41 of 14 Ruckers defeats Michigan state gets a statement Victory as they finish the season seven and five they prevent Jonathan Smith from reaching a bowl game in his first season in East Lancing Michigan State started off well touchdown drive very first drive of the game 7even nothing you’re thinking okay they’re here Ruckers rattled off uh 34 unanswered points after that from Midway through the first quarter through Midway through the fourth quarter Michigan state scored uh one more time with 7 minutes to play to cut the lead to 34 to4 uh the fans were the topic of discussion after the game we have a video up on the channel already discussing Aiden child comments on that Graham Couch’s opinion as well that the fans matter here uh it was a freezing cold game on a Saturday afternoon in East Lancing for a five and six football team that has showed very limited signs of improvement from game one to Game 12 I don’t think the fans had much of a say in this 37 whatever it was 27 27 point loss to Ruckers what did you make uh in the final game of Michigan State season uh pretty fitting end to a disastrous football season um usually football teams have phrases that enccompass what the team’s motto is for the season uh this one was one of lifeless football uh through and through uh didn’t really want to put much of a fight up against anybody except for couple games here and there where we decided to be little spunky little guys but besides that uh a lot of laying down and accepting the consequences of whatever what the other football team wanted to do to us um and that’s what the consequences of our action was uh we are not B eligible this was an awful football season um I don’t care what anyone says about like the whole like oh like this is what we you expect in the first year of the program D no this year was awful it stunk it was an underperforming season and I am finding myself in a very tough spot finding anything to be excited about about this football program given who was at the hel uh yeah okay so I I don’t think there’s enough or much to talk about with uh this actual football game so I do feel like the rest of this video is going to Pivot more into the direction you just went down of like where are you at belief wise and uh it sounds like you we know where you’re at belief wise but bottom line to me was like Ruckers is the better football team we yeah we kind of thought that coming in um now but isn’t that the whole thing with this football season like that we have played games against better teams but like put your hands up swing back do something do something I mean my my read here is that Michigan State’s extremely hurt so I that’s not like an all-encompassing excuse I still think they could have given Ruckers a better game than this but it is hard to win football games with how injured you are defensively right now agree but at the same time fight back yeah I hear you um so that that’s the interesting part of like the should you still believe in Jonathan Smith part to me because I don’t think like people are like what’ you expect eight and four in year one no nobody expected that at all I speak for everyone on this and ourselves nobody expected eight and four in its own right just as a stat something you read going five and seven in year one is not even an awful result I would say it’s a failure but I wouldn’t say it’s a bad result it’s just an objective failure when you could have gone six and six if you go six and six we would have said that’s a success go five- seven miss a Bull game after starting the year three and0 I think that’s a failure um it’s the way it happened and it’s the lack of signs of improvement for me like I I look at this team at the end of the season getting outscored by a one and 11 Purdue team 14 nothing in the second half last week getting just dog walked at home with a blll game on the line against Ruckers blowout losses to Indiana and Illinois I mean those those aren’t Ohio State and Oregon you lost by as much to Indiana and Illinois as you did to Oregon that that don’t make any sense to me like it it doesn’t make any sense to me the team that Michigan state was the final month of the season is the same team we watched against Florida Atlantic the only thing that has even marginally improved is Charles took better care of the ball in the final three weeks which is a big deal it it is a big deal give him credit for that but like that’s that’s my issue if you finish the season five and seven and we feel like there were clear gradual signs that at the end of the year they were a better football team than they were beginning car I don’t know how you look at this and make any argument other than they were better in the first month the team that went to Maryland and stormed away with a win at Maryland we didn’t see that team the rest of the season so like like this this team got worse if anything over the course of the year at best they were identical to the team that almost lost to Florida Atlantic how is that supposed to inspire any hope it it doesn’t that’s the thing that’s why I don’t have hope yeah like what what am I supposed to be hopeful about if once again this my my favorite exercise with Michigan State football right now what about my coaches endearing what about my coach should inspire me what about this football team should inspire me it should be Aiden Charles and I can get behind that but in his first postseason act he blames everyone but himself yeah I don’t get that and meanwhile once again for the how many games they play this year 12 12 for the 12th week in a row 13 given the bye um while all this chaos is going on all this all this bad football is being played there’s my coach over there hands in Pocket he’s just a chill guy just chilling he didn’t make a silly face that’s for sure didn’t make dog you I got to a point in this season and I’m not even proud to admit this but I’m gonna say it I I missed I I wanted a chop in the second half of this game we’re gonna kill that I wanted a chop in the second half of yeah we’re gonna we’re gonna kill that there we’re on a zoom call let’s be careful um so here’s some numbers I pulled on this as far as what what does Jonathan Smith do well this is what I’ve been asking everyone for about a month what is it that Jonathan Smith can hang his hat on other than I brought Aiden Charles with me who by the way was had this year what can this guy hang his hat on it’s supposed to be offense it’s supposed to be like strategy it’s supposed to be like he his team’s he’s a good offensive adjusting coach uh here’s some numbers for you I tweeted this on Saturday in their last four games again against Illinois Indiana Purdue and Ruckers not even the elites just just Illinois Indiana Purdue and Ruckers Michigan state was outscored 75 to4 in the second half of those games scored 14 points in the second half in four weeks to end the season uh Michigan state did not score a point in the second half of four games this season Florida Atlantic and Purdue were two of those games you did not score a point in the second half of those there was one game all season out of 12 that Michigan state scored more points than their opponent in the second half that was Prairie View and then the the carrot on top of it the the icing on the cake Jonathan Smith five- seven that’s the fourth best year of his seven years as a head coach this is this is the median this is the average this is what Jonathan Smith’s medium output is as a head coach so like this isn’t is isn’t underwhelming to him at all he’s had three worse Seasons than this so I I don’t get it um like if you’re dangling hope that ah maybe three years from now he’ll go eight and four is that worth what we just endured did we see any signs of Hope what does this team do at halftime do they do anything at halftime does he have any sort of offensive stuff to him because we haven’t seen it and that was the cell the cell was he was supposed to be an offensive guy this offense dies 30 minutes into a football game every single time and then the the last thing for me uh I said all season I harped on this super penalty prone which to me is just complete disorganization and slop that’s on coaching if your team commits that many penalties Michigan State committed more penalties than their opponent eight of 12 games this year three of the ones that they didn’t they committed the same amount of pen there was one game all year that they were penalized less than their opponent how the hell are you going to win football games if you commit more penalties than everybody every year you don’t score in the second half there’s no scheme there’s nothing I saw nothing of substance and then we get the quarterback saying there’s egos in the locker room and I’m out on the fans I mean great first year Jay Smith great first Year my friend could not have gone worse legit could not have gone worse it could have gone worse you could have gone one and 11 you could have been Ryan Walters in Purdue it could have gone worse I guess so I guess so formally out is that where you’re at oh yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah if you’re you’re Michigan State’s athletic director what do you do if I’m well if I’m Michigan States athletic director I resign um for the greater good of the fan base um I don’t know what you do because you made this bed and you you can’t get rid of them like I think you you have to give him at least three years but like I think you know for for if we’re we’re banking on Jay Smith being a part of the rebuild I don’t think he’s rebuilding a damn thing I mean hasn’t signed a fourstar recruit yet out of high school I think the hope would be a whole lot of portaling this off season but at the same time isn’t your budget for portaling going to the tennis courts right now uh it is and also like outside of that even with the budget I would be very interested to know what player transfer out there is watching this and be like yeah I want to go play for that guy so here here’s my thing look coaches can prove people wrong and find ways to win anywhere but if if the sell on like if you’re a Jonathan Smith believer right now if I ask you to make the case how is Jonathan Smith gonna turn this around I think the Jonathan Smith Believers would say this they would say well there were a lot of cancers in the locker room that weren’t very good there’s going to be a lot of rtion out we’re going to portal in a lot of help since we’re not recruiting that well year one we’re going to portal in a lot of help we’re going to keep childes in Marsh and we’re going to portal the help they need around them if that’s the cell isn’t the Dax so stacked against him when your instate rival has publicly announced they have a $50 million budget for transfers like so we we are basically asking Jonathan Smith to go head to ahead with that super the third richest man in the world and convince players to come play in East Lancing instead of an arbor like is is the hope that it’s just a totally different playing field like Jonathan Smith won’t go after those guys but I just how do you like it feels like that’s an unfair ask even of him it’s going to fail but even if you do it doesn’t matter I don’t have fate that he can he can do it with anybody yeah that’s the thing this isn’t like yes there are some Talent deficiencies on this team I don’t even think if he had Talent he would make it wor he would make it worth the he’s not a get the most out of his talent guy yeah I guess I’m just lost because I I thought he was going to build stuff differently like I thought he would recruit a little better and I thought the players he had would not be locker room cancers so if at the end of the year we’re saying yeah we got to get rid of our whole locker room and we’re not recruiting well then like okay so your plan is the portal your plan at Michigan State as Jonathan Smith is the portal when you’re in state rival has an unlimited $50 million budget that’s just a bad plan he was supposed to win a different way than that so I don’t know I I don’t know what you do like you said you probably give him child’s tenure but I mean Charles don’t care about the fans I don’t think the fans care about him that much right now um meanwhile Sam Lev taking his team to the Big 12 Championship yeah yeah yeah I don’t I don’t know it’s tough it’s tough all right well uh one to 10 put a cap on this season I guess grade it for Jonathan Smith this was a zero in your eyes one to 10 I’ll give him a three feels like a three to me yeah I’ll give him a three if it drops from a three to a two at the end of next year are you okay with firing him after two years I’d be okay with firing him now to be honest with you yeah I think it’s got you have to go from a three to a four next year at minimum in order to keep this job for me yeah and then
