John actually I was thinking about this people were like yeah it’s a little dormant last time something actually happened was when we had dinner and we were leaving that’s right that’s right so maybe something now that we’re together some Synergy we have got the band back together Ryan which means activity is gonna happen yeah I hope so but I wonder I wonder John in this case Soto move happens and everyone’s going okay great then the news that the Astros could move Kyle Tucker entertain the idea do you think that’s starting to slow up the market as teams are trying to evaluate or we’re just kind of in this Dead period for teams trying to decide who they want to go after it’s a great question Ryan I think a couple things are standing out to me right now number one there are there is a select number of teams who are really prepared to spend big and and so the agents are aware of this yeah and they’re trying to focus on Yankees Red Sox yes still the Mets still still some money to spend there there is no limit there’s no Li there’s no limit uh the Dodgers the Blue Jays to an extent maybe the Giants there’s a half a dozen teams there with really strong financial resources to make significant plays and so I think for Scott Boris for CA who has of course freed and some other key free agents Christian Walker as well they want to stay focused on on those big Market teams and hope that that continues to put some upward pressure on the on the the price points because when when you think about it consider Soto’s money yeah and then say well if a player is is half as valuable as Soo that’s a lot of money so so I think that there and real there’s probably not gonna be like a $380 million deal that that’s that’s signed again but yeah but the point is there are people making the argument that that my player should get one more year or one or two more million dollars a year than what you were expecting last week because the price of Poker has gone up for everybody I think that’s that’s one element of it the other piece what you’re talking about which is the the trade market that because there are a lot of teams who are not comfortable spending major dollars right now that all of a sudden trade pieces have become all the more important either because a you’ve got cost control or B if you’re a team like the Mariners yeah you might be open to moving a Lise Castillo because that’s your path to upgrading your lineup is to clear some money there and then bring in some bats so I think there’s a lot going on and and I would not I would not mistake a lack of transactions yeah for a lack of activity I think there’s a lot of conversation it’s just the teams are trying to sort things out uh about what all this means there’s a lot of different options that and then that’s not going to just come to fruition just like that and especially because now that we saw what the market was set at for stto and you’re right even though guys like santand tasar Hernandez or any other big Market big bat when they see a number thrown out there they they’re going to be enticed to hey we want to try to get a little bit more and if we don’t think that Deal’s there we’re gonna wait until one of you guys it’s almost like who’s gonna I’m not gonna say who’s gonna cave John because it’s not that case but how do you get to that point Who’s playing hard ball I feel like that’s part of the case here so I also make it makes me uh laugh Tyler O’Neal had a good deal with the Orioles but then you’re wondering if he waited a little bit longer could he have had a little bit more of money to spend well one thing I’m hearing I mean the Garrett crochet thing like that’s another trade piece they’re saying Baltimore is not in on that as much do you know anything about with Baltimore with when it comes to Gar crochet I think as long as there is a significant trade piece there on the starting pitching Market the Orioles will have a say on that you’re not you’re not buying that they won’t be interested you I think that they’re going to do their homework on it yes I’m I’m not buying that they’re out in any in any their their farm system is so good that and it’s not as deep as it was because you’ve had some guys graduate and some guys get traded yeah but their farm system is still good enough and their base of young players is still plenty good yeah that that it’s clear what they need there’s I guess I’ll put it this way Ryan there’s no way there’s no way with all due respect to the Orioles current pitching depth chart right there’s no way that they’re good enough without Corbin Burns to be able to say ah G crochet no thanks Dylan CE no thanks Luis Castillo no thanks they’re not good enough to do that right now they have got to my question is who’s going to start game one of a playoff series who’s gonna start game two who’s gonna start game three and game four and if you don’t have four robust names who are healthy you’ve got work to do and so my my answer there is with all due respect they’ve got work to do and and and so I I don’t buy for a second that they’re out because they’re they don’t have the luxury of being out I agree with that I’m just you help debunk things because we see reports out there all the time oh they wouldn’t be interesting just knowing personally how I know Mike Elias Works he’s going to do his homework he’s going to make sure now could they eventually be out on a guy down the road sure but they are a team that’s trying to upgrade their roster and right and they’re at a really good point to do it but also the entire American League East is trying to get better the Yankees are trying to figure out who they’re going to go after as well there’s a lot of options and then Toronto’s in that kind of weird spot where they want to be aggressive but they just haven’t able to land anybody then Boston’s kind of that I think Boston’s kind of a sleeping giant where I think that they are they overe exceeded last year and now they could make a run this year in this uh Al EAS that is going to continue to be competitive and Ryan they’ve got the capital with their prospects to do whatever they want to do okay Roman Anthony I don’t think is going anywhere nor Christian Campbell I think is going to be in the major leagues this year but they may be able to move Marcel Meer and if they can do that then that opens up a lot of possibilities for them perhaps even a Kyle teal behind the plate they’ve got the prospects again whether it’s gett crochet Dylan CE anybody else to be able to get into those conversations and and CE hearing his name today surprised me a little bit yeah I I don’t expect that the Padres are shopping him yeah but they maybe don’t have the same payroll resources they once did and so if they’re want if they want to add in different places trading cease to get multiple pieces back or to alleviate some payroll is is a good strategy and by the way they did that a year ago they traded the man that just got 765 yeah and they went to the playoffs and by many accounts were’re the toughest team the Dodgers faced so they have shown an ability to Pivot and get younger and maybe a little more Nimble and still win a lot of baseball games and so the Padre it’s that’s a fascinating thing right there but the Padres are in a good position but it’s also showing you can you can be strategic and they’ve been strategic where they are not afraid to spend money but they also know they try to get the right value that was a tremendous value to trade stto at the time it looks like they’re going to win that trade obviously when you’re looking at the Yankees and the Padres uh we’re with John morosi right now and John couple more things get you out of here uh we got to see the buzz that was around with RI Sasaki today I went into the media room back there and I’m like well wait who’s up there and they go wait oh that that’s sasaki’s agent that’s Joe wolf and so Joe wolf Joe wolf is having his hands full earlier on but so what are you hearing now that this he’s officially posted uh and the buzz that’s kind of surrounding with Sasaki right now it’s going to be a lot of fun to watch this story play out Ryan because he’s the rare player that is truly of interest and attainable to everyone right in the industry right and and Joel acknowledged today and we’ll see how it all plays out that Roki might want to sign with more of a middle Market team again he’s not necessarily going to go to the highest bidder because we it might be a question between $3.1 million 3.2 million this is this is a a constrained by the rules negotiation where it truly is about how comfortable he feels with the team with the organization with the coaching staff and and this is about Sasaki getting to the point where shohi was a year ago where he becomes this eminent player in MLB he enters free agency and that’s where the pot of gold is so it’s it’s about it’s all it’s almost Ryan comparable to a college player yeah who says I I want to go to the best baseball program football program basketball program to be able to make my money down the line what can you do to make me the best 28-year-old pitcher that I can be that’s the question so yeah the Padres I think are are really in that conversation because there is that relationship with with darish that’s real and I think that that that relationship could be if he ends up going to the Padres that could be the thing that tips the scale in their favor and that makes sense familiarity West Coast and yeah it does help that if you idolized a guy like darish why wouldn’t you want to be in that same vicinity of a guy that you have looked up to your entire career before I let’s you get out of here I mean I just gota you know this is just watching you walk down I swear you’re G to run into the pole again I thought we’re looking at that and there was a pillar heads down I’m like I don’t know where John’s going and I’m like is he G I was looking Brad I go are you is he G to run into it and then all of a sudden you just dodge yeah do you have like a a spider scent you did it you did it the night walking back from bar it was it was like a scene out of the Matrix it was viewed by the two of you that that’s it’s the only it’s the greatest athletic feed of my career but you’re doing it but once as luck twice the skill so you just trying to have your six sense around these lobbies I I covered my first winter meetings in this hotel 19 years ago and so I’m not saying that I’ve learned the steps of the lobby and remember him from 19 years ago but I try to be you got you notice I’m wearing my my hocus I’m wearing my my my walking shoes right now you gotta you gotta get your steps in you are getting your steps get your steps in and you and you you got to be a little athletic in places like this I’m not I’m not I’m not a Ripken but I try to be as athletic as I can be Ryan I’ll tell you what you you are you have to be the most athletic or Nimble Insider I’ve seen move around these halls and and what for everyone knows what you got coming up at least later today or or moving forward yes so at milb be back on hot stove which is at 10 amm eastern time nine o’clock here and then Thursday I I think Ryan the plan is I’m G to be the last guy here I’m staying till Thursday morning so I I will turn out the lights when I leave it’ll be just me and the amazing Hotel staff here that I’ll be that I’ll be chatting with by then I’ll I’ll be asking questions of people at Starbucks here uh trying to get my
