in a nailbiter a game that came down to the last second literally the last second in fact I think it uh Nas Reed had a chance to win the game a three-pointer but at the top of the key I don’t know if he even got it off in time it was going to be a split second thing you review it but he missed it anyway it was a really interesting game for a lot of reasons legs what stood out to you though most in this one well a bunch of things I think first of all um the way that Jaylen Brown started the game let’s start with that yep because has any player ever literally ever in the history of this league had a faster start than Jaylen Brown did in this game guy made five threes in a row to start the game he had the Celtics first 15 points he’s five for five for the three and I think let’s see that was all in three minutes and 34 seconds of playing time Jaylen Brown was five for five from the three and had a 156 lead over Minnesota so I’ve never personally and I don’t know I didn’t see any data on this during game I haven’t read about any today did you see any dat us has anybody has anybody ever scored more points in the first three and a half minutes of a game in history man I don’t know that’s a that’s an interesting one I mean it was every Possession It find that I probably should have put some put some uh little research into that myself be but I was still in mourning over my commander so I didn’t really wasn’t in the mindset to dig through numbers this morning but I I mean you know can you imagine a guy having more than 15 points at three and a half minutes to start a game and it was might it might have been in five possessions I I’d have to go back and look but it it was all in a row so it wasn’t like it was you know the team was struggling he just was scoring on every play uh I’m looking at it right now it looks like uh it looks like Drew Holliday and Al Herford are the only other two guys that took shots in that stetch they both missed okay so five out of seven possessions you get 15 points that’s pretty good just insane I mean the guy came out cooking you know he got one going on his first first trip you know guys like that especially in in this league now where all these high scoring Wings you know if if you come out and make one on your first trip your first shot of the game you pretty much are given now free license to shoot that shot all night as money as you want and anyway so that’s the first impression like I just I don’t know the the data on this we know guys have scored you know that many points in stretches of the game before right I mean Tracy McGrady scored 13 in like 34 seconds or something one time so we know stuff like that’s happened but I’m talking about right out of the gate as a player scored 15 points on five shots in the first three and a half minutes of game I’m gonna go out there and say no nobody’s ever done that before so that’s how the game started and then it was you know Minnesota came back early in the game but then Boston established control they had a double digit lead most of the game and then Minnesota hung in there to their credit man they kept defending I thought Boston’s offensive uh shot selection which is their one Achilles heel that this team has they will let you back in the game because they will just not stop shooting Threes And if you string together three or four misses you know you got a chance against them now look obviously there’s lots of knights they make their share of those during that same stretch and you you you know the game’s over but it’s the one glimmer of hope you have is if they take the quick ones and they continue to take the quick ones at some point if you’re just within arms length they’re going to miss a few and give you a chance to get back in the game and even the way Boston tried to like end the game I talked about Jaylen Brown Starting the game that way Adam well that doesn’t necessarily mean you have to go to a step back 30-footer up to when you know one basket ices the game and that set up Minnesota for the last possession of the game and whether Naz got that off in time or not I’m not even sure what they ended up deciding it didn’t matter because it didn’t go in but you know and I’m gonna get into that last possession more in a second but Boston to again they let him back in it even on that last possession a very difficult shot out of Jaylen Brown they milk as much clock as they can and you go to a step back 30-footer legitimately misses it gives Minnesota an opportunity at the end of the game try to run a play to win the game so I give Minnesota credit for hanging in there man because Boston hit played well Boston played hard they competed defensively and I thought Minnesota really showed some toughness in this game yeah but I don’t know that either team was very smart in the way that they closed the game yeah and it was interesting the play I think you’re referring to down the stretch because there were some shots down the stretch for Boston that you didn’t love but the very last one there’s a difference between game clock and shot clock so you know Minnesota’s going to get the ball back you’re up two and I believe what happens if if it’s the exact same play I’m thinking about Jaylen Brown they run the guard to guard screen action both kind of Anthony Edwards is on Jaylen Brown he gets switched off and they both kind of go towards Jaylen Brown and Drew holidays wide open at the top of the key for a short window it had to been a quick swing which is what they always do by the way guard to guard action action if you put two on ball they swing it quick and that’s a quick three he didn’t do it there and I thought it was an obvious moment to swing the ball to him and he didn’t do it and I remember thinking to myself are you just trying to run a little bit extra clock that would make sense don’t give Minnesota as much time as you can or was that just a little bit more of a I got this moment and that’s big my always been my question with the Celtics was that system that they run is easier to do early in a game and it’s easier to do when you’re up a little bit harder late so I just I took note of that because he takes a shot and misses it and obviously the game goes how it goes but is that what you’re talking about like that specific play and a few plays like that in the clutch where what makes them good kind of went away went more towards all right let me just make a play to close this thing yeah to me that’s exactly what it was and it was like going for the kill shot you know at the end of the game and they run that action and obviously look you got I guess it was about maybe a seven eight second difference something like that yeah um Julius R got a layup to cut it to two and then Boston gets the ball they call timeout so they they’ve got this opportunity now to I think it was seven eight seconds difference in the shot clock all right so that’s not to me that’s not that’s leaving Minnesota too much time to say we’re gonna run this thing all the way down and take a shot that’s way too much time for Minnesota to have left you know if that’s 27 seconds is all that’s left in the game after the Randall layup and you can run that thing all the way down take a shot even when the ball traveling in the air hits the rim comes off if Minnesota secures it they’ve probably got less than two seconds that’s different you kind of go okay that’s smart you don’t want to shoot too early in that case but when you got a seven eight second shot clock difference it seems to me that you just want to get a quality look and Jaylen Brown ends up with Rudy gar on him in that possession on the right wing you got one shootter in the corner Drew Halliday at the top of the key you know both of those guys kind of stayed home and I get Jaylen Brown can you know get that off against Rudy Gober he hit him with like a little crossover and then a big broad jump backwards to separate and Rudy G is not going to be quick enough to stay with that but he’s still 73 or whatever he is he he reached out got a hand up and it to me it’s just such a bad way to try to decide the game and you gave Minnesota a lot of time now it’s interesting there Adam by the way the ball comes off Dante d d chenzo runs down the loose ball he starts heading up the floor it looks like to me they’ve got a pretty good spacing situation in transition so that’s a tough Gray there for a head coach oh sometimes you know you already made up in your mind you’re going to call time out or not and you tell your team that sometimes you kind of look at it what it looks like really quick that’s a split second decision I thought they had something pretty good going up the floor there was nobody in front of D chenzo probably all the way to half court and now maybe Boston gets in scramble mode they miscommunicate who’s stopping the ball maybe he get something quicker they call timeout after d venzo I thought it was after he was already dribbled so I was like oh man they’re gonna take this all the way in the back court they did give it to him before the dribble so you get it at half court get into Anthony Edwards I don’t like the way his decision either he drives on Jaylen Brown he had an angle on him to jump into his chest at the rim and get fouled he elected to kick it out ball gets swung around and Nas Reed misses that deep three at the buzzer I thought Anthony Edward should have taken that ball into Jaylen Brown’s chest he had a half a step on him you gotta you as as a scorer in this league you got to jump and force somebody to make a call at The Rim I don’t like the fact that he kicked that out to the corner it comes back around NZ re you run out of time um so I didn’t like the way Boston closed the game I didn’t like Minnesota’s last possession really either uh and ultimately the Celtics win the game and I thought for the most part Boston outplayed that yeah yeah I would agree with that if we go to the other side I’m kind of interested here for Tom nowe spe for speech speech [Music] spee speech [Music] foree speeech speech fore fore foreign speech speech
