if this is what all five games in the NBA are going to look like on Christmas day sign me up because the garden did not disappoint the Spurs and Knicks going down to the wire with New York pulling out A7 to 114 win Mel Bridges 41 points you see on the left part of your screen Victor wanyama making his Christmas Day game debut 42 points but spoiled in the effort as a big second half especially the third quarter saw New York come out on top in a very very fun and fast-paced game let’s continue that conversation now and bring in our NBA expert John Gonzalez and John I feel like maybe like 20 minutes ago we were very ready to be able to talk about wimy wimy wimy and what he was doing but Mel Bridges said no this is my home court I’m going to show you that I still can shoot threes how crazy of a game was this for the Knicks to be able to come back from being down seven at the half to get that three-point dub yes that good start to a day full of basketball on Christmas Day I think it was super encouraging for the Knicks right because male Bridges there were some consternation some hand rigging some Pearl clutching earlier this season from NBA experts maybe even one that you’re talking to right now about what’s going on with Mel bridges’ shot especially from three it looked a little wonky there was a hitch in it not today uh season High 41 points he had a massive fourth quarter and again the most encouraging thing here is that he goes 6 for9 from three and on a day one yeah you and me and everybody else is talking about Victor wanyama this and Victor wanyama that and look at how good he looks in the garden and this is his Christmas debut all of a sudden Here Comes Mel Bridges and goes oh yeah don’t forget about me and don’t forget about the Knick there’s a reason we’re the third best team in the Eastern Conference and we’re on the come and we’re playing really well right now yeah this was just something that was just back and forth for a second it looked like the Spurs were going to really pull this one out uh they were getting contributions from a little bit of everyone but in the end that Knicks team what do you think is is the key because obviously like Wy gets all the attention but like you mentioned this is a Knicks team that has a much better record that’s been playing a lot better basketball than the Spurs have this year yeah second best offense in the NBA this year and you’ve seen the addition of Carl Anthony towns to that team has really changed the complex the complexion of that team last year it was all about defense for the Knicks tibs loves to play hard in those defense loves to run his guys into the ground well Carl Anthony towns that two-man game with Jaylen Brunson opens up so much and he had a pretty good night tonight uh he ended up in foul trouble and and ended up missing a good chunk of the fourth quarter but that Nicks team that offense has been completely unlocked by Carl Anthony towns and Jaylen Brunson and and it leaves guys like Mel Bridges much more open shots better looks right and it wasn’t falling for male Bridges earlier in the season it certainly has been recently and definitely today I just want to finish here on that stat line from wimy 42 points 16 of 31 from the field six of 16 from tryand we know how good he is but for him to do this on Christmas day granted not being a victory but how maybe crucial or good is this for the league that I feel like is just in desperate need of some sort of jolt with the ratings being what they are right now to see Wendy come and do this on the stage where was the only game in town being played at that time yeah we’re looking at the next face of the league a guy who’s really the face of the league right now he’s only 20 years old he’s going to be 21 right after the new year and for him play like this on Christmas day in front of everybody when there has been a little bit of worry and concern about NBA ratings although I think that’s been a little bit overblown it’s massive for the league because this kid is unbelievable I 42 and 18 rebounds and then him going six for 16 from three there are a lot of people earlier in the season that weren’t really thrilled with his shot diet that thought he was taking too many threes well I thought hey he’s young he’s just figuring out what he could do let him take whatever shot he wants because a year or two from now it is over for the rest of the league this is a GU Zach who is going to be most likely the defensive player of the year this year and probably for the next I don’t know four five six seven more years and then for him to be able to figure out what he can do offensively and do it like this where he’s basically unguardable anywhere on the floor including from Beyond The Arc yeah this is huge for the League this guy is not just the face of the uh the league next year year after right now really yeah had a block of a Jaylen Brunson shot they originally called go tending they went and reviewed and said no that ball was still going up that is a clean block and uh like you mentioned we are in for a good slate here of the NBA we’ll get ready for the Timberwolves and Mavs that game that is up next
