yet coaches continue to I don’t know shuffle them around like Blackjack dealers because coaches go with pairs like even Pastak and berso played a lot with de Brusque I don’t know that they had a name but that name changed that that that line changed it wasn’t always de Brusque it was filtered in and out you know Sydney Crosby played a lot with Chris kunet and whoever right it just changes all time I just because coaches deal in pairs not necessarily threesoms all right finally a Chicago Blackhawk story in that they fired their head coach this week and uh it’s got the Ottawa tie obviously because Luke Richardson was the guy who was let go by the Hawks after two seasons and two and a third Seasons we’ll call it the Hawks are in dead last overall so it’s hard to say ah it’s not fair the eighth place in their division in Luke’s first year second year and they’re eighth again right now and dead last overall in the NHL not going you want to see a you don’t necessarily want to see the thing turn around overnight but you want to see it starting to turn and it’s not starting to turn for the Hawks right now so Luke Richardson was let go this week and uh very Ottawa though like Ottawa West Golden Knights Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame former Senator player former Senator assistant coach AHL head coach for the s and finally got his opportunity with Chicago I was hoping it would go well for him but it it you know it did have one of those I mean all coaches are hired to be fired but when you go in right at the start of a rebuild like Richardson did that’s tough go yeah it it’s it’s a whole other kind of pressure for Success right you you’re coaching a middle of the- pack team you need to have success in order to stay you need to get above 500 and continue to climb it’s a whole other kind of pressure when you’re with the worst team in the league basically everyone knows you’re the worst team in the league well not necessarily this year but it his first year there and his second year there okay they’re really bad but you’ve you’ve got to do something you have to show some kind of development in that program that team has got to get better there has to be obvious signs night in and night out for the management watching you that hey you know we’re getting better we’re getting better we’re getting better they’re not expecting you to win every game but there are signs they’re looking for and unfortunately it just this year has been terrible they made changes they brought in free agents and it’s just Conor Bard has not been good this year uh Felino is playing well I guess you know Taylor Hall has been healthy scratched like they’re just they’re not there they’re they’re just they’re not good enough and they’re not making strides and I couldn’t help thinking about DJ Smith and his time here in Ottawa and do you think anybody would have would have said anything if he’d been let go after two and a third years instead of hanging on as long as he did you know we all kind of think it would have been been the appropriate thing to do here so from far away watching Chicago I I got to think when you look at it the cold hard stats unfortunately I I I think it was probably the right thing to do all right let’s call it quits we’ve got the sends taking on the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday that will be at the CTC then the sends are in Carolina on Friday night 7M and then Sydney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins are here on Saturday night so that’s how the week look any thoughts about the Ducks coming to town There’s a bit of Revenge there um but they’ll also have to keep their head up because they got Jacob trouba and uh what’s his name Rod kudas who take your head off at any point you better beat him it’s all I have to say you you you you lost another game I don’t care how close it was I don’t care what the shots were I don’t care if you competed hard I don’t care if nine out of 10 Knights you would normally win that game you should have won the game and and you didn’t you just you can’t afford these losses and you can’t afford anymore like I’m I’m tired of it start winning the games you’re supposed to win against the teams you’re supposed to beat consistently yeah like our old pal J used to say win the wibles there you go and uh yeah there lots of those out there stbl too all those things uh yeah stop the stoppable the show is stoppable right now we’re going to stop right here don’t forget that our website is sensation hockey.com and I hope you’ll check out the hockey news Ottawa I’m the site editor over there lots of cool articles we think uh thn.com Ottawa and that’s all I got for you today Greg great job as always and we’ll talk to you in our next episode for sure have a good night my
