in this latest installment of news and rumors we’ve got the Cubs working on a trade the Oriol signed a starting pitcher not named Corbin Burns speaking of Corbin Burns we’ve got a mystery team from John hayon there’s a time frame update on Roki Sasaki and a lot of new tasar Hernandez details to get into let’s begin make sure to hit that like if you enjoy your time here we begin with the Cubs working on a trade for Jesus lazardo with the Miami Marlins from Bruce LaVine the Cubs are working hard on a lazardo deal and this is something that we’ve been hearing about for a couple of days so you have to wonder if we’re getting close to the finish line finish line could be a deal is done or they can’t come to an agreement and we just the we get to the finish line of the negotiations and a deal doesn’t happen but the Cubs here’s the point they went out and traded for Kyle Tucker what what did we say when the Yankees traded for juodo last year you go and get a player of that caliber and you only have one guaranteed year what does that mean 2025 for the Chicago Cubs like 2024 did for the New York Yankees mean it’s all in it is World Series or Bust It is Go Time so after parting with the Prospect Capital uh and ESO parades for Kyle Tucker if you’re the Cubs you have to keep pushing keep driving towards a World Series and grabbing a pitcher like Jesus lazardo would do that so I’m expecting a lot of cubs noise the rest of the way because again what that Kyle Tucker trade means for what the goal is and what you have to do to get to that goal in 2025 Cubs rotation right now does not lead me to believe this is a World Series or bust situation but we got to get there imaga like it steel good tyone good Boyd Assad look decent pitchers there in Boyd and Assad but we are trying to raise the floor we’re trying to raise the ceiling we’re trying to do both things here for the Cubs because what the bar the bar is the Dodgers the bar is three or four aces in your rotation and right now I’d say the Cubs have two Tone’s really good but he falls short of Ace level and then Boyd and Assad are nice mid to back end of the rotation pieces so we got to raise the floor we got to raise a ceiling we can do that with Jesus lazardo what’s a trade look like could we we get a deal done similar to what I’ve got on screen here Owen Cassie Kevin alcantra and Jackson Wiggins this is the number 34 and number 67 Prospect in all of baseball with Cassie and alcantra and Wiggins is the number nine prospect on the Cubs we have to be in the same general proximity to that white socks and Red Sox trade it’s not going to get to the same level this trade does not get to that level because lazardo finish the year on the injured list and I think at this point uh we’re we’re valuing gett crochet higher than we’re valuing Jesus lazardo so we’re not going to send the same package back but we got to be again in the general Saint proximity so this is a deal that is significant since two top 100 prospects and then one more top 10 Prospect in the Cubs organization to Miami for Jesus Lardo does this get it done Miami fans would you do this Cubs fans would you do this if you’re not a fan of either teams but you want a broker the deal are you given this your seal of approval comment down below we also had the Baltimore Orioles go out there and bring a starting pitcher on board something I had started to wonder about the possibility of them doing and I am I’m glad that I was wrong in this situation because something needed to be done Jeff pass reporting last night tomoyuki Sagano is on his way over over to Baltimore on a oneyear $13 million contract for the Orioles 35 years old interesting we’re going Sago here and not Verlander or Sherer or look if we’re looking for picturers that are um on board with a short-term contract a one-year deal or maybe a two-year deal uh there could have been some safer bets sigano has a has a terrific track record from overseas but what is he going to be here in the states we will find that out in a couple of months so a little bit of a gamble here but look at that price tag $13 million over here Verlander pictures like that they’re probably going to cost 2025 million orals fans where are you on this deal this is not Corbin Burns this is not going to be a guy that’s going to pitch like Corbin Burns is this falling short of what you wanted it’s something again I had started to worry that that Trevor Rogers deal and fan graph still has Trevor Rogers in the rotation for Baltimore the the the uh fangraphs website is not accounting uh for Kate Povich which I I got to think he’s in the equation uh Suarez moves to the swing roll I would if if I’m putting together the Orioles rotation I would have Povich at the back of this rotation effin Rodriguez Kramer Sano Povich Rogers Bullpen uh Suarez Bullpen those are the first two guys up if you need to go to a six-man rotation or somebody gets hurt uh then I’m going there first but I started to wonder if if Elias was dealing with a little bit of a pride issue this is a guy that gave up two pieces star and Norby for Rogers at the deadline and if you move Rogers out of the rotation you are admitting failure because those are two pieces out of your system and you brought in a broken pitchure bringing Sagano in does not necessarily mean Rogers is out because maybe poic starts the year at the miners we’ll see how this all plays out I’m spending way too long talking about this good job by the Baltimore Orioles adding Sagano is a nice piece I would like for them to have gone after a a more impactful a a more a pitcher with with some more certainty uh in terms of what we can expect next year but this is a good move this does increase the floor and maybe you believe it also raises the cealing I want to see what he does when he’s over here pitching to Major League caliber hitters speaking of Corbin Burns we had from John Haymon yesterday a mystery team he muddying the waters John Haymon did yesterday when it comes to the Corbin burn situation we all have heard Giant and blue jays as probably the two finalists but we we’re not we’re not there Ken rosenal a week ago thought a deal could happen and we’re still sitting here now we have uh John Haymon in his BR walkoff live stream bringing up the Rangers as a wild card or mystery team for Corbin Burns do we believe this after the Nathan naldi signing and all the money they already have wrapped up in Jacob De Grom are they going to go and spend to the degree that it is required to bring Corbin burns on board I can’t see it now maybe he’s just hypothesizing maybe he’s getting some information from somebody maybe he’s got a source that has some uh some some some leverage to be gained if this gains some momentum but at the end of the day I can’t see the Texas Rangers with their financial situation with that Jacob deg Grom contract sitting there adding more and uh and and bringing Corin burns on board from a fit perspective it’s there but from a financial perspective it seems like a stretch what do you guys think are the Rangers a real threat for Corbin Burns I don’t see it we did get a Roki Sasaki update it’s a quick one but it does give us an idea on the timing posted last week and according to the New York Post in-person meetings are expected to begin with perspective teams as soon as this week those teams obviously line up to have the Dodgers and the Padre’s in play it’ll be interesting as this progresses to find out who’s he taking meetings with is he taking meetings with small Market teams that has been a rumor that he would like to go to a small Market I’m not necess necessarily buying that but who’s he taking meetings week this is going to be a fascinating sweep Stakes that is about to kick up and T Oscar Hernandez is on the board here with a lot of information actually so here’s the first B of it coming from Dodgers territory Dave Roberts said the Dodgers are close to resigning T Oscar Hernandez that is on the bleed L’s podcast Dodger fans that’s everything you want to hear right I I got to think this is the number one at the very top of the wish list item is bringing teoscar Hernandez back understandably so what he does for that lineup how he impacts that Clubhouse and just how fun he is to watch he is a fan favorite wherever he goes and I know tasar Hernandez is awesome uh we had from the score and from other places uh that tasar Hernandez is reportedly looking for for a three-year contract in the 24 to 24 22 to $24 million range which he deserves after what he did last year this is very reasonable I worried that he would be looking for a four or fiveyear deal at $25 million but if we’re at three years $22 million get the deal done what he’s going to bring to the table for that amount of money for those amount of years in my opinion is worth it teams in on T Oscar Hernandez is another item that has been brought to light Hector Gomez tweeting teams that have shown interest in Teo Red Sox Phillies Yankees Blue Jays Dodgers and the Reds the Reds have been linked to a lot of high-profile names this off season which is an indication of their mindset they were linked to crochet their link to Luis Robert their link to tasar Hernandez adding some Outfield pop that’s a that is a big item for the Cincinnati Reds this offseason so I love to hear that they’re going for it you bring Tito Fran cona on board to manage the club you’re going to have high expectations and they’re trying to bring in some big talent to meet those high expectations I don’t know if the Reds can win the day here though because if it’s the Dodgers that are able to get to that three years and $22 million a year I would expect the Dodgers to have the advantage over the five other teams even his former team the Toronto Blue Jays the problem in Toronto is that Vladimir Guerrero Jr is not extended long term in a word from Hector Gomez over the weekend uh and Mike Rodriguez was that Tas or not Tasker vlat turned down an extension offer with the Toronto Blue Jays before the stto deal to the New York Mets so there is maybe a sticking point there uh the Yan sure would be a great fit but again if the Dodgers come in with the money he’s going to go back to the Dodgers if he has a choice between the Dodgers and the Yankees same with the Phillies same with the Red Sox Phillies and Red Sox I I understand why they’re both here Red Sox need the right-hander Red Sox need the pop the Philadelphia Phillies want to change things up but at the end of the day all the Dodgers have to do is get to three years $22 million a year and we’re good now the tricky part is tasar if he’s not interested in deferring any of that money that that may be a sticking point for the Dodgers can they come to an agreement if I had to pick a number two team out of this group I would probably pick I think I would probably pick the Philadelphia Phillies if I had to pick a number two team I think I would go Phillies they’re set up with that rotation to make a run and if they they’re healthy and the Dodgers are healthy heading into a postseason matchup it’s going to be just a it is going it is going to be a slugfest no it’s not going to be a slugfest because the pitching on both sides is Elite it would be an epic contest between the two regardless whether how whatever you want to term it it would be a great series and the Phillies could hang the Phillies could definitely compete so teoscar if he’s weighing his options out I think he would go Philly as maybe the number two team at least that would be my my pick those are the latest news and rumors swirling around Major League Baseball there are others but this is sort of top level stuff
