it is feeling like we could see a Cubs and Mariners trade go down during the winter meetings or maybe even as soon as this weekend reminds me of when we got the whiffs of a Reds and Royals trade a few days before they actually pulled the trigger on the singer for India deal we’re hearing a lot about Cubs and Mariners and this morning morosi was on MLB Network hot stove talking about the Cubs Mariners possibility is very real as we approach the winter meetings in this clip he talks about Cody Bellinger and Nico Herer as potential pieces may be headed together or uh solo to the Seattle Mariners and he talks about the Cubs eyeing that pitching that the Seattle Mariners currently have in their stable great pitching with years of control so what could the trade actually be it really depends is it niik Herer and Cody Bellinger is it only Cody Bellinger is it only niik Herer are there prospects involved to make things happen because as we’ll take a look at in this video the trade values for every single player that could potentially be involved that we are all familiar with all of the guys that we see every day again her Bellinger Castillo Kirby Miller Gilberts woo you run through them all the the the values are wildly different so putting together a trade is kind of an interesting task and we are going to attempt to do that in this video because again this feels like if we were to predict a trade that’s coming down the pipeline this would be it now let’s take a quick look at the pieces here Cody Bellinger with his 27.5 million contract for 2025 and a $25 million player option for 2026 coming off of a Down year and with all of the disappointment over the previous Seasons really 2023 was the bounceback and then around that season it has not been that good for Cody batting run value 72 perti isn’t terrible but for $27.5 million that’s too much money for a player with a batting run value 22% above League average Nico horer has 11 A5 million owed in 2025 and $12 million owed for the 2026 season which is fair value for what nicoo Horner brings to the table from a batting run value perspective he’s slightly above League average but when it comes to base running and Fielding you see 9 second and 88th percentile so we’re getting a really good player here in Nico horer not necessarily overpriced like Cody Bellinger is now the element here with Nico that maybe throws a wrench into the whole process is that he just underwent flexer tendon surgery on his right forarm so this off seon is going to be all about rehab to get ready for the 2025 season on the Seattle side of things Gilbert Castillo Kirby Miller Wu that’s what we’re targeting here those years next to each player’s name is the years under control and we could add an asterisk next to Luis Castillo because there is an option for the 2028 season as well so a lot of control a lot of talent very appealing to teams and if you are Seattle you are maybe consider considering moving a piece from this stable of pitchers to improve this situation because that group of pitchers it’s not good enough to make up for the shortcomings here I mean look if you had a good lineup if you had a productive nine then this is a team you put them in the postseason this is a rotation that could lead you to the World Series but these guys can’t keep up it can’t carry the weight that they need to so we have to make some improvements here Mitch hanar they’re kind of stuck with Mitch Third Base second base even shortstop Crawford could move so there are some uh there are some upgrades that can be had and need to be had this offseason for Seattle let’s talk about the trade values for all of these players and like I said at the beginning it wildly varies Cody Bellinger’s trade value is -6.8 Nico Horner’s at 21 million Castillo’s at 5.5 million because he’s got a pretty strong uh a pretty solid H contract that he’s running on right now I think it’s about $24 million a year for the next three years and then again there that option Gilbert Kirby Miller woo all very very high values placed on those four pitchers all of them in those arbitration years so how do we build the trade what could it look like I’m going to give you three different scenarios here the first one we’re going to send Louis Castillo and Ryan Bliss to the Chicago Cubs to make a deal workout where we send Cody Bellinger and Nico Herer to Seattle this gives us my baseball trade values trade evaluation machine 14.1 million in value going to the Cubs 14.2 million headed to the Seattle Mariners remember we have the negative value for Cody Bellinger so we have to to include we have a $21 million value for her the negative value for Bellinger does not get us close enough uh to to make this deal work from a Chicago perspective even though Cody’s carrying uh negative 6.8 million in in in contract value so you’ve got to add a prospect and if you’re looking at all of those options that Seattle has to include in a trade I feel like Ryan Bliss is the guy so many more infield prospects that are on the way Bliss could be Expendable at this point and if you are the Cubs to bring him back in to get a position player a young underc contr control position player that you can work into the equation you don’t have to promise or or or slot him into everyday playing time maybe he earns that could be a good option so this ultimately gets Castillo to the Cubs gets them and Ace and gets the Cody Bellinger money out of the way and gets Nico horer out of the way opens up room for Matt Shaw so we sort of are addressing all sorts of needs with this trade Cubs fans Mariners fans uh non-bs or Mariners fans that that that want to broker this trade for us comment down below are you doing this trade let’s go to the next one let’s clean the board and let’s try a different trade because maybe Chicago doesn’t want Luis Castile maybe Chicago wants Logan Gilbert wants to grab one of the arbitration pitchers and Logan Gilbert we we look look you’re going to see this in a minute we can’t go Kirby it just can’t do it and you’re going to see there’s some trouble with the Logan Gilbert trade you would have to go Herer Wix ballos and Al Mantra to get to a way to get to a trade package that according to baseball trade values would get Logan Gilbert to the Chicago Cubs and I think that’s too much while the values are close 77.3 million going to the Cubs in Gilbert and 74.3 going to Seattle with that package of players it’s still feels like too much for Logan Gilbert I wouldn’t want to do that I’d go back to that Lou Castillo trade but again maybe the Cubs in all of this they don’t want the Lise Castillo contract so let’s go and clear the board again let’s try another one this time we’re going to go Bryce Miller so we’re coming down remember it was 77 million for Logan Gilbert we were at a very easy to get to $50 million value for Bryce Miller actually 552 million value for Miller so we can trim that package down by removing about 25 million in value that was assigned to uh to to to Logan Gilbert in this package it is Nico Horner going to Seattle Wix and alcantra we can remove uh who were we removing at this point we’re throwing so many names around here balleros we are able to remove him from the deal as we try to bring Bryce Miller over and Bryce Miller remember all of those years of control that we were looking at here you have Miller until 2029 you have Gilbert until 2027 and then he’s reaching fore agency there’s no options at that point Miller might actually be the play even though Gilbert I feel like is I mean this is my opinion here I feel like Gilbert is a top of the rotation arm Miller is still establishing that he could be that but with all of that control feels like that could be a good way for uh the Cubs to go here as they’re looking to improve that rotation and open up a spot for Matt Shaw you get Nico Herer off and onto a new team new opportunities for him if you’re Seattle you’re getting Wick so you’re getting a pitcher that she can work into the rotation and you’re getting a prospect in alcantra this feels like a win-win we have 52.5 million in value headed to the Cubs and 54.7 million in value headed to the Seattle Mariners so how this Cubs and Mariners trade actually goes through is sort of up in the air there are a lot of different uh iterations and a lot of different ways that this could go down and really that’s the point of this video is to highlight that fact that it could go in a number of different ways leave your comments down below what do you think the trade is going to be between the CBS and the Mariners what do you like the most when it comes to the trade package if you’re the Cubs if you’re the Mariners looking to
