[Music] yeah I hate to break it to you but you’re not going to like this there are a bunch of videos that we could go out there and make because a bunch of names have been linked to the Detroit Red Wings from various controversial coaches of yester year to other top tier trade targets but in this video what I wanted to do was dive into an article published on the athletic by Max boltman this will be linked in the description could an inseason trade help the wings here are four potential trade candidates it’s going to be linked in the description you can’t go out there and look at this yourself because it’s behind a pay wall but if you do have the athletic then hey it’s available to you right there the preview image though has a picture of a guy that look I’m going to be honest I don’t know if David EK has been traded yet I am recording this video the night before and it’ll be pre-schedule uploaded at 10:00 a.m. PST so if there is some sort of a yearo che trade we will talk about that later in today’s show however I wanted to go over one of the names that Max bolman writes about in terms of the Detroit Red Wings and a potential trade this was written about in the article and it also was summarized on Redwings insider.com this was by Jack Sutherland it will also be linked in the description because this article transcribes a lot of the comments from the athletic piece it’s just this one is not behind a pay wall so let’s go out there and read the scoop as to what the article goes out there and talks about it starts out by talking about how some of the recent Red Wings wins have been low scoring wins the wings are ranked at the bottom of the NHL and goal scored while not on the main advantage and their record of 810 and2 reflects that sobering statistic in a major way what are the chances that GM stvy decides to shake things up and make a move to acquire some badly needed scoring Talent next bolman of the athletic is suggesting one player that the wings could Target and this name is Trevor zis here is what boltman wrote about in the piece as quoted by the Red Wings Insider article despite a quiet start and coming off a rocky season Z is a proven producer in the NHL and the wings are hurting for offense he already has two 60 plus Point seasons on his resume and his combination of vision and skill gives him the potential to go beyond that number he also fits the age range with morett cider and Lucas Raymond perfectly yeah I wonder why he was taking just three picks after more at cider in 2019 after all Boldman even noted that Z’s playmaking abilities could come in handy in the event of Patrick Kane’s departure during the offseason or even before and though Z’s profile might be a little redundant to the Wing’s current forward makeup in the top six obvious skill but question marks defensively and in the hard areas they’re going to need a playmaker like him whenever Patrick Kane moves on which could happen as soon as this summer or even the trade deadline here’s the thing if you go over to zis and his overall profile for 2024 2025 you’re not going to be too impressed I mean the guy has himself eight points 20 games played he’s got three goals on the year so he’s on Pace for a 33o season which would be half of what he was capable of doing in Prior years it’s definitely not in the same territory and I think a lot of Anaheim Ducks fans have been kind of on the fence about him and his development it’s kind of unfortunate it really is because everybody thought that Z would eventually develop into this number one dangler he’s got that potential to being I don’t want to say like a Patrick Kane like guy Patrick Kane had a 100 Point Season he had nard Ross I don’t think zagas was ever going to attain that but maybe 80 90 points if you were lucky plus some highlight re dangles year in and year out now sure the guy gets the dangles once in a while but he definitely doesn’t have the same Effectiveness nor the same conversion rate like he had in Prior years I think a lot of that has to do with the way the Anaheim Ducks want to play what Pat for beak is building the kinds of talents that he’s taking like the Mason McTavish and the Leo Carlson’s and the cutter goes big powerful forwards guys who can not back down who drive hard zis doesn’t necessarily do that he’s a little bit smaller he doesn’t like to attack the middle of the ice with big intensity he likes to play on the perimeter and make more Nifty dangles and plays there to open up space which is a totally acceptable way to play it’s just not the same as how Mesa McTavish and cutter go and them play but if you really wanted to say that that type of a profile would be valuable to the wings post Patty cane you want to cut and paste the kind of guys that would be able to fill that role hey guess what Trevor egris is right in there but of course I mean the GU making just under $6 million a year until 2026 he’s going to need an extension whether or not he’s able to actually bring value to get an extension that has a pay raise that’s really up in the air whether or not he’ll be able to do more with Detroit versus Anaheim is also a thing to consider I also did like how Max boltman is very direct in saying that a lot of this has to do with the profile of the ages here it is the timeline it is the fit if you think about Patty Kane Kane admittedly has not been great this season he’s at 10 points in 20 games played he is almost at the same point production metric that Zas is at right now so if you cut in Pace Kane out zis in you’re literally shaving off what is that 13 years because Patty Kane’s 36 years old and if you’re getting similar production then why not go out there and make this sort of a move of course this would be with the idea in mind that Patty Kane is not going to last forever and that he’s not going to stay with the wings forever I don’t think anybody’s really projecting him to have any any sort of a long-term future with this team but it is intriguing how that is one of the Avenues you could explore here if you just wanted to talk about stylistic fits I mean having ZR to bring catch sounds like a pretty good idea I’d like the sound of that for sure but of course it’s all based on ideals you have everything that needs to work out in order for it to work and that’s like the stupidest thing I’ve said this week and believe me I’ve said some pretty stupid things this week you just got to believe if zis is able to get back over to that 60o form that he had a few years ago I think it is a little bit premature to think that he’s not ever going to be able to do that again but you also do have to acknowledge the guy is pretty washed compared to those moments in the past he’s definitely not the same caliber of player right now if you think there’s an opportunity for him to get more out of his own game in Detroit then you can let me know your thoughts in the comment section below also there is an interesting thing that was talked about in the athletic piece this wasn’t discussed in the Red Wings Insider commentary but the article does go over whether or not Pat for beak would be interested in helping out Steve Eiserman considering the fact that they were together in Tampa Bay and that does sort of bring itself back up into the Red Wings and lightning conversations too because everybody talks about how Steve Eiserman oh he makes trades with the lightning and he acquires lightning guys and he has these connections to his former team Pat for beak doesn’t necessarily do the same thing but because there is a connection between those two guys in particular you kind of have to wonder if there would be any comfort in making some sort of a move I would understand if there was I would also understand if there wasn’t the article also talks about how Steve Eiserman hasn’t necessarily drafted guys that are like zis in the past few years too I mean you think about all the guys the wings have taken from the I don’t know the Marco caspers to the Danielson to the what’s the guy they got right now Branson nard that’s who it is Michael Brans nard all kind of similar players not necessarily like the bigger rough tough Leo Carlson Mesa McTavish of the world but more stable two-way defensively minded presences zis isn’t really that and I think it’s the same old conversation that we always have about this dude that you really can’t ignore at this point so let me know your thoughts in the comments section below whether or not you do feel like zis is an appropriate ad for this Redwing team Steve Eiserman does he go out there and deal with his former rightand man or do you think this is a total wash and we should instead focus on some of the other dudes that boltman links over to Detroit thoughts in the comment section below I hope you enjoyed this vsh as99 and bye [Music] [Music]
