this week in Ann Arbor was all about the future of Michigan football in the name of brace Underwood of course the number one quarterback in the country who has decided to choose Michigan but the future Michigan football is all about the more immediate future as well yes the game the game in Columbus and Michigan’s chance is a pulling off a Monumental upset I’m not kidding Michigan Ohio State Michigan fans don’t just be thinking about the future because While most of you were probably on Instagram or social media tracking Bryce Underwood this afternoon I was scouting your football team yes I was actually watching the game against Northwestern final score the maze in blue 50 Michigan offense scored 50 points today Northwestern six and the wild cat aren’t that bad they’re bad but they’re not that bad in terms of giving up 50 points they only gave up 31 to Ohio State last week let’s look at the Wolverines and what they accomplished today and what they can accomplish next week first thing they wrapped up a Bowl appearance with their sixth win the defending national champions are six and five Northwestern needed win this week and against Illinois next week to reach a bowl game and back up of David Ron’s remarkable first season but they could not get it done of course they are now 4 and seven Colton Loveland became Michigan’s all-time single season receiving leader at tight end with his 55th reception in this game but it was air hall who looked like a wide receiver on the first drive of the game for Northwestern as he stretched out with both feet in great hands catch for the interception which led to the khil mullings touchdown Wolverines at 7 to nothing Aiden hubard had a sack which stopped a drive uh for Michigan as Davis Warren got sacked there they talked during the broadcast about how the coaching staff is teaching Davis Warren to step up in the pocket not to retreat as he typically likes to do and throw off his back foot and uh I think it was one of the great mistakes in Michigan football this year to give up on Davis Warren after some mistakes because when he was not making mistakes he was definitely by far the downfield threat not just downfield bombs downfield but intermediate passing range Davis Warren can get the job done they should have coached out his mistakes that should have been the focus early in the season but on this play uh he takes the sack from Aiden hubard and Dominic zabada who I am proud to say was my selection on my ballot for the football writers of America Association All America team that I voted first team Dominic zavada and he nailed a 58 y to back up and to back up my confidence excellent all right Josiah Stewart was doing what he does best he had a sack in the first quarter that stopped a Northwestern drive and then Northwestern punted the ball down to the two yard line uh Xander Mueller had a gift of an interception so I’m not selling Davis Warren as some great quarterback but in this offense considering the other options should have been the selection in day one and then continued on through the season but he did have a overthrow a bad overthrow on a corner Blitz which led to the Mueller interception one of the best defenders in the Big 10 picked it off and return to the Michigan 20 field goal for Northwestern as the Michigan defense stood tall 10 to3 at this point will show some of the Michigan defensive numbers because the Wolverines were impressive against yeah not a good offense but but a an offense with a couple capable Playmakers on the outside Michigan fans remember AJ Henning and then also this guy Bryce Curts he has some of the best hands in the Big 10 and also has the dubious distinction of having the most receptions and yardage in the Big 10 for a player with zero touchdowns and he had a remarkable comeback sliding catch that led to another field goal unfortunately for Northwestern as they could not put it into the end Zone could not stick it in there as Jack L tried to and Zeke Barry made a nice pass break up in the quarter of the End Zone on the aforementioned Bryce Curts Michigan came right back featuring the running game of course but also the tight end Coulson Leland as he scored a touchdown with just 5 seconds left in the first half Michigan LED 17-6 and then got the ball first in the second half and that drive was owned by the offensive line and khil mulling who was running his customary hard driving self 12 carries 92 yards for mullings Donovan Edwards by the way 10 carry 65 yards and then once again Josiah Stewart stopped another Northwestern drive single-handedly on a third and Long play in which he got another sack and Michigan basically just rolled from there 246 316 386 on and on and on final score from man Arbor 50-6 so Michigan six and five they’ve got the Buckeyes in Columbus trying to deprive Ohio State of earning a big 10 championship game bid also to keep Ohio State out of the playoffs Michigan has a ton to play for here can you imagine backing up a national championship no not with an outstanding season we know what Michigan football has been this year but to back that up by signing the number one quarterback in the country and then the next week after a 50 Burger on on Northwestern and again let’s not discount that Northwestern is not giving up 50 points to anybody else that they go to Columbus and they’ve got a shot at doing this are they the better team no but remember the 1990s Ohio state was the better team than Michigan in 1993 95 96 and Michigan won the football games offensive line running game Davis Warren doing enough in the passing game Tyler Morris jet sweeps creative ways to get him the ball and others like Frederick Moore and Michigan’s got a shot in this game this is not a great Ohio State team at least we can’t say that right this second although they look pretty damn good against Indiana of course if you compare the Michigan effort against Indiana and the Ohio State effort but look at what the Buckeyes did on off or on defense against Indiana it looked pretty close to what Michigan did after getting hit up for a couple early touchdowns in Bloomington holding the hooers to 25 plays and 18 yards in the second half so Michigan football looking toward the future not just Bryce Underwood not just 2025 but a date in the game against Ohio State and a puncher’s chance of pulling off a Monumental upset your comments and questions below are always welcome and of course we’re going to have blowout Ohio State Michigan coverage in all the
