we have lots to discuss in today’s video all kinds of new information here in today’s rumor we’re going to be examining the Vancouver Canucks a little bit further here today not only do we know about the you potential Rift between Miller and Pon but we saw an after hours Hockey Night in Canada segment featuring Jim Rutherford which kind of enlightened us to the possibility that they may not be bringing back Brock besser there’s certainly some differences between player and team desire on contracts we’re going to discuss that whole scenario what’s going on with Vancouver Plus we saw Capal cackle be a healthy scratch for the Rangers today in a surprising move some people are speculating wondering if a trade is imminent we’ll discuss that possibility plus the future of Nick eers in Winnipeg what does the future hold for the potential UFA coming this summer plus we have several LEL updates around the league including a fine from player safety several injury updates and a USHL has called an emergency meeting we’ll discuss all lot and more coming up next so welcome back to another video here at Top Shelf hawky as I mentioned we have lots to discuss here today another very interesting news day uh lots of rumors floating around from the course of the weekend you know all the weekend action we saw around the NHL uh of course today was another busy day of games but of course most of the games are all wrapped up early here tonight let’s get started first with news from the Department of NHL players safety we saw the Toronto Maple Lees battle the Detroit Red Wings this weekend and we saw uh the Red Wings actually pull off a big victory over Toronto uh the maple Lees did bounce back today and pick up a big win over the Buffalo sabes uh who have now lost 10 straight games what’s going to happen in Buffalo you got to expect something has to give there some kind of a change they got to try something right they brought up Devon Levi today that’s as far as they got they still end up losing the game although Levi I thought played relatively well but in the game against Detroit in Toronto uh joh Beren ended up getting fine $2,148 for crosschecking leas forward Connor de which came up and got him in the head now I know lead fans are not happy about this they were expecting a suspension and I think they were expecting a multi-game suspension a lot of them which I’m not sure it was justified but I’ve seen a number of elite fans on social media comparing it to the Morgan Riley suspension that he got based off the cross check to Ridley Greg after the famous or now infamous flap shot into the open cage for the send to wrap up the game of course that’s you know gotten a lot of attention and well we know that Riley faced a five-game ban for his actions although I don’t see it as the same thing I think that was more of a premeditated scenario uh whereas this was a battle in front of the net and a stick that got up a little bit too high I don’t know that he intentionally tried to get him in the head he did did he make a mistake and go too high sure he did and he did make head contact UM so I I thought it might be at least the one gamer but a fine is what it is Department of player safety can be quite difficult to predict lately here but that’s where that one stands and I know Leaf fans are not too pleased uh in Minnesota today they recalled goalie yesper won Philip gusterson apparently was getting checked out um needing a little bit of time away I’m not sure what the outcome will be of that and if gust is going to miss any additional time uh of course this next week will be busy and after that teams are going to have a bit of holiday break so uh we’ll see but walstead was making his uh his debut for this current season uh of course you know the Young net Miner should be with the team full-time next year after the upcoming pending retirement a veteran and one of the greater goenda Mark Andre flurry the utat Senators today announced a couple of moves uh one they recalled gender Levy marinan uh of course Anton forsberg as we discussed yesterday uh was hurt uh during pregame preparation you could say cuz he didn’t even make it onto the ice for for warm-ups uh he apparently injured himself or did something happen in the gym before warmups when he was prepping for the game um we don’t know the full extent he’s still being evaluated um I would suspect it’s probably not too long term but you really don’t know cuz we don’t really know what happened but Marina has been recalled the Senators have an upcoming nine-game road trip that is going to be broken up uh after a bit of a you know break go to go home for Christmas uh they’ve got four games coming up they play Seattle and Calgary this week and then they have a back-to-back next weekend I believe it’s Vancouver Evington and then they’ve got four five days off for Christmas then they go back out on the road for another four or five before they return home um into like the first week of January um because of the world juniors being in Ottawa so clearly they need to make sure they have enough players with them for their trips but forsburg will not travel with the team at least not in the beginning if he’s able to join him later on then he will fly out and meet up with them and they’ll probably send Marine back but for right now he’s there and they did note ostapchuk was returned to the American hocky League today which I don’t know if that indicates David pan is ready to return or if OAB Chu is um just kind of being papered down on the off days here to kind of reduce their cap hit um obviously they were bringing up Mar linan today you know that’s probably more than anything a cat move but we’ll find out as we get closer to the Senators playing in Seattle on Tuesday night and like I said in Buffalo they recalled Deon Levi he played today uh unfortunately didn’t get the win I thought he played relatively well uh the Sabers got off to a hot start made some great plays the Leafs were not uh awake early on in that game they get a a quick two nothing in the lead but then eventually took over scored three goals in like two and a half two minutes and 45 seconds something like that just bing bing boom and then the lead in the lead and never Lo back um so yeah so that’s that’s not good for Buffalo 10 straet uh and the Leafs also I’m not sure if I mentioned this yesterday but Anthony stolar is officially on injured reserve uh he will miss at least another game because they have to be on IR for at least 7 days before being activated so those are your injury updates here for today I’ve also seen word here just a short time before I started to record that the USL uh has called an emergency owners meeting we don’t know exactly when this meeting is going to take place but where it’s being labeled emergency I would suspect probably tomorrow of course we know the USHL in case you’re not familiar is a high level Junior League you know it’s comparable to Major Junior Hockey in Canada in it’s basically that version in the United States of course with all the changes we’ve seen announced recently that’ll allow uh CHL players to still have their NCAA eligibility um it’s making a lot of changes across the whole landscape of development lower level hockey especially the junior ranks um see before the USHL would attract a lot of top talent whether it be cuz you know even American born players have always have a history there’s a long history of some of the top talents going to Canada for junior hockey as well right I mean it’s happened to some of the great players like you look at Matthew kachak did it Patrick Keane you know lots of guys have um but you know if they want to go to college they couldn’t do that before so they the USHL would get those those players and they would you know same thing with Canada they they would get top players from Canada that would want to go on to play in the NCAA too but now those players don’t have to go that route they can still play in the CHL um until they’re you know 18 19 years old and then make the move to NCAA for a few years before turning pro so it really changes the whole landscape here uh there’s been some talk about you know would the USL and consider merging with the CHL we know the CHL there’s uh there is some speculation especially on the Ontario part of the CHL the OHL that they may be looking for you know aggressive expansion uh only thing is is that they’ probably want to expand in the United States uh because they do have a few American teams across the CHL and the only thing is is USA Hockey would have to approve any of those moves and I don’t know if they’re going to want to do that right so it’s kind of difficult to say how this is going to go but there’s definitely going to be my guess here that there’s some talks going on in the background that we haven’t quite you know heard about or got leaked yet and we’ll probably find out in the coming days but uh we’ll see how the junior ranks of hockey North America are changing and what the outcome of this emergency meeting is in the USHL sometime in the next little bit now as I mentioned in the rubber Mill today we got some very interesting stuff to take a look at first up I wanted to talk about the New York Rangers been a Hot Topic here the past 2 three weeks we’ve seen them trade their Captain we’ve seen them go on a major skid here I think they’ve got what is it three I think it’s three wins in their last 10 or something it’s they’re not good and they’ve lost a bunch here in a row lost again tonight against the St Louis Blues they just seem like they’re a bit of a mess even eor shurin after signing that major Big Ticket contract extension hasn’t been great either it’s had a few stinker games in there uh the team just seems to be in complete disarray um and then today they surprise people of course I understand uh you know when you’re looking at either back-to-back situations or when you have a lot of games on the shorts pan you might make some lineup changes to keep uh as much fresh legs in the lineup as you can but kappo cako was a healthy scratch and I know a lot of people were shocked going well of all the messages you could send of all the players you could sit trying to send the message here it’s coo like it just didn’t seem fair or Justified with the decision from head coach Peter let so that led to a lot of confusion saying well is this really the case is this just is this strictly a coaching decision or is there more to it we know that we’ve heard enough times now from Elliot Freeman saying the Rangers are wide open for business uh they will consider trading just about anybody you take away a couple of the guys that just signed longterm this you know Season likes just stking like lafer everybody else is on the table now some of them have no trade Clauses so you may not be able to move them if they don’t want to agree to it but at the end of the day Chris jury the GM is willing to entertain conversations about just about any player there so really you know to to have a conversation or trade that might involve kako would not be shocking has he worked out to be the player you hoped he’d be being a number two overall pick behind Jack Hugh you know a number of years ago no he hasn’t but you know he has been having you know a decent year uh and based on his own personal standards and where he’s at as a player you know I think it’s fair to say that he’s slowly coming around like you look at laugher um you know these guys were not exactly given top six minutes Topline minutes they had to play a different role uh it was you know not easy for them and you know eventually laugh reer kind of found a way to break through and create a spot higher in a lineup but you know at the end of the day uh you know did kako deserve to be healthy scratch you could make an argument that he didn’t that there’s other passengers on that team that probably deserve to sit out before would but you know an interesting choice it just created a lot of chatter wondering if a trade’s coming cuz his name has been out there uh as an interesting you know Target there’s a number of these players with the Rangers that are going to need new contracts you know kak’s not signed long term so what does his future hold um just got people talking we don’t know for sure but considering we know from a number of reports that they’re wide open for business it just seems like a questionable move and it’s making people wonder if a trade is being discuss and they want to protect their asset and if we’ll see something come together here in the coming days time will tell now before we get into the Canucks just want to touch on another topic quickly first because the Canuck segment will be a little bit longer here but uh there’s been a lot of chatter about the future of Nicolai eers in Winnipeg he’s been a player we’ve talked about dating back to last year especially at the end of the year and into the off season because there was a lot of comments um at the end of season especially from eers that kind of left a lot of people with the ression that it was a far from a guarantee that Nick eers was going to resign with the Winnipeg Jets and extend his tenure in Manitoba now of course we know that Nick eers and the winter Peg jets are having a fantastic season right now so you know is eers you know his numbers are are good I don’t he’s he’s not exactly like blowing things out of the water here but like the team got off to a you know ridiculously hot start they’ve since kind of come back down to life cooled off but they’re still one of the better teams across the NHL it seems like you know being a playoff team is you know I wouldn’t say it’s a done deal but it’s you know really they’d have to have a major fall off for that not to happen things are looking good so the pending unrestricted free agent forward you know he’s probably not getting moved there’s still a lot of uncertainty around his future though because we haven’t really heard of any speculation about a contract extension being worked out we know based on his comments at the end of last season he was non-committal to extending definitely said a lot of the same things things though that we heard out of the same voice of like Mark shley you know Connor halach saying that you know before they extend they want to be comfortable the team’s Direction they had to talk to the management talk to you know the organization to get a a feel for the direction where we’re going how’s this team going to look they want to make sure that you know they have an opportunity to win which is understandable it’s their right as potential potential unrestricted free agents to kind of have an in to what the teams you know feels that’s going to do right um now we haven’t we didn’t get that surprise signing from eers like we did with shling hellbach and at the end of the day you know I don’t know that we’re going to throughout the season he might be an interesting name to watch recent comments kind of got people talking about could he end up in Montreal with his old buddy Patrick l now Patrick ly and Nick eers were great friends when they were both quite young playing with the winipeg jetss I know eers was probably sad to see he go when he get traded for your peer Luke du uh they remain pretty good friends to this day and there was just recent comments made from each of them like elers was asked about what he thought of his old buddy Lon uh the fact that he’s you know now playing Montreal Montreal after going through that big injury at the start of the season so he had a delayed start but then he got off to a hot start you know scoring consecutive games and he just said that he was he was proud of him glad to see he’s overcome a lot and found a place that he’s you know he seems happy and he seems productive and seems like a good fit and he he’s just really happy for where he’s at so you know it wasn’t like he was gushing over him or anything they’re friends their buddies and he’s you know happy to see him be successful and it’s just in a good place um you know physically mentally and happy and and contributing to his team and then of course L of course was asked about the comments and just said that he had brought him a signed L Jersey for like a Habs Jersey and uh you know he wasn’t joking but apparently elers asked him for one you know whatever and just the two having history you got people talking about well could Nick eers rejoin his good buddy Patrick Lon Montreal well the answer is during this NHL season I don’t think there’s any chance of that Winnipeg is not going to trade elers unless they have a major deal that they feel they can upgrade the team going into the playoffs to have a shot at a Stanley Cup otherwise they will keep him and take the chance that he’s their own rental there’s no doubt they’re not going to weaken their team ahead of the playoffs so this is more of a rumor for the future about the off season coming up which is still a long ways off but if Nick eers does make it a free agency we know the Montreal Canadians of course are having a disappointing season we know that the uh within the veterans of the group are there’s probably going to see some decent amount of turnover we know that some veteran defenseman like saard and mat could get moved we know some veteran forwards like a jake Evans might get moved you got to wonder about Josh Anderson you know so could they they’re going to probably be looking to bring in a few other a couple of veterans at least to replace these guys that they can see as maybe being potential upgrades maybe he could be one of those guys so we’ll see I mean obviously I think eers would love to play with Lon again but I think he’s going to be looking at another overall fit for himself and chance to win and all that as well and we’re going to have to wait and see but I’m not completely sold on either’s Landing in Montreal all but you know what I wouldn’t completely rule it out either but if it does happen it’s not going to be till the off season so we’ll put that one on the back burner for the time being now in Vancouver we talked yesterday about the fact that a lot of people think that JT Miller and elas Patterson may not be able to coexist and it could lead to one of them to parting the organization Maybe by this the end of the season and it’s difficult to say how much truth there is to that I know some people have had argument saying they’ve been teammates for you know how many years now and you know they’ve coexisted so far why can’t that continue yes there’s different personalities but of course the team you know had a good year last year phenomenal rebound Rick tett did great things and a lot of people are saying now essentially that you take a look at you know a lot of coaches that win the Jack Adams they quite often don’t have a job in a couple years and the reason for that I think is that you know obviously the in results business right we know that you know coaches come in they bring in a new way of playing a new playing style new system new whatever they get the big new coach bump boom things take off not everything can continue on and also over time teams adjust to your new style of play how you’re playing make adjustments and then kind of counteract your um you know what you’re doing right so they can they learn how to defend you better and and what have you so at the end of the day here Rick tet and Jim for both uh made comments rck talk at postgame interview which he does every game and Jim Rutherford was on the after hour segment of Hockey Night in Canada which they do on Saturday night double header after the second game they’ll have a guest from one of those teams on that’s why they call it after hours because it’s really late and well between the co the toet comments and the Rutherford comments really makes it sounds like there really is um you know some division in the locker room uh it makes it sound like the the kaks at this point don’t really believe they’re contenders and it also makes you wonder that besides the the whole Pon Miller debacle and well we don’t know how much truth there is to that but you know regardless of what there is to that it sounds like there’s a decent possibility that Brock besser in the conx may not be able to work things out and he might be one that goes as well now tet made comments after their loss to the Oilers saying essentially that or to the Bruins Sor not to the Oilers um after they get basically kind of embarrassed on Saturday night um saying that they had uh three or four players that were struggling to be emotionally engaged and kind he also said that you know that’s kind of on the coaches to make sure that the players are ready for that and feeling that way and they weren’t and he said you know basically saying that and he date back to their game against Emon not long before he made similar comments saying that you know they are not a good enough team that you know they they some players are not going to have their game every night but they need to have you know everybody going to win whereas he said the Oilers can have half 1 team be asleep and their top guys are good enough to drag them through and still figure out a way to maybe get a win I don’t agree with talking on that one I me you have some Elite Talent you have two players on your team as in these guys that apparently don’t like each other that are both former 100o players in Elite centerman that should be able to drag their team into the fight and find a way to win in those scenarios just like you see Conor or Leon do maybe it’s a leadership issue maybe it’s a coaching issue I don’t know Jim Rutherford on after hours made mention that he feels that they need to make multiple trades he said they feels like they need at least a a couple new players to come in before they’ll really have a shot at contending when it comes to Brock besser’s contract he did acknowledge that they they really weren’t close to a new deal and essentially saying that uh with besser that the team and the player have a very different opinion on where things should be so it sounds like they are nowhere near close on a contract extension which isn’t good uh obviously if B were to depart that would be a big blow those that’s going to be tough to replace again Vancouver’s in the mix for playoffs and I believe they will be are they going to downgrade their team and trade a pening UFA like Brock besser I would think probably not but you know this is a team that thinks it’s in a contention window they’re not going to want to downgrade their team at all period right they think they’re going to want to go full steam ahead so with you know Rutherford saying that they’re still a few pieces away um you know making mention that besser and the team basically are really far apart that the the you know there’s lots of different uh philosophies on that and then on top of that with the Tet comments it just sounds like there’s a lot of division in the locker room we’ve heard some reports from Vancouver media saying that they’re kind of even starting to you know almost be like leveled off in clicks or what have you so like I don’t know it it just it’s really concerning to see the Vancouver kaks team maybe imploding he saw thater Demco not have a great game the other night that wasn’t good um and it does look like there’s too many passengers at a time but I do wonder you know to some degree that’s on the coaching staff they also made mention on Rutherford did on the uh on the after hour segment about how the power play you know sometimes when it’s not clicking that they become individuals out there and again you know they’re not playing for each other they not really working as a team they become you know a oneman show trying to get it done which often results into not being successful so it’s just a really tough spot in Vancouver right now uh obviously you’ve got you know some losses there that you’re not thrilled about but you know you also have a coach that seems to be struggling to have his team emotionally invested you have the GM saying they’re still a few players away from being able to contend but yet last year they won a round they lost a round two and a lot of people were convinced that it was really close in round two they weren’t that far off from going to a Conference Final so if you were if you felt that way about your team now why do you not feel about that way today it’s not really that drastically different so it’s just really bizarre on where things are going but as much as we talked about Miller and Pon yesterday and I want to expand on that today here the bigger thing that to me I found surprising is sounding more and more likely that there’s a real possibility that the canox besser may not be able to come to an agreement and he could be one that goes out the door for a new team uh sometime next spring or summer so let me know your thoughts on the the Canucks the Rangers and the eers rumors where do these players end up what moves do we see let me know your thoughts in the comments down below
