what’s going on YouTube and welcome back to goal line hockey it’s your boy Kevin Forte and today we’re taking a look at the New York Rangers as their season has kind of gone sideways here over the last two or three weeks and uh we’re going to discuss the recent rumors around Jacob trouba Chris krider and all the stories around the slumping mik aad and some of the other things about the Rangers what could the Rangers be looking to do to kind of turn things around we’re going to discuss that here in today video so the New York Rangers recently went on a four game losing streak uh they broke that the other night so now they’re back in the win column for the first time in a little while but the Rangers record here 139 and one to start the season and you’re quickly seeing with how competitive the Metropolitan Division is right now the Rangers currently find themselves fifth in the Metropolitan Division they’re currently tied with the p with the flyers in fourth but technically the Flyers terms of the head head and kind of the way the points go uh technically they are fifth in the division right now they are six points away from Carolina which would be the third spot in the Metro and they’re two points ahead of the Blue Jackets which are sixth in this Division and if you want to look even scarier they’re three points back of the Penguins and the Islanders Who currently sit at seventh and eighth in the Metropolitan Division so what’s going on with the Rangers so this there’s a lot to kind of dissect with the Rangers and what’s interesting is when all these rumors kind of started with the rangers they were actually playing okay they were still in a spot they were on a three- game uh like they were on a two or three game losing streak at that point and like things didn’t look great for the Rangers but it wasn’t one of those things where it’s like oh [ __ ] but it definitely seems like that tide has turned for the Rangers um you know the five uh yeah the 5 to1 loss in Calgary a 6 to1 loss against the Oilers a 7 to1 loss against the St Louis Blues they’ve just oh God I’m sorry guys that’s not how they lost I apologize I completely got the scores wrong two to3 loss to Calgary 6-2 loss to the Oilers that was a bad loss and then the blues lost 5 to2 so a little bit of a different score but still nonetheless they lost by multiple goals in those games and then the most recent one against the Flyers that was a 3 to1 loss in Philly on Black Friday that was an important game game and that’s a game that when the Rangers look back later in the season that’s a four-point game that’s two points that the Rangers didn’t get and that’s two points that a team they could be competing with there in the Eastern Conference or you know for a wild card spot or potentially a spot in the Metropolitan Division maybe even home ICE advantage that’s a tough loss early in the season for the rangers they finally are able to come over their issues against the team they’ve done pretty well against this season in the Montreal Canadians as they beat the have 4 to3 schedule doesn’t really lighten up too much here though for the New York Rangers looking at their schedule they take on the Devils that’s going to be a big game against the Devils on December 2nd which is tonight if you’re watching this video now uh they play the Pittsburgh Penguins later this week I will be at that game at Madison Square Garden on Friday night so that’s going to be a really fun game the Rangers have a couple of days off here after this game against the Devils to kind of figure things out and maybe make a trade even or call somebody up there’s a lot of things the Rangers will be able to do this week then they take on Seattle and Chicago so they have a couple of home games against teams from the West that are not in a playoff position right now then they have to head up to Buffalo another non-playoff team Los Angeles Kings at home then they have to take on a couple of those teams in the central they head to St Louis Nashville and Dallas to kind of wrap things up right before Christmas um yeah it’s one of those things for the Rangers where when we’re talking about rumors about trouba krier and maybe Zab benad but I think based off of how he’s playing right now he’s very snake bitten and um you know especially in that Philly game he basically had it the corner of the net open and two years ago Zena Jed scoring that goal 99 out of 100 times but it just seems like it’s in his head a little bit and he’s slumping right now in a really bad time for the Rangers and you know I think their goal is four is 15th in the league that’s kind of low for what we expect from the Rangers but again that’s that lack of production from a guy like zabad or krider and things like that and that’s kind of causing other issues for the rest of the team their defense team-wise their team defense it looks good uh it’s fifth in the league for goals against but when you watch the Rangers games this reminds me a lot of old Rangers hockey that I’ve seen in the Henrik lanquist era Rangers teams that are carried by their goenda shurin and no longer lanquist dragging teams to the Conference Finals dragging teams potentially to The Cup final but the lack of goal scoring in the playoffs and the lack of just team defense this is kind of what this Rangers team looks like right now and they have all the intangibles on this team you look at this roster this is a good Rangers roster historically the last couple of years you look at some of the guys they’ve had like heo tro that have come in zaban Jad right they have some really good pieces here that would make you think this team should at the very least be a playoff team and really going even further than that a team that’s competing for a Stanley Cup and and going on a cup run they have made a couple of little changes over the last couple of days here we’ve seen Brett barard get his first couple games at the National Hockey League level and we’re even going to see a little bit of Adam edstrom from Harford so the Hartford wolf pack uh some of their their troops coming up to play for the Rangers we’ll see how it goes this week because like I said this is going to be a little bit of a reset for the Rangers here this week and that’s why I wanted to make this video now because kind of the Dust is settled a little bit on those rumors about krider and trouba but those are definitely things that there’s a reason that the Rangers coaching staff is lulette in trouble probably not and maybe that’s why Scott Gord came out and kind of is making these rumors apparent to other teams because I think for lavet sake I think lavet in his second season he’s probably safe I don’t think the issue is Lavette I think it’s the guys around him and the guys on this team just not really working right now and they’ve lost a lot of pieces and they’ll probably lose more coming forward because Ryan lingren signed a one-year deal he’ll probably be gone next year he’s going to probably get his he’s going to get his contract at some point whether it’s with the Rangers or somebody else um Keandre Miller he’s going to be getting his paycheck right so the Rangers are in that spot where it’s kind of relyant on chest Durkin right now and they need to make some kind of change to maybe just change up the room a little bit keep guys on their toes keep them on edge and maybe the Rangers will find a little bit more success I will say the good thing as long as it stays the course eigor cherkin play has been incredible and you really want to see that continue he’s got a 913 save percentage a 936 save percentage from Jonathan Quick at the ripe young age of 39 years old it’s really nice to see those two guys playing really well but it’s frustrating because you’re seeing the team in front of them not really doing what they need to do in order to kind of be convincing their fan base and the management that they are a legit cup Contender this year and when you look at paner he’s got 28 points this season playing well will cly second on the team for points this year he’s got 20 points this year he’s almost a point per game he’s been a really nice Story coming out of the Big Apple this year uh as much as zad has not been his himself he still has 17 points this season a lot of those being assists he’s got 12 assists um you know a minus 14 and a minus 10 for zabat and La reier obviously that’s a reason for concern and usually we don’t look too much at the plus minus but when it’s that egregious like okay a guy is a minus two he might have had an off night and that’s the minus two but when it’s aus4 and a minus 10 there’s obviously more to the story there for those two particular players right now in lafer and Zed with that said I want to know what you guys think like what are your guys thoughts on the Rangers right now because I think the Rangers I mean the rumors about them maybe bringing on a guy like ifny Malin and things like that I don’t think the penguins are ready to make that move yet ESP especially in their own division maybe as we get closer to the trade deadline that rumor gets brought up again then again the the salary is going to have to come out because the Rangers do not have the money if they’re going to make a move like bringing in a guy like Malin they’re going to need to move one of those contracts whether it’s you know krider or trouba or both you’re going to have to move out money to bring in a player of that caliber um so
